Mildred E. B. Marousek
REID'S GROVE - Mildred Evelyn Bounds Marousek, 87, died at her home on Sunday, March 2, 2003.
She was born Nov. 23, 1915 in Baltimore, daughter of the late Irving P. Bounds and Carrie Fearson Bounds. Her family moved to Springdale when she was 15. She graduated from East New Market High School.
In August 1934 she married Albert Marousek, son of Joe and Katie Marousek of Secretary. Albert and Mildred had one child, a daughter, Ann.
They worked together for many years as dairy farmers and were married for 46 years when he died on July 8, 1980. They were members of Our Lady of Good Counsel Catholic Church in Secretary.
Mrs. Marousek is survived by her daughter, Ann Boyd of Dallas, Texas and more recently of Reid's Grove; a granddaughter, Nancy Boyd Chapman of Houston, Texas and one brother, Irving Bounds Jr. of Hurlock.
The family will receive friends at the Zeller Funeral Home in East New Market from 7 to 9 tonight where a prayer service will be held at 8:30 p.m.
A graveside service will be held 2:30 p.m. Thursday at Our Lady of Good Counsel Cemetery in Secretary.

Carolyn H. Sherman
HURLOCK - Carolyn Hubbert Sherman, 71, a resident of Chesapeake Woods for the past five years, died Monday, March 3, 2003 at Dorchester General Hospital in Cambridge.
She was born Dec. 24, 1931 in Williamsburg, the daughter of the late Edgar Hubbert and Sara Payne Hubbert.
Mrs. Sherman graduated from Hurlock High School, class of 1948. She continued her education at Towson State College receiving her teaching degree in 1952. She began her teaching career at Preston Elementary for six years and then at Hurlock Elementary for 11 years until she suffered a stroke in 1972 at the age of 40.
Mrs. Sherman was a former member of the Dorchester Teachers Association. She attended Unity-Washington United Methodist Church in Hurlock.
She is survived by her husband of 48 years, Allan Sherman of Hurlock; a son, Keith Sherman and his wife, Karen, of Raleigh, N.C. and a daughter, Christine Sherman of Rock Hill, S.C. She is also survived by a brother, Joe Hubbert and his wife, Margaret of Federalsburg; three granddaughters, Sara Sherman of Wake Forest University, Rebecca and Mary Sherman, both of Raleigh, N.C. and a niece, Chris Hubbert Bell and her family of Federalsburg.
Funeral services will be held 2 p.m. Thursday at the Framptom-Hawkins-Eskow Funeral Home, P.A. in Federalsburg. Burial will follow at Unity-Washington Cemetery in Hurlock. Friends may call at the funeral home from 6-8 tonight.

Stephen A. Wongus
HURLOCK - Stephen A. "Pal" Wongus, 73, died Saturday, March 1, 2003 at Chesapeake Woods in Cambridge.
He was born July 2, 1929 in Vienna, the son of the late Willie F. and Isabella Bowens Wongus.
Mr. Wongus was employed by the Dorchester County Board of Education as a custodian at the North Dorchester Middle School, retiring after 18 years of service. He was also employed at O. W. McWilliams for many years.
Mr. Wongus is survived by his wife of 43 years, Dorothy Potter Wongus; a daughter, Shiana Coleman of Rhodesdale; two sons, Anthony Macer of Milford, Del. and Stephen Macer of Salisbury; a stepson, Martin Potter of Hurlock; a granddaughter whom he raised, Teshonda Thomas of Federalsburg; stepgreat-grandson, Dajon Pittman of Hurlock; three brothers, Otho Wongus of Cambridge, Daniel Wongus of Rhodesdale and Eddie Ross of Baltimore; two sisters, Dorothy Baynard of Federalsburg and Ida Macer of Cambridge and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by four children, Lorraine, Sherlyn, William and Jeannie; granddaughter, LaSheka; three brothers, James, Willie and Charles and two sisters, Isabella and Dora.
Funeral services will be held 1 p.m. Saturday at Mt. Zion United Methodist Church in East New Market with the Rev. Elaine Ayers officiating. Burial will follow in Petersburg Cemetery near Hurlock.
Friends may call at the church from 6-8 p.m. Friday.

