BEATRICE I. TAYLOR
Beatrice I. (Gonder) Taylor, 86, Bruceton Mills, W.Va. (Hazelton community), died Friday, Dec. 31, 1999, at Heartland of Preston County, Kingwood, W.Va.
Born April 16, 1913, in Hazelton, she was the daughter of the late Jasper C. and Nora (Fike) Schnopp.
She was a member of the Methodist Episcopal Church; Youghiogheny Glades Chapter, Daughters of the American Revolution; the Preston County (W.Va.) Historical Society; the Garrett County Historical Society; and the Historical and Genealogical Society of Somerset County, Pa. She was a former Brownie Scout leader in Oakland, attended Strayer’s Business College in Washington, D.C., and worked as a secretary for the Department of Defense, also in Washington.
Survivors include her husband, Arthur R. Taylor; one daughter, Carole Ann (Gonder) Glotfelty, Charles Town, W.Va.; four grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
Friends were received at the Carl R. Spear Funeral Home, Brandonville, W.Va., and at the Hazelton Church of the Brethren, where a service was conducted Tuesday, Jan. 4, with the Rev. Vicki Sheppard officiating. Interment was in the Webbs Chapel Cemetery, Hazelton.
MINNIE M. TEETS
Minnie M. Teets, 83, Terra Alta, W.Va. (Lake Ford community), died Sunday, Dec. 26, 1999, at Dennett Road Manor Nursing Home, Oakland.
Born June 3, 1916, in Swallow Falls, she was a daughter of the late Emery Elwood and Mary Matilda (Hardesty) Lewis. She was also preceded in death by her first husband, Floyd Spiker, in 1941; one son, William Donald Spiker, in 1982; four sisters; and six brothers.
She attended the Lake Ford United Methodist Church.
Survivors include her husband, Harold Lemond Teets; one son, Harold Blaine Teets, Terra Alta; two daughters, Betty Myers and Susan Metheny, both of Terra Alta; one sister, Grace Marie Rush, Friendsville; six grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.
Friends were received at the Arthur H. Wright Funeral Home, Terra Alta, and at the Lake Ford United Methodist Church, where a service was conducted Tuesday, Dec. 28, with the Revs. Berlin H. Wilhelm and Sam Wachter officiating. Interment followed in the Lake Ford Cemetery.
DORLADEEN THOMAS
Dorladeen Thomas, 63, Beltsville, formerly of Elk Garden, W.Va., died Saturday, Jan. 1, 2000, at her home.
Born Dec. 9, 1936, in Elk Garden, she was the daughter of the late George H. and Mae (Liller) Burdock. She was also preceded in death by her husband, James Thomas.
She was retired from Equifax Credit Bureau.
Survivors include one daughter, Teresa Thomas, Beltsville; one stepdaughter, Crystal Stewart, Edgewater; three brothers, George Carroll Burdock, Clyde L. Burdock, and Daniel B. Burdock, all of Elk Garden; and two grandchildren.
Friends were received at the David A. Burdock Funeral Home, Kitzmiller. A service was conducted at the Nethken Hill United Methodist Church on Tuesday, Jan. 4, with the Rev. Brenda Shreve officiating. Interment was in the Kalbaugh Cemetery, Elk Garden.
EMMA G. LITTON
Emma Gertrude Litton, 74, a resident of the Cuppett-Weeks Nursing Home, Oakland, since 1981, died Wednesday, Dec. 29, 1999, at Garrett County Memorial Hospital, Oakland.
Born May 17, 1925, in Chaneysville, Pa., she was the daughter of the late Roy C. and Roxy Edna (O’Neal) Shipley. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Roy James Litton, in 1992, and two brothers, Jesse Shipley and Robert Shipley.
She had been a homemaker.
Survivors include two sons, Alvin Litton, Short Gap, W.Va., and Edward Litton, Manassas, Va.; two sisters, Etta Mae Emerick, Plantation, Fla., and Ada Diehl, Rainesburg, Pa.; one brother, John Shipley; five grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
Friends were received at the Upchurch Funeral Home, Cumberland, where a service was conducted Tuesday, Jan. 4, with the Rev. Roy Stanley officiating. Interment was in Sunset Memorial Park.
