GEORGE J. KERINS
George J. Kerins, 83, Sherborn, Mass., died Friday, Oct. 8, 1999, at his home.
Born Nov. 15, 1915, in Pittsburgh, he was a son of the late George T. and Margaret (Murphy) Kerins. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Lucille H. (Houck) Kerins, and one sister, Marcella Kerins.
He was a 1941 graduate of Oakland High School and received his bachelor of arts degree in accounting from Rider College. He retired as the regional auditor of the Interstate Commerce Commission, Boston, Mass.
He was a member of St. Teresa’s Catholic Church, Sherborn, the Knights of Columbus, and the Lions Club. A U.S. Air Force veteran of World War II, he retired with the rank of lieutenant colonel and was a member of the American Legion and the 386th Bomber Group.
Survivors include three sons, Joseph Kerins, Upton, Gregory Kerins, Bolton, and Ralph Kerins, Sherborn; one sister, Dolores Truly-Thompson, Frostburg; one brother, James Regis Kerins, Bristol, Conn.; eight grandchildren; and one great-grandson.
Friends were received at the Stewart Funeral Home, Oakland. A interment service was conducted at the Oakland Cemetery earlier today, Oct. 14, with the Rev. Fr. Donald Parson officiating. Interment followed.
A Christian Wake service was conducted at the funeral home on Wednesday afternoon.
Military honors were accorded at the cemetery by members of the various veterans organizations in southern Garrett County.
MICHAEL R. BEITZEL
Michael Ray Beitzel, 51, Accident, died Saturday, Oct. 9, 1999, at his home.
Born April 15, 1948, in Accident, he was a son of Gladys M. (Beckman) Beitzel Breedlove, Accident, and the late William O. Beitzel.
He was employed as a stacker operator for Allegheny Wood Products, Hazelton, W.Va., and was a member of Rush Baptist Church. A veteran of the Vietnam Conflict, he was a member of Proctor-Kildow Post 71 American Legion, Oakland, and VFW Post 10077, Deer Park.
In addition to his mother, he is survived by his wife, Marilyn Ruth (Detrick) Beitzel; three daughters, Michele Lynn Beitzel, Kristy Lou Beitzel, and Trisha Marie Beitzel, all at home; one brother, William G. Beitzel Jr., Fort Ashby, W.Va.; and one sister, Sharon Lewis, Ridgecrest, Calif.
Friends were received at the Newman Funeral Home, Friendsville, where a memorial service was conducted Monday, Oct. 11, with the Rev. Steven Rose officiating. Military gravesite rites were accorded by area veterans service organizations at Mr. Beitzel’s family farm.
WALTER E. DAWSON
Walter Edwin Dawson, 83, Charleston, S.C., formerly of Oakland, died Sunday, Oct. 10, 1999, at the Central Carolina Nursing Home, Columbia, S.C.
Born Sept. 19, 1916, in Oakland, he was the son of the late Walter Wyatt and Lula Belle (Friend) Dawson.
He was a U.S. Navy veteran and a retired personnel director for the U.S. Government.
Survivors include his wife, Virginia (Rudisill) Dawson, Summerville, S.C.; one son, Wyatt Dawson; one daughter, Susan Stump, Red Lion, Pa.; and two grandchildren.
An inurnment service will be conducted at the Oakland Cemetery on Tuesday, Oct. 19, at 11 a.m., with the Rev. Roger Harrison officiating.
The Durst Funeral Home, Oakland, is in charge of arrangements.
WILLIE. N. LEWIS
Willie N. 'Bud' Lewis, 87, Oakland, died Sunday, Oct. 10, 1999, at his home.
Born April 7, 1912, in Crellin, he was the son of the late Alex and Virginia (Ours) Lewis.
He was a member of the Oakland Church of the Nazarene and worked as a plumber for A.D. Naylor and Sons for over 51 years. After retirement he continued his 60-plus years hobby of repairing Maytag washing machines. He was a retired member of the Oakland Volunteer Fire Department.
Survivors include his wife of 67 years, Mary M. (Gower) Lewis; one daughter, Betty M. Sell, Oakland; one son, William E. 'Sonny' Lewis, Lorraine, Ohio; one sister, Elsie Browning, Leavittsburg, Ohio; three grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
Friends were received at the Stewart Funeral Home, Oakland. A service was conducted at the Oakland Church of the Nazarene on Wednesday, Oct. 13, with the Rev. Art Evans officiating. Interment was in Garrett County Memorial Gardens.
PAUL M. MURPHY
Paul M. Murphy, 92, Shelby Township, Mich., formerly of Long Stretch, Garrett County, died Thursday, Sept. 2, 1999, in Shelby Township.
He was a son of the late C. Arthur and Corlista (Groghan) Murphy.
Survivors include one son, Donald Murphy, Rochester Hills, Mich.; and one brother, George Murphy.
A memorial service will be conducted at the Mt. Zion United Methodist Church on Sunday, Oct. 10, at 2 p.m., with the Rev. Richard Broome Jr. officiating. Inurnment will be in the Mt. Zion United Methodist Cemetery.
The Sowers Funeral Home, Frostburg, is in charge of arrangements.
HARRY R. RIGGLEMAN
Harry R. Riggleman, 90, Kitzmiller, died Thursday, Sept. 30, 1999, at Garrett County Memorial Hospital, Oakland.
