JOSEPHINE V. BOWERS

CUMBERLAND - Josephine V. Bowers, 68, of the Cumberland Manor Apartments, died Saturday, Aug. 2, 1997, at Western Maryland Center, Hagerstown.

Born Oct. 27, 1928, in Cumberland, she was the daughter of the late Joseph P. and Ellen Mae (Connor) Puffinberger.

She also was preceded in death by one brother, James Briggs.

Mrs. Bowers was a homemaker.

Surviving are five sons, Kenneth Ray Bowers, Ricky Lee Bowers, Steven Ray Bowers, Virgil James Bowers and Wesley H. Bowers, all of Cumberland; and two daughters, Mary Jane Rodriguez, Paw Paw, W.Va., and Kim Lee Anderson, Cumberland; two brothers, Thomas Puffinberger, Ohio, and Lester "Sonny" Puffinberger, Cumberland; five sisters, Kathleen Brown, Laura D'Angelo, Ester Rumor, Lucinda Rumor and Levina Wolfe, all of Cumberland; several grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

Friends will be received at the Scarpelli Funeral Home, 108 Virginia Ave., Cumberland, on Monday from 7 to 9 p.m.

Services will be conducted at the funeral home on Tuesday at 1 p.m. with the Rev. Gary W. Barkley officiating.

Interment will be in Restlawn Memorial Gardens, LaVale.

LYDIA L. BECK

FROSTBURG - Lydia Lennox Beck, 92, of Frostburg Heights Apartments, died Sunday, May 11, 1997, at Sacred Heart Hospital.

Born November 29, 1904, in Zihlman, she was the daughter of the late Archibald and Margaret (Rankin) Lennox.

She also was preceded in death by her husband, David Beck, on January 11, 1970; and one brother, Wesley Lennox.

Mrs. Beck was a member of Allegany United Methodist Church and the Ladies Aid.

Surviving are two brothers, Harry Lennox, Zihlman, and Andrew Lennox and wife Janet, Ridgeley, W.Va; and one sister-in-law Belle Lennox, Frostburg.

Friends will be received at the Sowers Funeral Home, Frostburg, on Tuesday from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Services will be conducted at the funeral home at 1 p.m. with the Rev. George M. Harpold officiating.

Interment will be in Frostburg Memorial Park.

Memorial contributions may be made to Allegany United Methodist Church.

VERONICA E. BECKNER

WESTERNPORT - Veronica E. Beckner, 68, of 102 Kalbaugh St., Westernport, died Wednesday, Dec. 10, 1997, at her residence.

Born Aug. 2, 1929, in Frostburg, she was the daughter of Kathleen (Rafferty) Winner, Lonaconing, and the late Vernard F. Winner.

She also was preceded in death by a sister, Mary Winner.

Mrs. Beckner retired in 1991 from the Allegany County Board of Education as a dedicated teacher, having taught most of her career at Barton Elementary School. She was a member of St. Peter's Catholic Church, Westernport, and a member of Court Sancta Maria No. 485 Catholic Daughters of America. Mrs. Beckner was a member of Victory Unit No. 155 Ladies Auxiliary, a member of the Allegany County Retired Teachers Association, and the National Education Association. She also was a life member of the Maryland State PTA, and a life member of the Barton Elementary School PTA.

In addition to her mother, she is survived by her beloved husband, Raymond R. Beckner; and she was a devoted mother to Michael Beckner, Westernport, Joseph Beckner and wife Margie, Lonaconing, Linda Davis-Kyle and husband Gene, Barton, Janet Morris and husband Jim, Westernport, and Thomas Beckner and wife Rhonda, Westernport.

Also surviving are nine brothers and sisters, Elizabeth Hallinan, Cumberland; Bernard Winner, Cumberland; Sister Kathleen Bernard, Baltimore; Kathleen Larkin, Frostburg; Rose Marie Montgomery, Barton; John Winner, Lonaconing; William G. Winner, Cumberland; Robert "Hank" Winner, Georgia; and James Winner, Lonaconing. She was a loving grandmother to Jamie Likens, Al Beckner, Heather Ann Beckner, Megan Elizabeth Beckner, Aaron Mathew Beckner, Jennifer Zais, Cassie Morris, Eric Morris, Josh Beckner, and Luke Beckner; and a great-grandmother to Nathan and Brandon Zais.

Friends will be received at the Boal Funeral Home, Westernport, on Thursday and Friday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.

Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Peter's Catholic Church on Saturday at 10 a.m. with Father James Hannon and Father Paul Byrnes as celebrants.

Interment will be in St. Peter's Cemetery.

The Catholic Daughters will hold a Christian wake service at the funeral home on Friday at 7:30 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Peter's Church Organ Fund, or to the Barton Elementary School, or to a charity of your choice.

