Barbara Ellen Thompson
SHARPTOWN -- Barbara Ellen Thompson, 69, of Sharptown went to be with the Lord Friday, April 2, 2004, at Peninsula Regional Medical Center in Salisbury due to pulmonary complications.
Born June 13, 1934, she was the wife of Willy Monroe Thompson of Sharptown. She was preceded in death by her parents, Flora and Robert Lee Sirk.
Former owner of Barb's Video Store, she and her husband served the Sharptown community for more than 15 years. She enjoyed needlepoint, gardening, hummingbirds and crafts.
In addition to her husband, she is survived by her children and their families, her son, Gary Thompson and his wife, Ginny, of Plano, Texas; son Michael Thompson and his wife, Belinda, of Sharptown; son Russell Thompson and his wife, Sally, of Hampton, Va.; daughter Sharon Mejia and her husband, Ted, of Cincinnati; and daughter Sandy Hoffman and her husband, Kenny, of Laurel.
She is also survived by her grandchildren, Aaron Thompson of Savannah, Ga., Haley and Andy Thompson of Plano, Taylor and Shelbie Thompson of Sharptown, Kevin Thompson of Laurel, Chris and Jason Mejia of Cincinnati, Courtney and Christa Bennett of Laurel; and great-granddaughter Madison Leigh. She is also survived by numerous siblings and their spouses, Stanley Sirk of Haymarket, Va., Danny Sirk of Nokesville, Va., Shirley and Richard "Dick" Jenkins of Huntsville, Ohio, Peggy Risevlyan of Bryans Road, Md., Richard Sirk of Nokesville, Cathy and Larry Wyman of Manassas, Va., and Norman Sirk of Warrenton, Va.
Friends and family may pay respects at a viewing to be held Monday from 7 to 9 p.m. at Asbury United Methodist Church in Sharptown, where a celebration of Barbara's life will be held Tuesday at 1 p.m. Friends may also call one hour before the service. The Revs. Linda Mariner and John Nalley will officiate. Interment will follow in Sharptown Firemen's Cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be made in honor of Barbara to the American Lung Association, 209 E. Market St., Salisbury, Md. 21801.

Evelyn M. Hitchens
SALISBURY -- Evelyn M. Hitchens, 91, of Salisbury died Wednesday, March 31, 2004, at Wuesthoff Medical Center in Melbourne, Fla.
Born in Salisbury, she was the daughter of the late Lue and Della Bowen Mills. She was preceded in death by her husband, Floyd Hitchens.
Mrs. Hitchens was an avid cat lover and enjoyed fishing and crabbing.
She is survived by a daughter, Iris Donoway of Delmar; grandchildren Judy Shores of Alabama, Linda Elliott of Mardela Springs, Howard Glen Donoway of Salisbury, Sandra Donoway of Delmar, Donna Smith of Delmar and Janice Martin of Kissimmee, Fla.; 10 great-grandchildren; five great-great-grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. She was preceded in death by a grandson, Bryan Donoway; and a brother, John Mills.
A funeral service will be held Tuesday at 2 p.m. at Holloway Funeral Home with visitation one hour prior to the service. The Rev. Bob Stephens will officiate. Interment will be in Parsons Cemetery in Salisbury.

Brady Llewellyn Shafer
SALISBURY -- Dr. Brady Llewellyn Shafer, 64, of Salisbury died Thursday, April 1, 2004, at Wi-comico Nursing Home.
Born in Bidwell, Ohio, he was the son of the late Charles William Shafer Sr. and Lola Mae Glassburn Shafer.
Dr. Shafer held the following degrees: bachelor of theology from Tri-State Baptist College in Evansville, Ind.; bachelor of arts in English from University of Evansville in Evansville; master of arts in math education from Louisiana State University in Baton Rouge, La.; master of science in math from Ohio State University in Columbus, Ohio; and doctor of math education, Ohio State University. Dr. Shafer was a math teacher, retired from UMES. He was a member of Immanuel Baptist Church for 22 years, and a member of the choir. He was a former member of Salisbury Choral Society.
He is survived by his wife of 45 years, Martha Lee Shafer, and their children, Calvin Theodore Shafer, Anna Jeanette Hazel and her husband, Morgan, Sarah Lynnette Burton and her husband, Buck, and Barbara Mae Todd, all of Salisbury, and Philip Austin Shafer and his wife, Julie, of Raleigh, N.C.; their grandchildren, Ashley, Courtney and Jessica Burton, Natalie, Meredith, Gwyneth, Alyssa and Carys Hazel, Rachel and Bethany Todd, Austin, Clayton and Elizabeth Shafer; two brothers, Robert Shafer of Annapolis and Charles William Shafer Jr. of Nitro, W.Va.; and many nieces and nephews.
Besides his parents, Dr. Shafer was also preceded in death by his sister, Margaret Thomas.
A funeral service will be held Monday at 2 p.m. at Immanuel Baptist Church. Friends and family may call today from 7 to 9 p.m. at Holloway Funeral Home and at the church one hour prior to the service Monday. The Rev. Woodrow Crouse will officiate. Interment will be in Parsons Cemetery in Salisbury.

