GEORGE S. STEWART
George S. 'Teener' Stewart, 81, Oakland, died Friday, Jan. 14, 2000, at Garrett County Memorial Hospital, Oakland.
Born Aug. 9, 1918, in Vindex, he was a son of the late Harrison B. Stewart I, and Sylvia L. (Shirley) Stewart. He was also preceded in death by two brothers, the Rev. Leroy Stewart and Harrison B. 'Bum' Stewart II.
He was an active member of the Oakland Church of the Nazarene, where he served on the church board. He retired as an office manager for the A&P Stores, Inc., serving over 41 years in the Oakland, Parsons, W.Va., and Kingwood, W.Va., stores. After his retirement, he was the manager and partner in Miller’s Market, Inc., from 1979 to 1982.
He was one of the founding fathers of the Oakland Little League, served as president for many years, and coached the Moose team. He served nine undefeated consecutive terms on the Oakland Town Council, where he was the chairman of the street department committee.
During World War II, he served in Europe with the Army Air Corps, and was a member of Proctor Kildow Post 71, American Legion, Oakland.
He was an avid woodworker and made many wooden crosses and Christian plaques which he donated to many individuals, ministers, and churches.
Survivors include his wife of 53 years, Jennie M. (Uphold) Stewart; one son, Bradley A. Stewart, Oakland; and one granddaughter.
Friends were received at the Stewart Funeral Home, Oakland. A service was conducted at the Oakland Church of the Nazarene on Monday, Jan. 17, with the Rev. Arthur Evans and the Rev. Richard Walker officiating. Interment was in Garrett County Memorial Gardens, Oakland.
Military honors were accorded at the cemetery by members of the various veterans organizations in southern Garrett County.

H. ELIZABETH WERNER
H. Elizabeth Werner, 81, Corsicana, Texas, died Thursday, Jan. 13, 2000, at Navarro Regional Hospital, Corsicana.
Born Jan. 26, 1918, in West Virginia, she was the daughter of the late Frank and Margaret Iacovone. She was also preceded in death by one son, James Werner.
She was a homemaker and a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Corsicana.
Survivors include her husband, Myles Werner; eight children, Patricia Bodes, Finzel, Judy Telligman, West Palm Beach, Fla., Ronald Werner, Corsicana, Gary Werner, Visallia, Calif., Jack Werner, Rock Hill, S.C., Mary Jane Murdock, Springs, Pa., Linda Whisner, Fort Hill, Pa., and Susan Shoap, Corsicana; 23 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and one brother, Frank Iacovone, Bentonville, S.C.
A memorial service was conducted at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Pocohontas, Pa., on Wednesday, Jan. 19, with the Rev. Bernard White officiating.
The family suggests memorials be made to the Perpetual Care Fund of the Finzel Cemetery, 28 Old Schoolhouse Road, Frostburg, MD 21532.
MERRILL E. LEASURE
Merrill Eugene Leasure, 85, Cumberland, died Saturday, Jan. 15, 2000, at the Goodwill Mennonite Home, Grantsville.
Born Oct. 7, 1914, in Cumberland, he was a son of the late Frank Eugene and Florence B. (Russell) Leasure. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Mary E. Leasure, in 1996; one brother, Harold Leasure; and one grandson. He was the last surviving member of his immediate family.
He was a retired employee of the Celanese Fibers Corporation of America. He was a member of the Loyal Order of the Moose, Goodfellowship Club, and the Fraternal Order of Eagles, Aerie 245.
Survivors include one daughter, Brenda P. Dolan, Oldtown; two stepsons, George F. Wilson, Baltimore, and Lester J. Wilson, Furnace Acres, W.Va.; one stepdaughter, Virginia Mongold, Wiley Ford, W.Va.; nine grandchildren; and 16 great-grandchildren.
Friends were received at the Merritt-Adams Funeral Home, Cumberland, where a service was conducted Tuesday, Jan. 18, with Chaplain Lewis Twigg officiating. Interment was in Sunset Memorial Park.
DIANA K. TESTA
Diana K. Testa, 68, Lowellville, Ohio, died Thursday, Dec. 9, 1999, at the Forum Health Northside Medical Center, Youngstown, Ohio.