Pallbearers will be Al Beckner, Jamie Likens, Jared Zais, Tom Morris, Jim Morris, and Gene Kyle. Honorary pallbearers will be Dr. Richard Sloop, Willard Cleavenger, Steve Wilson, Dr. Fred Sloan, and Keith Kiddy.

ARDELLA B. BEELER

CUMBERLAND - Ardella M. Bosley Beeler, 71, of Cumberland, died Sunday, April 20, 1997, at the Allegany County Nursing Home.

Born May 10, 1925, in Oakland, she was the daughter of the late Jacob Simmons and Rosie (Keller) Simmons.

She also was preceded in death by two husbands, S.O. "Jack" Bosley, and William A. Beeler.

Surviving are one son, Samuel L. Bosley, Cape Canaveral, Fla.; two daughters, Betty (Bosley) Yost, Cumberland, and Laura M. (Bosley) Lantz, Akron, Ohio; four sisters, Anna Mackley, Westernport, Virginia Grimm, Tunnelton, W.Va., Rose Sharer, Oakland, and Lona McDowell, Cumberland; 10 grandchildren; and 9 great-grandchildren.

There will be no visitation. The body will be cremated.

A private memorial service will be conducted at the Leasure-Stein Funeral Home on Wednesday with Ronald G. Yost officiating.

CHARLES T. BEEMAN

RIDGELEY, W.Va. - Charles (Tom) Beeman, 54, of Route 2, Box 2, Ridgeley, died Thursday, July 17, 1997, of injuries he sustained from an accident on December 4, 1992. Mr. Beeman had been in a coma since that day.

Born December 16, 1942, in Barton, Md., his birth parents were the late Dewey T. Beeman, of Michigan, and Marie (Zigler) Beeman, of LaVale.

He was raised by his grandparents, the late George T. Beeman and Emma (Wiland) Beeman of Barton.

Mr. Beeman was employed by Westvaco Corporation for 30 years, the last 22 years as a security guard.

He was a member of St. Paul's United Methodist Church, Patterson Creek.

Mr. Beeman was a car enthusiast from Nascar to street rodding. He was a member of Western Maryland Street Rod Association and he ran registration for four years at the Labor Day weekend rod run. He was a W.M.S.R.A. Street Rodder of the Year in 1992, and had been a member of the National Street Rod Association.

He was a member of Raymond E. Dawson F.O.P. Lodge No. 111, Keyser. He served with the Army National Guard, Company B, 121st Engineering Battalion of Maryland, from 1961 to 1969.

He was a loving husband, father and friend to many. He has been missed for the last four years and will continue to be missed by his family and friends.

He is survived by his loving wife of 26 years, Rita (Leese) Beeman, who, with the help of their two children, has cared for him since coming home from the hospital in July of 1993; a daughter, Amanda (Beeman) Festerman and husband Robbie, Charlestown; one son, Patrick Thomas Beeman, at home; one grandson, David Thomas Festerman; one brother, A. Dale Beeman and wife Debbie, Dogwood Flats, Barton; his mother-in-law and father-in-law, Melvin and Martha Leese, Route 2, Ridgeley; sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Gerald and Regina Baldwin, Winchester, Va.; two nephews; one niece; and a great nephew.

The special nurses who helped in his care were Sharron, Kelly, Joyce, Regina, Debbie, Basil, Lori, Lana, Sherry, and a special tribute in loving memory of Roxce Bevans.

Friends will be received at the Hafer Chapel of the Hills Mortuary, 1302 National Highway, LaVale, on Saturday from 1 to 4:30 and 7 to 9 p.m.

Services will be held at the funeral home on Sunday at 2 p.m. with the Rev. Delbert Poling officiating.

Interment will be in Fort Ashby Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be A. Dale Beeman, Gerald Baldwin, William Chambers Sr., T. "Rick" Black, Don Allen Bland, and Ron Savage.

The family requests expressions of sympathy be made to St. Paul's United Methodist Church, Route 3, Patterson Creek, Ridgeley, WV 26753

FLOSSIE O. BEEMAN

LONACONING - Flossie Olive (Broadwater) Beeman, 88, of Knapps Meadow, Lonaconing, went home to Heaven on Saturday, Feb. 22, 1997.

She personified a virtuous woman and "her price is far above rubies."

"Her children rise up and call her blessed; her husband also, and he praises her."

Born Jan. 28, 1909, in Garrett County, she was the daughter of the late Harmon Broadwater and the late Harriett C. (Bittinger) Broadwater.

She also was preceded in death by a son, Clyde Beeman; three sisters, Nellie Llewellyn, Minnie Broadwater and Dorothy Sutherland; and one granddaughter, Donna James.

Mrs. Beeman was a member of the Dunkard Brethren Church, Broadwater Chapel, Savage River Road, for 74 years and served in various capacities.

