Harriet P. Hudnell
Turner Station native Harriet P. Hudnell, 93, died of respiratory failure at Manor Care Nursing Home on Sept. 22 [2003].
Mrs. Hudnell moved to Edgemere in 1941 and worked as a custodian at Edgemere Elementary School for over 20 years, retiring at age 65.
She was active in the voting polls for more than 25 years, was a member of the Well-McComas VFW Post 2678 Toy Soldiers and volunteered at the Edgemere Teen Center.
Mrs. Hudnell was a member of North Point Baptist Church, where she also taught Sunday school.
Among her hobbies were crocheting, shopping and "helping anybody that needed help," according to daughter Melva K. Ewing of Dundalk.
In addition to her daughter, Mrs. Hudnell is survived by sons Willis E. of Florida and Harvey B. of Edgemere. She also leaves behind four grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
Mrs. Hudnell was predeceased by a daughter, Etta A., in 1960 and her husband of more than 60 years, Alton B. Hudnell, in 1990.
Services were held Sept. 27 at Duda-Ruck Funeral Home and interment followed at Oak Lawn Cemetery.
Stella T. Plucinski
Longtime Logan Village resident Stella T. Plucinski died Oct. 7 [2003] at age 86.
Born and raised in Canton, the former Stella Kowalewicz married Louis Plucinski in 1934. They moved to Logan Village in 1950.
She retired after a 33-year career with Continental Can Co.
Predeceased in 1966 by her husband, she is survived by daughters Geraldine Barth and Jacqueline Brooks, sisters Ida Dominic, Dorothy Parker and Marie Sibiski, five grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
A Funeral Mass was celebrated Sept. 11 at Holy Rosary Church. Interment followed at Sacred Heart of Jesus Cemetery.
Jerome Risso Sr.
Jerome Risso Sr., 58, died of cancer Oct. 6 [2003] at his home in Edgemere.
Born and raised in East Baltimore, Mr. Risso graduated from Patterson High School in 1964. After graduation, he enlisted in the U.S. Navy and served four years, including a tour in Vietnam in 1966 and 1967. He later retired from the U.S. Air Force Reserves.
Mr. Risso worked as a heavy equipment operator out of Operating Engineers Union Local 37, retiring a second time in the late 1990s.
A life member of Wells-McComas VFW Post 2678, he was a gardener and an avid Orioles fan.
He is survived by his wife of almost 35 years, Pamela (nee Ruzicka), children Rebecca Long of Bowleys Quarters, Amy Hirahara of Port Hueneme, Calif., Wendy Sills of Dundalk and Jerome Risso Jr. of Edgemere, mother Anna Risso of Dundalk, sister Bernice Remond of North Carolina, brother Donald Risso of Ocean City, Md., and four grandchildren.
The Rev. Joseph Lizor of St. Luke's Catholic Church conducted services Oct. 9 at Duda-Ruck Funeral Home. Interment with full military honors followed at Garrison Forest Veterans Cemetery.
Charles R. Sass Jr.
Lifelong St. Helena resident Tracey Ann Shifflett, 29, and her daughter, Kaleigh Grace Shifflett, who was due to be born Oct. 17 [2003], died unexpectedly at home Oct. 7.
A 1991 graduate of Dundalk High School, the former Tracey Ann Robinson was a member of the National Honor Society and served as manager of the school's varsity football team.
In 1992, soon after graduating from a two-year X-ray technology program at Johns Hopkins Hospital, she started working at Johns Hopkins Bayview Medical Center.
Mrs. Shifflett was a longtime member of First Baptist Church of Dundalk, where she taught Sunday school to 3- and 4-year-olds.
She participated in the American Cancer Society's Relay for Life events at The Community College of Baltimore County's Dundalk Campus in memory of her paternal grandmother, Lois Robinson, and dear family friend Benny Kline.
She loved watching her 5-year-old son, Shane Pat-rick Shifflett, play football and lacrosse. Taking family camping trips, working on her home, painting woodcrafts for her father and spending time with her mother were other favorite pastimes.
In addition to Elbert Warren Shifflett Jr., her husband of almost 10 years, and her son, she is survived by parents Roderick and Donna Robinson, her husband's parents, Lettie "Agnes" and Elbert Warren Shifflett Sr., maternal grandmother Blanche Shifflett, paternal grandfather Edgar Robinson and many other family members. She also leaves behind dear friend Dina Niles.
The Rev. Christopher Gudmundsson of First Baptist Church of Dundalk conducted services Oct. 11 at Connelly Funeral Home. Interment followed at Oak Lawn Cemetery.