HARLAND D. RIDDER
Harland D. Ridder, 88, Keyser, W.Va., died Sunday, Jan. 2, 2000, at the Heartland of Keyser Nursing Home, where he had been a resident since June 1998.
Born Sept. 12, 1911, in Oakland, he was a son of the late Ernest and Dorothy (Baker) Ridder. He was also preceded in death on May 27, 1998, by his wife of 62 years, Anna E. (Dawson) Ridder, and by two brothers and two sisters.
He was a graduate of Oakland High School. He worked for Ralph Pritts Garage in Oakland as garage manager. He later enlisted in the U.S. Army Air Corps and spent much of World War II in Calcutta, India. He returned to his employment at Pritts Garage following the war. He also owned and operated Ridder’s Motors Garage in Keyser until 1966. He was a member of the board of directors of Farmers and Merchants Bank in Keyser, where he retired as vice president in 1980. He was elected mayor of Keyser in 1963 and served in that capacity for three terms.
He was a member and served on the board of directors of the Keyser Rotary Club, served as its president, and was named a Paul Harris Fellow. He was also a member and past president of the Mineral County (W.Va.) Chamber of Commerce and was named that organization’s Man of the Year. The governor of West Virginia named him a Distinguished West Virginian, and the Keyser Kiwanis Club named him Citizen of the Year.
He was a member of the Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church, Keyser, and several organizations within the region.
Surviving are one daughter, Kathryn Ann 'Kay' Landes, Keyser; four sisters; two brothers; two grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
Friends were received at the Smith Funeral Home, Keyser, where a service was conducted Wednesday, Jan. 5, with the Rev. Matthew Riegel officiating. Interment was in Potomac Memorial Gardens, Keyser.
The family requests that memorials take the form of contributions to a local service or volunteer organization of the donor’s choice.
VIOLET A. PIKE
Violet A. Pike, 79, Oakland, died Saturday, Jan. 1, 2000, at the Cuppett-Weeks Nursing Home, Oakland.
Born Nov. 14, 1920, in Swallow Falls, she was a daughter of the late John R. and Verna R. (Sines) Helms. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Willard R. Pike, in 1973.
She was a member of the Crellin Assembly of God Church and Lodge 11, Woodmen of the World, Oakland. She worked in the housekeeping department of Garrett County Memorial Hospital for more than 27 years.
Surviving are two daughters, Vonda J. Bittinger, Bloomington, and Sharon K. Baker, Oakland; one son, Richard J. 'Jim' Pike, Prince Frederick; one sister, Patsy L. O’Brian, Swanton; seven grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren.
Friends were received at the Stewart Funeral Home, Oakland. A service was conducted at the Crellin Assembly of God Church on Tuesday, Jan. 4, with the Rev. David Snodgrass officiating. Interment was in Garrett County Memorial Gardens, Oakland.
ELROY C. PLATTER
Elroy C. Platter, 87, Frostburg, died Monday, Jan. 3, 2000, at Sacred Heart Hospital, Cumberland.
Born May 23, 1912, in Garrett County, he was a son of the late Charles and Jane (Durst) Platter. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Ola (Butler) Platter; one son, Kenneth Platter; and several brothers and sisters.
Survivors include one son, Ronald Platter, Frost-burg; one daughter, Shirley Decker, Frostburg; one brother, Orvis Platter, Fort Hill, Pa.; five grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.
Friends were received at the Sowers Funeral Home, Frostburg, where a service was conducted Wednesday, Jan. 5, with the Rev. George M. Harpold officiating. Interment was in the Mount Savage Methodist Cemetery.
LOUISE B. STANTON
Louise B. Stanton, 81, Oakland, died Tuesday, Jan. 4, 2000, at Garrett County Memorial Hospital, Oakland.
Born July 18, 1918, in Mountain Lake Park, she was a daughter of the late Frank and Della (Lee) Moomaw. She was also preceded in death by two husbands, Cpl. Thomas Curry, Maryland State Police, and Aza C. Stanton Jr.