Born May 31, 1931, in National, she was a daughter of the late Anthony and Viola (Shives) Kaefer. She was also preceded in death by two sisters, Charlotte 'Judy' K. Bolyard and Alice K. Negley.
She was a 1949 graduate of Beall High School, Frostburg, and moved to Youngstown in 1950. She retired in 1993 after 20 years of service as a librarian for the Youngstown Board of Education. She was of the Catholic faith.
Survivors include three daughters, Della J. Kish, Vienna, Eva J. Timkovich, Lowellville, with whom she made her home, and Judith J. Kern, Austonville, Ohio; two sons, Anthony M. Jacobs and Ralph John Testa II, both of Youngstown; three sisters, Eva K. Crump, Hubbard, Ohio, and Margaret K. Spataro and Annagale K. Miller, both of National; two brothers, Charles C. Kaefer, Grantsville, and John Stark, Girard, Ohio; and four grandchildren.
A service was conducted at the Higgins Reardon Funeral Home, Boardman-Canifield Chapel, on Dec. 13, 1999. Interment was in the Tod Hornstead Cemetery, Youngstown.
HARLEY M. WILDESEN
Harley Marshall Wildesen, 80, Swanton, died Saturday, Jan. 15, 2000, at Ruby Memorial Hospital, Morgantown, W.Va.
Born April 12, 1919, in Gorman, he was a son of the late Franklin and Bertie (Chance) Wildesen.
He was retired from the Westvaco Corporation, where he worked for 39 years. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II and a member of Otterbein United Methodist Church, Swanton. He was a member of the Deer Park Community Volunteer Fire Department, where he was inducted into its Hall of Flame. He was a former member of the Black Hawk Hunting Club.
Surviving are his wife, Betty Jane (Bray) Wildesen; four sons, Gerald W. Wildesen, Mtn. Lake Park, Harold F. Wildesen, Crellin, Darrell M. Wildesen, Wellersburg, Pa., and Richard W. Wildesen, Mtn. Lake Park; one sister, Iva Goodrich, Saltsbury, Vt.; two brothers, Herbert Wildesen and James Wildesen, both of Gorman; 11 grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
Friends were received at the Durst Funeral Home, Oakland. A service was conducted at the Otterbein United Methodist Church, Swanton, on Monday, Jan. 17, with the Rev. Meredith Ball officiating. Interment was in Garrett County Memorial Gardens, Oakland.
Military honors were accorded at the cemetery by members of the Combined Veterans Honor Guard.
MILDRED V. SWEITZER
Mildred V. Sweitzer, 80, Kitzmiller, died Monday, Jan. 17, 2000, at Garrett County Memorial Hospital, Oakland.
Born Oct. 5, 1919, in Vindex, she was a daughter of the late John and Lucy (Simms) Beeman. She was also preceded in death by her husband, George E. Sweitzer Sr., in 1972; two sons, George E. 'Porge' Sweitzer Jr., and Jimmy Sweitzer; one grandson; and one great-grandson.
Survivors include four daughters, M. Gail Hardesty and Judy E. Hardesty, both of Kitzmiller, Charlotte L. Sollars, Thompson, Ohio, and Delores A. Nelson, Oakland; one sister, Erma Hauser, Oakland; 10 grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
Friends were received at the Stewart Funeral Home, Oakland, where a service was conducted at 2 p.m. today, Jan. 20, with the Rev. Gail Hixon officiating. Interment was in the Deer Park Cemetery.
LEWIS P. NEWMAN
Lewis Peter Newman, 84, Keyser, W.Va., died Monday, Jan. 17, 2000, at Moran Manor Nursing Home, Westernport.
Born April 12, 1915, in Salisbury, Pa., he was the son of the late Frank and Sally (May) Newman. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Hazel R. (Stanley) Newman, on Nov. 19, 1999.
He was a member of the Salisbury Church of the Brethren and was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II. He was a member of the Salisbury American Legion and was a retired shipping clerk for Westvaco Corporation.
