Adelaide Thompson
Adelaide Anna Thompson, 98, of Chester, died Nov. 4, 2002 at Corsica Hills Nursing Home in Centreville.
Born in Chester on June 4, 1904, Mrs. Thompson was the daughter of the late Joseph and Adelaide Timms Coleman. She graduated from the former Stevensville High School in 1921.
She taught school in Grasonville before her marriage to E. Earl Thompson, who is now deceased. She worked as a concessionaire on the former Matapeake Ferry System. After the building of the Chesapeake Bay Bridge, she worked for the state Income Tax Division, retiring in 1976.
She was a member of the Kent Island United Methodist Church and the AARP.
Survivors include two sons, K. Wesley Thompson of Chester and Robert N. Thompson of Queenstown; one sister, Delma Buschman of Chester; 15 grandchildren; and many great-grandchildren.
She was the mother of the late Pearl M. Tyler and the sister of the late Ella Lewis, Edna Harris and Wesley, Ellison, Apsley, Purnell, Paul, Myrtle and Lydia Coleman.
Visitation will be from 3 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. tomorrow at Fellows, Helfenbein and Newnam Funeral Home, 106 Shamrock Road, Chester, where the funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Thursday. Burial will follow in Stevensville Cemetery in Stevensville.
Elisabeth Wolfe
Elisabeth B. Wolfe, 86, of Annapolis and Upcountry in Maui, Hawaii, died Oct. 31, 2002 at Maui Memorial Hospital.
Mrs. Wolfe was born Oct. 25, 1916, in Huntington, W.Va., the daughter of Ray Maxwell Bobbitt and Beatrice Wrenn Bobbitt. She graduated in 1937 from Vassar College.
She worked as a psychiatric social worker at the District of Columbia Psychiatric Institute.
Mrs. Wolfe was a founding member of the Unitarian Church of Arlington, Va. She loved her family and enjoyed reading, gardening, listening to music and her bridge and book clubs.
The widow of Air Force Col. Thomas W. Wolfe, she is survived by her brother, Dr. Jack Bobbitt of Newport News, Va.; three children, Dr. S. Anthony Wolfe of Miami, Fla., Timothy B. Wolfe of Haiku, Maui, and Ellen W. Brewerton of Olinda, Maui; 11 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
Private memorial services were held. Arrangements were by Ballard Family Mortuary in Kahului, Maui.
Yvonne Benac
Yvonne E. Benac, 89, of Annapolis died of respiratory failure Oct. 30, 2002 at Anne Arundel Medical Center.
Ms. Benac was born in Lisbon, Conn., and spent all but the last six years of her life in Connecticut.
She attended Connecticut College for Women until falling ill with tuberculosis. In 1940, she began a 39-year career in city hall in Norwich, Conn. She served the last 18 years as city and town clerk, a position to which she was unanimously reappointed by the City Council every two years.
Her family said she was legendary in this role for her uncanny attention to detail, her ability to bring calm where there had been combat in City Council meetings and her unbounded willingness to help people. Her legacy includes the restoration of old, yellowed records and deeds dating back to 1659.
In retirement, Ms. Benac volunteered at Backus Hospital and was an active member of the Connecticut Organization of City and Town clerks until she moved to Maryland.
She loved reading and sewing. Her deft hand yielded beautiful and useful work, ranging from colorful quilts to creative doll clothes and specially designed garments for the physically challenged tailored for the many family and friends that passed through her care.
Ms. Benac was the sister of the late Theodore J. Benac. She is survived by two nephews, a niece and cousins.
Visitation will be 7 to 9 p.m. Friday at Godere Funeral Home in Taftville, Conn. A funeral Mass will be offered at 10 a.m. Saturday in Ss. Peter and Paul Church, Norwich, followed by burial in the family plot in Sacred Heart Cemetery, Taftville.

