Angela M. Johns
Longtime Dundalk homemaker Angela M. Johns died Sept. 30 [2004] at age 81.
The former Angela Mary Berardinelli was born and raised in Baltimore's Little Italy. She lived in Dundalk for the past 40 years.
Surviving are four children, Frank Johns of Roland Park and Pete Johns, Judith Shaver and Philip Johns of Graceland Park, sisters Mary Romano and Antoinette Prescimone, eight grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.
Services were held Oct. 4 at Duda-Ruck Funeral Home. Interment followed at Dulaney Valley Memorial Gardens.

Richard A. Phelps
Richard Allen Phelps, 80, a Dundalk resident for 46 years, died Sept. 20 [2004] at Johns Hopkins Bayview Medical Center.
Mr. Phelps, who was born in Appomattox, Va., was a U.S. Air Force veteran, a retired Bethlehem Steel master welder and a member of Dundalk Moose Lodge 1228.
He is survived by his wife, Rosemary (nee DeLuca), sons Donald and John Beckman, brother William Phelps, nine grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
Services were held Sept. 23 at Connelly Funeral Home. Interment followed at Sacred Heart of Jesus Cemetery.

Naomi Riegel
Naomi Riegel, a North Point Road homemaker for more than 40 years, died Sept. 18 [2004] at Bonnie Blink Masonic Home in Cockeysville, where she resided for the past 15 months. She was 81.
The former Naomi Neimiller grew up in Highlandtown.
She belonged to Henry Brecht Chapter Order of the Eastern Star and the Cedarettes, the women's organization of Tall Cedars. She was active with the Dundalk Assembly Order of the Rainbow for Girls in the 1960s and 1970s.
She was a member of First Lutheran Church of Gray Manor.
She liked making ceramics at Ateaze Senior Center, where she was a member. She also enjoyed crocheting and making crafts.
Mrs. Riegel is survived by daughters Joyce Deems of Colora, Md., and Sharon Peterson of Dundalk, brother William Neimiller of Ocean City, Md., two grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. Her husband of 61 years, Charles Riegel, died in June 2003.
Services were conducted by the Rev. William Wallace of First Lutheran Church of Gray Manor on Sept. 21 at Duda-Ruck Funeral Home. Interment followed at Oak Lawn Cemetery.

Jacob C. Darr
Services will be held Thursday, Dec. 2, for Jacob C. "Jake" Darr, 72, a resident of Delvale Avenue since 1955. He had a heart attack Nov. 29 [2004] while deer hunting in Greene County, Pa.
The service begins at noon at Connelly Funeral Home, 7110 Sollers Point Road. Interment will follow at Sacred Heart of Jesus Cemetery.
Visitation at the funeral home was scheduled for Wednesday, Dec. 1, from 3 to 5 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m.
Born March 29, 1932, in Greensboro, Pa., Mr. Darr worked at Bethlehem Steel before he was drafted into the U.S. Army during the Korean War. After his military discharge, he returned to Bethlehem Steel, retiring in 1984 with 36 years of service.
As an avid hunter, he frequently hunted in Pennsylvania with family and friends.
Mr. Darr is survived by his wife of 51 years, Gloria A. (nee Baumer), daughter JoAnn Wolf, sons David and William Darr, three sisters, one brother and 10 grandchildren. His oldest son, Robert C. Darr, died April 28.

Rosa J. Hudson
Former Jones Creek resident Rosa J. Hudson of Bel Air died Nov. 22 [2004] at Mariner Health of Forest Hill. She was 83.
Born in Baltimore, the former Rosa J. Ahern and her family moved to Jones Creek when she was 7 years ago. A longtime member of Jones Creek Christian Church and its Christian Women's Fellowship, she also served as deaconess and sang in the choir.
After moving to Bel Air about six years ago, she worshipped at Oak Grove Baptist Church.
Predeceased by her husband, Albert R. Hudson, she is survived by sons William F. Hudson of Bel Air and Harold K. Hudson of Joppa, daughter Elaine R. Miller of Edgewood, sister Irene Thune of Shenandoah, Va., eight grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren. She also was predeceased by son Albert R. Hudson Jr. and brother Frank Ahern.
Services on Nov. 24 at McComas Funeral Home in Abingdon were conducted by the Rev. Kenneth E. Tipton of Oak Grove Baptist Church and the Rev. Robert L. Peters of Jones Creek Christian Church. Interment followed at Bel Air Memorial Gardens.