Survivors include two stepsons, Randy Rhodes, Shepherdstown, W.Va., and Jeffrey Rhodes, Cumberland; four stepdaughters, Judy Vincent, Los Altos, Calif., Mary Lou Wilson and Joann Parrish, both of Keyser, and Sandi Ketterman, Moorefield, W.Va.; one sister, Mary Belle Chaconas, Fairhope, Pa.; 14 step-grandchildren; and 11 step-great-grandchildren.
Friends were received at the Newman Funeral Home, Grantsville, where a service was conducted earlier today, Jan. 20, with the Rev. Daniel Whitacre officiating. Interment was in the Salisbury Cemetery.
CATHERINE E. GRANT
Catherine E. Grant, 88, Luke, died Tuesday, Jan. 18, 2000, at the Moran Manor Nursing Home, Westernport, where she had been a resident.
Born Feb. 14, 1911, at Bloomington, she was the daughter of the late Charles and Louise (Clark) Ball. She was also preceded in death by her husband, William F. Grant Sr., in 1987; one son, William F. Grant Jr.; and one grandson.
She was a homemaker and a member of Trinity United Methodist Church, Piedmont, W.Va.
Survivors include two sons, James Grant, Luke, and Robert Grant, Moran Manor Nursing Home, Westernport; two daughters, Doris Garvey, Freedom, Pa., and Anna Grabenstein, Branford, Conn.; seven grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren.
Friends were received at the Boal Funeral Home, Westernport, where a service was conducted earlier today, Jan. 20, with the Rev. Joseph Jarrett officiating. Interment followed in the Philos Cemetery, Westernport.
WALTER M. MOORE
Walter Murl 'Rip' Moore, 80, St. George, W.Va., Texas Mountain community, died Tuesday, Jan. 18, 2000, at his home.
Born Feb. 11, 1919, at St. George, he was a son of the late Charles Howard and Velva Myrtle (Martin) Moore. He was also preceded in death by one brother, Earl Moore.
He attended the Murphy School at Texas Mountain, and was a timber cutter, and a farmer. He retired in 1981 from the West Virginia Department of Highways. He attended the Sugar Grove Church at Texas Mountain.
Survivors include his wife of 53 years, Emogene Belle (Gainer) Moore, whom he married Nov. 16, 1946, in Oakland; four sons, Charles W. Moore, Aurora, W.Va., Dennis M. Moore, West Seneca, N.Y., James W. Moore, Oakland, and Randall L. Moore, St. George; one daughter, Carol Ann Harris, Greenville, Ohio; two brothers, Brown Moore and Howard Moore, both of St. George; five sisters, Belva Gooden, Chicora, Pa., Dessie Jones, St. George, Edna Auvil, Elkins, W.Va., Mary Shingleton, Sunbury, Ohio, and Eva Phillips, Parsons, W.Va.; 10 grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
Friends will be received at the Barb & Greenlief Funeral Home, Parsons, from 3 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. on Friday. A service will be conducted at the funeral home on Saturday, Jan. 22, at 2 p.m., with Pastor Robert Leard officiating. Interment will follow in the Pifer Mountain (W.Va.) Cemetery.
PRISCILLA F. GRACIE
Priscilla F. Gracie, Frostburg, died Tuesday, Jan. 18, 2000, at Sacred Heart Hospital, Cumberland.
Born in Vindex, she was a daughter of the late Alex Gibson Coleman and Arizona (Males) Coleman. She was also preceded in death by five sons, one daughter, and one sister.
She was a foster mother for many years and was a member of Liberty Fellowship, Cresaptown.
Survivors include her husband, Ned Eugene Gracie; two sons, Robert Kinney, Eckhart, and Thomas Kinney, Moorefield, W.Va.; two daughters, Debbie Smith, Oakland, and Margaret Gracie, at home; one sister, Ilda Green, Gilmore; one brother, Gary Coleman, Wyoming; 20 grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; several great-great-grandchildren; and several foster children.
Friends will be received at the Eichorn-McKenzie Funeral Home, Lonaconing, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. today, Thursday. A service will be conducted at the Liberty Fellowship on Friday, Jan. 21, at 1 p.m., with Pastor Gary Gordon officiating. Interment will be in Rest Lawn Memorial Gardens, LaVale.
The body will be taken to the church one hour prior to the service.
