Mary V. Oliverio
Services will be held Thursday, March 11, for longtime St. Helena homemaker Mary Virginia Oliverio, 76, who died March 7 [2004] at Johns Hopkins Bayview Medical Center.
The service begins 10 a.m. at Duda-Ruck Funeral Home, 7922 Wise Ave. Interment will follow at St. Stanislaus Cemetery.
Visitation at the funeral home was scheduled for Wednesday, March 10, from 3 to 5 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m.
Born in Clarksburg, W.Va., the former Mary Mancuso was a young woman when her family moved to St. Helena. After her marriage to Louis A. Oliverio, she devoted her life to taking care of her home and family. For many years, she babysat in her home.
She was a member of the St. Helena Community Association. She loved flower gardening and was well-liked in her neighborhood. Predeceased in 1970 by her husband, she is survived by daughter Patricia Ballance of Briarwood Estates, sons Dennis Oliverio of Canton, Robert Oliverio of Bel Air and Ronald Oliverio of Dundalk, sisters Florence Alevato and Evelyn Tamburo, both of Dundalk, and six grandchildren. She also was predeceased by nine brothers and sisters.

Anthony Poremski
Former Dundalk resident Anthony "Little Andy" Poremski died Feb. 22 [2004] at age 94.
Born and raised in Dundalk, he married Mary Lustica in 1929 and settled in Fells Point.
Mr. Poremski worked at the Bethlehem Steel Shipyard during World War II.
In 1945, he became a longshoreman and a member of International Longshoremen's Association Local 829, retiring in 1972 with 27 years of service.
Mr. Poremski enjoyed cigars, horse racing and taking care of his backyard vegetable garden.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by daughters Rita Albers, Joan Kruszewski and Linda Schmidt, sons Robert, John and Richard Porem-ski and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Two sons, Anthony and Albert Poremski, predeceased him.
A funeral Mass was held Feb. 26 at Holy Rosary Church. Interment followed at Holy Rosary Cemetery.

Nora M. Swiger
Former longtime Old Inverness resident Nora M. Swiger died Feb. 19 [2004] at age 90.
The former Nora Fowler was born and raised in Wallace, W.Va. In 1931, she married Ardis R. Swiger and moved to Old Inverness.
An avid quilter and gardener, she was an active member of Inverness Presbyterian Church and Crown Rebekah Lodge until she moved to Richmond in 2003 to live with her daughter.
Predeceased in 1981 by her husband of 49 years, she is survived by children Ardis J. and Sidney C. Swiger and Helen J. Allen, four grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. She also was predeceased by daughter Bonnie June Swiger, who died of meningitis at age 3, four brothers and sisters and grandson Robert L. Allen.
The Rev. Robert Dillard of Inverness Presbyterian Church conducted services Feb. 23 at Duda-Ruck Funeral Home. Interment followed at Moreland Memorial Park Cemetery.

Margaret Watts
Searles Road resident Margaret Watts, 77, died Feb. 26 [2004] at Johns Hopkins Bayview Medical Center.
Born and raised in Fells Point, the former Margaret Hoyt lived on Searles Road since 1955.
Predeceased in 1994 by husband Melvin Watts, she is survived by sons Robert, Alan and Dale Watts, daughter Katherine Watts, brother Charles J. Hoyt and four grandchildren. She also leaves behind longtime friend and neighbor Mary Wachter. She was predeceased by sisters Bertha Lee, Lina Stiegler and Ida Petterson.
Services were held March 1 at Connelly Funeral Home. Interment followed at Holy Redeemer Cemetery.

Glenn F. Whitmer
A memorial service will be held Saturday, March 13, for Dundalk Avenue resident Glenn F. Whitmer, 75, who died March 6 [2004] at Johns Hopkins Bayview Medical Center of cardiac arrest and complications of COPD.
The service begins at noon at Minnick's Restaurant, 7100 Sollers Point Road.
Mr. Whitmer was a retired yardman for the Allied Trucking Co. at Dundalk Marine Terminal.
A U.S. Army veteran and a member of the National Rifle Association, he enjoyed hunting and discussing politics.
He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Mary J. Glaze Whitmer, daughters Sue Via and Kristin Hudson, son Kenneth Whitmer and four grandchildren.

