VIRGINIA E. ROTH
Virginia Elizabeth Roth, 85, Horse Shoe Run, W.Va., died Wednesday, Dec. 6, 2000, at Cortland Acres Nursing Home, Thomas, W.Va.
Born May 25, 1915, in Gnegy Church, W.Va., she was the daughter of the late Earl Clayton and Maude (Spitzer) Mosser. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Webster D. Roth, in 1973.
She was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church, where she was active in the adult fellowship and a member of the choir.
Survivors include two sons, Earl D. Roth, Renick, W.Va., and Donald G. Roth, Horse Shoe Run; one daughter, Mary Jane Gnegy, Oakland; one brother, Chester Mosser, Oakland; nine grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.
Friends will be received at the Durst Funeral Home, Oakland, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. on Friday. A service will be conducted at St. John's Lutheran Church on Saturday, Dec. 9, at 1 p.m., with Pastor William Connelly officiating. Interment will be in St. John's Cemetery.
The family suggests memorials take the form of contributions to Cortland Acres Nursing Home or St. John's Lutheran Church.
ILSE G. YUTZY
Ilse Gertrude Yutzy, 78, Springs, Pa., died Tuesday, Dec. 5, 2000, at Meyersdale (Pa.) Medical Center.
Born Feb. 22, 1922, in St. Goartshausen, Germany, she was the daughter of the late Paul and Gertrude Wiemert.
She was a member of the Church of the Redeemer, Grantsville, and was a home-maker.
Survivors include her husband, Scott G. Yutzy; three sons, Rudolph R. Yutzy, Fayetteville, N.C., and Scott P. Yutzy and Robert A. Yutzy, both of Springs; two daughters, Trudy Hutzel, Salisbury, Pa., and Heidi M. Davis, Cumberland; two brothers, Richard and Hans Wiemert, both of Hanau, Germany; six grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
Friends will be received at the Newman Funeral Home, Grantsville, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. today, Thursday. A service will be conducted at the funeral home on Friday, Dec. 8, at 2 p.m., with the Rev. Dale Curtis officiating. Interment will be in the Springs Cemetery.

CLEO P. BROADWATER
Cleo Pearl (Murphy) Broadwater, 87, Fairchance, Pa., died Wednesday, Dec. 6, 2000, at Ruby Memorial Hospital, Morgantown, W.Va.
Born Dec. 15, 1912, in Dry Run, Swanton, she was the daughter of the late Thomas and Lula (Greene) Murphy. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Howard C. Broadwater.
Friends will be received at the Dean C. Whitmarsh Funeral Home, 134 W. Church St., Fairchance, Pa., from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. on Sunday, and at the United Pentecostal Church of Fairchance on Monday, Dec. 11, from 11 a.m. until noon, time of the service, with the Rev. Daniel DeFrank officiating. Interment will be in the Broadwater Cemetery, Dry Run.
ROSCOE H. SWIGER
Roscoe H. "Rocky" Swiger, 78, of Oakland, died Thursday, Feb. 22, 2001, after a long illness.
He was born Feb. 11, 1923, in Erwin, W.Va., and was a son of the late Anthony W. Swiger and Edith (Howard) Swiger. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one son, Rocky C. Swiger.
Mr. Swiger was a retired farmer and employee of the Oakland Agway. He was a member of the Pleasant View Baptist Church, the Garrett County Farm Bureau, and the FFA. He served on the Garrett County Election Board for 26 years and was a member of the Maryland Association of Election Officers. He was a 50-year member and past Grand Chancellor and Trustee of Garrett Lodge #113 Knights of Pythias. He was also past Grand Master at Arms. Mr. Swiger was an Army Air Corps veteran of World War II and a member of Proctor Kildow Post #71 American Legion.
He is survived by his wife, Barbara (Allison) Swiger; two sons, Jerry W. Swiger, Mtn. Lake Park, and Thomas L. Swiger, Oakland; one daughter, Kathy S. Swiger, Alexandria, Va.; four grand-children; and four great-grandchildren.
