Agnes Theresa Higgs Ford
Agnes Theresa Higgs Ford, 93, of Lexington Park, MD, died Saturday, December 9, 2000 following a lengthy illness, at the home of her daughter Mary Berenice Fairfax.
Born on August 23, 1907 in Medley’s Neck, MD, she was the daughter of the late Thomas Emanuel and Florene Lucretia Bowles Higgs.
Mrs. Ford was a lifelong resident of St. Mary’s County. She was a homemaker and avid gardener, and devoted her life to caring for her extensive family. She also assisted in running the St. Mary’s County Alms House on Route 5 across from the County Fair grounds until it closed.
She was preceded in death by her husband, George Ignatius "Nace" Ford, Sr. and her sisters Helena C. Armstrong and Frances A. Wiltrout.
Mrs. Ford, beloved Mother, Grandmother, Great-Grandmother and Great-Great-Grandmother, is survived by daughters Agnes F. Kerig of Ventura, CA, Catherine Ann Stone of Park Hall, MD, Mary Berenice Fairfax of Lexington Park, MD and son George I. Ford, Jr. of Suffolk, VA. She is also survived by her sisters, Alice Estelle Woodburn of Leonardtown, MD, Mary Berenice Ferguson of Louisville, KY, Mary Eva Abell of Medley’s Neck, MD, Charlotte Ann Metzger of Waldorf, MD, Rebecca F. Shaulis of Rockville, MD and brother Thomas E. Higgs of Medley’s Neck, MD. Mrs. Ford leaves behind 16 grandchildren, 22 great-grandchildren and 5 great-great-grandchildren.

Interment will follow in Charles Memorial Gardens, Leonardtown, MD.

Barbara Ann Wood
Barbara Ann Wood of Mechanicsville, MD, died on December 7, 2000 in St. Mary’s Hospital.
Born on May 27, 1937 in Solomons, MD, she was the daughter of the late Joseph Kenneth and Indiana Florist Mason Elliott.
She was the loving wife of the late Howard Ralph Wood whom she married in Baltimore, MD, on October 8, 1955. He preceded her in death on June 13, 1998. She was the devoted mother of Howard R. "Chip" Wood, Jr. of Sudlersville, MD, Roderick Wood of Annapolis, MD, Charlene Fowler of Chestertown, MD, Craig Wood, Bruce Wood and Dale Wood all of Mechanicsville, MD.

Ruth Agnes Peacock Stone
Ruth Agnes Peacock Stone of Park Hall, MD, died on December 4, 2000 at her home.
Born on August 12, 1925 in Lexington Park, MD, she was the daughter of the late Eugene and Cora Peacock.
She was the loving wife of the late Ernest L. Stone, Jr. whom she married on December 15, 1946 in St. Michael’s Catholic Church.
He preceded her in death on July 4, 1991.
She was the devoted mother of Jean Nial, Diane Windsor, James Stone all of Park Hall, MD and Lois Rayburn of Nebraska. She was the sister of the late Beatrice McKay, James Peacock, Lucille Gatton and Thomas Peacock. She is survived by 13 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren. Mrs. Stone attended St. Michael’s School. She was a homemaker and worked several years with her husband at the Southern States Store in Park Hall, MD.
Mass of Christian Burial will be offered on Thursday, December 7, 2000 at 10:00 AM in Holy Face Catholic Church with Rev. Kevin O’Reilly, officiating.
Interment will follow in Charles Memorial Gardens, Leonardtown, MD.

