Marie B. Feddeman
BALTIMORE - Marie Brown Feddeman, 97, died Wednesday, Feb. 21, 2001 at the Mt. Sinai Hospital.
She was born Oct. 10, 1903 in Federalsburg, the daughter of the late Herman and Lula Gullette Wright.
She graduated from Federalsburg High School and attended Strayer Business College. She had been a budget analyst with the Maryland State Health Department until her retirement. She lived in Towson until nine years ago when she becam a resident of the Wesley Home in Baltimore.
She was the wife of Richard Feddeman who preceded her in death.
Mrs. Feddeman is survived only by nieces and nephews.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by three sisters, Hazel Collins, Barbara Love Denbow and Mildred Wright.
A graveside service will be held 1 p.m. Saturday at the Hillcrest Cemetery in Federalsburg with the Rev. David Heistand of Union UM Church officiating.
Funeral arrangements are being handled by the Williamson Funeral Home in Federalsburg.
Charles J. Newcomb
EASTON - Charles J. Newcomb, 79, died Sunday, Feb. 23, 2003 at the Memorial Hospital at Easton.
He was born July 7, 1923 in Baltimore, the son of the late E. Herbert and Margaret Turner Newcomb. He attended Baltimore Polytechnic Institute and began a career as a naval draftsman during World War II at Maryland Shipbuilding and Drydock.
What began as a childhood hobby became his life's work when he became a professional model builder in the 1950s. His ship and airplane models are displayed in many public and private collections including the Smithsonian Institute in Washington, D.C. Locally his work can be seen at the Chesapeake Bay Maritime Museum in St. Michaels.
Music played a large part in his life. Mr. Newcomb was a trained tenor vocalist and sang professionally in Baltimore before moving to the Eastern Shore in 1959. He was a charter member of the Chesapeake Choraliers and more recently a member of the Easton Choral Arts Society.
Mr. Newcomb is survived by his wife, the former Annette Foster, whom he married Jan. 12, 1946; a sister, Dorothy Clark of Mountain City, Tenn.; a sister-in-law, Florence Newcomb of Harrisburg, Pa.; a son, Leland Newcomb and his wife, Mary of Trappe; a daughter, Caroline Ball and her husband, Jim of Annapolis and four grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a brother, Herbert Newcomb Jr. of Harrisburg, Pa.
Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Friday at St. Mark's United Methodist Church in Easton. Friends may call at the Fellows, Helfenbein & Newnam Funeral Home, P.A. in Easton from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday.
Burial will be at Whitemarsh Cemetery in Trappe.

Novella J. Preston
DENTON - Novella Jackson Preston, 76, died Monday, Feb. 24, 2003 at the Memorial Hospital at Easton.
She was born Jan. 18, 1927 in Virginia the daughter of Luevenia Arrington Hamlin of Denton and the late Robert Hamlin. She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Son Preston.
Mrs. Preston was a domestic worker. She was a member of the Church of Christ in Preston. She loved cooking and entertaining.
Besides her mother, she is survived by two daughters, Sharon L. Preston-Johnson of Winterhaven, Fla., and Mary L. Sewell of Lake Whalers, Fla.; a son, William W. Preston of Baltimore; a stepdaughter, Idella L. Anderson of Gainesville, Fla., Federalsburg; 13 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; three sisters, Lillie Mae Smith, Clara Hamlin, Mary Bryant all of Baltimore; a brother, Robert Hamlin of Baltimore, and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by a sister, Delores Hamlin.
Funeral services will be held 1 p.m. on Saturday, at Framptom-Hawkins-Eskow Funeral Home in Federalsburg, with Brother Cook officiating. Burial will follow at Federal Hill Cemetery in Federalsburg. Friends may call at the funeral home on Friday from 6-8 p.m.
Josephine E. Thompson
BERLIN - Josephine Elizabeth (Sissy) Thompson, 64, formerly of Cambridge, died Thursday, Feb. 20, 2003 at the Peninsula Regional Medical Center in Salisbury.
She was born July 4, 1938 in Kent Island, the daughter of the late Earnest and Josephine Brown Thompson. She was educated in the public schools of Dorchester County and was a member of the Class of 1957 at Mace's Lane High School.
