Anna Mae Leader
Anna Mae Leader, a Logan Village resident since 1978, died at Johns Hopkins Bayview Medical Center on Nov. 30 [2004], two days before her 68th birthday.
She worked at General Motors for 34 years, retiring 16 years ago.
Ms. Leader was a longtime member of St. Rita Church.
She loved vacationing in Las Vegas, gardening and shopping. She was a fan of the Baltimore Orioles.
She is survived by three sisters, Caroline Zuk, Charlotte Wolfe and Rose Daniels, many nephews and nieces and other family members.
A Catholic prayer service was held Dec. 4 at Duda-Ruck Funeral Home. Interment followed at St. Stanislaus Cemetery.
Veronica Loizos
Edgemere resident Veronica Loizos, 85, died of pneumonia Nov. 16 [2004] at Genesis-Heritage Elder Care.
Born July 31, 1919, in Steubenville, Ohio, the former Veronica Melnick and her family moved to Baltimore in 1940. After the death of her husband in 1960, she resided in Dundalk and Edgemere with her daughter and son-in-law, Irene and George Mavronis, and their children, Stephen, Angelo, Despina and Nicole Mavronis. She considered caring for her grandchildren and another daughter, Rosella Clark of North Point Village, as important priorities.
An animal lover, she enjoyed feeding the wild ducks and other animals that gathered outside every morning.
Mrs. Loizos, who had dementia, never completely recovered from a stroke five and a half years ago, according to her family,.
In addition to her two daughters, she is survived by sister Rose Fields of Linwood, Mich., six grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. She also was predeceased by sisters Mary Fisher and Anna Melnick and brothers Andrew, George, John and Stephen Melnick.
Services on Nov. 19 at St. Demetrios Greek Orthodox Church were followed by interment in the church cemetery.

Antoinette M. Mackereth
A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated Thursday, Dec. 9, for Millers Island resident Antoinette M. Mackereth (nee Svoboda), 63, who died at home Dec. 6 [2004] of cancer.
The Mass begins 10 a.m. at St. Luke's Catholic Church, 7517 North Point Road in Edgemere. Interment will follow at Oak Lawn Cemetery.
Visitation at Duda-Ruck Funeral Home, 7922 Wise Ave., was scheduled for Wednesday, Dec. 8, from 3 to 5 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m.
Born in Baltimore, she and her husband lived in Dundalk before moving to Millers Island 15 years ago. She retired as a secreatary for Martin-Marietta Aerospace Corp.
A longtime member of Our Lady of Hope Church, she most recently attended Mass at St. Luke's Catholic Church.
Mrs. Mackereth enjoyed shopping, spending time with her grandchildren, playing bingo on Friday nights with her daughter and son-in-law and attending luncheons with her lifelong girlfriends. She will be remembered by her many friends at Edgemere Senior Center and in CCBC Dundalk's water aerobics class.
She will be missed by her husband of 43 years, Richard G. Mackereth, daughter Karen Taylor-Pfeifer, sons Brian and Ronald Mackereth, sister Cecelia Sentz, four grandchildren and many other family members.
Cora Dorothy Schriver
Cora Dorothy Schriver (nee Machen), who lived in Sparrows Point and Edgemere for 86 years, died of cancer at Gilchrist Hospice in Towson on Nov. 28 [2004], 10 days after her 89th birthday.
Born in 1915, Mrs. Schriver lived in Sparrows Point and worked as a cashier at the Lyceum Theatre until 1940, when she married Harry J. Schriver. In 1941, they moved to Delmar Avenue in Edgemere, where she lived until three years ago when she moved to her son's home in Towson.
A homemaker, she enjoyed bowling in several local leagues, serving as a parent aide at Edgemere Elementary School and participating as a member of Crown Rebekah Lodge 12. The lifetime Sparrows Point High School Alumni Association member also enjoyed traveling to Bermuda, Las Vegas, Canada and the Carib-bean. Among her many interests were embroidery, crewelwork, old movies and big band music.
Predeceased by her husband of 31 years, she is survived by son Harry C. Schriver. She was predeceased by brothers Wiley, Wilber and Francis Machen and sister Myrna Eder.
Mrs. Shriver was buried Dec. 1 at Oak Lawn Cemetery.
Estelle Wisniewski
Estelle Wisniewski (nee Bogoslawski), 85, a longtime Millers Island resident, died at home Nov. 22 [2004].
An expert tailor and seamstress, she had worked for several sewing companies and, along with her husband, ran a grocery store in Baltimore. In the 1940s, they moved to Millers Island and opened a grocery store in the basement of their home.
She enjoyed cooking, especially for family holiday gatherings, and painting and wallpapering her home. She also was a talented ceramic artist.
Mrs. Wisniewski lived on Hinton Avenue with her son and daughter-in-law, Richard and Dorothy Wisniewski, and was a longtime member of St. Luke's Catholic Church.