Carl A. Loeffler Jr.
REID'S GROVE - Carl Albert Loeffler Jr., 68, passed away Monday, March 3, 2003 at his residence.
He was born Sept. 6, 1934 in Baltimore, son of Evelyn Loeffler of Hurlock and the late Carl A. Loeffler.
As a young man, he was employed at Esskay Meat Co. in Baltimore. After his discharge from the U.S. Army, Mr. Loeffler returned to his former employer. In 1956 he moved to Cambridge and continued his employment with Esskay at Cordova. After his retirement, Mr. Loeffler worked for Tri Gas and Oil as a propane transport driver until 1998. More recently he worked as a driver for DDU.
Mr. Loeffler attended Souls Harbor Church of God in Cambridge.
In addition to his mother, he is survived by one son and his wife, Carl F. and Kathy Loeffler of Vienna; one daughter and her husband, Tina and Jeff Robbins of Rhodesdale; four grandchilden, Chad Loeffler, Charles Loeffler, Wayne Robbins and Jennifer Loeffler; three great-grandchildren; four brothers, Bill Loeffler of Baltimore, Ronnie Loeffler of Rock Hall, Dennis Loeffler of Lusby and Bill Williams of Baltimore; several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his father, he was preceded in death by his wife, Sally Joyce Loeffler, who died Nov. 27, 2001; and one brother, Larry Loeffler.
Friends may call from noon to 1 p.m. Friday at Souls Harbor Church of God in Cambridge.
Services will be held 1 p.m. Friday at Souls Harbor with Pastor J. Edward King officiating. Burial will follow in Maryland Veterans' Cemetery, Eastern Shore in Beulah.
Pallbearers will be Frank Wilson, Jack Morris, Ricky Rockwell and Ernie Paulette.

Burney Hollis Sr.
SALISBURY - Burney Lieutenant James Hollis Sr., 76, a retired truck driver for Interstate Trucking Company in Delmar and former general store owner in Vienna, died Wednesday, Feb. 26, 2003 at the Peninsula Regional Medical Center.
He was born June 13, 1926 in Vienna, the son of the late Eli "Boss" Hollis and Millie Pinkett Hollis. He attended elementary school in Dorchester County and the F. D. St. Clair High School in Cambridge.
In the 40s and 50s he sang in gospel quartets and was among the founders of the "Vienna Harmonizers" and the "Floods of Joy," which traveled the gospel circuit in the south.
For years Mr. Hollis worked for the Rending Co. in Linkwood, and in the 70s he operated Burney's Variety Store in Vienna. He retired from the Interstate Trucking Co. in 1997.
He married the former Dorothy Stewart of Vienna in 1946 and the former Consuelo White of Princess Anne in 1960.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Consuelo Hollis in 1997 and by two of his children, Dora Lee Sampson in 1975 and Richard Nathaniel "Ricky" Jones just 18 days before him on Feb. 8, 2003.
A viewing with the family will be held from 6-8 tonight at the Wesley United Methodist Church, 4904 Old Rt. 50, Vienna. Services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at the church. A viewing will be held at 10 a.m. prior to the service.
His survivors include six children, Carlotta McNeill, Della McNeill and Dr. Burney J. Hollis Jr., all of Baltimore, the Rev. Donald White of Durham, N.C., Dequata Nutter of Salisbury and Wilbert Hollis of Cambridge; three stepsons, Isaac White of Vienna, William Morris White of Virginia and Clifton Brittingham Jr. of Wilmington; four sisters, Selena Pinder of Linkwood, Inez Hollis of Baltimore, Valerie Demby and Marie Fisher of Cambridge; 17 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren and a number of nieces, nephews and cousins.