Ms. Thompson was employed for 22 years at Chun King (formerly RJ Reynolds and Nabisco). At the time of her death she was employed as a private sitter in Berlin.
During her lifetime she attended several churches. Ms. Thompson enjoyed reading her Bible and listening to gospel music. She also enjoyed spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren.
She is survived by a son, John Sampson Jr. of Cambridge; eight daughters and five sons-in-law: Deborah Thompson, Carolyn (Frederick) Christian, Josephine (Richard) Stubbs, Cheryl Sampson, Ernestine (Calvin) Bolden, Kennet (Kevin) Brown and Shandolyn Woolford, all of Cambridge and Donna (Gregory) Jackson of Atlanta, Ga. She is also survived by two sisters, Vivian and Carolyn Thompson, both of Suitland; four brothers, Ernest (Emily) Thompson of Linkwood, Cyril Thompson of Cambridge, Donald Thompson of Chicago and David Thompson of California; 22 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren and a number of nieces, nephews, cousins; two foster children, William Greene of Philadelphia and Tunisha Greene of Cambridge; foster parents, Ella Mae and Issac Downs Jr. and Harrison and Louise Chester; six foster sisters, Deborah Downs Stanley, Regina Downs, Margaret Stanley, Nancy Perry, Mary Brannock Camper and Mary Thomas; four foster brothers, Issac Downs III, Thurman (Gussie) Chester, Chris Hughes and Larry Sharp and a special friend, Melvin Small.
A funeral service will be held 1 p.m. Saturday at Bethel AME Church in Cambridge. Overseer Francis Bryant will officiate. Burial will follow in Bethel Cemetery.
There will be a viewing from 6-8 p.m. Friday at the Henry Funeral Home, P.A. in Cambridge.
Mario Persico
CAMBRIDGE - Mario Persico, 70, died on Saturday, Feb. 22, 2003 at the New York Methodist Hospital in Booklyn, N.Y.
He was born Aug. 15, 1932 in Vizzini, Italy (Sicily). At the age of 16, Mr. Persico started his own shoe business. He expanded to two locations until he decided to seek his fortune in America at the age of 20. He traveled by boat, arriving in New York City in 1955.
Mr. Persico worked in the construction industry in New York City during the 1950s, 60s and 70s. Among the projects that he contributed to were the development of JFK International Airport, the lighting infrastructure of NYC and the development of several highways connecting NYC to the suburbs. In the meantime he also had his own real estate investment company in New York City.
After 20 years he decided to change occupations and opened the first Rusticana Pizza in Brooklyn, N.Y. In 1981, after a trip to the Eastern Shore of Maryland, he and his family decided to move to the town of Cambridge. Shortly thereafter the first Rusticana Pizza of Cambridge was opened in the Shoal Creek Mall. As the family expanded so did the businesses, and at one point he had restaurants in Easton, Cambridge, Federalsburg, Seaford, St. Michaels and Preston. At the same time he continued to be an avid real estate investor.
After a brief retirement, Mr. Persico started Big Mario's Pizza and Entertainment Companies with his wife, Gina, and son, John.
Mr. Persico is survived by his wife, Gina Persico, whom he married on July 11, 1959; his children: JoAnn Genova of Easton, John Persico of Cambridge and Mario Persico Jr. of New Jersey; a son-in-law Tony Genova of Easton and a daughter-in-law, Laura Persico of New Jersey; his mother, Giovanna Persico of Vizzini, Italy; four sisters: Carmela, Vitina, Josephine, Laura and many nieces and nephews, who also reside in Italy; seven grandchildren: Anthony Genova, Vanessa Genova, Nicholas Persico, Christina Persico, Jonathan Persico, Marco Genova and Alexandria Persico.
He was preceded in death by his father, Giovanni Persico; a brother, Guiseppe and a brother-in-law, Michele Paterno.
Friends may call from 7-9 tonight at the Thomas Funeral Home in Cambridge.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at SS. Peter and Paul Church in Easton at 11 a.m. Wednesday. Burial will follow at East New Market Cemetery.

