MILDRED B. ASH
CUMBERLAND - Mildred Beatrice "Maggie" Ash, 96, formerly of the Cumberland Nursing Home, died Tuesday, June 24, 1997, at Memorial Hospital.
Born February 23, 1901, in Maryland, she was the daughter of the late Thomas J. and Anna (Robinette) Robosson.
She also was preceded in death by her husband, James Walter Ash; a son, James Ash; eight brothers; and two sisters.
Mrs. Ash was an employee of Fort Cumberland Hotel and Lucas Service Center, Cresaptown.
She was a member of Centre Street United Methodist Church.
Surviving are a grandson, David Ash, Arlington, Va.; and several nieces and nephews.
Friends will be received at the Merritt-Adams Funeral Home, 404 Decatur St., Cumberland, on Wednesday from 7 to 9 p.m.
Services will be conducted at the funeral home on Thursday at 10 a.m. with the Rev. Lloyd B. McCanna officiating.
Interment will be in Hillcrest Burial Park.
ROSE MARIE ASHFORD
PIEDMONT, W.Va. - Rose Marie Ashford, 85, of Moran Manor Nursing Home, Westernport, formerly of Lanham, Md., died Wednesday, July 23, 1997, at the nursing home.
Born October 31, 1911, in Piedmont, she was the daughter of the late Illario and Rose Marie (Carroce) Albanese.
She also was preceded in death by her husband, Homer C. Ashford, on October 24, 1987; four brothers; and three sisters. She was the last surviving member of her immediate family.
Mrs. Ashford was retired from government service.
She was Catholic by faith.
Surviving are two nieces, Rose Marie Mayolo, Wheeling, and Mary Ann Mayolo, Lanham; and a nephew, Sylvio Mayolo, Wickliffe, Ky.
Friends will be received at the Fredlock Funeral Home, Piedmont, on Friday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.
The rosary will be recited at the funeral home on Friday at 7:30 p.m.
Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Peter's Catholic Church, Westernport, on Saturday at 10 a.m. with Father Jim Hannon as celebrant.
Interment will be in the parish cemetery.
IRVING T. ATHEY
KEYSER, W.VA. - Irving T. "Doc" Athey, 75, of 315 South E St., Keyser, died Sunday, Nov. 2, 1997, at Sacred Heart Hospital, Cumberland, Md.
Born July 23, 1922, in Keyser, he was the son of the late James T. "Doc" and S. June (Kesner) Athey.
He also was preceded in death by his first wife, J. Allene (Wagley) Athey on July 13, 1981.
Mr. Athey was a retired telegraph operator for the Chessie Railroad System.
He served as mayor of Keyser for 10 years, and three years as a city councilman.
He was a member of Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church, Keyser, Davis Lodge No. 51 AF&AM, Keyser, Ali Ghan Shrine, Cumberland, Scottish Rite of Wheeling, and the Keyser Moose Lodge No. 662.
He was a World War II U.S. Army veteran, a member of the Eleventh Armored Division, member and past commander of VFW Post No. 6775 Queens Point, McCoole, and the Boyce-Houser Post No. 41 American Legion, Keyser.
Surviving are his wife, Marlene E. (Nichols) Athey; one son, William I. Athey and wife Judy, Keyser; one grandson, Clinton William Athey; two brothers, Frederick L. Athey and wife Barbara; and Arnold Athey, both of Keyser.
Friends will be received at the Markwood McKenzie Funeral Home, Keyser, on Monday from 7 to 9 p.m. and on Tuesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.
Services will be held at the funeral home on Wednesday, Nov. 5, 1997, at 1 p.m. with the Rev. S.D. Sawyers and the Rev. Michael Dean officiating.
Masonic graveside services and entombment will be in Potomac Memorial Gardens Mausoleum, Keyser.
VFW Post No. 6775 Queens Point will hold a memorial service at the funeral home on Tuesday at 7 p.m.
If desired, memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society or the American Diabetes Association.
