ELIZABETH P. ALDERTON
TOWSON - Elizabeth Patsy (Penrod) Alderton, 87, formerly of Cumberland and Frostburg, died Wednesday, May 15, 1997, at St. Joseph's Hospital, Towson.
Born Oct. 17, 1909, in Cumberland, she was the daughter of the late Zora Penrod and George Penrod. She also was preceded in death by her husband, Wayne Alderton, and her niece, Jean Merritt.
Mrs. Alderton was a 1928 graduate of Allegany High School. She was formerly employed at Curl's Camera Shop, Cumberland. The shop was owned by her brother, Louis Curl.
Surviving are a nephew, Robb Merritt; a niece, Nancy Haigly; and her dear friend, Esther Rose Ayers, who was her neighbor for over 20 years.
Funeral services were held Friday, May 16, 1997, at Ruck Funeral Home, Towson.
Interment was in the family burial plot at Hillcrest Cemetery, Cumberland.
MARSHALL D. ALDERTON
ELK GARDEN, W.Va. - Marshall Dennis "Junior" Alderton, 78, of Elk Garden, died Friday, Oct. 3, 1997, at Sacred Heart Hospital, Cumberland.
Born June 11, 1919, in Westernport, Md., he was the son of the late M. M. and Ethel (Hanlin) Alderton.
Mr. Alderton was a retired carpenter, and a U.S. Air Force veteran of World War II. He was a member of the Piedmont American Legion and the Mount Storm VFW.
Surviving are his wife, Beulah "Bobby" (Duling) Alderton; one son, Dennie Alderton, Pennsville, N.J.; two daughters, Barbara Mason, Keyser, and JoAnn Howdyshell, San Antonio, Texas; six grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
Friends will be received at the David A. Burdock Funeral Home, Kitzmiller, on Sunday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.
Services will be held at the Hartmansville Methodist Church on Monday at 1 p.m. with the Rev. Joseph Gerstel and Mr. Lowell McDonald officiating.
Interment will be in the Kalbaugh Cemetery, Elk Garden.
ROBERT E. ALLEE
LADY LAKE, Fla. - Robert Eugene Allee, 79, of Lady Lake, died Monday, Oct. 6, 1997 at Memorial Hospital, Cumberland.
Born April 14, 1918 in Des Moines, Iowa, he was the son of the late Albert and Anna (Mainberg) Allee.
He was a graduate of Drake University.
Mr. Allee was retired from the U.S. Air Force with 27 years' service. He had been a chief warrant officer, having served in World War II, Korea, and Viet Nam.
He was Roman Catholic by faith.
Mr. Allee was preceded in death by his wife, Blanche Marie (Morgenson) Allee.
Survivors include two sons, Michael M. Allee, Roanoke, Va., and George M. Allee, Fort Ashby; two grandchildren, Robert W. Allee and Elizabeth F. Allee, both of Fort Ashby.
Friends will be received at the Upchurch Funeral Home, Route 28, Fort Ashby, on Tuesday from 7 to 8 p.m.
Interment will be in the Florida National Cemetery, Bushnell, Fla.
EVELYN M. ALLEN
CUMBERLAND - Evelyn Maxine Allen, 86, of 12017 Wood Rose Ave. NE, Cumberland, died Wednesday, March 12, 1997, at Memorial Hospital.
Born Oct. 2, 1910, in Cumberland, she was the daughter of the late William F. Albright and the late Pearl (Chidester) Albright. She also was preceded in death by her husband, Edgar Allen, in 1956.
Mrs. Allen was retired from Celanese Fibers Corp. of America. She was a member of Christian Fellowship of Cumberland.
Surviving are two sisters, Winona Phillips, Rawlings, and Lillie Mae Fertig, Cumberland; one brother, Ward Albright, LaVale; and special and caring friends, Shirley Plummer, Cumberland, Tom and Clara Weaver, Short Gap, W.Va., Jim and Karen Wilson and family, Cumberland, and Thelma Casteel, Cumberland.
Friends will be received at the Merritt-Adams Funeral Home, 404 Decatur St., Cumberland, on Thursday from 7 to 9 p.m.
Services will be held at the funeral home on Friday at 10 a.m. with the Rev. Francis Morris officiating.
Interment will be in Rest Lawn Memorial Gardens.
WILLIAM V. ALLEN
CUMBERLAND - William Vancen Allen, 87, went to be with the Lord Wednesday, March 26, 1997, at Memorial Hospital.
Mr. Allen was born June 12, 1909, in Elkins, W.Va.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Viola (Bishop) Allen.
Mr. Allen was a carpenter for the Local 1024.
He was a member of Mount Tabor United Methodist Church, where he was a Sunday school teacher.
Surviving are two sons, Charles V. Allen and wife Joyce, Charlotte, N.C., and Howard T. Allen and wife Sandra, Cumberland; five daughters, Arvalene Walters, Oldtown, Opal Dolly, Flintstone, Josephine McDonald and husband Joe, Beltsville, Sandy Wentling and husband Lawrence, Corriganville, and Janet Magrogan and husband Ted, Beltsville; 20 grandchildren; 51 great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren.
Friends will be received at Scarpelli Funeral Home, 108 Virginia Ave., Cumberland, Friday from 3 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m.