Mattie Wright
LAUREL, Del. - Mattie Wright, 95, passed away on Friday, Feb. 21, 2003 at the Peninsula Regional Medical Center in Salisbury.
She was born Nov. 23, 1907 in Cambridge, the daughter of the late Charles R. and Daisey Lee Sparrow Willey.
Mrs. Wright had attended schools in Cambridge. Some years ago she had worked at the Marvel Packing Co. in Cambridge and later had worked at several of the local sewing factories. Her husband, Herman Wright, passed away some years ago.
For the past 10 years she had made her home with her son in Laurel, Del. Mrs. Wright had been in failing health for the past month and had been a patient at the Peninsula Regional Medical Center for 20 days.
Her survivors include a son, Walter Wright and a daughter-in-law, Mary Wright, both of Laurel, Del.; two sisters, Louise Saunders of Secretary and Mary Kavanaugh of Farmington, Mich. and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by a son, James Wright and three sisters, Naomi Hubbard, Martha LeCompte and Elizabeth Hurley.
A funeral service will be held 1 p.m. Thursday at the Thomas Funeral Home in Cambridge with the Rev. George W. Wheatley Jr. officiating. Burial will follow at Dorchester Memorial Park.
The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday.
Marion R. Calder
VIENNA - Marion R. Calder passed away Monday, Feb. 24, 2003 at the Peninsula Regional Medical Center in Salisbury.
He was born in Baltimore.
Survivors include a daughter, Sharon Danner of Vienna and one grandson, Jason Danner of Charlottesville, Va.
A graveside service will be held noon Thursday at the Loudon Park Cemetery in Baltimore with the Rev. Mary Ann Farnell officiating.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Vienna United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 278, Vienna, MD 21869.

Jennifer Mills
EASTON - Jennifer Mills, 58, died Friday, Feb. 21, 2003 at the Memorial Hospital at Easton.
She is survived by three sons, Anthony Mills, Steven Mills Sr. and Steven Mills Jr.; a daughter-in-law, Melissa Mills; three brothers, Herbert Mills, Eric Mills and Glen Lewis Sr.; a sister, Angie Kellum and one sister-in-law, Jennie Mills.
She was preceded in death by a sister, Diane Mills.
Funeral services will be held 1 p.m. Thursday at the Union Baptist Church in Easton. A viewing will be held two hours prior to the service.
Arrangements are being handled by the Bennie Smith Funeral Services in Easton.
Rubin S. Riggins
EASTON - Rubin S. "John" Riggins, 79, passed away Monday, March 5, 2001 at the Memorial Hospital at Easton. He had been in failing health for the past year and had been a patient at the hospital for one week.
He was born March 16, 1921 at Golden Hill the son of the late Samuel Clifton and Vera Mae Wallace Riggins.
Mr. Riggins had attended schools at Lakesville and Crapo. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II and had served in the Asiatic Pacific Theater. After WWII he worked as a truck driver. Since 1947 he had been self-employed in trucking, operating several gas stations and was also in the restaurant business. He had owned and operated the Choptank Inn in Cambridge for a number of years, and later in Easton.
Mr. Riggins was a lifetime member of Choptank Memorial Post 7460, VFW; member of Dorchester Post 91 American Legion; past member of the Elks and Moose Lodge.
On Dec. 12, 1972 he married the former Mary Edith Keyes.
Mr. Riggins had been active in politics and had run for Dorchester County Sheriff some years ago.
In addition to his wife, Mr. Riggins is survived by a daughter, Pamela R. Brohawn of Woolford; three sons, R. John Riggins of Honolulu, Hawaii, Paul M. Riggins of Easton, Lindy H. Riggins of Rhodesdale; one stepson, Kenneth Scott Hughes of Madison; eight grandchildren, Jason Riggins, Lara Riggins, Ryan Riggins, Paul M. Riggins Jr., Tammy Riggins, Laurie Michele Riggins, Heather Marie Riggins and Michael Troy Brohawn. He is also survived by two stepgrandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren, Tiffany Pettit and Cody Pettit.
He was preceded in death by a sister, Pauline Fleming and a brother, S. Clifton Riggins Jr.
