D. Nazelrod Sr., 74, Oakland, died Sunday, Oct. 17, 1999, at his home
Born Nov. 21, 1924, in Oakland, he was a son of the late John W. and A. Ellen (Self) Nazelrod.
He retired as a supervisor after 34 years of service with the Garrett County Roads Department. He was a 30-year member and honorary deacon of the Mountain Top Christian Assembly of God Church, and was a member of Woodmen of the World, Lodge 11, Oakland.
Survivors include his wife of 53 years, Leona J. (Lewis) Nazelrod; two daughters, Ruth E. Friend, Oakland, and Patricia Ann Fridley, Steven City, Va.; one son, Victor D. Nazelrod Jr., Oakland; two sisters, Lena Bateman, Deer Park, and Amy Shaffer, Linwood, S.C.; three brothers, Roscoe Nazelrod, Salisbury, Paul Nazelrod, Oakland, and Ronald Nazelrod, Terra Alta, W.Va.; nine grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren.
Friends were received at the Stewart Funeral Home, Oakland. A service was conducted at the Mountain Top Christian Assembly of God Church on Wednesday, Oct. 20, with the Rev. David Johnson and the Rev. Gail Hixon officiating. Interment was in the Pleasant Valley Cemetery, Oakland.
THOMAS H. ELDER
Thomas H. Elder, 79, Swanton, died Thursday, Oct. 21, 1999, at Garrett County Memorial Hospital, Oakland.
Born April 2, 1920, in Brookville, Pa., he was the son of the late Milton L. and Maude (Snyder) Elder.
He retired from Universal Atlas Cement, a division of U.S. Steel, Pittsburgh. He was a graduate of the University of Pittsburgh with a B.S. degree in engineering. He was a U.S. Air Force veteran of World War II and was a member of the masonic lodge of Pittsburgh.
Surviving are his wife, Laura M. (Holmes) Whiteman Elder; one daughter, Donna C. Mohr, Canton, Ohio; one son, Danny Thomas, N. Canton, Ohio; one stepson, Gary Whiteman, Oakland; and five grandchildren.
Friends were received at the Stewart Funeral Home, Oakland. A memorial service will be conducted at the Deep Creek Baptist Church on Saturday, Oct. 30, at 11 a.m., with the Rev. Donald Wilson officiating. Inurnment will be conducted at the Columbarium at Arlington National Cemetery at a later date.

WILLIAM F. VANMETER
William F. VanMeter, 77, Oakland, died Tuesday, Oct. 19, 1999, at Ruby Memorial Hospital, Morgantown, W.Va.
Born June 25, 1922, in Enterprise, W.Va., he was a son of the late John and Genevieve VanMeter. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Ruth (Shanaberger) VanMeter, in 1975, and one brother, Douglas E. VanMeter.
He was retired from Monongahela Power Company with 33 years of sevice. He was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II.
Survivors include his companion, Mildred 'Millie' Billey, and one brother, Russell W. VanMeter, Maples, Fla.
Friends were received at the Durst Funeral Home, Oakland, where a service was conducted Saturday, Oct. 23, with the Rev. Donald Matthews officiating. Cremation followed.

