Shirley M. B. Murray
FEDERALSBURG - Shirley Mae Blanchfield Murray, 44, died Saturday, Feb. 24, 2001 at the Memorial Hospital at Easton.
She was born March 1, 1956 in Easton, the daughter of the late Hughey Howard Blanchfield Sr. and Elsie Alberta Loller Blanchfield.
Mrs. Murray graduated in 1974 from Queen Anne County High School. She worked as a waitress and as a supervisor of Hess Gasoline Stations.
She is survived by her 11-year-old son, Brian Edward Murray of Federalsburg; five brothers, Howard Blanchfield Jr. of Notingham, Pa., Thomas Allen Blanchfield and Michael Paul Blanchfield, both of Preston, James Daniel Blanchfield of Charlottesville, Va. and William Arthur Blanchfield of Federalsburg and three sisters, Henrietta Knotts of Delmar, Ruby Rajchel of Crumpton and Patricia Ann Lewis of Cambridge.
A funeral service will be 2 p.m. March 1 at the Framptom-Hawkins-Eskow Funeral Home with the Rev. Howard "Buddy" Dunn officiating. Burial will follow at Concord Cemetery in Federalsburg.
Friends may call at the funeral home two hours prior to the service.
Serving as pallbearers will be Freddie Craig Jr., John Davis Sr., John Davis Jr., Mark Blanchfield, Jeff Blanchfield, Aaron Trice, Anthony Hill and Christopher Hill.
Melva A. Brittingham
SALISBURY - Melva Ann Brittingham, 69, died Tuesday, Feb. 20, 2001 at Peninsula Regional Medical Center.
She was born July 15, 1931 in Cambridge, the daughter of the late Melvin James and Mazie Kelly Wroten.
Mrs. Brittingham attended schools in Cambridge and graduated from Cambridge High School with the class of 1948. She started nurses training at Peninsula General Hospital and would have graduated in 1953. She gave up nursing to marry her husband of 44 years, Robert Russell Brittingham. He preceded her in death on Sept. 16, 1995. They were married Aug. 4, 1951.
She worked at Deers Head Hospital for 30 years, retiring in July 1988. During her employment there she went to the Community College of Baltimore and received her degree as Physical Therapy Assistant in 1975. She helped many people while working and after her retirement. She was an avid bowler, loved to cook and enjoyed her card club.
Mrs. Brittingham is survived by a daughter, Bobbi Ann Brittingham of Salisbury; a sister and brother-in-law, Dr. Paul and Charlene Stagg of Cambridge; a brother and sister-in-law, Robert "Sonny" and Faye Wroten of Cambridge; a special friend, Robert "Bob" Hickman of Salisbury; two sisters-in-law and a brother-in-law; a niece, Christine Gadow; and four nephews, Dennis Hurley, R. Kevin Hurley, Kelly Wroten and Kirk Wroten.
In addition to husband and parents, she was preceded in death by a daughter, Kathy Jane Brittingham.
A funeral service was held 2 p.m. Feb. 23 at the Holloway Funeral Home in Salisbury with the Rev. Ronald Meredith officiating. Burial followed at Wicomico Memorial Park in Salisbury.
Joseph Drugash
SEAFORD, Del. - Joseph Drugash, 87, died Saturday, Feb. 17, 2001 at Nanticoke Memorial Hospital.
Mr. Drugash was born in Luzerne, Pa., the son of the late Andrew and Mary Putprush Drugash.
He was the former co-owner of Nanticoke Cleaners in Seaford. Mr. Drugash was a WWII Army veteran retiring from the Army Reserves with the rank of Lt. Colonel. He was a member of the Virgil Wilson Post 4961 Veterans of Foreign Wars, Seaford, the Seaford Lions Club, and Chorus of the Nanticoke and Our Lady of Lourdes Roman Catholic Church.
He was a graduate of the Western Maryland College, Westminster, where he was inducted into the Western Maryland Sports Hall of Fame in 1988.
He is survived by his son, O. Don Drugash of Seaford, Del.; two grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
Mr. Drugash was preceded in death by his wife, Margaret Isabelle McWilliams Drugash in 1998.
A funeral service was held on Feb. 21, at Our Lady of Lourdes in Seaford.