A funeral service will be held 11 a.m. Friday at the Thomas Funeral Home in Cambridge with the Rev. Carol L. Johnson officiating. Burial will follow at the Maryland Veterans' Cemetery at Beulah.
The family will receive friends 7:30 to 9 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.

Mildred H. Webster
WATERVIEW - Mildred "Millie" H. Webster, 75, died Friday, March 2, 2001 at the Peninsula Regional Medical Center in Salisbury.
She was born in Drawbridge, the daughter of the late Miles and Helen Marshall Lankford.
Mrs. Webster had retired from Woodward & Lothrop and was a member of the Nanticoke United Methodist Church. She volunteered at the Westside Food Pantry and the church thrift shop.
She is survived by her husband, James C. Webster Sr. of Waterview; sons, J. C. Webster and wife, Ruth Ann of Hebron and Robert Wayne Webster and wife, Wallett of Salisbury; brother, Gorman Lankford of Church Creek; four sisters, Gloria Frazier of Madison, Betty Dean of Hooper Island, Esther Fletcher of Key Largo, Fla., and Phyllis Willey of Atlanta; as well as four grandchildren; three great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
A funeral service will be held, weather permitting 2 p.m. today at the Messick Funeral Home in Bivalve. Burial will follow in Turner's Cemetery in Nanticoke.
Lucille S. Phillips
CAMBRIDGE - Lucille S. Phillips passed away Sunday night, March 4, 2001 at the Emergency Room of Dorchester General Hospital.
She was born in Cambridge, the daughter of the late Henry H. and Anna Sherman Phillips and was raised and attended public schools in Cambridge.
For 34 years she was employed at the Dorchester County Health Department as an X-ray technician, retiring in 1977.
Ms. Phillips is survived by two nephews, Robert Walker of Earlsville and Hank Phillips of Easton.
A memorial service will be held at some time in the future at the convenience of her family.

Mildred C. S. Smith
BALTIMORE - Mildred C. Scott Smith, 56, formerly of Cambridge, passed away Monday, Feb. 26, 2001 at Johns Hopkins Hospital after a brief illness.
She was born May 8, 1944 in Milford, Del., the daughter of Myrtle Nelson, formerly of Cambridge and the late Leon Scott of Milford, Del. and the stepdaughter of the late William Nelson of Cambridge.
Mrs. Smith attended public schools in Cambridge and graduated from Mace's Lane High School in 1962. After graduation she went to work at Bogash Sewing Factory until 1968 and also worked at Coldwater Seafood Corp. for a short time.
She was a member of St. Luke Methodist Church and was affiliated with other churches in the area before moving to Baltimore in 1971.
In Baltimore Mrs. Smith began her nursing career. She attended the C.C.B. Junior College in Baltimore, the Pikesville School of Nursing for 10 years and Elizabeth Cooney Agent Private Nursing for six years. She furthered her training at the Medix School in Baltimore where she became a medical assistant. She also taught at the Thurgood Marshall Middle School for four years.
On April 14, 1984 she married Phillip Smith of Baltimore. She was a member of Christ United Methodist Church in Baltimore where she served as an usher and sang in the choir.
In addition to her husband and mother, Mrs. Smith is survived by a brother, Leon Scott Jr., and one godson, Antwine Smith of Lincoln, Del.; two sisters-in-law, Shirley Smith and Gloria Smith and two brothers-in-law, Charles Smith and David Smith, all of Baltimore. She is also survived by four aunts: Margaret Jones, Ollie Bantum and Virginia Brisco, all of Cambridge and Marylee Thompson of Seaford, Del.; four uncles: Thurman Smith of Preston, Paul Brisco and Percy Bantum of Cambridge and Tommy Thompson of Seaford, Del.; three great aunts: Ressie Camper of Church Creek, Katherine Marine of Christ Rock and Emma Wilson of Cambridge and a number of nieces, nephews and cousins.
Mrs. Smith was preceded in death by a sister-in-law, Joan Smith; a father-in-law, Charles Smith and a nephew, Baron A. Jones.
A funeral service will be held 10:30 a.m. Saturday at the Christ United Methodist Church, 2005 E. Chase St., Baltimore with the Rev. Clarence Davis officiating.
The family will receive friends in the half hour preceding the service.