Elfriede Hoppmann
Elfriede W. Hoppmann, 87, a longtime resident of Scotia, N.Y., died Nov. 1, 2002 at Stonehedge Nursing Home in Chittenango, N.Y.
Born in Germany on Jan. 23, 1915, Mrs. Hoppman came to the United States in 1929. She was trained as a child's nurse at St. Margaret's Hospital in Albany, N.Y.
She was a lifelong comunicant of Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church of Schenectady where she taught Sunday school and belonged to the Mary Circle in Scotia. She also volunteered for the American Red Cross.
Her husband, William F. Hoppmann, died in 1990.
Surviving are one daughter, Marie Margosian of Fayetteville, N.Y.; one son, William Hoppmann of Callaway in St. Mary's County and formerly of Crofton; one brother, Rev. William Wild of New Britain, Conn.; and five grandchildren.
Funeral services and burial will be private. Arrangements are by Eaton-Tubbs-Schepp Funeral Home in Fayetteville.

Forrest Noel
Forrest Martin Noel, 82, a resident of Severna Park for 15 years, died of heart failure Nov. 2, 2002 at University Hospital in Baltimore after a brief illness.
Mr. Noel was born May 19, 1920, in Johnstown, Pa., and served in the Navy from 1944 to 1946 in World War II. He was a stationary engineer and refrigeration mechanic for Westinghouse before retiring.
He belonged to Elks and Moose lodges and enjoyed working with his hands, listening to big band music, photography, traveling and airplanes.
Surviving are his wife of 62 years, Elva Noel; one son, Forrest R. Noel of Severn; one daughter, Mary Lou Rosencranz of Glen Burnie; one sister, Myra Caplin of Johnstown; three grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
Visitation is from 3 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. tomorrow and Wednesday at Singleton Funeral Home, 1 Second Ave. SW, Glen Burnie, where services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday. Burial will be in Cedar Hill Cemetery in Brooklyn Park.

Alexander Chisholm
Alexander John Chisholm, 73, of Severna Park, died Nov. 1, 2001 at Anne Arundel Medical Center. The cause of death is not available.
Mr. Chisholm was born July 2, 1928 in Jamaica, New York. He received his bachelor's degree from Adelphi College in 1952 and his master's in business from New York University in 1960.
He retired in 1984 as Vice President of Regulatory Affairs for Western Union. After retirement, he founded A.J. Chisholm and Associates, a successful consulting firm in Washington, D.C.
He was a devoted husband, loving father and an avid golfer.
He is survived by his wife of 42 years, Joan, of Severna Park; three sons, John Alexander Chisholm of Annapolis, Kenneth Paul Chisholm and Brian James Chisholm, both of Los Angeles, Calif.; one daughter, Gail Allison Chisholm of Annapolis; one sister, Doris Harper of Ridgewood, N.J.; and one grandchild.
Visitation will be today from 4 to 6 p.m. at the Taylor Funeral Home, 147 Duke Of Gloucester St., Annapolis. Funeral services will be tomorrow at 1 p.m. at St. Anne's Episcopal Church, 199 Duke of Gloucester, Annapolis, followed by burial at Lakemont Memorial Gardens, 900 W. Central Avenue, Davidsonville.

JoAnn DeMarino
JoAnn O'Leary DeMarino, 46, of Arnold, and a 22 year resident of the Annapolis area, died Oct. 30, 2001 at home, after a year long battle with ovarian cancer.
Mrs. DeMarino was born on Oct. 25, 1955 in Stoneham, Mass. She was in the restaurant and food service industries for her entire career. Since 1995, she was a partner with her brother at O'Leary Catering.
She loved music, dance, animals, reading, travel, the beach and spending time with family and her six nieces and nephews.
She is preceeded in death by her father, Thomas J. O'Leary, who died in 1984.
She is survived by her husband, Ronald E. DeMarino of Arnold; one son Ronnie; two stepchildren, Jessica and Josh DeMarino of Annapolis; her mother and stepfather, Helen and Richard Hale, of Severna Park; one sister, Karen Norris of Prescott Valley, Ariz.; two brothers, Thomas J. O'Leary of Annapolis and Steven R. O'Leary of Richmond, Va.
A memorial service will be held Wednesday at 1 p.m. in the U.S. Naval Academy Chapel, Annapolis. Because of the alert status of the Naval Academy, persons wishing to attend the service will need to park at the Navy-Marine Corps Memorial Stadium and take the shuttle buses into the Naval Academy. These buses are not on a schedule, so please allow enough time for the bus to get into the Naval Academy and to the service.