Flossie and her husband also are the parents of the Country Gospel Singers, who ministered in the area for 24 years.

Surviving are her husband of 70 years, Oscar L. Beeman; three sons, the Rev. Homer Beeman and wife Freda, Westernport, Robert Beeman and wife Saundra, Frostburg, and Roger Beeman and wife Sandy, Springfield, Va.; three daughters, Edna Clark and husband Glen, Lonaconing, Louise Skidmore and husband Stanley, Frostburg, Lavona Sines and husband Ronnie, Frostburg; five brothers, Howard Broadwater, LaVale, Grover Broadwater, LaVale, Edward Broadwater, Corriganville, Herbert Broadwater, Chester, and Robert Broadwater, Lonaconing; seven sisters, Della Beeman, LaVale, Edith Long, Moran Manor Nursing Home, Theresa Broadwater, Westernport, Myrtle Broadwater, York, Pa., Rosella Rounds, Grantsville, Lillie Broadwater, Westernport, and Thelma Bittinger, Grantsville; 21 grandchildren; 35 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.

Friends will be received at the Boal Funeral Home, Lonaconing, on Sunday and Monday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.

Services will be conducted at the Bethel Pentecostal Holiness Church, Lonaconing, on Tuesday at 1 p.m. with Elder Virgil Leatherman and Elder Ray Stuber officiating.

Interment will be in the Rest Lawn Memorial Gardens, LaVale.

Pallbearers will be Robbie Clark, David Beeman, Danny Beeman, Bob Beeman Jr., Nathan Beeman and Trent Beeman.

JEFFREY L. BEEMAN

BARTON - Jeffrey L. Beeman, 36, of Bartlett Run Road, SW, Barton, died Friday, March 28, 1997, at his residence.

Born Aug. 4, 1960, in Baltimore, he was a son of Joseph Junior Beeman and Wilma Jean (McGee) Beeman, of Barton.

He also was preceded in death by his paternal grandmother, Edith L. Beeman.

Mr. Beeman was a mechanic.

Surviving are his maternal grandmother, Jessie C. McGee, Lonaconing; one sister, Wilma Jean Thorne, Winter Haven, Fla., and her son Jamie, who lives with his grandmother, Wilma Jean Beeman, of Barton; three brothers, James Beeman and wife Alice, Barton, Joseph A. Beeman and wife Veva, Short Gap, W.Va., and John E. Beeman and wife Kim, Barton; numerous aunts and uncles; and several nieces and nephews.

Friends will be received at the Eichhorn-McKenzie Funeral Home, Lonaconing, on Tuesday from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.

The body was cremated.

Memorial services will be conducted at the funeral home on Tuesday at 1 p.m. with the Rev. George Loar officiating.

Interment will be in the Green Cemetery, Garrett County.

LENA C. BEEMAN

FROSTBURG - Lena Christine (Sgaggero) Beeman, 50, of Powells Lane Apartments, Apartment A8, Frostburg, went to be with the Lord, with her family beside her, on Monday, July 14, 1997, at Sacred Heart Hospital.

Born Feb. 16, 1947, in Piedmont, W.Va., she was the daughter of the late Phyllis (Cannon) Sgaggero.

Mrs. Beeman was employed at the Princess Restaurant, Frostburg, for 8 years before she became sick. She was a member of the God's Ark of Safety, Frostburg.

Surviving are her father Vitto Sgaggero and step mother Suanne G. Sgaggero, Finzel; her husband William Abraham Beeman, Sr., Frostburg; one daughter, Kathy Hanlin and husband Austin, Westernport; three sons, William Beeman Jr. and wife Kelly, Shaft, Steven Beeman, at home, and Joey Beeman and girlfriend Lorraine, Frostburg; seven grandchildren, Austin Jr., William, Christopher, Ryan, Scott, Nicole and James; one step grandson, Justin; three sisters, Linda Jeffry and husband Ron, Frostburg, Melinda Routhier, Frostburg, and Paula Vassalo, Cumberland; one brother, Frank Sgaggero and wife June, Lonaconing; her mother-in-law, Margaret Beeman, Detmold; and several nieces and nephews.

Friends will be received at the God's Ark of Safety, Frostburg, on Tuesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.

Services will be conducted at the church on Wednesday at 1 p.m. with the Pastor J. Richard Greene and the Pastor Everett Spence officiating.

Interment will be in the Frostburg Memorial Park.

Pallbearers will be Pete Booth, Ricky Webb, Frankie Sgaggero, Anthony Vassalo, Dale Sgaggero and George Pappas. Her grandsons will be the honorary pallbearers.

Family requests that expressions of sympathy take the form of memorials to, The Lena C. Beeman Cancer Fund, First Federal Savings Bank, Frostburg.

Arrangements by Eichhorn-McKenzie Funeral Home, Lonaconing, MD 21539.

Memorial cards will be available at the church.