Bobby D. Adams
BERLIN -- Bobby D. Adams, 70, of Berlin died Friday, April 2, 2004, at Peninsula Regional Medical Center in Salisbury.
He was born in Crisfield to the late Annie and Gordon I. Adams Sr.
He had been a regional manager with Orkin. He was a member of Berlin First Baptist Church, where he was a deacon, a licensed lay minister and held other various jobs within the church.
He is survived by his wife, Charlene M. Adams of Berlin; a son and his wife, Charles G. and Andrea Adams of Bishopville; a brother, Gordon I. Adams Jr. of Falls Church, Va.; a sister and her husband, Linda K. and Steve Kazmarek of Baltimore; and two grandchildren, Lauren Mumford and Erica Adams.
Friends may call Monday evening from 6 to 8 at Hastings Funeral Home in Selbyville and also at the church one hour before the service. A funeral service will be held Tuesday at 1 p.m. at Berlin First Baptist Church on Williams Street in Berlin. The Revs. Barry McCready and Harry Weir will officiate. Interment will be in Evergreen Cemetery in Berlin.

Frank George Craven
DELMAR -- Frank George Craven, 60, of Delmar died Friday, April 2, 2004, at his home after a short battle with cancer.
Born in Philadelphia, he was the son of Myrtle Craven of Delmar and the late George Craven.
He was a welder with Lewis Steel in Salisbury for many years.
He is survived by his wife of 39 years, Mary Ann Mason Craven; a daughter, Caroline Ann; a son, Morris Craven, and his wife, Karen; grandchildren Erica Pugh Craven, Kelsey Craven, John Mason Craven and Hannah Craven; a sister, Marcia Elliott, and her husband, Percy, all of Delmar; a sister-in-law, Patricia Smith, and her husband, Michael, of Salisbury; three nieces; two nephews; six great-nieces and four great-nephews; and several relatives from Pennsylvania.
He was an avid hunter and fisherman and loved to spend time outdoors. He was an active member of All Saints' Episcopal Church in Delmar for 35 years, where he served as senior warden, junior warden, vestryman, licensed lay reader and sang in the church choir. In a continuing effort to serve others he left his corneas for transplantation.
He will be greatly missed by his family, with whom he spent most of his leisure time, and especially by his grandchildren, who lovingly called him "Gramps."
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday at All Saints' Episcopal Church, 10th and Grove streets in Delmar, where friends and family may meet with the family one hour prior to the services. The Rev. Custer Ruley will officiate. Interment will be in First Baptist Cemetery in Pocomoke City.

Vaughn Benjamin Horner Sr.
SALISBURY -- Vaughn Benjamin Horner Sr., 83, formerly of Mount Vernon, died Friday, April 2, 2004, at Peninsula Regional Medical Center in Salisbury.
Born in Mount Vernon on Oct. 4, 1920, he was a son of the late John Horner and Sadie Elizabeth Timmons Horner. He was also preceded in death by a brother, Boyd Horner; and sisters Virginia Bloodswoorth Farlow and Hazel Ashby.
He is survived by his wife of almost 51 years, Jerldean Horner; a daughter, Denise Ann Horner of Hopewell, Va.; a son, Vaughn Benjamin Horner Jr., and daughter-in-law, Carol Dashiell Horner, of Salisbury.
He retired after 38 years working for Delmarva Power. He was proud to have served as a World War II combat medic and was part of the invasion of Normandy. He was a Purple Heart recipient, and a member of the VFW and the American Legion. Mr. Horner was an avid collector of many things. He was very active in the Somerset and Wicomico counties coin clubs. Playing until he was 76 years old, he was an enthusiastic softball player on the Shore.
Mr. Horner will be remembered as a loving husband, devoted father and a friend to many. He will be missed by all of us; he was a valued friend to everyone he knew.
A funeral service will be held Tuesday at 2 p.m. at Hinman Funeral Home in Princess Anne, where friends may call one hour prior to the service. The Revs. Dale Vroman and Darlene Dixon will officiate.
Interment will be held in Asbury United Methodist Cemetery in Mount Vernon.