Michael C. Harding
BROOKVIEW - Michael Clyde Harding, 23, passed away Sunday, Feb. 18, 2001 near his home.
He was born Oct. 27, 1977 in Easton, the son of Clyde S. and M. Leslie Helmer Harding of Brookview.
Mr. Harding was a 1995 graduate of North Dorchester High School. At the time of his death he was a heavy equipment operator with Harding Logging of Reid's Grove.
In addition to his parents, he is survived by one brother, Kevin S. Harding of Brookview; paternal grandfather, Howard Harding of Brookview and paternal grandmother, Betty Parks of Cambridge; maternal grandparents, Alex and Bette Helmer of Federalsburg; paternal great-grandmother, Elizabeth Harding of Reid's Grove; maternal great-grandmother, Elizabeth Helmer of Cordova.
A funeral service was held 2 p.m. Feb. 22 at the Zeller Funeral Home in East New Market with the Rev. Roy D. Collins officiating. Burial followed in the East New Market Cemetery.
Friends called 7 to 9 p.m. Feb. 21 at the funeral home.

Charles E. Dayton
VIENNA - Charles E. Dayton, 69, passed away suddenly at his home early Thursday morning, Feb. 22, 2001.
He was born Jan. 16, 1932 in Vienna, the son of the late Emerson Harrington and Ruby Hurley Dayton.
Mr. Dayton was a 1949 graduate of Vienna High School and upon graduation he entered the employ of the E. I. duPont in Seaford. From 1951 to 1953 he served in the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers during the Korean War. When he was discharged from the service he continued his employment at duPont and in 1990 retired as supervisor.
Mr. Dayton has served his community in many ways over the last 50 years. He was a member of the Vienna United Methodist Church and treasurer of the Vienna Heritage Foundation. He also held memberships in Cambridge Elks Lodge 1272, Dorchester Post 91, American Legion and Choptank Memorial Post 7640, VFW.
Mr. Dayton served as scoutmaster for Boy Scout Troop 187 for seven years and saw both of his sons become Eagle Scouts under his leadership. Mr. Dayton was a life member of the North Dorchester High School PTA and in 1964 his family was named Eastern Shore PTA Family of the Year.
For 52 years Mr. Dayton had been a member of the Vienna Volunteer Fire Company and was serving as president. During this time he had held many offices in his own company and for two terms was President of the Dorchester County Fireman's Association. He was a charter member of the Chicone Ruritan Club and had served as president and secretary of his club, and from 1993 to 1997 served as Delmarva-New Jersey District Governor.
Mr. Dayton was active in county politics as a Democrat having served on the Democratic State Central Committee and in 1986 was elected Dorchester County Commissioner, serving until 1990.
Mr. Dayton is survived by his wife, the former Joanne LesCallette, to whom he was married Feb. 6, 1951; one daughter and son-in-law, Leslie D. and Tom Schiff of Hurlock; two sons, Charles E. "Chuck" Dayton Jr. and his wife, Joy of Secretary and G. Benson Dayton and his wife, Beth of Eldorado; five grandchildren, Suzanne E. Dayton, Charlie B. Dayton, Margaret "Meg" Dayton, Katherine "Katie" Dayton and Kyle W. Dayton; one sister, Wanda Dillon of Cocoa, Fla.; one aunt, Delema Corkran of Plain Dealing, La.; and one uncle, Edgar Hurley of Blades, Del.
A funeral service will be conducted 2 p.m. Sunday at the Vienna United Methodist Church by the Rev. Mary Ann Farnell. Burial will take place in St. Paul's P.E. Cemetery in Vienna.
Friends will be received at the church 7 to 9 p.m. Saturday.

Armetta H. Webster
FEDERALSBURG - Armetta "Jeeter" H. Webster, 86, died Saturday, Feb. 24, 2001 at the Caroline Nursing Home. She was born Aug. 5, 1914 in Garland, N.C., the daughter of the late William and Florence Wallace Horrell. She graduated from high school in Garland, N.C. and then moved with her family to Morristown, N.J.
She married Thomas "Winnie" Webster Jr. on June 7, 1942. They moved to Federalsburg on June 7, 1942 where she was a homemaker.
She was a member of the Caroline County Extension Homemakers and was involved in the Caroline County 4-H activities for many years. She attended Union United Methodist Church and was active in the Circle of the Church. She was a former member of the Ladies Auxiliary of V.F. W. Post No. 5246 Federalsburg.
Survivors include her son, Thomas W. Webster III, Harrington, Del.; her daughter, Cheryl L. Webster, Seaford, Del.; three sisters, Callie Conn, Macungie, Pa., Sennie Simmons, Fayetteville, N.C., and Jeanette Mote, Wallace, N.C.; two grandchildren, Catherine Shufelt, Bolling Green, Ohio and Thomas W. Webster IV, Felton, Del.
She was preceded in death by her husband.
A funeral service will be held 11 a.m., Wednesday graveside at the East New Market Cemetery with the Rev. David Heistand of the Union United Methodist Church, Federalsburg officiating. Burial will follow the service.
Memorial contributions may be made to the donor's favorite charity in lieu of flowers.

