Arthur Edward Perdue Sr.
SEAFORD -- Arthur Edward "Pop" Perdue Sr., 68, died Saturday, Nov. 16, 2002 at Nanticoke Memorial Hospital of complications from an aneurysm.
Born in Berlin, he was a son of the late Elwood and Dorothy Donaway Perdue.
A retired salesman for Sisco Foods of Pocomoke City, Mr. Perdue was helping his son operate Scott's Car Care in Seaford at the time of his death.
Active in the Nanticoke Little League for 25 years, he coached two teams to the World Series. He was a former member of the Maryland Army National Guard and had previously worked for Covey Food in Seaford.
In Seaford, Mr. Perdue was a member of American Legion Nanticoke Post 6 and was a past governor of the Loyal Order of Moose Lodge 1728.
He is survived by his wife, June Kraft Perdue; three sons, Dale P. and D. Scott Perdue and Arthur E. Perdue Jr.; a daughter, Alison P. Tingle; three brothers, William Perdue of Greenwood, Preston Perdue of El Monte, Calif. and John Wayne Perdue; four sisters, Ruth Rementer of Georgetown and Helen Phillips, Mildred Chalmers and Doris Mitchell and 10 grandchildren.
He was preceded in death earlier this year by two sisters, Betty Hammond and Clara Joseph, and a brother, James Perdue.
A funeral service will be held Wednesday at 2 p.m. at Watson-Yates Funeral Home in Seaford, where friends may call Tuesday night from 7 to 9. The Rev. David B. Humphrey will officiate. Interment will be in Odd Fellows Cemetery.

Ella Mae Cole
HURLOCK -- Ella Mae Cole, 91, died Saturday, Nov. 16, 2002 at Dorchester General Hospital.
She is survived by three daughters, Doris Payne of Felton, Del., Margaret Webster of East New Market and Shirley Forester of Hurlock; nine grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; eight great-great-grandchildren; two brothers, Harry Harding Jr. of Elliott Island and Roy Harding of Winston-Salem, N.C., and several nieces and nephews.
A funeral service will be held Tuesday at 2 p.m. at Zeller Funeral Home in East New Market, where friends may call one hour before. The Rev. Ruth Tull will officiate. Interment will follow in Unity Washington Cemetery near Hurlock.
JaBronté Walters
SALISBURY -- JaBronté Walters, 8, of Salisbury, died Saturday, Nov. 30, 2002, when he was involved in a multiple-car collision in Lewiston, N.C.
Born in Salisbury, he was the son of Roy Walters of Salisbury and the late Naomi Melvin Walters, who was also involved in the accident.
He was a third-grade Honor Roll student at Glen Avenue Elementary School in Salisbury.
Besides his father, he is survived by one brother, JaBril Walters of Salisbury; maternal grandparents, Lovie Jane Melvin of Parmele, N.C., and Herman Melvin of Long Island, N.Y.; paternal grandparents, Milton and Jessie Reid of Salisbury; a maternal great-grandmother, Lovie Parker of Parmele; six aunts; six uncles; several great-aunts and great-uncles; and a host of cousins.
A funeral service will be held Saturday at 1 p.m. at United Faith Church of Deliverance in Salisbury. Interment will be in Spring-hill Memory Gardens near Hebron.
A trust fund has been established for his surviving brother, Jabril Walters, at the Bank of Delmarva, 921 Eastern Shore Drive, Salisbury, Md. 21801.
Services are entrusted to the compassionate care of Jolley Memorial Chapel in Salisbury.
Peggy Mayers
PRINCESS ANNE -- Peggy Mayers, 63, of Princess Anne, died Tuesday, Dec. 3, 2002, at Peninsula Regional Medical Center in Salisbury.
Born in Dames Quarter, she was a daughter of the late Vernon Babbs and Estella Jones Babbs.