William 'Howard' Ayres
William "Howard" Ayres, who spent the summers of his youth in Fort Howard, died Feb. 17 [2004] of heart failure at his Bowleys Quarters home. He was 67.
Mr. Ayres was born and raised in Northeast Baltimore but acquired his love of the Chesapeake Bay and life on the county's east side by summering at the Fort Howard and Bowleys Quarters waterfront homes of his maternal and paternal grandparents. He had fond memories of crabbing in Shallow Creek as a youngster.
He was a 1963 graduate of the University of Baltimore.
Mr. Ayres married the former Marsha Feete in 1956 and started to work on the ground floor at Warfield-Rohr Casket Co., his wife's family business.
"He started out putting hardware on caskets and preparing them for delivery," said his wife, principal of Charlesmont Elementary School. "He started at the bottom and became a truck driver, salesman and ultimately owner and president of the company."
Mr. Ayres served in the U.S. Army Reserves in 1958 and with the West Virginia National Guard during the Berlin Crisis of the 1960s.
He was an active member of many professional organizations, including the Maryland and Virginia state funeral suppliers associations. He was a past president of the York Distributors Association.
The avid boater enjoyed watercraft of all types and treasured family outings to towns along the Chesapeake Bay. He also enjoyed fishing and hunting with family members.
Mr. Ayres collected antique cars. His 1950 Mercury was part of his funeral procession. He also collected decoys and was known for maintaining an immaculate lawn and gardens. He cared for many pets, including horses and dogs, over the years, and fed Canada geese that claimed his Bowleys Quarters yard as their own.
In addition to his wife of 47 years, Mr. Ayres is survived by daughters Carol Rosenberger and Gail Osmeyer, brother Lewis Ayres, sister Elaine Boyles and five grandchildren. The Rev. Robert Crawford of Fork Methodist Church officiated at services held at the Lassahn Funeral Home of Kings-ville on Feb. 21. Interment followed at Oak Lawn Cemetery.
Memorial donations can be made to the Bowleys Quarters Volunteer Fire Department's Water Rescue Unit, 900 Bowleys Quarters Road, Baltimore, MD 21220.

Valeda Baglioni
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Saturday, March 20, for longtime Dundalk homemaker Valeda Baglioni, 79, who died at home March 15 [2004].
The Mass begins 10 a.m. at St. Rita Catholic Church on Dunmanway. Interment will follow at Holly Hill Memorial Gardens.
Visitation at Duda-Ruck Funeral Home, 7922 Wise Ave., is scheduled for Thursday and Friday, March 18 and 19, from 3 to 5 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m.
Born and raised in Manchester, N.H., the former Valeda Joyal and husband, Anthony Baglioni, moved to Dundalk in the late 1940s.
A member of St. Rita's altar guild and an excellent seamstress, Mrs. Baglioni made many altar cloths and priest vestments. She also enjoyed knitting and crocheting for her family.
In addition to her husband of 58 years, she is survived by daughters Patricia Tisher, Linda Randall and Janet Barnes, sons James and Anthony Baglioni Jr., sister Aurice Gagne, four grandchildren and two great-grandchild-'ren. She was predeceased by two brothers and a sister.

John A. Bena Sr.
Purple Heart recipient John Anthony Bena Sr. died March 5 [2004] at Johns Hopkins Bayview Medical Center. He was 85 and lived on Lawrence Road for 50 years.
A World War II veteran, he served four years in the U.S. Army. He held membership in Dundalk American Legion Post 38 and the Veterans of Foreign Wars.
Mr. Bena retired from Bethlehem Steel with 32 years of service and was a longtime member of Sacred Heart of Mary Church.
In additon to his wife of 56 years, Eloise (nee Herring), he is survived by son John A. Bena Jr., sisters Mary Barley-Slezak and Katie Barbera and two grandchildren. He was predeceased by four sisters and two brothers.
Services were held March 7 at Duda-Ruck Funeral Home. Interment followed at Oak Lawn Cemetery.

Tammy L. Ignatowski
Dundalk homemaker Tammy L. Ignatowski, 37, died at home March 1 [2004] after a long illness.
The former Tammy Lynn Whitaker grew up on Edsworth Road and graduated from Dundalk High School in 1984. She worked for Northeastern Heating and Plumbing in Rosedale for about five years before becoming a full-time homemaker and mother.
She and her husband lived in Harford County for about 10 years before moving back to Dundalk two years ago.
She will be missed by her husband of 16 years, Michael Ignatowski, son Zachary Ignatowski, parents Rose and Donald Whitaker of Dundalk, sisters Theresa Rogers of Oak Harbor, Wash., and Pam Whitaker of Dundalk, grandmother Betty Whit-aker of Dundalk and many other family members.
Services were held March 5 at Connelly Funeral Home. Interment followed at Dulaney Valley Memorial Gardens.