Friends were received at the Durst Funeral Home in Oakland on Saturday and the Garrett Lodge #113 conducted a memorial service at the funeral home. Funeral services were conducted at the Pleasant View Baptist Church on Sunday with the Rev. Wally Weeks officiating.
Interment was at the Pleasant Valley Cemetery.
Members of local veterans' organization accorded military honors at the graveside.
Memorials may be directed to the Mary Babb Randolph Cancer Center in Morgantown, W.Va.
MARY C. TWIST
Mary Catherine "Muzz" (Smith) Twist, 61, of Bishopville, formerly of Cumberland, died Tuesday, Feb. 20, 2001, in Atlantic General Hospital, Berlin.
Born Feb. 26, 1939, she was the daughter of the late Raymond Clark Smith Sr. and the late Grace Mae (Lewis) Smith. She was preceded in death by one son, Donald L. Collins; one sister, Virginia Adams; one step-sister, Ginger Phillips; and her stepmother, Mary Edna (George) Smith.
Surviving are her husband of 21 years, Andrew J. "A.J." Twist; five daughters, Grace J. Adkins, Ijamesville, Cindy R. Gulbronson, Norfolk, Va., Verna Blevins, Manassa, Va., Billie J. Ashby, Oakland, and Betty J. Wallizer, Cresaptown; two sons, Ronald N. Collins, Rockville, and James R. Collins, Frederick; one sister, Wanda Farrell, Mechanicsville; three brothers, Raymond Smith, Short Gap, W.Va., Thomas "Tink" Smith, Cumberland, and Michael Smith, Cumberland; three stepsisters, Shirley Lease, Augusta, W.Va., Judy Plummer, Cumberland, and Mary George, Paw Paw, W.Va.; six step-brothers, Bud George, Rawlings, Bob George, Cresaptown, Gene George, Cumberland, Johnny George, Ridgeley, W.Va., Davy George, Ridgeley, and Ray George, Cumberland; 21 grandchildren; and one great-granddaughter.
Friends were received at the Scarpelli Funeral Home on Saturday.
At Mrs. Twist's request, her body was cremated.
AGNES I. HIGGINS
Agnes Isabell Higgins, 81, Frostburg, died Friday, Feb. 23, 2001, at Garrett County Memorial Hospital, Oakland.
Born April 4, 1919, in Barton, she was the daughter of the late Ernest and Emma (Porter) Schramm. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Kenneth Higgins, in 1965; seven brothers; and one sister.
Mrs. Higgins retired from the Celanese Corp. in 1976. She was a member of Vale Summit United Methodist Church.
Surviving are two daughters, Linda Higgins, Oakland, and Connie Higgins, Friendsville; and a sister, Doris Schramm, Pleasantville, Ohio.
Friends were received at the Vale Summit United Methodist Church on Sunday.
Services were conducted at the church on Sunday, with Pastor Daymond Schmuck and the Rev. George M. Harpold officiating.
The body was cremated and inurnment was at the Vale Summit United Methodist Cemetery.

WILLIAM E. ROUNDS
William Edgar Rounds, 75, of Bloomington, died Friday, Feb. 23, 2001, at Cuppett-Weeks Nursing Home, Oakland.
Born in Bond, on March 26, 1925, he was the son of the late Salem Edgar and Stella Mae (Wilt) Rounds. He was also preceded in death by a son, Richard William Rounds.
Mr. Rounds was a U.S. Army veteran, having served during World War II. He retired from Westvaco Corp. in 1990, having been a maintenance mechanic. Mr. Rounds was a member, head usher, and deacon of the Westernport Church of the Brethren. He was also a member of Queens Point VFW #6775, McCoole.
Surviving are his wife, Josephine Helen (Hartman) Rounds; one son, Joseph Rounds, Swanton; two daughters, Brenda McIntyre, Mtn. Lake Park, and Joyce Williams, Mtn. Lake Park; four brothers, Albert Rounds, of Virginia, Ellis Rounds, Alliance, Ohio, Harold Rounds, Mesa, Ariz., and Paul Rounds, Finzel; five grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
The family received friends at the Boal Funeral Home, Westernport, on Monday.