Margaret E. Fassett
SELBYVILLE -- Margaret E. Fassett, 91, of Selbyville died Saturday, April 3, 2004, at Green Valley Terrace in Millsboro.
Born in Stockton, she was the daughter of the late Harry and Ethel Collins Marshall. Her husband, Frederick James Fassett, died in 1973.
She was a member of Zoar United Methodist Church in Selbyville, a member of the church's United Methodist Women and served on the trustee board.
She is survived by a cousin, who is like a brother, Edward Marshall of Salisbury; a niece, Janice Collins of Stockton; a nephew, Jerome Collins of Snow Hill; and several cousins.
A funeral service will be held Saturday at 11 a.m. at Zoar United Methodist Church on Roxana Road in Selbyville, where friends may call one hour prior to the service. The Rev. Dr. Lehman Tomlin will officiate. Interment will be in Zoar Golden Acres Cemetery in Bishopville.

Norman R. Scarborough
LAUREL -- Norman R. "Bob" Scarborough, 85, of Laurel died Saturday, April 3, 2004, at Anchorage Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Salisbury.
Born in Georgia, he was a son of the late General Lee and Annie Pearl Scoggins Scarborough.
He worked for DuPont for 28 years before retiring.
He is survived by a son, Bobby L. Scarborough of Bellmawr, N.J.; a daughter, Margaret A. Truitt of Bishopville; two brothers, Leroy Scarborough of Laurel and Paul Scarborough of Salisbury; three sisters, Roxie Cooper of Whaleyville, Reba Roberts of Thomaston, Ga., and Ruby Livengood of Kannapolis, N.C.; four grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
A funeral service will be held Wednesday at 11 a.m. at Hastings Funeral Home in Selbyville, where friends may call one hour prior to the service. The Rev. Phil Thomas will officiate. Interment will be in New Hope Cemetery in Willards.

Mildred Cornelia Davis
SALISBURY -- Mildred Cornelia Davis, 91, of Salisbury died Sunday, April 4, 2004, at Salisbury Center: Genesis ElderCare.
Born in Powellville, she was a daughter of the late Elmer G. and Martha Jane Townsend Shockley. She was preceded in death in 1985 by her husband, George William Davis.
Mrs. Davis had a large circle of friends and was devoted to her family. She had a strong Christian faith and loved serving her Lord and Savior. She was an avid animal lover.
She is survived by a son, Earl Joseph Davis of Snow Hill; a daughter, Phyllis A. Ford of Pittsville; a sister, Velma Lewis of Snow Hill; a brother, William Shockley of Powellville; seven grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; and several cousins, nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by a son, Maurice R. Davis; a brother, Vincent Shockley, and a sister, Viola Rayne; and a step-sister, Christine Cathell.
A funeral service will be held Wednesday at noon at Holloway Funeral Home in Salisbury. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service. The Rev. Dean Perdue will officiate. Interment will be in Riverside Cemetery near Libertytown.

Thomas Anthony Sepe
WARWICK, R.I. -- Thomas Anthony Sepe, 92, of Warwick died Sunday, April 4, 2004, at Kent Memorial Hospital in Warwick.
Born in Cranston, R.I., he was the son of the late Gaetano and Angela Rose Melone Sepe. His wife, Olive Burns Sepe, preceded him in death in 1991.
Mr. Sepe was an all-state athlete at Cranston High School in Rhode Island, where he received a scholarship to the University of Notre Dame, lettering in two sports. Professionally, he worked in the finance industry, employed by the Public Finance Co. for 35 years, during which he managed offices across New England. He was married for 55 years to Olive Burns of South Bend, Ind. They moved from New England to Salisbury after his retirement, until he returned back to Rhode Island three years ago. He was an avid golfer, painter and was a member of the Peninsulaires Barbershop Chorus for 10 years. He was also a member of the University of Notre Dame Monagram Club.
He is survived by a son, Thomas D. Sepe of Warwick; two grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; a sister, Virginia Ruggerio of Cranston; and eight nieces and nephews.
A graveside service will be held Saturday at 11 a.m. at Wicomico Memorial Park in Salisbury. Visitation will be from 10 to 10:45 a.m. at Holloway Funeral Home. The Rev. Michael B. Roark will officiate.

Cynthia Rose Reeley
SNOW HILL -- Cynthia Rose Reeley passed away Sunday, April 4, 2004.
Cynthia was an activist with animal rights.
She leaves behind her husband, Matthew Reeley; stepparents, Anna and Joe Tipton; sister, Amy Bartin; brother, Steve Tipton; in-laws, Mr. and Mrs. Reeley; and a niece and a host of nephews.
A memorial service will be held Thursday at noon at Go-Getters in Newark Station, where Cynthia was an active member for several years.