Betty Ann Parker
CAMBRIDGE - Betty Ann Parker, 44, died Friday, Feb. 23, 2001 after a sudden illness.
She was born April 15, 1956 in Salisbury, the daughter of Richard Lee and Sarah Parker. She was a graduate of the Benedictine School and has lived in Cambridge for 23 years. She has worked in the dietary department of several nursing homes in Cambridge.
She is survived by her daughter, Christine Marie Chase of Cambridge; two sons: Bryan A. Parker and Richard H. Meek, both of Cambridge; two grandchildren: Christina Nicole Carter and Marie Chase; and a special friend, Ellis B. Meek of Seaford, Del.; her mother and step father, Robert and Sarah Charnock of Quantico; her sister Barbara Parker of Snow Hill; and two brothers: William Parker of New Jersey and Bruce Parker of Snow Hill.
A funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. Monday graveside at the Cambridge Cemetery.

Naomi L. Langfitt
CAMBRIDGE - Naomi L. Langfitt, 79, died Sunday, Feb. 25, 2001 at Dorchester General Hospital after a short illness.
She was born Oct. 9, 1921 in Madison, the daughter of the late Thomas Leonard and Mamie Ruark Frazier. She attended school at Madison. She married George W. Langfitt on March 8, 1941. She worked for a number of years as a seamstress at the Bogash Shirt Factory in Cambridge. She later worked in the dietary department at Mallard Bay Care Center. Mrs. Langfitt retired in 1982. She was a member of the First Baptist Church.
She is survived by her daughter, Laura L. Bugas of Salisbury; two grandchildren: Lindsay B. Pippin and Joshua B. Pippin both of Salisbury; her sister, Rosalie Moran of Cambridge; three nieces: Ruth Ann Shenton, Carol Clary and Brenda Gutiurez; a sister-in-law, Adith Frazier of Madison and numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a son, Thomas Langfitt and 11 brothers and sisters.
A funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. Tuesday at the First Baptist Church with the Rev. Randall T. Blackmon officiating. Burial will follow at Dorchester Memorial Park. The family will receive friends on Tuesday beginning at noon at the church.
Pallbearers will be: Charles Ruark, Michael Ruark, David Frazier, Woodrow Moran, Bryan Pippin and Lance Flack.

Oma Dennard Camper
VIENNA - Oma Dennard Camper, 96, died Friday, Feb. 23, 2001 at Mallard Bay Nursing Home in Cambridge.
She was born Jan. 17, 1905 in Vienna, the daughter of the late William and Sarah Davis Dennard. She worked for Campbells Soup Company and Cannery.
She is survived by her son, James A. Camper of Baltimore; her daughter, Clara Camper of Vienna; eight grandchildren, seventeen great grandchildren, and thirteen great-great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, James Allan Camper, five sisters: Clara Parker, Dora Cannon, Maude Thompson, Sarah Collins, and Myrtle Camper; and three brothers: Fred Davis, Phillip Dennard and Taft Dennard.
A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday at the Wesley United Methodist Church in Vienna with the Rev. Dianne Dixon officiating. Burial will follow at the Vienna Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the church beginning at 10 a.m.

Katie M. Hyser
DENTON - Katie M. Wooters Hyser, 78, died Saturday, Feb. 24, 2001 at Memorial Hospital in Easton.
She was born and raised in Preston, daughter of the late John W. and Willie Bramble Wooters. She graduated from Preston High School.
She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Skip and Joyce Pierce of Denton; a special niece and her husband, Don and Sharon Stepp of Severn; a granddaughter and her husband, Steve and Dawn Fluharty of Federalsburg; two great grandchildren, Ashley and Sean Fluharty; a brother, Raymond Bramble of Denton; two sisters: Bertie Parrott of Cambridge and Mildred Faulkner of Woolford and many other family members. She was preceded in death by her husband Charles Hyser, her sister Margie Altvater and brothers, Jacob Wooters, Johnnie Wooters and Walter Wooters.
A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday at the Frampton-Hawkins-Eskow Funeral Home in Federalsburg. Burial will follow at the Junior Order Cemetery in Preston. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Tuesday from 2 - 4 p.m. and 7 - 9 p.m.