Margaret B. Lankford
VIENNA - Margaret Baltimore Lankford, 94, died Monday, Feb. 24, 2003 at the Dorchester General Hospital in Cambridge.
She was born in Vienna, the daughter of the late George and Adeline Baltimore. Her husband, Hayward Lankford passed away in September 1985.
Mrs. Lankford retired after 35 years from Coldwater Seafood of Nanticoke and Cambridge. She was also formerly employed with Breakers and Re-Do Motels of Ocean City.
She was a member of John Wesley United Methodist Church in Vienna.
Mrs. Lankford's survivors include two daughters, Linda Lankford of Vienna and Shauna Camper of Palm Cost, Fla.; two grandsons, Johnny Ronald Nutter Jr. and Clifton Lemar Nutter, both of Vienna; a special niece, Ruth McDowell of Nashville; a close friend, Mamie Jackson; a special cousin, Shirley Carr, both of Vienna; an extended family, Helen Williams of Georgetown, Del. and her sons, Glen, Timothy, Dennis, Chris, Vincent and Terrell, all of Camden, N.J.; five other nieces and two nephews.
A funeral service will be held 1 p.m. Monday at John Wesley United Methodist Church in Vienna where friends may call Sunday from 7 to 8 p.m. and on Monday from noon to 1 p.m. Burial will be in Mt. Pleasant UM Church Cemetery in Salem.
Services are being handled by the Jolley Memorial Chapel in Salisbury.
Mary B. Wheatley
CAMBRIDGE - Mary B. Wheatley, 77, passed away Wednesday, Feb. 26, 2003 at the Memorial Hospital at Easton.
She was born June 29, 1925 in Cordtown. She was educated in the Dorchester County Public School System.
Mrs. Wheatley worked for the Campbell Soup Co. in Chestertown until it closed and then Phillips Packing Co. until her retirement.
She was a member of the Tabernacle Gospel Singers in her early life and later joined the Family Tabernacle of Faith until her death.
In addition to her husbands, James Wheatley and Wooten Keene, Mrs. Wheatley was preceded in death by three sisters, two brothers and six nephews.
She is survived by a foster son, James Cropper of Cambridge; two stepchildren, Anthony Wheatley of Centreville and Veronica Stanley of Cambridge; three stepgrandchildren, Clentara and John Norman of Fruitland and Shyreka Ross of New York, whom she reared as her own. She is also survived by six great-grandchildren; a sister, Luzetta Major; a brother, Pastor Francis Bryant, both of Cambridge; a sister-in-law, Dorthea Bryant and a brother-in-law, Edward Major Jr.; nine nieces and five nephews, a number of other relatives.
A funeral service will be held 1 p.m. Tuesday at the Family Tabernacle of Faith Church. Pastor Francis Bryant will officiate. Burial will follow in Aireys Cemetery.
There will be a viewing Monday from 6 to 7 p.m. at the Henry Funeral Home, P.A. in Cambridge.
Henry E. Mundy
CAMBRIDGE - Henry Edward Mundy, 79, passed away Tuesday, Feb. 25, 2003 at his home.
He was born Nov. 2, 1923 in Hoopersville, the son of the late Levin Travers and Olivia Johnson.
Mr. Mundy attended the public schools of Dorchester County. His earlier working years were spent at Phillips Packing Co. and he later worked for Spicer Lumber Co. until his retirement.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Ronald Banks; three brothers, Walter Johnson, William Mundy and Warren Mundy; a sister, Lucy Mundy and a brother-in-law, James Travers Sr.
Mr. Mundy is survived by two sons, Ronald Wheatley of Baltimore and Lewis Wheatley of Atlanta, Ga.; a daughter, Drusilla (Clinton) Copeland of LaPlata; a grandson and two great-grandchildren; six sisters, Rita Travers of Cambridge, Anna Mae Perry of Washington, D.C., Lucille Mason of Seaford, Del., Pauline (Nathan) Molock of Vienna, Mary (Otis) Molock of Hurlock and Barbara Molock of Cambridge. She is also survived by two brothers, Herbert (Ella) Johnson of Cambridge, Bedford (Lucille) Johnson of Cambridge; several nieces, nephews, cousins and his extended family, Margaret Smith and her children and grandchildren.
A funeral service will be held 7 p.m. Tuesday at the Henry Funeral Home, P.A. with the Rev. Elsie Ennals officiating. Burial will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Old Field Cemetery.
There will be a viewing one hour prior to the services.
Robert W. Farkas
CHURCH CREEK - Dr. Robert W. Farkas, 84, formerly of York, Pa., died Saturday, Feb. 22, 2003, at Sinai Hospital in Baltimore.
Born Dec. 24, 1918, in York, he was the son of the late Dr. Herman Farkas and Paulene Silverman Farkas. He was an undergraduate at the University of Maryland College Park and a graduate of the University School of Medicine in Baltimore. He was an assistant resident and resident in obstetrics and gynecology at Sinai Hospital and a resident in psychiatry at McLean Hospital in Boston.
He served as the ship's physician aboard the U.S.S. Chilton in the U.S. Navy during World War II.
Dr. Farkas had a private practice in York for more than 40 years. He delivered more than 15,000 York children between 1940 and 1980. His medical practice inspired several younger doctors.
He was a member and diplomat of the American Board of Obstetrics and Gynecology, a fellow of the American College of Obstetrics and Gynecology, a member of the Pennsylvania Medical Society, a member of the York County Medical Society, an emeritus member of the Medical Alumni Association of the University of Maryland, a life member of the University of Maryland Alumni Associates, a life member of the Sigma Alpha Mu fraternity and a member of the Dorchester General Hospital Foundation. He was a former member of the Temple Beth Israel in York.
He is survived by his wife, Patricia Brown Farkas, of Church Creek; one daughter and son-in-law, Suzanne Farkas Stevenson and Scott Stevenson of Los Angeles; two grandsons, one sister, Josephine Farkas Newman of Boca Raton, Fla.; three nephews, Fredric Newman and Howard Newman of Manhattan, N.Y., and Bruce Newman of Atlanta and their spouses; six great-nieces and one great-nephew.
Burial will be held 1:30 p.m. March 9 at Prospect Hill Cemetery in York. A memorial service will follow at 2:30 p.m. at Temple Beth Israel. A Shiva will be held at 3:30 p.m. at the temple. Rabbi Irwin Goldenberg will officiate.