Born Sept. 8, 1909, in Chaffee, W.Va., he was the son of the late Richard and Daisy (Rohrbaugh) Riggleman. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Anna (Lipscomb) Riggleman, and one son, Harold O. Riggleman.
He was a retired coal miner.
Survivors include one son, William G. Riggleman, Kitzmiller; one sister, Sue Ellen Tasker, Terra Alta, W.Va.; eight grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
Friends were received at the David A. Burdock Funeral Home, Kitzmiller. A service was conducted at the Hi-Way Assembly of God Church on Saturday, Oct. 2, with the Rev. Gail Hixon officiating. Interment was in the Turner Cemetery, Walnut Bottom.
NELLIE M. BONNER
Nellie Mae Bonner, 89, formerly of Frostburg, died Thursday, Sept. 30, 1999, at the Goodwill Mennonite Home, Grantsville, where she had been a resident.
Born May 23, 1910, in Augusta, W.Va., she was a daughter of the late John and Emma (Pownell) McDonald. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Glenn H. Bonner, in 1967; one sister, Beulah Detrick; and one son, Carroll Bonner.
She was retired from the Celanese Corporation and formerly worked at Pulse Communications, Falls Church, Va. She was a member of the Westernport Church of the Brethren.
Surviving are one daughter, Elaine E. Palmer, Brookville, Conn.; one son, Darrell E. Bonner, Marbury, Ala.; one sister, Goldie Housley, Marbury; nine grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
Friends were received at the Boal Funeral Home, Westernport, where a service was conducted Sunday, Oct. 3, with the Rev. Ervin Houston officiating. Interment was in the Philos Cemetery, Westernport.
MARY A. TROYER
Mary Ann Troyer, 82, Grantsville, died Friday, Oct. 1, 1999, at the Goodwill Mennonite Home, Grantsville.
Born April 3, 1917, in Ford, Kan., she was a daughter of the late Eli and Amanda (Slabaugh) Mast. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Harry Troyer, on Aug. 27, 1983.
She was a member of the Cherry Glade Mennonite Church, and volunteered at the Goodwill Mennonite Home.
Surviving are one son, William J. Troyer, Harrisonburg, Va.; two daughters, Carolyn J. Beachy, Cincinnati, Ohio, and Linda A. Miller, Grantsville; two brothers, Eli Mast, Bridgeville, Del., and William Mast, Lititz, Pa.; two sisters, Katherine Mast, Grantsville, and Emma Kipfer, Sarasota, Fla.; nine grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.

A service was conducted at the Greenwood Mennonite Church, Greenwood, on Monday, Oct. 4, with the Rev. John Mischler and the Rev. Clinton Yoder officiating. Interment was in the Greenwood Mennonite Cemetery.
JOHN W. GREATHOUSE
John William Great-house, 80, Cumberland, and more recently a resident of the Devlin Manor Nursing Home, died Saturday, Oct. 2, 1999, at Memorial Hospital, Cumberland.
Born April 6, 1919, in Waco, Texas, he was the son of the late Aaron and Amy Greathouse. He was also preceded in death by one son, John William Greathouse Jr.
He was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II. He was the former owner and operator of G&G Trucking, Baltimore, and was retired. He was a member of the Salisbury (Pa.) VFW, Grantsville American Legion, and the Grantsville DAV.
Survivors include his wife, Edith M. Greathouse; two sons, John Michael DeVore and Donald Ray DeVore, both of Cumberland; three grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
Friends were received at the Scarpelli Funeral Home, Cumberland, where a service was conducted Tuesday, Oct. 5, with the Rev. Timothy Monn officiating. Interment was in the Maryland State Veterans Cemetery, Rocky Gap.

DENNIS N. LOWERS
Dennis Neil Lowers, 68, Aurora, W.Va., died Thursday, Sept. 30, 1999, at Garrett County Memorial Hospital, Oakland.
Late Virgil C. and Iza (Kendall) Lowers. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Katherine (Baker) Lowers, in 1991.
Survivors include two brothers, Martin Lowers, Sterling, Va., and Robert Lowers, Pannasofkie, Fla.; and three sisters, Ruby Wotring, Aurora, and Wildean Lewis and Mae Cartwright, both of Terra Alta, W.Va.
Friends were received at the Durst Funeral Home, Oakland, where a service was conducted Saturday, Oct. 2, with the Rev. Billy Foster officiating. Interment was in the Pine Run Cemetery along the Aurora-Terra Alta Pike.
MAXINE M. CASTEEL
Maxine M. Casteel, 63, Friendsville, died Wednesday, Sept. 29, 1999, at Memorial Hospital, Cumberland.
Born June 10, 1936, in Friendsville, she was a daughter of the late Ronald and Anna (Hose) Lish. She was also preceded in death by two sisters, Laura Lager and Beatrice Loudis.
Survivors include her husband, Wayne M. Casteel, Confluence, Pa.; four sons, Ronnie Casteel, Confluence, Jimmy Casteel, Oakland, Michael Casteel, Bruceton Mills, W.Va., and Jeremiah Casteel, Friendsville; one sister, Grace Armour, Lake Wales, Fla.; one brother, Owen Dietz, Middletown, Pa.; and 10 grandchildren.