Jeffrey R. Yount
Lifetime Cornwall Court resident Jeffrey R. Yount, 44, died Sept. 21 [2003] at Winchester Memorial Hospital after suffering a stroke while visiting relatives in Shanks, W.Va.
Mr. Yount attended Dundalk High School and served in the U.S. Army for a short time. He worked as a welder for Bengies Welding in Essex and occasionally attended religious services at Key Worship Center.
A self-taught artist known for his canvas paintings and tattoos, Mr. Yount also enjoyed heavy metal music and Harley-Davidson motorcycles in addition to fishing and crabbing.
Mr. Yount is survived by his mother, Catherine Leskovar, also of Cornwall Court; his sister, Deborah R. Garland of Edgemere; and his brothers, Brian Yount of Harold Road and Robert Yount of Shanks.
He was predeceased by his wife of six years, Theresa "Tessie" Yount (nee Wolfordman), his father, Robert R. Yount, his grandmother, Kitty Owens, and his stepfather, John Leskovar.
The family held a private ceremony in Shanks on Saturday, Oct. 11.
Stephen Brown
A Funeral Mass will be celebrated Friday, Oct. 24 [2003], for longtime Harbor View resident Stephen Brown, 78, who died Oct. 21 after a long and courageous battle with cancer.
The Mass begins 10 a.m. at Sacred Heart of Mary Church, 6736 Youngstown Ave. Interment will be private.
Mr. Brown was born in Baltimore, attended Sacred Heart of Mary School and worked to help his father support the family during the Depression years.
In 1943, at age 18, he became a gunner on an armored car in the U.S. Army's 15th Cavalry, actively participating in the emancipation of Europe from the invasion of Normandy to VE Day. He received a Medal of the Jubilee of Liberty from the French government and attended reunions of the 15th Cavalry for many years. Always proud of his military service, he was a member of Dundalk VFW Post 6694.
After the war, he attended the Baltimore Construction Institute and worked as a mason and builder. With his brothers, he founded the Brown Brothers Construction Co.
A lifetime member of Sacred Heart of Mary parish, he belonged to the Holy Name Society for more than 65 years and was an usher for 60. He also was a 4th degree member of the Knights of Columbus and served as director of Sacred Heart of Mary Cemetery after his retirement.
In addition to his wife of 53 years, Irene (nee Mocek), he is survived by daughters Stephany Crane of Annapolis and Jane Brown of Timonium, sisters Mary Janocha, Martha Vorke, Margaret Lorent and Theresa Graff and four grandchildren.
Visitation is scheduled for Thursday, Oct. 23, from 4 to 8 p.m. at Dabrowski- Chojnacki Funeral Home, 1005 Dundalk Ave.
Jacqueline A. Herrmann
Retired school secretary Jacqueline Ann Herrmann of Fort Myers, Fla., died of cancer Oct. 1 [2003] at Upper Chesapeake Medical Center. The former Harold Road resident was diagnosed with cancer while spending the summer with her children and grandchildren in Bel Air.
Mrs. Herrmann, 66, who had been school secretary for about a year at Dundalk Elementary, retired in 1998 after more than 22 years as secretary at Middle River Middle School. She worked for a few years in the main office of Bethlehem Steel after graduating from school in Vandergrift, Pa.
The former Jacqueline Milito married Richard Herrmann on Feb. 10, 1957. She and her husband lived on Harold Road from 1959 to 2002, when they moved to Florida.
A former parishioner of Our Lady of Hope Church, she was an honorary member and past president of the ladies auxiliary of Balco Pleasure Club in Fort Howard. In Fort Myers, she was a member of St. Columbkille Church and Queen Mom of the Red Hat Society.
Her many interests included volunteering at a health center and collecting shells in Fort Myers, traveling and taking vacation cruises. Spending summers and holidays with her children and grandchildren was the highlight of her life, and she especially loved when they visited her in Florida.
In addition to her husband of 46 years, she is survived by four children, twins Diane Seeger of Parkville and Robert Herr-man of Hampstead and two other sons, Bruce Herrmann of Bel Air and Matthew Herrmann of Dundalk. She also leaves behind brother Robert Milito, nine grandchildren and many other family members.
A Christian wake service was held Oct. 3 at Duda-Ruck Funeral Home. The Rev. Paul Witt-hauer celebrated a Mass of Christian Burial the next day at Our Lady of Hope Church. Interment followed at Parkwood Cemetery.

Stanley Griffin
Lifelong Dundalk resident Stanley "Mickey" Griffin, 53, died of a heart attack Oct. 15 [2003] at Johns Hopkins Bayview Medical Center.
Mr. Griffin worked as a conductor for Norfolk Southern Corp. for 30 years.
A Cleveland Avenue resident since 1977, he grew up on McShane Way and graduated from Dundalk High School in 1968.