Services will be conducted at the funeral home Saturday at 10 a.m. with the Rev. Fred F. Parker officiating.
Interment will be in Mount Tabor Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Fred Allen, Gary Allen, Kenneth Walters, Donald Magrogan, Larry Wentling, Rick Day, and Timothy Day.
BLUCHER F. ALLISON
MOUNT STORM, W.Va. - Blucher F. Allison, 72, of Mount Storm, died Thursday, July 17, 1997, at Memorial Hospital, Cumberland, Md.
Born May 17, 1925, in Chevrolet, Ky., he was the son of Marion K. Rowland and the late Blucher F. Allison Sr.
He was a graduate of the University of Kentucky with a degree in mining engineering. He was employed throughout the states of Kentucky and West Virginia. He was the project engineer for Laurel Run Mining and later became superintendent for them. He also supervised the installation of "B" Mine at Mettiki Mines, retiring from there on January 23, 1989.
Mr. Allison was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II having served aboard the USS Hancock in Air Group Seven as a tail gunner and navigator on a torpedo bomber. He was a member of Mount Storm VFW, Abraham Lincoln Post No. 6735, Mount Storm Lions Club, the USS Hancock Association, Professional Engineers of West Virginia, and the West Virginia Land Surveyors.
Mr. Allison and his wife oversaw the K&A Campgrounds at Mount Storm Lake for 20 years. He was also affiliated with the Baptist Church.
In addition to his mother, surviving are his wife, Ruth (Kline) Allison; two daughters, Penelope A. Fletcher, Newport News, Va., Rebekah G. Weber, Ambridge, Pa.; one stepdaughter, Linda Evans, Elk Garden, W.Va.; three sons, Blucher F. Allison, III, Jacksonville, Fla., Richard R. Allison, Greensboro, N.C., Thomas K. Allison, Cumberland, Md.; two stepsons, David B. Kline, Mount Storm, and Stephen H. Kline, Washington, D.C.; 11 grandchildren; one step-grandchild; two great-grandchildren; and one step-great-grandchild.
Friends will be received at the Stewart Funeral Home, Oakland, on Saturday, July 19, 1997, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.
Services will be held at Mount Storm United Methodist Church on Sunday, July 20, 1997, at 1 p.m. with the Rev. William Anderson and the Rev. Shelba Sisler officiating.
Interment will be at Maysville Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations be made to the Memorial Hospital Hospice Unit, Cumberland, or to the Mount Storm United Methodist Church Building Fund.
EDGAR A. ALT
FORT ASHBY, W.Va. - Edgar Alden Alt, 87, of Fort Ashby, died Thursday, June 12, 1997, at the Dawn View Manor Nursing Home.
Born March 21, 1910, in Landes, he was the son of the late Charles H. and Mary Rebecca (Judy) Alt.
He also was preceded in death by his wife, Opal Grace (Spencer) Alt in 1991; two brothers, Fred Alt and Homer Alt; three sisters, Myrtle Yokum, Goldie Simmons, and Nellie Mason; and one granddaughter, Tammy Logsdon.
Mr. Alt was retired from the W.Va. Highway Administration, where he had been a foreman. He was a member of the Mineral Baptist Church.
Surviving are four sons, John Alt, Grand Junction, Colo., Fred L. Alt, Wardensville, Donald Alt, Slidell, La., and Forest Alt, Forest, Va.; three daughters, Cornelia "Connie" Reichenbach, Fisher, Ind., Betty L. Logsdon, Fort Ashby, and Carol Logsdon, Keyser; two sisters, Lela Staggs, a resident at Devlin Manor Nursing Home, and Dorothy Niner, a resident at Dawn View Manor Nursing Home; 23 grandchildren; and 40 great-grandchildren.
Friends will be received at the Upchurch Funeral Home, Route 28, Fort Ashby, on Sunday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Services will be held at the Mineral Baptist Church, Route 46, Fort Ashby, on Monday at 1 p.m. with the Rev. Ross Halbersma officiating. The body will be taken to the church one hour prior to the service. Interment will be in the Mineral Baptist Church Cemetery.
Grandsons will serve as pallbearers.
Memorial contributions may be made to the charity of the donor's choice.
RALPH C. ALT, SR.
BURLINGTON, W.Va. - Ralph Clinton Alt Sr., 72, of Route 1, Box 174, Burlington, died Tuesday, May 13, 1997, at his residence.
Born Feb. 25, 1925, at Smoke Hole, he was a son of the late Lottie Mae (Alt) Reel.
Mr. Alt retired from Seneca Quarries. He was a U.S. Navy Veteran of World War II and the Korean War. He was a member of the DAV.
Surviving are two sons, Ralph Alt and wife Shannon, and Wes Alt, all of Burlington; two daughters, Linda Dineen and husband Ralph, Little Falls, N.Y., and Connie Adams and husband Paul, Burlington; one stepdaughter, Cathy Riggleman and husband Carl, Burlington; one brother, Charles J. Reel, California; three sisters, Irene Berg and Ann Hesse, both of Maysville, and Louella Rodgers, Annadale, Va.; nine grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
Friends will be received at the Rotruck-Smith Funeral Home, Keyser, on Thursday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.
Memorial services will be conducted in the funeral home chapel on Friday at 1 p.m. with the Rev. Lyle Berg officiating.
At Mr. Alt's request, his body will be cremated.
