ERNEST W. ACKERMAN
MOUNTAIN LAKE PARK - Ernest W. Ackerman, 66, of N Street, Mountain Lake Park, died Friday, May 9, 1997, at his home.
Born Dec. 7, 1930, in Wheeling, W.Va., he was the son of Francis E. Ackerman, Mountain Lake Park, and the late Pearl Anna (Gray) Ackerman. He also was preceded in death by one son, Francis W. Ackerman; and one foster son, Christopher W. Walters.
Mr. Ackerman was a member of the Loch Lynn Church of God. He was a retired truck driver, welder and mechanic. He was a U.S. Air Force veteran of the Korean War. He was a member of the American Legion Proctor Kildow Post No. 71, Oakland.
Mr. Ackerman was the president of the Exception Support Group, Oakland, and was a former member of the Literacy Council. He attended Garrett Community College. He often portrayed Santa Claus at many area schools.
Mr. Ackerman and his wife were foster parents for 154 children during the past 12 years.
Surviving are his wife, Helen L. (Shreve) Ackerman; one daughter, Deborah Y. Friend, Oakland; three sons, Ernest Z. Ackerman, Spring Grove, Pa., Jeffrey W. Ackerman, Oakland, and the Rev. Ivan R. Ackerman, Las Cruces, N.M.; nine grandchildren; seven step-grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and five step-great-grandchildren.
Friends will be received at the Stewart Funeral Home, Oakland, on Saturday from 7 to 9 p.m. and on Sunday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.
Services will be held at the Loch Lynn Church of God on Monday, May 12, 1997, at 2 p.m. with the Rev. Robert Fletcher and the Rev. Ivan R. Ackerman officiating. Friends may call at the church one hour prior to services.
Interment will be in the Pleasant Valley Cemetery.
Military honors will be accorded at the cemetery by members of the various veterans organizations in southern Garrett County.
AUDREY O. ADAMS
KEYSER, W.Va. - Audrey O. Adams, 91, formerly of 1 School St., Keyser, died Wednesday, Sept. 24, 1997, at the Heartland of Keyser Nursing Home, Keyser.
Born Dec. 19, 1905, in Newburg, W.Va., she was a daughter of the late Nathan E. and Victoria M. (Friend) Hollen. She also was preceded in death by her husband, Roger W. "Bill" Adams in July of 1972.
Mrs. Adams was a retired manager of the millinery department at the Diamond Department Store, Charleston.
She was a member of the Keyser Presbyterian Church, Keyser, the Women of the Presbyterian Church, Alkire Chapter No. 10 Order of the Eastern Star, Keyser, the Keyser Ladies Shrine, Olive Temple No. 59 Pythian Sisters, Keyser, the Keyser Women's Club, the Noontimers Homemakers Club, and the Mineral County Senior Citizens.
Surviving are one son, William Hollen Adams, Fort Worth, Texas; one daughter, Margaret S. "Peggy" Long, Melbourne, Fla.; one brother, Kenneth R. Hollen, Keyser; eight grandchildren; and 23 great-grandchildren.
Friends will be received at the Rotruck-Smith Funeral Home, Keyser, on Saturday from 7 to 9 p.m.
Funeral services will be held in the funeral home chapel on Sunday at 2 p.m. with the Rev. Stephen P. Fritz officiating.
Interment will be in Queens Point Cemetery, Keyser.

BETTY J. ADAMS
CUMBERLAND - Betty J. Adams, 72, of Cumberland, died Monday, Dec. 8, 1997, at Memorial Hospital Hospice Unit.
Born February 13, 1925, in Cumberland, she was the daughter of the late Ralph and Anna (McCarty) Knippenberg. She also was preceded in death by her companion of many years, William H. Waltman; and one sister.
Mrs. Adams worked many years at the Celanese Fiber Corporation. She retired in 1992 as a nursing assistant from Memorial Hospital after 26 years of faithful service. She made many lifelong and cherished friends during her career at the hospital. She was a loving mother and grandmother.