William G. Meyers
Holborn Road resident George Meyers, 80, died Oct. 5 [2004] at Loch Raven VA Medical Center.
Born and raised in Baltimore, he served in the U.S. Army Air Corps during World War II.
He retired after a long career with Kennecott Copper Refining Co.
Mr. Meyers belonged to Our Lady of Hope Church and Bethlehem Council Knights of Columbus.
He enjoyed building model airplanes and shared his lifelong passion for airplanes with his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. In the late 1980s, he and his wife toured the western United States.
In addition to his wife of 57 years, Eileen (nee Memmel), he is survived by daughter Karen E. Titus of Dundalk, sisters Lorena Sherwood and Connie Hube, four grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
He was predeceased by son W. Dale Meyers, daughter Kathleen A. Keller and grandson William D. Meyers.
A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated Oct. 8 at Our Lady of Hope Church. Interment with military honors followed at Parkwood Cemetery.

Ada Mae Wagner
A memorial service will be held Sunday, Dec. 12, for Ada Mae Wagner, 75, a Dundalk resident for more than 50 years. She died of lung cancer Nov. 18 [2004] at Stella Maris Hospice in Timonium.
The service begins 2 p.m. at Watersedge Baptist Church, 3483 Liberty Parkway.
Named for her paternal grandmother, the former Ada Mae Hamilton was born in Corrienne, Va.
A former Dundalk High School cafeteria worker, she was a member of Watersedge Baptist Church.
Surviving are three children, Linda, Paul and Darrell Wagner, brother Edgar Hamilton, two grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. Her husband, Ernest Wagner, died 20 years ago. She also was predeceased by three brothers and three sisters.

Phyllis M. Blanton
Former West Inverness and Gray Haven homemaker Phyllis M. Blanton died of heart failure Nov. 25 [2004] at Union Memorial Hospital. She was 75 and lived in Rosedale for the past 10 years.
Born in Del Rio, Tenn., the former Phyllis Marie Goodnough married Oscar J. Blanton 57 years ago. She was a member of Dundalk Church of the Nazarene, where a memorial service was held Nov. 30.
In addition to her husband, she is survived by children William L. Blanton, Pamela M. Smith, Patricia G. Mitzel, Peggi A. Herritt and Lorrie J. Shannon, sister Mary Opal Gemmill, 16 grandchildren and three great-grandsons. She was predeceased by brothers Hugh, Ernest, Don, William and Charles Goodnough and sister Edna Walker.

Leona H. Bremer
Edgemere resident Leona Helen Bremer (nee Louden), 84, died Nov. 24 [2004] at Johns Hopkins Bayview Geriatric Center, where she had been convalescing after surgery.
Years ago, Mrs. Bremer worked as a secretary for the Baltimore Oriole Canning Co., the A.H. Bull Steamship Co. and Baltimore's Department of Transit and Traffic. As an employee of the Baltimore Chamber of Commerce, she worked with the Maryland Port Authority as a reservations secretary for Maryland Cruises.
A former member of the National Secretaries Association, she served for a time as editor of a monthly magazine published by its Monumental Chapter. She also was a member and former secretary of the ladies auxiliary of an American Legion post in Rosedale.
Predeceased by her husband, George Lewis Bremer, she is survived by son Roy P. Bremer, daughters Darlene M. Bieber, Karen E. Hagan and Barbara J. Hendley, 13 grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren and many nieces, nephews and other family members. She also was predeceased by her oldest son, Charles R.G. Bremer.
Services were held Nov. 27 at Duda-Ruck Funeral Home. Interment followed at Oak Lawn Cemetery.

Pauline L. Denkines
Pauline L. Denkines, a Sollers Point Road resident for more than 40 years, died Nov. 19 [2004] at age 87.
A Tennessee native, the former Pauline Brady married James T. Denkines Sr. on Dec. 26, 1940.
Years ago, she worked part-time at the snack bar in Cook's department store on Wise Avenue. She babysat all her grandchildren while their parents worked and made a quilt for all her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
She will be missed by daughters Margaret Madison of Reedville, Va., and Alice Farmer of Essex, sons James T. Denkines Jr. of Joppatowne and Charles S. Avans of Mobile, Ala., brother Harley Brady of Glen Burnie, sister Willie Mae Bailey of Ooltewah, Tenn., six grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. Her husband died in March 2004. A son, Ray L. Avans, died in May 2002.
Services were held Nov. 23 at Connelly Funeral Home. Interment followed at Holly Hill Memorial Gardens.