Following her graduation from Oakland High School, she worked at Rudy’s in downtown Oakland. She retired from the West Penn Power Company in Oakland and for many years was a partner with her husband in the Azalou Studios, also in Oakland. She attended the Deep Creek Baptist Church.
Survivors include one sister, Wilma E. Canty, Fredericksburg, Va., one niece, and three nephews.
Friends will be received at the Stewart Funeral Home, Oakland, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. today, Thursday. A service will be conducted at the funeral home on Friday, Jan. 7, at 11 a.m., with Pastor Donald Wilson officiating. Interment will follow in the Grantsville Cemetery.

EDWARD K. HARVEY SR.
Edward Kenneth Harvey Sr., 86, Bloomington, died Monday, Jan. 3, 2000, at Sacred Heart Hospital, Cumberland.
Born Sept. 28, 1913, at Kitzmiller, he was a son of the late Edward Franklin and Ina Mae (Davis) Harvey. He was also preceded in death by a sister, Geraldine Ryan, and a brother, Darl M. Harvey.
He was a member of the First Assembly of God Church, Westernport, where he was also a member of the Men’s Bible Class. He retired from Westvaco Corp. after 20 years of service, having worked in roll wrapping. Prior to that he was a coal miner for 24 years. He was a member of Luke Local 676 UPIU.
Survivors include his wife, Dora (Sisler) Harvey; two sons, Don Harvey, Bloomington, and Ken Harvey, Westernport; two daughters, Lola Whittington, Short Gap, W.Va., and Karen Hamilton, Keyser, W.Va.; 13 grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren.
Friends were received at the Boal Funeral Home, Westernport. A service was conducted at the First Assembly of God Church earlier today, Jan. 6, with the Rev. Jerry Schloe officiating. Interment was in the Bloomington Cemetery.
OLIVE V. DEWITT
Olive V. DeWitt, 91, Connellsville, Pa., formerly of Terra Alta, W.Va., died Tuesday, Jan. 4, 2000, at Allegheny General Hospital, Pittsburgh.
Born June 20, 1908, in Terra Alta, she was a daughter of the late Clark and Emma (Lewis) Groves. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Aubrey F. DeWitt, in 1976; one son, Earnest E. DeWitt; one sister, Nellie Hoff; one brother, Daily Groves; and one grandson.
She had lived in Connellsville for most of her life. She was a member of the Otterbein United Methodist Church, Connellsville.
Survivors include one daughter, Kathleen DeWitt; and five grandchildren.
Friends will be received at the Brooks Funeral Home, Connellsville, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. today, Thursday. A service will be conducted at the funeral home on Friday, Jan. 7, at 1 p.m., with the Rev. Elmer Reamer officiating. A committal service and interment will follow in Green Ridge Memorial Park, Pennsville, Pa.
DONNA J. MOON
Donna J. Moon, 50, Mtn. Lake Park, died Saturday, Jan. 1, 2000, at her home.
Born April 20, 1949, in Washington, D.C., she was the daughter of E. Jean (Wells) Rubin Smith, Baltimore, and the late William S. Rubin Sr.
She worked as a laundry aide at the Cuppett-Weeks Nursing Home, Oakland.
In addition to her mother, she is survived by her stepfather, James E. Smith; her husband, Ricky L. Moon; two stepdaughters, Elizabeth Moon and Patricia Ison, both of Mtn. Lake Park; one stepson, James Moon, Loch Lynn; two half-sisters, Patricia A. Smith, West Virginia, and Shirley J. Smith, Bluefield, W.Va.; two brothers, Kenneth J. Rubin, Davidsonville, and William S. Rubin Jr., Carthage, N.C.; and two step-sons.
Friends were received at the Stewart Funeral Home, Oakland. A service was condcuted earlier today, Jan. 6, at the Mountain Lake Independent Baptist Church, with the Rev. Dennis Leatherman officiating. Interment followed in the Fairview Cemetery.