Walter A. Lubinski
Longtime North Point Boulevard resident Walter Adam Lubinski, 82, died March 7 [2004] at Franklin Square Hospital.
Mr. Lubinski, a Silver Star recipient, served in the U.S. Army during World War II.
He was a longtime member of Our Lady of Hope Church and Bethlehem Council 2605 Knights of Columbus.
An excavating contractor, he owned and operated Lubinski Contracting for many years. He later worked as a truck driver.
Reading was a favorite pastime.
Predeceased in 1972 by his wife, Elizabeth M. (nee Shepp), he is survived by sons Walter J. Lubinski of Dundalk and Joseph F. Lubinski of Dallas, two sisters, one brother, four grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. He also leaves behind longtime companion Leila Mae "Sally" Ashton of North Point Village.
A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated March 10 at Our Lady of Hope Catholic Church. Interment followed at St. Stanislaus Cemetery.

John W. Mason
John W. Mason, 84, a longtime Old Dundalk resident, died Feb. 28 [2004] at an assisted living center in Harford County.
Mr. Mason worked in the maintenance department of Western Electric Co. for 32 years.
He was born and raised in Kingwood, W.Va., where his father was superintendent of schools. His brother, Robert Mason, was a professor at Shepardstown University. Both predeceased him.
He had been a member of Young at Heart Senior Club.
He leaves behind dear friends Gene and Catherine Caldwell and Chuck and Lorrie Roberts, all of Dundalk. He had no known survivors.
Graveside services will be held March 23 in Kingwood.

James H. Parrish
Turner Station native James Herbert Parrish, 35, who played for 10 NFL teams, died of cancer March 10 [2004] in Dallas.
A front-page article about how well he was facing terminal illness was featured in The Eagle's Feb. 5 issue.
Parrish, who played football for Dundalk High School before graduating in 1986, earned a full scholarship to Temple University, where he studied finance and political science and played football.
His pro career began in 1992 when he signed with the Miami Dolphins. He went on to play with the Indianapolis Colts, San Diego Chargers, San Francisco 49ers and with the Dallas Cowboys team that defeated Buffalo in the 1994 Super Bowl. He made the rosters of five more NFL teams, the Philadelphia Eagles, Pittsburgh Steelers, New York Jets, Chicago Bears and Kansas City Chiefs, before playing with the London Monarchs, the Barcelona Dragons and the Montreal Alouettes.
Parrish had a successful second career with the Morgan Stanley investment firm in Dallas and had earlier worked for Merrill Lynch.
Surviving are his wife, the former Jennifer Robertson, son James H. Parrish III, daughter Jordan N. Parrish, mother Sharon Robinson, stepfather Charles T. Robinson, stepsister Rebecca Robinson, stepbrother Charles T. Robinson Jr. and many other family members. He was predeceased by his father, James H. Parrish Sr.
Services were to be held March 17 at Greater St. John Baptist Church, with interment following at Kings Memorial Cemetery.

H. Russell Harris
Former Dundalk resident Harvey Russell Harris died of heart and lung failure Feb. 26 [2004] at age 76.
A Jones Creek native, Mr. Harris served 18 months in Germany with the U.S. Army's occupational forces following World War II.
He married the former Mildred M. Toland on Sept. 18, 1948, at Sacred Heart of Jesus Church in Highlandtown.
Mr. Harris lived on Cornwall Road for 45 years before moving to Overlea 11 years ago. He was a life member of Veterans of Foreign Wars and a former member of Dundalk Post 6694. After he moved to Overlea, he transferred to Charles Evering VFW Post 6506.
He also was a lifetime member of Dundalk American Legion Post 38 and Dundalk Moose Lodge 1228.
A retired machinist, he worked for Bethlehem Steel for 30 years.
In addition to his wife of 55 years, he is survived by brothers Bruce Harris and Stanton Martin, sisters Muriel Jones and Etta May Thornton and many nieces and nephews.
He also leaves behind dear friend and longtime sister-in-law Ann Harris.
Services on March 23 at John Miller Funeral Home were followed by entombment at Gardens of Faith Mausoleum.

Virginia B. Beck
Virginia Belle Beck, a former longtime Dundalk resident, died March 16 [2004] at age 83.
Born and raised in Dundalk, the former Ginny Stone devoted her life to taking care of her home and family.
She had been a member of St. Timothy's Evangelical Lutheran Church. After she moved to the Cub Hill home of her daughter and son-in-law, she joined Christus Victor Lutheran Church.
Predeceased in 1987 by her husband, Louis Beck, she is survived by daughter Joye Carneal, brothers Thomas and Richard Stone, two grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
The Rev. Joseph Skillman of Christus Victor Lutheran Church, longtime family friend and former pastor of St. Timothy's, conducted services March 18 at Duda-Ruck Funeral Home. Interment followed at Oak Lawn Cemetery.