Shelda Sue Deranger
Shelda Sue Derenger of Columbia, 53, a former West Inverness resident, died at home Nov. 9 [2004] after a long battle with cancer.
Born in Winchester, Va., the former Shelda Sue Miller grew up in Romney, W.Va. She graduated from Hampshire High School, where she had been active in band and student council. She won several awards for her singing.
After graduating from West Virginia University in 1972 with a degree in sociology and social work, she became a social worker for West Virginia, working with battered children and alcoholics. She also counseled alcoholics and drug abusers as a Maryland social worker and later became a federal alcohol and drug education specialist at Fort Meade.
Her career also included positions as a personnel management specialist at the U.S. Census Bureau and the Department of Commerce.
Married since 1984 to Dundalk native Andrew Deranger, a Patapsco High School graduate, she became a full-time mother and homemaker after their only child, Katelyn Elisabeth, was born. She was active in the Stevens Forest Co-Op Nursery and the children's programs at Glen Mar United Methodist Church, where she was a member, during their daughter's early years.
Mrs. Deranger worked as a reading assistant for the Howard County Board of Education from 1991 to 1995, the year she was diagnosed with breast cancer. The first patient of the Claudia Mayer Cancer Support Center at Howard County General Hospital, she represented the Glen Mar Cancer Support Group in 2002 when she addressed about 700 doctors and clergy on spirituality and illness.
Friends and family will remember her as an outgoing, vivacious spirit whose focus in life was her daughter and family. She also liked making crafts and reading.
In addition to her husband and daughter, she is survived by mother Norma Miller of Romney, brothers Mickay Miller of San Francisco, Richard Miller of Vienna, Va., and Lynn Miller of Martinsburg, W.Va., sister Becky Jo Fuller of Romney and many nieces and nephews.
A family memorial ceremony is planned for the Christmas holidays.
Donations may be made in her name to the Columbia United Christian Church, 5885 Robert Oliver Place, Columbia, MD 21045.

Patricia A. Gardner
Former Edgemere resident Patricia Ann Gardner of Bowleys Quarters died following surgery Nov. 25 [2004] at Franklin Square Hospital. She was 66 years old.
The former Patricia Ann Marsh was born in Johns-town, Pa. She and her family moved to North Point Road in Edgemere in the early 1940s. She graduated from Sparrows Point High School in 1956 and married Sparrows Point native William J. Gardner in 1958.
A homemaker all her married life, Mrs. Gardner was devoted to her children and grandchildren. She loved being surrounded by her family and especially enjoyed entertaining them on holidays and birthdays.
In addition to her husband of almost 47 years, she is survived by son William M. Gardner of Chase, daughter Brenda Perdue of Edgewood, brother Richard Marsh, sister Tressa Goodman, three grandchildren and many other family members.
Services were held Nov. 29 at Duda-Ruck Funeral Home. Interment followed at Gardens of Faith Cemetery.

Carville E. Grimm
Sparrows Point native Carville E. "Grimmy" Grimm of Edgemere died at his daughter's home Nov. 29 [2004] at age 88.
Born in Sparrows Point, Mr. Grimm attended Sparrows Point High School and served in the U.S. Army Infantry during World War II. A lifetime member of an American Legion post in Chincoteague, Va., he had also belonged to Wells-McComas VFW Post 2678.
After marrying Dorothy Kirschner in 1947, he and his wife settled in Edgemere.
Retired from Ironworkers Union Local 16 since 1979, he loved socializing with family and friends, woodburning, fishing, making crafts and spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
He and his wife moved to Chincoteague in 1983, then returned to Edgemere in 2002 to live with their daughter and son-in-law, Mary and James Webb.
Predeceased in 2001 by his wife, he is survived by three other daughters, Geraldine Rice of Edgemere, Margaret "Jeanie" Jarrett of Carney and Yvonne Mollo of Long Island, N.Y., sons Robert Grimm of Hanover, Pa., and Kenneth Grimm of Lansdowne, sister Catherine Keyes of Perry Hall, 10 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
Services were private.
Memorial contributions may be made to Community Hospice of Maryland, 9940-K Franklin Square Drive, Baltimore, MD 21236.

Gertrude C. Kamasinski
Gertrude C. Kamasinki, 80, a longtime Graceland Park homemaker, died of heart failure Nov. 23 [2004] at Johns Hopkins Bayview Medical Center. Mrs. Kamasinski resided at St. Luke's Place in Edgemere for the past three months.
Born in East Baltimore on April 17, 1924, the former Gertrude C. Czyrcya grew up in a family of 13 children and attended Holy Rosary School in Highlandtown.
After she moved to Graceland Park more than 50 years ago, she became a member of Sacred Heart of Mary Church. Years ago, she also belonged to the church's Blessed Virgin Mary Sodality.
Predeceased by her husband, Marion J. Kamasin-ski, she is survived by son John A. Kamasinski of White Marsh, daughter Christine L. Brouse of Colora, Md., three grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
Monsignor Richard E. Parks celebrated a Mass of Christian burial Nov. 26 at Sacred Heart of Mary Church. Interment followed at Sacred Heart of Mary Cemetery.

Leslie R. Kerner
Former Shipping Place resident Leslie Regina Kerner (nee Bader) of Middle River, 60, died Nov. 22 [2004] at Franklin Square Hospital.
She worked at the Peabody Court Hotel for the past 15 years.
She enjoyed camping, watching NASCAR races and taking day trips with her husband.
She is survived by her husband of 15 years, Calvin Kerner, three children, John and Suzanne Beaumont and Michelle Phillips, brother Francis Bader Jr. and three grandchildren.
Services were held Nov. 26 at Connelly Funeral Home.
