Dorothy L. Johnson
72, of Finksburg
Dorothy Lee Johnson, 72, of Finksburg, died Tuesday, April 28, 1998, at the home of her daughter.
Born July 10, 1925, in West Virginia, she was the daughter of the late Drury and Ruth Alexander Hayes. She was the wife of the late Charles Lee Johnson.
She had been a nurse and was retired from Springfield Hospital Center, Sykesville.
Surviving are daughter Judy Lynn Marsiglia of Westminster; brothers William Hayes of Baltimore and Jack Hayes of Aiken, S.C.; sisters Sarah Popp of Dundalk, Donia Lastfogel of Edgewater, Nadine Barranco of Lauderhill, Fla.; and two grandchildren.
Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Friday at the Haight Funeral Home & Chapel, Md. 32, Sykesville. Interment will be in Mt. View Cemetery, Marriottsville.
Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Mary J. Knuckey
88, of Westminster
Mary Jane Knuckey, 88, of Westminster, died Wednesday, April 29, 1998, at the Westminster Nursing and Convalescent Center, where she had resided since 1995.
Born in Pennsylvania on Oct. 10, 1909, she was the daughter of the late John James and Margaret Black Harris. She was the wife of the late David Knuckey.
In the 1960s, she retired from Calvert Distillery, where she had been employed as a lineworker for 23 years. She was a member of the First United Presbyterian Church of Westminster.
Surviving are children Jane Biggs of Westminster, William Knuckey of Baltimore, Thomas Knuckey of Glen Burnie; sister Margaret Dingman of Dundalk; 11 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren, two great-great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by son Delbert Knuckey.
Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Pritts Funeral Home and Chapel, 412 Washington Road, Westminster, with the Rev. Frederick P. Eckhardt officiating. Interment will follow in Cedar Hill Cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.

Dr. David Douglas LeGrand
81, of Columbia
Dr. David Douglas LeGrand, 81, of Columbia, formerly of Owings Mills, died Monday, April 27, 1998, at Howard County General Hospital after an extended illness.
Born Aug. 12, 1916, in Seattle, Wash., he was the son of the late Samuel W. and Mary Kingston LeGrand. He was the husband of Alice C. Carlisle LeGrand.
He was a psychoanalyst with a practice in Baltimore for many years. In 1938, he received a bachelor's degree in chemical engineering at the University of Washington. He worked for Standard Oil in California for two years before becoming a job analyst for the U.S. Employment Service. He received his medical degree from Washington University in St. Louis in 1944, and served his residency at veterans hospitals in Ft. Worth, Texas, and Baltimore. He then trained in psychiatry at Johns Hopkins Hospital. He was past president and treasurer of the Baltimore-Washington Psychoanalytic Institute.
Surviving, in addition to his wife, are daughters Catherine LeGrand of Montreal, Canada, and Ellen Myers of Baltimore; son Thomas LeGrand of Montreal; and four grandchildren.
Memorial services will be held at 11:30 a.m. Saturday in the auditorium of Vantage House, 5400 Vantage Point Road, Columbia, with the Rev. Frederick J. Hanna officiating. Interment will be private.

Louise M. Sanner
70, of Baltimore
Louise Mamie Sanner, 70, of Baltimore and formerly of Annapolis, died Tuesday, April 28, 1998, at St. Agnes Hospital after a brief illness.
Born Aug. 29, 1927, in Martinsville, Va., she was the daughter of the late William H. and Cora Stone Clark. She was the wife of John E. Sanner, who died in 1973.
Surviving are sons Dale Sanner of Greenbelt, John Sanner of Stevensville, Charles Sanner of Jessup, David Sanner of Glen Burnie, Denver Sanner of Gibson Island, the Rev. Sherman Davis of King George, Va.; nine brothers and sisters; ten grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
She was predeceased by daughter Wanda Lee.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. today at Eckhardt Funeral Chapel, 11605 Reisterstown Road, Owings Mills, with the Rev. Sherman Davis, the Rev. Bill Wilson and the Rev. Virgil Wilson officiating. Interment will be in Druid Ridge Cemetery, Pikesville.
Catherine A. Smith

Catherine Amelia Smith, 68, formerly of Locust House, Westminster, died Tuesday, April 28, 1998, at her sister's home after an extended illness.
Born Aug. 23, 1929, in Carroll County, she was the daughter of the late John Edward Starr Coffman and Mary Emma Johnson Smith. She was the wife of Richard Wayne Smith, who died in 1995.
She attended Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses, Westminster. She was formerly employed at Frederick Community College and Carroll Lutheran Village, Westminster.
Surviving are stepdaughter Tambra J. Smith of near Union Bridge; sister Shirley Hill of New Windsor; and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by 14 sisters and brothers.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at Hartzler Funeral Home, 310 Church St., New Windsor, with Elder Gerry Etzler officiating. Inurnment will take place at a later date in Mount Joy Cemetery, Uniontown.