HAROLD E. AUBER
SOMERSET, Pa. - Harold E. Auber, 88, formerly of the John F. Kennedy Homes, North Mechanic Street, Cumberland, and West Church Street, Somerset, died Monday, Dec. 15, 1997, at the Somerset Hospital. He had been a patient at Patriot Manor Nursing Home.
Born Nov. 27, 1909, at Mannington, W.Va., he was the son of the late Leonard Auber and Elizabeth (Pebler) Auber.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Ruth (Shirley) Auber.
Mr. Auber retired as a sales representative for Wally's Electrical Supply Company with 12 years of service; he was a member of Grace United Methodist Church, Somerset; and he was a former member of the First Presbyterian Church, Cumberland.
He is survived by his widow, E. Virginia (O'Brien) Auber; one son, R. Stuart Auber, Curwensville, Pa.; and two grandchildren.
At Mr. Auber's request, his body was cremated.
Memorial services will be held at Grace United Methodist Church, 320 Felgar Rd., Somerset, on Thursday, Dec. 18, 1997, at 10 a.m. with the Rev. Charles F. Olson officiating.
Private interment will be held at Stone Church Presbyterian Cemetery, Wheeling, W.Va.
The family has requested that donations take the form of contributions to the Grace United Methodist Church, Somerset.
The Kight Funeral Home, 309-311 Decatur St., Cumberland, is in charge of the arrangements.
JACK W. AULT
CUMBERLAND - Jack Wesley Ault, 78, of Cumberland, died Wednesday, Feb. 26, 1997, at Memorial Hospital.
Born Nov. 14, 1918, in Cumberland, he was the son of the late Jacob Ault and Ardella (Cross) Ault Stein.
He also was preceded in death by one daughter, Barbara (Ault) Eberstein; one sister, Eva Riggleman; and two brothers, James Ault and Paul Ault.
Mr. Ault was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II. He served with the 305th Ordinance Maintenance Co. in the European Theater.
He was retired from the Columbia Gas. Co. of Maryland, and attended Centre Street United Methodist Church.
Surviving are his wife, Audrey (Snyder) Ault; one son, John Wesley Ault and wife Debbi, Baltimore; one daughter, Joy Elizabeth Aaron, Baltimore; two grandchildren, Barbara Suzanne Eberstein, Lusby, and Jefferson Bradley Aaron, Baltimore; and two sisters, Velma Furlow, Mount Savage, and Nevalline Seggie, Cleveland, Ohio.
Friends will be received at the George-Upchurch Funeral Home, 202 Greene St., Cumberland, on Thursday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.
The funeral service will be held in the funeral home on Friday, Feb. 28, 1997, at 1 p.m., with the Rev. Lloyd B. McCanna officiating.
Interment will be in Maryland State Veterans Cemetery, Rocky Gap.
SARAH D. AVERS
KEYSER, W.Va. - Sarah D. Avers, 87, of 121 Orchard Street, Keyser, died on Monday, Dec. 1, 1997, at Potomac Valley Hospital, Keyser.
Born Oct. 27, 1910, in Keyser, she was the daughter of the late Joseph and Maud (Wenner) Dennison.
She also was preceded in death by her husband, Carl E. Avers, on July 26, 1975.
Mrs. Avers was a Mineral County Elementary School Teacher. She received her education at Potomac State College and Fairmont State College. She managed the Keyser High School Cafeteria and was a teacher for the Keyser Nursery School at Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church.
She was a member of the Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church, Alkire Chapter #10 Order of the Eastern Star, and a member of the Preceptor Alpha Epsilon Chapter of Beta Sigma Phi Sorority.
Surviving are a son, Carl D. "Denny" Avers, and wife, Nancy, Reston, Va.; and step-granddaughter, Sherry Sparrow.
Friends will be received at the Markwood McKenzie Funeral Home, Keyser, on Thursday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Services will be conducted at the funeral home on Friday, Dec. 5, 1997, at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Matthew L. Riegel officiating.
Interment will be in Queens Point Cemetery, Keyser.
In lieu of flowers, the family request that memorial contributions be made to the Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church.
The Alkire Chapter #10 O.E.S. will hold memorial services at the funeral home on Thursday at 7 p.m.