Phillip A. Blades
FISHING CREEK - Phillip A. Blades, 44, passed away at his home Thursday afternoon Feb. 27, 2003, after a lengthy illness.
Born in Cambridge on Sept. 8, 1958, he was the son of Charles Bradley and Jane Hughes Blades. He was raised in Cambridge and Fishing Creek and was a 1976 graduate of Cambridge High School.
For most of his life, he lived at Fishing Creek. He worked as a commercial waterman and was employed at the G.W. Hall & Son Seafood Co.
He was a former member of the Hooper Island Volunteer Fire Company.
He married the former Tina Creighton on March 31, 1994.
In addition to his wife and parents, he is survived by one daughter, Shelby Marie Blades; one son, Tristan Andrew Blades; one sister and brother-in-law, Julie and Gordy I. Dawson of East New Market; seven aunts, Marion Eaton, Jean Chance, Minnie Hall, Lorrie Willoughby, Phyllis Shockley, Evelyn Bloom and Elsie Jones; four uncles, John Blades, Mark Blades, Alfred Hughes and Sammy Hughes; and two nephews, Tyler Todd and G.J. Dawson.
He was preceded in death by one uncle, Guy Hughes.
A graveside service will be conducted 2 p.m. today at Dorchester Memorial Park. The Rev. A. Delmer Willey Jr. will officiate.
Pallbearers will be Robin Hall, Johnny Shockley, Bryan Hall, Garrett Luthy, Danny Luthy and Derrick Hall.
There will be no calling hours.

William O. Murphy
DELMAR, Del. - William O. Murphy, 55, passed away at Peninsula Regional Medical Center in Salisbury on Wednesday night, Feb. 26, 2003.
Born in Cambridge on Oct. 13, 1947, he was the son of the late Bernard Patrick and Madeline Hurley Murphy. He was raised in Bishops Head and was a 1965 graduation of South Dorchester High School.
He worked as a commercial waterman for several years and was a member of the Maryland State Police for 14 years. He later operated Top Gun Sporting Clays near Vienna. More recently, he has been self-employed
Mr. Murphy was an avid sportsman and outdoor enthusiast.
He is survived by three daughters, Bridget Murphy of Kentucky, Katelin Murphy of Sharptown, Del., and Crystal Disharoon of Toddville; three grandchildren, Logan Emily and Tyler Disharoon; his stepmother, Dorothy T. Murphy of Toddville; one sister, Patricia M. Jones and her husband, Robert, of Cambridge; one brother, John B. Murphy and his wife, Barbara, of Cambridge; one half-sister, Glenda M. Tolley and her husband, Martin, of Fishing Creek; one half-brother, Patrick T. Murphy of Trappe; one aunt, Annie Jones of Bishops Head; one niece, Kristin Nicole Tolley; two nephews, J. Scott Murphy and Greg Murphy; one great-niece, Abbey Mara Murphy; and one great-nephew, Benjamin Patton Murphy.
A funeral service will be conducted 11 a.m. Wednesday at the Thomas Funeral Home. The Rev. Leonard H. Wheatley will officiate. Burial will follow at Dorchester Memorial Park.
Pallbearers will be Martin Tolley, Tom Powley, Irvin Rippons Jr., Gibby Dean, Bobby Bayly, Scott Murphy, Greg Murphy and Brian Hall.

Kenneth C. Dean Sr.
HURLOCK - Kenneth "Buck" Carroll Dean Sr., 70, died Tuesday, Feb. 27, 2001 at Mallard Bay Nursing Home in Cambridge.
He was born Sept. 7, 1930 in Federalsburg, the son of Grace Carroll of Denton and the late Maurice Dean.
Mr. Dean had attended Denton High School. He was a driver for the Warwick Manor - New Beginnings.
He is survived by his wife, Rosalie G. Blann Dean of Hurlock; three sons, Ronald C. Dean of Hillsboro, Kenneth C. Dean Jr. of Vienna, Timothy A. Dean of Seaford, Del.; a daughter, Bonnie S. Safrit of Laurel, Del.; two stepchildren, Donna L. Howeth of Federalsburg and David E. Schultz of Bethlehem; 11 grandchildren; one great-grandchild; two brothers, William Dean and Norris Dean, both of Denton; three sisters, Ann Ball of St. Michaels, Ruth Hamby of Harrington, Del. and Sharon Clinton of Camden, Del.

Jackie Willey
CAMBRIDGE - Jackie Willey, 51, passed away Sunday, Feb. 18, 2001.
He was born June 29, 1949 in Cambridge, the son of the late Juanita Naomi Willey.
Mr. Willey was a lifelong resident of Cambridge and for some years had been employed at the Eastern Shore Hospital Center in the kitchen.
He is survived by two sisters, Sandra Rosetta of Florida and Patsy Mitchell of Felton, Del.; one brother, Charles Rosetta of California and his grandmother, Delia Bangert of Cambridge.
A memorial service was conducted at Bradford House on Feb. 24 by James A. Dayton Jr.