Mary Catherine Norris
Mary Catherine Norris of Hollywood, MD, died on December 2, 2000 at her home.
Born August 19, 1906 in Hollywood, MD she was the daughter of the late John Lewis Abell, Sr. and Jane Loretta Wible Abell.
She was the loving wife of the late William Richley Norris. She was the devoted mother of William Richley "Dickie" Norris, Jr., John Abell Norris, Catherine Dolores Wheeler, Robert Bernard Norris, Charles Joseph Norris, Elizabeth Jean Guy all of Hollywood, MD, Philip Norbert Norris of LaPlata, MD and George Franklin Norris of Mechanicsville, MD. She is the sister of Loretta Goldsborough, Martha Johnson both of Hollywood, MD, and the late Manning Abell, Vivian Abell, Bert Abell, Sr., Claude Abell, Martin Abell, Karl Abell, John Lewis Abell, Jr., Addie Abell, Agatha Adams and George Abell. She is also survived by 36 grandchildren, 50 great-grandchildren and 9 great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by 3 grandchildren and 1 great grandchild.

Robert Larry Guy
Robert Larry Guy of Loveville, MD, died on December 2, 2000 in Georgetown University Hospital.
Born April 9, 1950 in Leonardtown, MD, he was the son of Mary Elizabeth Payne Guy of Loveville, MD, and the late Robert William Guy.
He was the loving husband of Karen Ann DeRosa Guy, whom he married October 12, 1974 in St. Joseph’s Catholic Church. He was the devoted father of Robert Michael Guy, Jeffrey Alan Guy, Melissa Ann Guy all of Loveville, MD. He was the brother of Leonard Donald Guy, Sonia Walker both of Loveville, MD, Barbara L. Goode of Chaptico, MD and the late William Jerry Guy. He is survived by his 2 grandchildren, Ashley Kathleen Guy and Gregory Michael Guy.

Esther N. Hart
Esther Naomi Hart, 70, of Manchester, died Thursday, Nov. 26, 1998, at her home.
Born July 8, 1928, in Midland, she was the daughter of the late Benjamin Harrison and Henrietta Lenora Bowman Bittinger. She was the wife of the late William Harvey Hart.
Surviving are daughters Denise F. Hart of Manchester, Drema Naomi Pursell of Florida, and Shelia Rae Scanlan of Winchester, Va.; sister Orpha E. Belford of Paw Paw, W.Va.; brothers Ellsworth I. Bittinger of Paw Paw, W.Va., Paul S. Bittinger of Westernport; six grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
A funeral service will be held at 12:30 p.m. Sunday at Eline Funeral Home, 934 S. Main St., Hampstead.
Interment will be in New Lutheran Cemetery, Manchester.
Friends may call from 7 to 9 p.m. today at the funeral home.

William C. Hough
William Clay Hough, 87, of Frederick, died Thursday, Nov. 26, 1998, at Washington Hospital Center, after an illness of five weeks.
Born Oct. 7, 1911, in Union Bridge, he was the son of the late Edgar C. Sr. and Nellie May Clay Hough.
He was the husband of Esther Roop Hough, his wife of 55 years.
He was a 1928 graduate of Union Bridge High School. He was a member of Frederick Church of the Brethren, where he was a former Sunday school teacher of the Men's Bible Class. He was a former active member of the Linwood Brethren Church. He served in the Army during World War II in the 29th Yankee Division in France and Germany. He was formerly employed with I.A. Abb, later known as McHenry Auto Parts, as a parts manager for 30 years. During his retirement, he enjoyed caning chairs and tutoring with the Literacy Council.
Surviving, in addition to his wife, are daughters and sons-in-law Mary H. and Louis Messler, Rebecca A. and Leo Duncan, all of Hagerstown, and daughter Martha R. Hough of Frederick; son and daughter-in-law Stephen C. and Patricia Hough of Falls Church, Va.; sister Helen Devilbiss of New Windsor; brother Edgar C. Hough Jr. of New Windsor; and seven grandchildren.
He was predeceased by sister Margaret White.
A memorial service will be held at 3 p.m. Sunday at Frederick Church of the Brethren, with his pastors, the Revs. Paul Mundey and Lerry Fogle officiating.
A private graveside service will be held in Pipe Creek Cemetery at the convenience of the family.
There will be no public visitation.