Shamika Doy
Shamika Terrelle Doy, 22, of Severn, died Oct. 29, 2001 at North Arundel Hospital in Glen Burnie. The cause of death was not immediately available.
Ms. Doy was born on May 5, 1979 in Baltimore the daughter of Leslie and Juan Doy. She attended Meade Senior High School.
She was a member of Asbury United Methodist Church in Jessup and was active in the choir.
She is survived by three daughters, Alayah and Egypt Hawkins of Severn and Zaire Wyche of Severn; her parents, Leslie Doy of Severn and Juan Doy of Clarksville, Tenn.; her grandparents, Alvin Martin of Adelphi and Yvonne Brown of Columbia; her great-grandfather, George Johnson of Annapolis; two brothers, Juan Doy, Jr. and Kai Johnson of Severn and two sisters, Sophia Vance and Stephanie Johnson of Severn.
A Christian wake will be held from 11 a.m. to noon. Tuesday followed by the funeral service at noon at the Asbury United Methodist Church, on Route 32 in Jessup. Burial will be at Annapolis Memorial Gardens.
Arrangements were made by Reese and Sons Mortuary.
Virginia Roberts
Virginia Caroline Roberts, 71, of Odenton, died Nov. 2, 2001 at the Crofton Convalescent Center after a brief illness. The cause of death is not available. Mrs. Roberts lived in Odenton for 54 years.
She was born Nov. 10, 1929 in College Park the daughter of Louise and Edward Groves. She graduated from Greenbelt High School and was a homemaker and a member of the Methodist Faith.
She enjoyed reading, singing, cooking and bird-watching.
She is survived by her husband of 54 years, Carl L. Roberts of Odenton; two sons, Bruce Roberts of Crofton and Ron Roberts of Odenton; one daughter, Sharon Allen of College Park; and three grandsons.
Visitation will be today from 1 to 3 p.m. at the Hardesty Funeral Home, 851 Annapolis Road, Gambrills, where funeral services will follow at 3 p.m. Burial will be private.

John Topper
John Charles Topper, 56, a longtime resident of Edgewater, died at home on Nov. 2, 2001, of heart failure, after a three-year illness.
Mr. Topper was born Oct. 1, 1945 in Baltimore and was a graduate of Sparrows Point High School.
He was an Army veteran and received numerous medals including the National Defense Service Medal, the Vietnam Service Medal, the Vietnam Campaign Medal, the combat in infantryman badge, two overseas service bars and a sharpshooter award.
He was a member of the Moose Lodge in Edgemere and enjoyed flea markets and collecting.
He is survived by his wife Emma, also of Edgewater; two daughters, Renee Smerdon and Shelly Cooper both of Edgewater; two brothers, Louis C. Topper of Baltimore and Thomas V. Topper of Edgemere; and four grandchildren.
Graveside services will be held Tuesday at 11:30 a.m. at the Crownsville Veterans Cemetery, 1122 Sunrise Beach Road, Crownsville, where burial will follow.
Arrangements are by George P. Kalas Funeral Home, 2973 Solomons Island Road, Edgewater.