She is survived by her devoted friend of 28 years, Herbert Lewis of Princess Anne; two sons, Luther and Lydell Mayers of Salisbury; two daughters, Sharon and Lavern Mayers of Baltimore; 10 grandchildren and one great-grandchild; a sister, Rose Virgil, of Columbia, Md.; and a brother, Kevin Babbs, of Baltimore.
A funeral service will be held Friday at 1 p.m. at Macedonia United Methodist Church in Dames Quarter, near Princess Anne. The Rev. Emmanuel Johnson will officiate. Friends may call tonight from 7 to 9 at Anthony E. Ward Funeral Home on Hampden Avenue in Princess Anne. Interment will be in the church cemetery.
George Elton Phillips
SALISBURY -- George Elton Phillips, 93, of Salisbury, died Monday, Dec. 2, 2002, at Salisbury Center: Genesis ElderCare in Salisbury.
Born in Snow Hill, he was a son of the late Durand and Betsy Davis Phillips.
Mr. Phillips was a past member of the Powellville Volunteer Fire Department. He was a retired truck driver who drove until he was 77 years old and was an engineer on the menhaden fishing boats in Lewes. He also enjoyed farming and working on the boat. His hobbies were working and talking with the fellows.
He is survived by his wife of 35 years, Norma E. Phillips of Salisbury; and a niece.
He was preceded in death by three brothers and two sisters.
A funeral service will be held Friday at 11 a.m. at Bounds Funeral Home on East Main Street in Salisbury, where friends may call one hour prior to the service. The Rev. Steve Wagner will officiate. Interment will follow in Hebron Cemetery.
Alberta D. Kellner
CRISFIELD -- Alberta D. Kellner, 81, of Seminole, Fla., and formerly of Crisfield, died Tuesday, Dec. 3, 2002, at Bons Secours Maria Manor in St. Petersburg, Fla.
Born in Crisfield on Oct. 28, 1921, she was the daughter of the late Isaac H. and Grace L. Sterling Dorsey. She was a retired schoolteacher for the Somerset County Board of Education. She was a member of Asbury United Methodist Church in Crisfield and Order of Eastern Star Batavia New York Chapter 267. She had been making her home in Seminole for the past 13 years.
She is survived by her husband, Joseph Kellner of Seminole; two brothers-in-law, Frederick Kellner of St. Petersburg and Jack Kellner of Apollo Beach, Fla.; one sister-in-law, Edna Mae Dorsey of Crisfield; one aunt, Ruby Dorsey of Westover; and eight cousins, Ben Dorsey of Pasadena, Md., Lelia Culp of Crisfield, Mary Ellen Cornell of Brown City, Mich., Anna Lynch of Bloomfield, Mich., Alice Bossman of Brown City, Sharon Yong of East Lansing, Mich., Sally Dennis of Owosso, Mich., and Rosemary Toby of Canton, Mich.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brother, Paul W. Dorsey, who died in 1988.
Funeral services will be held Saturday at 11 a.m. at Asbury United Methodist Church in Crisfield, where friends may call one hour prior to the service. The Rev. Tom Blakelock will officiate. Interment will follow in Asbury United Methodist Church Cemetery.

Lester "Sam" Butler
SALISBURY -- Lester "Sam" Butler, 64, of Salisbury, died Saturday, Nov. 30, 2002, at Peninsula Regional Medical Center in Salisbury.
Born in South Carolina, he was the son of the late Thomas and Mary Butler.
He was a member of Weeping Mary Full Gospel Baptist Church on Shavox Road in Salisbury. He worked several years for Carl J. Williams Construction Co. and J. Roland Dashiell Co.
He is survived by his wife, Finetta "Mickey" Butler of Salisbury; two daughters, Mekia Butler of Salisbury and Andrea Waters of Navarre, Fla.; one son, Glen Williams of Salisbury; five grandchildren; one sister, Virginia Weeks of South Carolina; one son-in-law, Apostle Gerald Water of Navarre; and several nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.