She also is survived by three other children, Bernadette W. Santa Cruz of Woodbridge, Va., Christina M. Wisniewski of Baltimore and Benedict M. Wisniewski of Ashland, Va., seven brothers and sisters, six grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
Her husband of 52 years, Benedict M. Wisniewski, died in 1995. A daughter, Patricia Gensicki, died in 1979.
Services were held Nov. 26 at Dabrowski-Chojnacki Funeral Home. Interment followed at Holy Rosary Cemetery.
William G. Crilley
Former Inverness resident William G. Crilley, 53, died Nov. 22 [2004] at his home in Ashville, N.Y.
A 1970 graduate of Patapsco High School, he resided in Florida until he and the former Cindy Brown married in 1983 and settled in Ashville.
A devoted husband and father, he was proud of his six grandchildren.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by mother Muriel Crilley, daughters Sarafina Elliott, Heather Crilley and Mary Renshaw, stepdaughter Billy Jo Lank, brother James P. Crilley of Fallston, Md., and sisters Theresa Forbes, Mary Lating-Cannaday and Kathy Funk, all of Dundalk. He was predeceased by father Arthur Crilley and stepdaughter Gailene Baker.
The Rev. Robert Stolinski of St. James Catholic Church conducted services Nov. 27 in Jamestown, N.Y. He was buried Nov. 29 at Pine Grove Cemetery in Russell, Pa.
Gaynell D. Drum
Former Dundalk resident Gaynell D. Drum of Pasadena died Dec. 8 [2004] of natural causes at age 78.
She lived in North Carolina until she and her husband, Jacob C. "Joe" Drum, and their daughter moved to Dundalk in the early 1950s.
She worked at Western Electric Co. until she retired on disability in 1974.
She and her husband moved to Pasadena in 1992 to be close to their daughter and grandsons. After becoming a widow, she lived in Pasadena since 1995 with her daughter and son-in-law, Judy and Dan Nelson, and grandsons Lee and Christopher Nelson.
She devoted her life to taking care of her family and was especially fond of spending time with her great-grandson, Zachary.
She also is survived by brothers Fred and Fay Drum and sister Doris Litten, all of North Carolina.
Services were held Dec. 11 at Connelly Funeral Home. Interment followed at Holly Hill Memorial Gardens.

Ruth Mekolon
Lifelong Dundalk resident Ruth Mekolon (nee Bradowski), 88, died at home Nov. 29 [2004].
Mrs. Mekolon grew up on Holabird Avenue, then lived her entire married life on Stengel Avenue. An avid gardener, her yard was featured years ago in The Eagle.
As a member of Christ Lutheran Church and its Ladies Aid Society, she enjoyed visiting the residents of the Augsburg Lutheran Home. She also enjoyed playing bingo with her niece, Gerry Liptrap.
Years ago, she worked as a banquet waitress at the Hilton-Omni Hotel in Baltimore.
Surviving are daughters Doris Phillips, Janice Gibson and Joyce DeLuca, son Jacob Mekolon Jr., sisters Dolores Rose, Naomi DeLong and Millie Radakovic, nine grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren and three great-greatgrandchildren. She also leaves behind dear friends and caregivers Amy Lukanich and Joann Bradshaw.
She was predeceased by husband Jacob Mekolon Sr., brothers John, Gus and Lou Brodowski, sisters Minnie Ketchum and Helen Snyder and granddaughter Nikki Gibson.
Services on Dec. 4 at Connelly Funeral Home were followed by interment at Christ Lutheran Cemetery.

Vernon J. O'Connell
Services will be held Saturday, Dec. 18, for longtime Elton Avenue resident Vernon James O'Connell, 53, who died after a long illness Dec. 11 [2004] at Stella Maris Hospice.
The service begins 2 p.m. at Bradley-Ashton-Matthews Funeral Home, 2134 Willow Spring Road. Visitation at the funeral home is scheduled for noon to 2 p.m.
Mr. O'Connell attended Patapsco High School and later earned a GED. He had been a forklift operator for Titan Steel Co. for the past eight years.
He loved all music, from rock 'n' roll to country to classical.
Surviving are his mother, Lucille Black, brothers George O'Connell and Stanley Black and nephews George and Dane O'Connell, all of West Virginia. He also leaves behind his companion of 25 years, Mary Blosser, her children, Steve, Amy and Wayne Blosser, and her four grandchildren.
He was predeceased by father George O'Connell Sr., stepfather John Black and brother John Black Jr.
Stanley M. Sufczynski Sr.
Jones Creek resident Stanley M. Sufczynski Sr., 71, died suddenly at home Nov. 28 [2004] of natural causes. He lived in Jones Creek for 31 years and was a former resident of Sparrows Point.
Mr. Sufczynski served in the guided missile division of the U.S. Army during the Korean War. Retired from the Sparrows Point Police Department, he later worked for Federal Armored Express and Johns Hopkins Bayview Medical Center.
A former member of Patapsco Masonic Lodge 183, he enjoyed fleamarketing and the outdoors.