JOSEPHINE F. RODENHAUSER
Josephine Friend Rodenhauser, 84, LaVale, died Friday, Oct. 22, 1999, at her home.
Born Dec. 13, 1914, in Sang Run, she was the daughter of the late Vestus C. and Fannie (DeWitt) Friend. She was also preceded in death by her husband, John Charles Rodenhauser, in 1985. She was the last surviving member of her immediate family.
She was retired from the Allegany Ballistics Laboratory. She was a member of the LaVale United Methodist Church.
Survivors include one son, Roy A. Rodenhauser, Cresaptown; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Friends were received at the Scarpelli Funeral Home, Cresaptown, where a service was conducted Monday, Oct. 25, with the Rev. Bernadette Ross officiating. Interment was in the Rose Hill Cemetery.
WARREN M. WAKEFIELD
Warren Merle Wakefield, 77, Alexandria, Va., formerly of Friendsville, died Saturday, Oct. 23, 1999, at Mount Vernon Hospital, Alexandria.
Born June 19, 1922, in Friendsville, he was a son of the late Walter and Carrie (Fike) Wakefield. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Mildred Fay (Uphold) Wakefield, on Jan. 27, 1996.
He was a member of the Blooming Rose United Methodist Church and was a retired sawyer. A U.S. Army veteran of World War II, he was also a member of Proctor-Kildow Post 71, American Legion, Oakland.
Survivors include four daughters, Shirley A. Frantz, Friendsville, Patsy L. Fulbright, Sebring, Fla., Linda F. Kirkland, Bothell, Wash., and Peggy L. Kinzey, Alexandria; one brother, Walter Wakefield Jr., Westminster; three sisters, Loveda Evans, Retha Humberson, and Mary Jones, all of Bruceton Mills, W.Va.; and five grandchildren.
Friends were received at the Newman Funeral Home, Friendsville, where a service was conducted Wednesday, Oct. 27, with the Rev. Robert Milliren officiating. Interment was in the Blooming Rose Cemetery.
MARTHA E. MIMNA
Martha Elizabeth Lydia Mimna, 69, Springs, Pa., and more currently a resident of the Goodwill Mennonite Home, Grantsville, died earlier today, Oct. 21, 1999, at the Meyersdale (Pa.) Medical Center.
Born Feb. 21, 1920, in Follansbee, W.Va., she was the daughter of the late Harry and Sylvia (Holt) Wakefield. She was also preceded in death by her husband, James W. Mimna, on July 25, 1997.
She was a member of the Springs (Pa.) Mennonite Church and had been employed as a cook in area restaurants.
Survivors include one son, Harry J. Mimna, York, Pa.; one daughter, Clara S. Mason, Grantsville; five grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
Friends will be received at the Newman Funeral Home, Grantsville, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. on Friday. A service will be conducted at the funeal home on Saturday, Oct. 23, at 10 a.m., with the Rev. Steven Heatwole officiating. Interment will be in the Addison (Pa.) Cemetery.
GEORGE W. LUNG
George William Lung, 75, Salisbury, Pa., died Saturday, Oct. 16, 1999, at Allegheny General Hospital, Pittsburgh.
Born April 17, 1924, in Salisbury, he was a son of the late Charles Frank and Maggie Margaret (Mitchell) Lung. He was also preceded in death by his first wife, Eva Jane (Hampe) Lung; his second wife, Anna Nannie (Hampe) Lung); four sisters; and one brother.
He was a member of the Cherry Grove Church of the Brethren and was a retired roads construction worker. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II.
Survivors include his wife, Mary (Patton) Lung; one son, George Franklin Lung, Berlin, Pa.; a grandson whom he reared, Barry Lung, Minnesota; one stepson, Randall Engle, Meyersdale, Pa.; five daughters, Linda Streng, Bessie Margaret Lung, and Nancy Jane Lung, all of Meyersdale, Gladys A. Wisseman, Salisbury, and Deborah Pearl Judge, Olympia, Wash.; one stepdaughter, Karen House, Stoystown, Pa.; two brothers, Harry Lung, Boynton, Pa., and Albert Lung, Salisbury; four sisters, Mabel Tressler and Jean Lung, both of Meyersdale, and Nellie Slayton and Elizabeth Meyers, both of Salisbury; 15 grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
Friends were received at the Newman Funeral Home, Grantsville, where a service was conducted Tuesday, Oct. 19, with the Rev. Daniel J. Whitacre officiating. Interment was in the Salisbury Cemetery.
Military rites were accorded at the cemetery by members of area veterans service organizations.
LESTER E. MOON
Lester E. 'Les' Moon, 70, St. Peters, Mo., died Saturday, Oct. 16, 1999, at his home.
Born April 14, 1929, in Terra Alta, W.Va., he was a son of Sarah Elizabeth Moon Spiker, Oakland, and the late Boyd Ernest Moon. He was also preceded in death by one brother, Fred L. Moon.
He was a retired plant manager for Rold Gold food, a division of Frito Lay, in St. Louis, Mo. He was also a member of the United Methodist Church of the Shepherd, St. Charles, Mo.
In addition to his mother, he is survived by his wife, Betty J. Moon; three sons, Roger L. Moon, Defiance, Mo., Terry L. Moon, Palmyra, Mo., and David S. Moon, St. Peters, Mo; one daughter, Patricia A. Peterson, Anaheim, Calif.; one sister, Betty K. Trickett, Oakland; and eight grandsons.
Friends were received at the Baue Funeral Home, St. Charles, Mo. A service was conducted at the United Methodist Church of the Shepherd on Tuesday, Oct. 19. Interment was in St. Charles Memorial Gardens.

MARVIN J. NOVALLIS
Marvin J. Novallis, 80, Thomas, W.Va., died Friday, Oct. 8, 1999, at Garrett County Memorial Hospital, Oakland.
Born Oct. 11, 1918, in Chaffe, he was a son of the late Peter and Nettie (Paugh) Novallis. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Friederike Novallis, in 1995; one brother; and one sister.
He was a retired coal miner and dock worker, and was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II.
Survivors include one son, Peter Novallis, Thomas; one daughter, Linda Fridley, Thomas; three sisters, Betty Lipscomb and Marie Smigel, both of Davis, W.Va., and Margaret Skotniski, Oakland; five grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
Friends were received at the Hinkle Funeral Home, Davis, where a service was conducted with the Rev. Paul Poerschke officiating. Interment was in the Rose Hill Cemetery, Thomas.
CAROL M. GEISLER
Carol M. Geisler, 65, Oakland, died Friday, Oct. 15, 1999, at the Goodwill Mennonite Home, Grantsville.
Born Nov. 14, 1933, in Cleveland, Ohio, she was a daughter of the late Frank and Julia (Petrolini) Mance. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Daniel E. Geisler, in 1985, and by one brother, Francis Mance.
She is survived by one daughter, Micki Brown, Steamboat Springs, Colo.; three sons, Jerry Geisler, McHenry, Daniel Geisler, Kensington, and Scott Geisler, Steamboat Springs; one sister, Marie Schirtzinger, Chillocothe, Ohio; two brothers, Roger Mance, Imperial, Pa., and Thomas Mance, Pittsburgh; and six grandchildren.
The body was cremated. A memorial service will be conducted at the Stewart Funeral Home, Oakland, on Friday, Oct. 22, at 11 a.m.

CORA I. BROADWATER
Cora Irene Broadwater, 98, Baltimore, formerly of Grantsville, died Wednesday, Oct. 13, 1999, at the Bayview Medical Center, Baltimore.
Born May 11, 1901, in Lacy Springs, Va., she was the daughter of the late Joseph and Josephine (Chambers) Stearn. She was also preceded in death by two husbands, Victor Broadwater and Lee Broadwater.
She was a member of Trinity United Church of Christ and was a homemaker.
Survivors include two daughters, Dorothy Saum, Harrisonburg, Va., and Jeanne Kimery, Baltimore; four grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and a number of nieces and nephews.
Friends were received at the Newman Funeral Home, Grantsville. A service was conducted at Trinity United Church of Christ on Saturday, Oct. 16, with the Rev. Raymond Brown officiating. Interment followed in the church cemetery.