A funeral service will be held Saturday at 10 a.m. at Weeping Mary Full Gospel Baptist Church in Salisbury. The Rev. Dr. Henry Brown will officiate. Interment will be in Springhill Memory Gardens near Hebron. Friends may call Friday from 7 to 9 p.m. at Stewart Funeral Home on West Road and Olivia Street in Salisbury and Saturday at the church one hour prior to the service.
Gregory Martin Davis
EASTON -- Gregory Martin Davis, 53, of Easton, and formerly of Salisbury, died Monday, Dec. 2, 2002, at Memorial Hospital at Easton.
Born in Salisbury, he was the son of Wilson E. Davis and stepmother Meta S. Davis of Salisbury and the late Irene Elizabeth Davis.
Mr. Davis was living in Easton in Chesapeake Group Homes Inc. He participated in the Maryland Special Olympics and received a gold medal for running. He loved children and animals.
In addition to his father and stepmother, he is survived by a brother and his wife, Wilson L. and Shirley Davis of Salisbury; a nephew and his wife, Eric and Lisa Davis, and their children, Brad and Wyatt Davis; a niece, Melanie Meeks, and her children, Kaitlind, Lindsay and Charley Meeks; and his special caretaker, Angie Pinder of Easton.
A private graveside service will be held. The Rev. Samuel Horner will officiate.

Pauline C. Nigra
SALISBURY -- Pauline C. Ni-gra, formerly Pauline C. Callaway, 77, of Salisbury, died Monday, Dec. 2, 2002, at Peninsula Regional Medical Center in Salisbury.
Born in Winston-Salem, N.C., she was the daughter of the late Noah and Ella Payne Church.
She is survived by two sons, Gary F. Callaway and his wife, Georgiana, of Longwood, Fla., and Robert H. Callaway and his wife, Yuko Yoshikawa, of Tokyo; three grandchildren, Evan, Christian and Mia Callaway; two stepgrandchildren, Taichi Yoshikawa and Sydney Ellis; a brother, Gwyne Church; two nephews, Alfred Church and Gwyne Allen Church; and three nieces; Joyce Hearn, Shirley Dukes and Debbie Brittingham.
A graveside funeral service will be held Friday at 2:30 p.m. at Wicomico Memorial Park in Salisbury. Friends may call from 1 to 2 p.m. at Bounds Funeral Home on East Main Street in Salisbury.
Joan S. Keffer
BISHOPVILLE -- Joan S. Keffer, 70, of Bishopville, died Monday, Dec. 2, 2002, at Atlantic General Hospital in Berlin.
Born in Baltimore, she was a daughter of the late Joseph J. Swi-derski and Agnes C. Dimler. She was preceded in death by her be-loved husband, Ralph P. Keffer Jr.
Survivors include a daughter, Deborah Luckett of Bishopville; two sons, Michael W. Boening of Willards and Anthony J. Boening of Catonsville, Md.; nine grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
Mrs. Keffer was a chief operator with AT&T Telephone Co. She was an active member of American Legion Ladies Auxiliary Post 166 and VFW Post 8296 of Ocean City, and a member of AT&T Maryland Pioneers.
Friends may call at Burbage Funeral Home in Berlin today from 5 to 7 p.m. and Friday from 10 to 11 a.m. A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. The Rev. John Klevence will officiate. Interment will be in Sunset Memorial Park.

Lester L. "Les" Wright
BERLIN -- Lester L. "Les" Wright, 81, of Burtonsville, died peacefully at his home, surrounded by his family, Friday, Dec. 27, 2002.
Born in Burtonsville Oct. 2, 1921, he was the youngest and last surviving child of the late Walter G. and Anna Duvall Wright.
After graduating from Montgomery Blair High school in 1939, he was to serve three years in combat with the Army during World War II. He fought valiantly for his country during the Battle of the Bulge. His heroics ended during a battle for the Elbe River in Germany, where he single-handedly neutralized a machine gun nest. His bravery earned him several commendations including a Purple Heart.