Surviving are two sons, Michael L. Adams and wife, Cathy, Brandywine, W.Va., and Patrick J. Adams and wife, Nancy, Cumberland; three daughters, Glenna M. Koontz and husband, James, Brandywine, Sandra Mongold, Fort Ashby, W.Va., Rose Adams, Cumberland; 10 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; four sisters; and several nieces and nephews.
Friends will be received at the Scarpelli Funeral Home, 108 Virginia Avenue, Cumberland, on Tuesday from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m.
Services will be conducted at the funeral home on Wednesday at 1 p.m. with the Rev. Bernard Yost officiating.
Interment will be in Sunset Memorial Park, Cumberland.
Pallbearers will be grandsons.

ELMER H. ADAMS
SPRINGFIELD, W.Va. - Elmer Howard Adams, 79, of Springfield, died Wednesday, March 19, 1997, at his residence.
Born Aug. 26, 1917, in Springfield, he was the son of the late Howard Taylor and Olivia Goldie (Ansel) Adams. He also was preceded in death by his wife, Blanche Parker Adams, on July 3, 1992; two brothers, Don and Harold Adams; and one sister, Evelyn Chaney.
Mr. Adams was a retired carpenter having been employed by the late Joseph C. Cannon, general contractor of Romney. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II, and a member of American Legion Hampshire Post 91 and VFW Wappocoma Post 1101, both of Romney. He was a member of the Springfield United Methodist Church.
Surviving are two stepsons, George S. Seeders, Fort Ashby, and Ronald P. Seeders, Littleton, Colo.; three brothers, Willis "Andy" Adams, Springfield, Kenneth Adams, Springfield, and Floyd R. "Jack" Adams, Englewood, Colo.; three sisters, Wilma Garland, Springfield, Pauline Hott, Springfield, and Faye Garland, Fort Ashby; six step-grandchildren, Janet Curtis, Spencerville, Md., Randy Seeders, Boonesboro, Md., Mark Seeders, Luray, Va., Ronald Seeders Jr., Roger Seeders and Susan Cissell, all of Littleton; and 18 step-great-grandchildren.
Friends will be received at the Shaffer Funeral Home, Romney, on Saturday from 7 to 9 p.m. and Sunday from 7 to 9 p.m.
Services will be held at the Springfield United Methodist Church on Monday, March 24, at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Deborah Shreve officiating. The body will be taken to the church at 10 a.m. to lie in state for one hour prior to the services.
Interment will be in the Fort Ashby Cemetery. Military rites will be accorded by the Veterans Organizations of Hampshire County.
GOLDIE E. ADAMS
CUMBERLAND - Goldie E. Adams, 86, of Eastern Avenue, Cumberland, died Thursday, Dec. 18, 1997, in the Allegany County Nursing Home.
She was born Feb. 19, 1911, in Chaneysville, Pa., the daughter of the late Shannon and Viola Ruby.
She was predeceased by her husband of 56 years, Robert Leo Adams, on Dec. 9, 1982; and several brothers and sisters.
Mrs. Adams was a homemaker and a member of the Chaneysville Volunteer Fire Department Ladies Auxiliary.
Surviving are two sons, Robert L. Adams, Salisbury, and Rickey Adams, Cumberland; a daughter, Norma J. Davis, Cresaptown; a sister, Pearl, Everett, Pa.; a granddaughter and caretaker, Scip Rodeheaver, Cumberland; several grandchildren; great-grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.
Friends will be received at the Hafer Chapel of the Hills Mortuary, 1302 National Hwy., LaVale, on Sunday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. and Monday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.
Funeral services will be conducted on Tuesday at 11 a.m. in the funeral home chapel with the Rev. Richard Leslie officiating.
Interment will follow in Sunset Memorial Park.
S. PHYLLIS ADAMS
PIEDMONT, W.Va. - S. Phyllis Adams, 79, of 126 W. Hampshire St., Piedmont, died Sunday at Memorial Hospital, Cumberland.