Rosa Bauer
91, of Westminster
Rosa Bauer, 91, of Westminster, died Tuesday morning, April 28, 1998, at her daughter's home in Westminster.
Born May 28, 1906, in Thalberg, Germany, she was the daughter of Franz and Mary Husteiner Neumueller. She was the wife of the late Karl Alois Bauer.
She was a member of St. John Catholic Church in Westminster and enjoyed spending time with her family and friends. She was the last surviving member of a family of 16 children.
Surviving are daughter Antonia ``Betty'' Conklin of Westminster; two grandchildren; two great grandchildren; and three great-great grandchildren.
Prayer services will be held 8 p.m. Wednesday at the Myers Funeral Home, 91 Willis Street, Westminster, with the Rev. Monsignor Arthur F. Valenzano officiating. Graveside services will be held 11 a.m. Friday at Mt. St. Benedict Cemetery, Bloomfield, Conn., with the Rev. Christopher Ford officiating.
The family will receive friends from 7 p.m. until the time of the service Wednesday at the funeral home.

88, of Taneytown
Virginia E. Burke, 88, of Taneytown, died Tuesday, April 28, at Mariner Health of Forest Hill.
Born Aug. 14, 1909 in Warfieldsburg, she was the daughter of the late Charles and Mary Anne Richter Rickell. She was the wife of James F. Burke, who died in 1959.
For many years, she worked as a sales clerk at Buamgardner's Bakery in Taneytown. She was a member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church, Taneytown, a charter member of the Taneytown fire company ladies' auxiliary and a member of the Taneytown Senior Citizens.
Surviving are daughter and son-in-law Patricia and Dale Sloop of Belair; sister Frances Easton of Westminster; two grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
A funeral liturgy will be held at 10 a.m. Friday at St. Joseph's Church, Frederick Street, Taneytown, with the Rev. Martin Feild officiating. Interment will be in Grace UCC Cemetery, Taneytown.

Kimberly Ann Trotten Combs, 34, of Woodbine, died Monday, April 27, 1998, at her sisters home in Buckeystown.
Born Jan. 4, 1964, in Bethesda, she was the daughter of Joseph and Carol Brigham Cantler. She was the wife of Lynn N. Combs.
She was a member of Cornerstone Alliance Church, Winfield. She was a 1982 graduate of Frederick High School.
Surviving, in addition to her husband, are parents Joseph and Carol Brigham Cantler of Keedysville; son Eric A. Combs of Woodbine; daughter Lindsey M. Combs of Woodbine; sisters Wendy Lewis of Buckeystown and Lisa Tritipoe of Frederick; grandparents; father- and mother-in-law; brothers; sisters; numerous aunts, uncles and cousins; and devoted friend Ann Johnson of Woodbine.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at the Donald B. Thompson Funeral Home, 31 E. Main St., Middletown with the Rev. Thomas George officiating. Interment will be in the Resthaven Memorial Gardens.

Fred A. Day, 73, of Woodbine, died Tuesday, April 28, 1998, at his home.
Born June 3, 1924, in Frederick County, he was the son of the late William Earl Day and Pearlie M. Wright Day. He was the husband of Louise Mullinix Day.
He was a builder for his own company, Fred Day Builders and a member of Morgan Chapel United Methodist Church in Woodbine.
Surviving, in addition to his wife, are brothers Roy Day Sr. of Westminster, and Leo Day of Libertytown.
He was predeceased by brothers William Ray Day and Francis Day.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday at Burrier-Queen Funeral Directors, 1212 W. Old Liberty Road, Winfield, with the Rev. Leander Anske Jr., of Morgan Chapel United Methodist Church in Woodbine, officiating. Interment will be in Morgan Chapel United Methodist Church Cemetery, Woodbine.

Shirley L. Holcomb, 49, of Westminster, formerly of Wainville, W.Va., died Sunday, April 26, 1998, at Carroll County General Hospital, after a brief illness.
Born May 16, 1948, in Wainville, W.Va., she was the daughter of the late Woodrow and Elsie Marie Snider Holcomb.
She was of the United Methodist faith, a homemaker, and nurse's aide for Curry Home Care in Westminster.
Surviving, are son Jason Curry of Westminster; daughter Sabrina Curry of Westminster; brothers David and Hurshel Holcomb, both of Gowen, W.Va.; sisters Opal Stem and Norma Holcomb, both of Cowen, W.Va., Ada Short of Central, S.C., Marie Ross of Gainesville, Fla., Verma Holcomb and Erma Holcomb, both of Camden on Gauley, W.Va., and Beatrice Mollohan of Upper Grade, W.Va.; one grandchild, eight nieces and nephews, and devoted friends Arthur Curry, Mary Asher, June Wagner, and Audrey Dailey, all of Westminster.
She was predeceased by brothers Erney, Ernest, and Buster Holcomb; and sister Barbara Holcomb.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday at the Halo United Methodist Church near Cowen, W.Va. with the Rev. Okey Wayne officiating Interment will be in the Holcomb Cemetery, Lost Run, Cowen, W.Va.