Coy Truelove
Coy Maylon Truelove, 55, a longtime resident of Edgewater, died Oct. 30, 2001, at the University of Maryland Hospital in Baltimore, of complications due to a kidney transplant.
Mr. Truelove was born Oct. 21, 1946 in Harnett County, N.C. and attended Annapolis Senior High School.
He enjoyed photography and camping.
He is survived by his wife of 17 years, Helen, also of Edgewater; three sons, Glen Truelove, Bobbie McDonaldson and Danny McDonaldson, all of Annapolis; three daughters, Tammy Dwyer of Baltimore, Barbara Jones of Gambrills and Cathy Sloane of Bowie; and nine grandchildren.
Visitation will be held tomorrow and Tuesday from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. at the Taylor Funeral Home, 147 Duke of Gloucester Street, Annapolis. Funeral services will be held at the Taylor Funeral Home on Wednesday at 11 a.m. Burial will be private.
Alice Collins
Alice Veronica "Ronnie" Edwards Collins, 59, of Severn and formerly of Millersville, died Oct. 28, 2002 at Knollwood Manor, Genesis ElderCare Network, in Millersville after a lengthy illness.
Mrs. Collins was born Oct. 24, 1942, in Baltimore and attended the former Wiley H. Bates High School. She worked at the Naval Academy and Anne Arundel Community College.
Her interests included shopping, football, baseball and social gatherings.
On Oct. 24, 1961, she married John Henry Collins who died in January 1992. She was the mother of the late Gordon A. Collins.
Surviving are three sons, John H. Collins Jr. of Columbia, Tony A. Collins of Jessup and Jeffrey L. Collins of Annapolis; two daughters, Jeannette Collins of Severn and Dana M. Collins of Annapolis; four brothers, James J., Richard, Joseph and Ricardo Edwards, all of Annapolis; 31 grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren; and her grandmother, Sommerfield Smith of Washington, D.C.
Visitation will begin at 9 a.m. Monday at Holy Temple Cathedral, 708 Bestgate Road, with a Christian wake at 10:30 a.m. and funeral service at 11 a.m. Burial will be private. Arrangements are by Reese and Sons Mortuary.
Gerald Turner Jr.
Gerald Brooks "Jerry" Turner Jr., 40, of Odenton and formerly of Baltimore, died Oct. 31, 2002 in Severn.
Born March 9, 1962, in Baltimore, Mr. Turner attended Arundel High School in Gambrills. He was a fencing contractor and sold used cars.
He enjoyed restoring antique cars and being with family and friends.
In 1986 he married Donna Turner, who died in 1994.
Surviving are one daughter, Shannon Turner; his mother, Barbara Turner; and one sister, Tami Dasovich, all of Odenton. Also surviving are his fiancee, Thelma Thompson of Gambrills, and one stepson, Thomas Buddenbohn of Severn. He was the son of the late Gerald Turner Sr.
Visitation is from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. tomorrow and Monday at Hardesty Funeral Home, 851 Annapolis Road, Gambrills, where services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday. Burial will be in Nichols-Bethel United Methodist Church Cemetery.
Rosalie Fooks
Rosalie Helen Fooks, 63, died Oct. 30, 2002 of cancer at her home in Grasonville.
Born Nov. 21, 1938, in Baltimore, Mrs. Fooks was the daughter of the late Robert and Evelyn Parker. She was a graduate of Catonsville High School and went on to complete several courses in the secretarial field.
She was married to James Robert Dafnis of Grasonville from 1958 to 1971. The couple had two daughters, Deborah Dafnis Townsend of Stevensville and Melissa D. Dafnis of Grasonville.
After her divorce, she married John Dale Fooks of Grasonville. In 1977 the family moved from Woodlawn in Baltimore County to their current residence.
She was employed at Providence Hospital in the personnel department from 1979 to 1980 and from 1980 to 1989 as administrative assistant to the vice president of nursing. She left Providence Hospital to work at Chesterfield Restaurant as manager and moved on to freelance her skills as an independent contractor.
Since 1989 she worked as a consultant to Payne Dynafoils Inc., a naval architectural firm in Severna Park.
She was a passionate advocate of animal welfare and dedicated many hours of volunteer service on their behalf. For much of her life her home was a sanctuary and recuperating facility for many strays and injured animals.
Since 1998 she served as administrative support and later as secretary and treasurer of the Animal Resources Foundation, a nonprofit animal welfare organization in Chester.
In addition to her husband and children, she is survived by her stepson, Troy Fooks of Crisfield; her stepdaughter, Charlene Fooks of Stevensville; two grandsons; and one step-grandson.
A celebration of her life will take place at 2 p.m. tomorrow at Fellows, Helfenbein and Newnam Funeral Home, 106 Shamrock Road, Chester.