He is survived by his wife Janice (nee Smith), with whom he would have celebrated 50 years of marriage on Dec. 17, son Stanley M. Sufczynski Jr. of Dundalk, daughters Pamela Meszaros of Texas, Mary Weber of Dundalk, Karen Hudson of Edgemere and Susan DiCarlo of Bel Air, brother Ted Sufczynski of North Point Village and 12 grandchildren.
Joseph P. Akers Sr.
Decorated World War II veteran Joseph Price Akers Sr., 81, formerly of North Point Road, died Dec. 3 [2004] of multiple organ failure at Johns Hopkins Bayview Medical Center.
As a member of the U.S. Navy, Mr. Akers received the Pacific Theater Ribbon, the American Theater Ribbon and the Victory Medal.
A graduate of Sparrows Point High School, he worked for 45 years at Bethlehem Steel, where he was a class A carpenter.
Mr. Akers had many hobbies, including sailing, speedboating, swimming, crabbing, driving, watching old movies and reading.
In addition to his wife of 57 years, Alice Akers (nee Kirby), he is survived by daughters Patricia Akers and Leona Isaacs, son Joseph Akers, five grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
The Rev. Buddy Howard of Grace Baptist of Sunset Beach conducted services on Dec. 5 at the Gregory J. Gonce Funeral Home in Pasadena.
Blanche L. Cottrill
Longtime Dundalk resident Blanche L. Cottrill, 87, died Nov. 30 [2004] at her son's home in Darlington, Md.
Born Oct. 5, 1917, in Freeland, Pa., the former Blanche Wilhelm met and married Harry N. Cottrill Sr. in 1939. They raised their family in Sparrows Point, then lived in North Point Village for 21 years. Widowed in 1980, she lived in Old Dundalk with her son, Marion F. Cottrill, for the past 13 years.
Mrs. Cottrill, a life member of Battle Grove Democratic Club and Crown Rebekah Lodge 12, was a league bowler at Pinland for more than 30 years.
As a member of a prayer group at Sacred Heart of Mary Church, she packed lunches and crocheted winter hats for homeless people. She also crocheted lap throws for nursing home residents and shared her home many times with those in need.
She enjoyed listening to country music, dancing, entertaining and spending time with her family and friends.
She is survived by two other sons, Harry N. Cottrill of Darlington and Alvin E. Cottrill of Dundalk, sister Goldie Dixon, 15 grandchildren, 28 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren. Two grandsons, Steven A. and Ronald A. Cottrill, predeceased her.
The Rev. Ted Marsh of Dundalk United Metho-dist Church conducted services Dec. 4 at Connelly Funeral Home. Interment followed at Gardens of Faith Cemetery.
Gloria J. Hamilton
Longpoint Road resident Gloria Jean Hamilton (nee Bowman), 74, died Dec. 1 [2004] of heart failure at Johns Hopkins Bayview Medical Center.
Ms. Hamilton was born and raised in Welch, W.Va., before moving to Dundalk in May 1963.
In addition to spending time with her family, she enjoyed playing bingo, horse races and slots. Daughter Karen Hamilton said of her mother, "She had more life in her at 74 than a lot of people have at 20."
Ms. Hamilton was a member of Christ the King Catholic Church and Saint Rita Catholic Church.
In addition to her husband of 52 years, Edgar, survivors include sons Edward, Pete and James Ray Hamilton, daughters Karen Hamilton and Mary Hockenbrock, sisters Betty Hagerman and Margaret Bowman, eight grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
Services were conducted by the Rev. Charles Jones on Dec. 3 at Connelly Funeral Home. Interment followed at Holly Hill Memorial Gardens in Middle River.
Noreen M. Johnson
Briarwood Estates resident Noreen M. Johnson, 48, died of metastasized melanoma Dec. 14 [2004] at Gilchrist Center for Hospice Care.
The former Noreen Mary Sullivan was born Feb. 23, 1956, the seventh child of eight, to James T. and Margaret Sullivan. She graduated from Dundalk High School and spent most of her working career with the Maryland State Department of Parole and Probation's Drinking Driver Monitor Program in district and circuit courts throughout the state. Mrs. Johnson enjoyed her job, the people with whom she worked and especially the clients whose success meant so much to her. She rarely met anyone she was not willing to reach out to and she was always glad to welcome someone new into her close circle of friends.
She was a parishioner of her much-loved North Point Baptist Church, where a Dec. 18 service was held in her memory. The service was conducted by the Rev. Rowland Scott, pastor of North Point Baptist Church, and the Rev. Rick Plantholtt, pastor of Calvary Baptist Church of Edgewood, where she and her husband had worshipped for the past two years in an effort to bring comfort to her recently widowed father-in-law, James H. Johnson.
She will be missed by her husband of 18 years, James L. Johnson, a Bethlehem Steel retiree, daughter Jamie Lynn Stehli, brothers James W., John L., Christopher F., George P. and Matthew R. Sullivan, sisters Margaret A. Heilman and Jeanne E. Bachman and several nieces and nephews.