Funeral services were conducted at the Westernport Church of the Brethren on Tuesday, with the Rev. William Shimer and the Rev. Ervin Huston officiating.
Interment was in the Rest Lawn Memorial Gardens, LaVale.
ELLA S. JONES
Ella Summers Jones, 84, of Oakland, died on Saturday, Feb. 24, 2001, at the Cherry Hill Assisted Living Residence in Accident.
She was born on July 4, 1916, in Akron, Ohio, and was a daughter of the late Goff Summers and Mary Lynch Summers.
Mrs. Jones was a graduate of Glenville State College and also attended West Virginia University. She had been a math and science teacher at West Virginia high schools in Tanner, Widen, Rainelle, Glenville, Cheat Lake, and Morgantown, where she retired in 1973.
In 1985, she and her husband moved to Oakland from Morgantown. Since 1966, they have been summer residents on Paradise Point at Deep Creek Lake. She was a member of St. Matthew's Episcopal Church in Oakland. She had started a quilting class in the parish hall and had taught the art of quilting to more than 200 women.
Mrs. Jones is survived by her husband of 59 years, Lloyd M. (Casey) Jones; one son, Judge William Goff Jones, Charlotte, N.C.; one daughter, Sarah Elizabeth Stuart, also of Charlotte; two sisters, Susan Kleis of Sykesville, and Marybell Shaver, Glenville, W.Va; four grand-children; and two great-grandchildren.
At her request, her body will be cremated.
Memorial services will be held Saturday, April 14, at noon, at St. Matthew's Episcopal Church in Oakland, and at Glenville Presbyterian Church in Glenville, at a later date.
Should friends desire, memorials may be directed to St. Matthew's Episcopal Church or Hospice of Garrett County.

CATHARINE M. SOMMERS
Catharine Marie Sommers, 70, of Springs, Pa., died Sunday, Feb. 25, 2001, at Allegheny General Hospital, Pittsburgh.
Born Nov. 17, 1930, in Grantsville, she was a daughter of the late Allen and Alma (Miller) Maust. She was also preceded in death by her three children, Shirley, Virgil, and Eugene; one granddaughter, Heather Yoder; and two sisters, Rhoda and Mabel Maust.
Mrs. Sommers was a member of the Maple Glen Mennonite Church. She was also a board member of the Women's Aglow, Somerset, Pa., and a homemaker.
She is survived by her husband, Eli E. Sommers; one son, Leroy A. Sommers, McGaheysville, Va.; two daughters, Elsie M. Sommers, Tulsa, Okla., Twila F. Yoder, New Paris, Ind.; two brothers, Paul Maust, Grantsville, and Jonas Maust, Holmesville, Ohio; three sisters, Barbara Barnhart, Dover, Del., Miriam Kemp, Costa Rica, and Martha Maust, Plain City, Ohio; and eight grandchildren.Friends were received at the Newman Funeral Home, Grantsville, on Tuesday. Services were conducted today, Thursday, at 10 a.m. at Maple Glen Mennonite Church, with the Rev. Robert Yoder and the Rev. Philip Moser officiating.

EVERETT C. WEITZELL
Everett Carl Weitzell, 88, of Winchester, Va., died Monday, Feb. 26, 2001, at the Winchester Medical Center.
Mr. Weitzell was born August 13, 1912, in Paradise, the son of the late George W. and Anne E. Lohr Weitzell.
He was an agricultural economist with the U.S. Department of Agriculture, retiring after 41 years of service. He was a member of Market Street United Methodist Church and the Virginia Horticultural Society. He was chairman of the Alexandria, Va., Planning Commission for 15 years. He received a master of science degree in agriculture from the University of Maryland, and a Ph.D. in agriculture economics from the University of Wisconsin. He was a veteran of World War II, South Pacific Theater, having served as a lieutenant in the United States Navy.
Mr. Weitzell married Hazel Mae Speicher on July 11, 1935, in Accident.
Surviving along with his wife is a daughter, Sada Ann Johnson, Alexandria, Va.; a son, Roy E. Weitzell, Harrisonburg, Va.; five grand-children; and two great-grandchildren.
All arrangements are private.