He was a Harley-Davidson rider and a member the Fat-Boys, an organization of motorcycle enthusiasts. He also planted a vegetable garden every spring.
In addition to his wife of 16 years, Michele (nee Clarke), he is survived by brother Charles Griffin of Connecticut, twin brother James "Ricky" Griffin of Hawaii and sister Bernice Gregory of Delaware. He also will be missed by his faithful dalmatian, Chief.
The Rev. Ronald Wright of Merritt Park Baptist Church, a family friend, conducted services Oct. 20 at Connelly Funeral Home. Interment followed at Sacred Heart of Jesus Cemetery.
Samuel M. Rosen
Services were scheduled for Wednesday, Oct. 29 [2003], for longtime Dundalk resident Samuel M. Rosen, 77, who died of congestive heart failure Oct. 26 at Baltimore VA Medical Center.
The service was set for 5:30 p.m. at Bradley-Ashton-Matthews Funeral Home, 2134 Willow Spring Road. Visitation was scheduled for 2 to 6 p.m.
Born and raised in Brooklyn, N.Y., Mr. Rosen lived in Connecticut before moving to Dundalk in 1970.
A U.S. Army veteran of World War II, he held a bachelor's degree from New York University.
He worked for Monumental Life Insurance Co. and had earlier worked for Topps department store.
He was a longtime member and elder in the Dundalk Congregation of Jehovah's Witnesses. Baptised as a member of Jehovah's Witnesses 42 years ago in New York, he was a full-time pioneer for the last 15 years.
In addition to his wife of almost 40 years, Wanda (nee Betker), he is survived by brothers Russell Rosen of New Jersey and Bernard Rosen of Washington state, sister Rita Rosen of Florida and many other family members.
Keith H. Bowen
A Memorial Mass will be celebrated Saturday, Dec. 6 [2003], for Bear Ridge Road resident Keith Henry Bowen, 47, who died at home Nov. 24.
The Mass begins 10 a.m. at Our Lady of Fatima Church, 6400 E. Pratt St. Inurnment will follow at Oak Lawn Cemetery.
Mr. Bowen, a Dundalk resident for many years, grew up in Eastwood.
He enjoyed spending time with his family, visiting out-of-town relatives, listening to music and discussing politics.
Surviving are sisters Adele O'Callaghan of Virginia Beach and Lori Diacopoulos of Cockeysville and nieces and nephews Briana and Olivia Diacopoulos and Molly and Pearse O'Callaghan. He was predeceased by his parents, Henry and Phyllis Bowen.

Ruth S. Kelly
A memorial service will be held Sunday, Dec. 7 [2003], for Stanbrook homemaker Ruth Scott Kelly who died Nov. 30 at age 75.
The service begins 1 p.m. at Dundalk Presbyterian Church, 1973 Merritt Blvd. A service also will be held at 10 a.m. Monday, Dec. 8, at Holly Hill Memorial Gardens.
Born in Lorain, Ohio, Mrs. Kelly was educated at Linden Hall, a private girls boarding school in Lititz, Pa. She married Pennsylvania resident James H. Kelly Jr. in 1949. They lived for a time in Middle River before moving to Stanbrook in 1955.
She was a longtime member of Dundalk Presbyterian Church and belonged to its Ladies Circle.
Mrs. Kelly enjoyed the outdoors, spending time in the country and celebrating her January birthday with a visit to the beach. An avid traveler, she had vacationed in Germany, cruised to Bermuda and visited with family members in Pennsylvania, Ohio and Colorado.
Predeceased in 1976 by her husband, she is survived by sons Donald N. and Kevin J. Kelly of Dundalk, daughter Colleen A. Strausser of Colorado Springs, Colo., brother W. Leighton Scott of Cleveland Heights, Ohio, and four grandchildren.
She also leaves behind dear friends Mary and Jack Soth of Winchester, Va.

Gregory Kossiakoff
Gregory "George" Kossiakoff, a longtime Edgemere resident and a retired firefighter, died of a heart attack Nov. 18 [2003] at age 72.
Mr. Kossiakoff was assigned exclusively to Fire Boat No. 1 during his long career with the Baltimore City Fire Department.
A Patterson Park High School graduate and a former Highlandtown resident, he was a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean War and a member of Wells-McComas VFW Post 2678.
Boating, fishing, crabbing and playing pool at Ateaze Senior Center were some of his favorite activities.
He is survived by his wife, Elizabeth (nee Dillon), and daughters Peggylee Williams and Helen Chalmers, all of Edgemere, and five grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
Services were held Nov. 21 at Duda-Ruck Funeral Home. Interment followed at Oak Lawn Cemetery.