Born May 30, 1917, at Piedmont, she was the daughter of the late James W. Adams and Margaret (Thompson) Adams. She also was preceded in death by a brother, Albert Adams, and two sisters, Bernadette Vogtman and Mary Brown. She was the last member of her immediate family.
Ms. Adams was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church, Piedmont, and a member of the Ladies Guild. She retired from Westvaco in June, 1980, with 37 years of service.
Surviving are six nieces, Barbara J. Smith, Keyser, Donna L. Cave, Ellicott City, Md., Mary L. Lucas and husband Phil, Cumberland, Jacqueline Bartles and husband Jack, Irwin, Pa., Patricia Cabellero, Metaire, La., Elizabeth Morgan and husband Larry, Belfair, Wa.; one nephew, William Brown, Westernport, Md.; 15 great-nieces and nephews; and 20 great-great-nieces and nephews.
Friends will be received at the Fredlock Funeral Home, Piedmont, on Wednesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.
Services will be held at the funeral home on Thursday at 11 a.m. with the Rev. S.D. Sawyers officiating.
Interment will be in Philos Cemetery, Westernport, Md.

SARAH M. AHERN
WESTERNPORT - Sarah Mae Ahern, 83, of 327 Hammond St., Westernport, went to be with the Lord on Thursday, June 5, 1997, at Potomac Valley Hospital, Keyser, W.Va.
Born June 23, 1913, in Old Fields, W.Va., she was the daughter of the late Jessie Franklin and Mary Louise (Whetzel) Raines. She also was preceded in death by her husband, Carlton Roscoe Ahern Jr., in 1967, and a sister, Pearl Keller.
Mrs. Ahern was a homemaker. She was a member of the First Assembly of God Church, Westernport, and a member of Victory Post No. 155 American Legion Ladies Auxiliary. She was a very devoted mother and grandmother. She also was a special friend to her children, grandchildren and everyone who knew her.
Surviving are four sons, Richard Ahern and wife Debra, Westernport, Harry Ahern and wife Sandy, Backbone Mountain, Mike Ahern and wife Janet, Fountain, W.Va., Carlton Ahern Jr. and wife Gloria, Salem, Va.; four daughters, Patricia Hartman and husband James, Westernport, Carolyn Sue Durst, Fountain, W.Va, Sharon Daris and husband Jeff, Westernport, Dottie Miller and husband Richard, Westernport; one brother, Ocie Raines Sr., Westernport; and one sister, Ruby Rayner, LaVale; 20 grandchildren; and 17 great-grandchildren.
Friends will be received at the Boal Funeral Home, Westernport, on Saturday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. The Victory Unit Ladies Auxiliary will hold a memorial service at the funeral home on Saturday at 2:15 p.m.
Services will be held at the funeral home on Sunday at 1 p.m.
Interment will be in Philos Cemetery, Westernport.

ELVA PARK ALBIN
BEAN SETTLEMENT, W.Va. - Elva Park Albin, 93, of Bean Settlement, died Tuesday, Dec. 23, 1997, at the E.A. Hawse Continuous Care Center, Baker.
Born Jan. 8, 1904, in Hardy County, she was a daughter of the late Allen and Mary (Combs) Park. She also was preceded in death by her husband, John Albin, in June 1966; one brother; and two sisters.
Mrs. Albin was a member of the Asbury United Methodist Church, was church organist for many years, and was active in the United Methodist Women organization. She was a graduate of Shepherd College and member of the Shepherd Alumni Association. She was a retired teacher and principal from Hardy and Jefferson counties; was active in Extension Homemakers; and enjoyed traveling.
Surviving are three stepdaughters, Emma Jean Hockman, Winchester, Va., Mary Plum, Hampton, Va., and Betty Jane Decker, Martinsburg; one sister, Nova Peters, Rock Oak; six grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and 10 nieces and nephews.
Friends may call at the Fraley Funeral Home, Moorefield, on Friday from 5 to 9 p.m.
Services will be conducted at the Asbury United Methodist Church, Bean Settlement, on Saturday at 2 p.m. with the Rev. Luther Crites officiating.
Burial will follow in the Asbury Cemetery.