Returning from the war, Les resumed a promising career in the retail furniture business which he began years earlier by designing and building a complete bedroom while still in high school. He worked for Malcolm Scates Furniture in Washington, D.C., and quickly moved up the ladder, eventually serving the company as vice president.
In 1960 Les opened his own business, which would eventually become known as Wright's Furniture. His business later flourished and would add three additional stores in Montgomery County. He sold the business in 1983 and retired to Ocean City and later Berlin. Keeping busy and enjoying life, Les worked part-time for English Realty. He played golf, enjoyed boating and was the beloved patriarch of his ever-growing family. He also worked with his son Doug, helping him start his own business.
Les is survived by his beloved wife of 61 years, Freda Wright, of Berlin; his children, Judy Durham of Ocean Pines, and her late husband, Leo Durham, Douglas Wright and his wife, Carroll, of Berlin, Freda Sorce and her husband, Michael Sorce, of Great Falls, Va., Robin Custead and her husband, William Custead, of Silver Spring, Md., and Joyce Wright of Bowie, Md., who was the wife of his late son, Lester L. "Lee" Wright II, who died in 1997. His grandchildren include Douglas Durham, Beth Durham, Kelly Wright, Marty Wright, Courtney Murray, Ben Custead, Bart Sorce, Nick Custead and Drew Custead. His great-grandchildren are Zach Durham, Sara Durham, Kelson Wright, Sydney Wright, Ethan Durham and Ryley Wright.
Friends and family may call today from 2 to 5 p.m. at Burbage Funeral Home, 108 William St., Berlin. A memorial service will be held in two weeks at Liberty Grove Methodist Church in Burtonsville, followed by interment in Union Cemetery in Burtonsville.

Andre' Lamont Brown
PASADENA, Md. -- Andre' Lamont Brown, 37, of Pasadena, and formerly of Fruitland, died Wednesday, Jan. 1, 2003, in Baltimore.
Born in Salisbury, he was a son of David and Mabel Brown Purnell.
He re-ceived his formal education in the public schools of Wicomico and Anne Arundel counties. He graduated from Chesapeake Senior High School in Pasadena. He attended Anne Arundel Community College in Arnold, Md., and Baltimore City Community College in Baltimore.
He was a U.S. Army veteran and was recently assigned as a military policeman to the 1176th Transportation Brigade in Glen Burnie, Md. He was employed as a correctional officer/sergeant with the state of Maryland for 12 years.
He is survived by his wife, Wilhelminia; three daughters, Leondra, Alexis and Niccole; two sons, Kyle and Andre; one brother, Troy Purnell of Pasadena; a grandmother, Miriam Purnell of Snow Hill; and other relatives and friends.
A funeral service will be held Monday at 1 p.m. at Mount Calvary United Methodist Church, 205 N. Division St. in Fruitland. The Rev. Candy Miles will officiate. Friends may call Sunday from 3 to 5 p.m. at Stewart Funeral Home on West Road and Olivia Street in Salisbury and Monday at the church one hour prior to the service. Interment will be in Mount Calvary United Methodist Church Cemetery.
William B. Hassler
BERLIN -- William B. Hassler, 76, died at his home on Friday, Jan. 3, 2003.
He was born in Pennsylvania, a son of the late Paul and Martha Hassler.
His survivors include his wife, Maybelle E. Hassler; three sons, Michael L. Hassler of Ephrata, Pa., James W. Hassler of Bozeman, Mont., and John A. Hassler of Denver, Pa.; five grandchildren; a brother, Paul Hassler Jr. of Stevens, Pa.; and a sister, Helen Witmer of Ephrata.
He retired as environmental manager of Hoffman Foundry in Sinking Spring, Pa. He and Mrs. Hassler moved here from Denver 11 years ago. He was a member of the Church of God and had driven Ocean City's Boardwalk Train for 10 years.
Friends may call Monday from 7 to 9 p.m. at Ullrich Funeral Home on Route 50. A funeral service will be held at the funeral home on Tuesday at 11 a.m. Officiating will be the Rev. Ron Soulsman.
