Alton K. Marine
CAMBRIDGE - Alton K. "Al" Marine, 79, passed away Wednesday, March 19, 2003 at his home. He had been in failing health for several months.
He was born Oct. 15, 1923 at Vienna, the son of the late Benjamin and Jessie Wheatley Marine.
Mr. Marine attended schools at Eldorado and Vienna. On June 10, 1947 he married the former Sara Moore.
Mr. Marine had worked as a farmer for a number of years, and later operated his own tire shop in Cambridge. He also worked for Wise Oil & Fuel in Cambridge as a truck driver for 10 years and later operated his own produce stand on U.S. 50 near Cambridge. He enjoyed bowling and playing cards.
His survivors include his wife Sara "Betty" Marine of Cambridge; one daughter, Connie Travis of Golden Hill; one granddaughter, Monica Elzey; one grandson, David Travis; two great-grandchildren, Art King and Brittney Elzey, and several nieces and cousins.
He was preceded in death by two brothers, Wilton Marine and Thomas Marine.
A funeral service will be held 1 p.m. Saturday at the Thomas Funeral Home in Cambridge with the Rev. William K. George officiating. Burial will follow at the Brookview United Methodist Churchyard.
The family will receive friends on Saturday during the hour preceding the service.
Pallbearers will be Gary Willey, David Andrews, Billy Beckwith, Holly Smith, Otis Bramble and Porter Hopkins.

Rosalie Van Curen
SALISBURY - Rosalie Van Curen, 75, a former resident of Cambridge, passed away Thursday evening, March 20, 2003 at Peninsula Regional Medical Center after a lengthy illness.
She was the wife of the late Morris Van Curen, also formerly of Cambridge.
She is survived by three children: Jerry Van Curen and his wife, Judy of Cambridge, Jay Van Curen and his wife, Carla, stationed in Germany and Michelle Simpkins of Gulfport, Mis.; eight grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
Arrangements, which are being handled by the Holloway Funeral Home in Salisbury, are incomplete. A complete notice will appear at a later date.
Oneida Weeks
NEW CASTLE, Del. - Oneida Weeks, 90, passed away Saturday, March 15, 2003 in Christiana Care Wilmington Division Hospital.
She was born Dec. 7, 1913 in Onancock, Va., daughter of the late Maria and Walter Bailey.
She was educated in the Virginia school system. On Dec. 7, 1950 married Edward Weeks. He preceded her in death in 1987.
She was a member of Mt. Zion Pentecostal Holiness Church. She moved to live with her daughter in New Castle, Del. over two years ago.
Mrs. Weeks loved children and became a foster parent in 1957 and had given a home to at least 22 children before she retired from the foster care system in 1989.
She is survived by Levin Thomas Brown, Rosalie Carter, William Robinson, Ozell Robinson, Norman (Alvintine) Weeks, Angela (Yvetta) Weeks, John (Andrew) Johnson, Oneida (Cheryl) Collins, Gary Akins; a daughter-in-law, Alicia Johnson; daughters-in-law, son-in-law, sisters-in-law and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren and a number of cousins, nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held 1 p.m. Monday at the Greater Mt. Zion Pentecostal Holiness Church in Bethlehem where friends may call from noon to 1 p.m. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
Arrangements are being handled by Bennie Smith Funeral Home in Hurlock.
George J. Lindner
CAMBRIDGE - George J. Lindner, 96, passed away at The Memorial Hospital at Easton on Thursday, March 22, 2001. He had been in failing health for the past year.
He was born Sept. 7, 1904 in Cambridge, the son of the late Max and Gertrude Pohl Lindner.
Some years ago Mr. Lindner had worked with his brothers on the family farm near Cambridge. He later worked as a carpenter, first with the Dupont Co. until 1966 when he retired after 15 years of service. He later worked at the Eastern Shore Hospital Center as a carpenter for eight years when he retired in 1974.
Mr. Lindner was first married to Margaret Clough in 1936. She passed away in 1948. He was later married to Rosalie Johnson on Oct. 20. 1964. She passed away on Jan. 7, 1991.
Mr. Lindner had been an active member of the Cambridge Wesleyan Church for a number of years. For many years he had enjoyed woodworking and had made a number of things for the Cambridge Wesleyan Church.
He is survived by two sons, Kenneth E. Lindner of Salisbury and Arnold G. Lindner of Waynesboro, Va.; four grandchildren, Debbie Abbott of Hurlock, Sandy Warthen of Baltimore, Kathy Geeslin of Salisbury, Christopher Lindner of Newark, Ohio and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his wives, Mr. Lindner was preceded in death by two sisters, Elsie Brooks and Esther Schnoor and three brothers, Arthur Lindner, Henry Lindner and Emil Lindner.
A funeral service was held 2 p.m. Sunday at the Cambridge Wesleyan Church with the Rev. Barry L. Miller officiating. Burial followed at Dorchester Memorial Park.
The family received friends from 7:30 to 9 p.m. Saturday at the Thomas Funeral Home in Cambridge.

Cyril F. Jackson
SAVANNAH, Ga. - Cyril F. Jackson, 57, passed away Thursday, March 22, 2001.
He was born Feb. 16, 1944 in Cambridge, the son of the late Cyril Franklin and Stella Era Jackson.
Mr. Jackson had attended schools in Cambridge. On July 23, 1966 he married the former Violet Cornelia Smith. He had been a member of Cambridge Lodge No. 66 A.F. & A.M. since Oct. 17, 1988.
Some years ago he had worked as a pressman at Western Publishing Co. in Cambridge. Mr. Jackson had worked as a truck driver for most of his life. In 1975 he started working for Preston Trucking and later worked for Crown Cork & Seal.
In 1993 he moved to Savannah, where he worked for several local trucking companies. In 1995 he went to work for McKenzie Tank Lines as an over the road driver. He had retired in 1995. Since he had retired he had worked with his son on the water.
Besides his wife of Savannah, Mr. Jackson is survived by two daughters, Natalie M. Dawson of Robbins, Kimberly Jackson Holliday of Cambridge; one son, Darren A. Jackson and his wife, Dee Jackson of Savannah; three grandchildren, Nikki Dawson of Robbins, Jacob Jackson and Jody Jackson, both of Savannah; two sisters, Mary E. Moore and Louise H. Maguire, both of Cambridge; two brothers, William J. Jackson of Colorado Springs, Colo. and Phillip G. Jackson of Pompano Beach, Fla. and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Thomas H. Jackson and a foster mother, Geraldine Mowbray.
A funeral service will be held 1 p.m. today at the Thomas Funeral Home in Cambridge with the Rev. Doug Wooten and the Rev. D. J. Wooten officiating. Members of the Cambridge Lodge No. 66 A.F. & A.M. will conduct a memorial service prior to the funeral service. Burial will follow at Old Trinity Churchyard. The family will receive friends during the hour before the service.
Honorary pallbearers will be Marvin Parks, Glenwood Todd Jr., Richard Moore Jr., Joseph Moore and Jerol Don Moore Jr. Active pallbearers will be Allen H. Smith, John Pyle, Richard Moore Sr., Dr. Tim Carpenter, Terry Groves and Larry Bennett.
Robert D. Evans
CAMBRIDGE - Robert D. Evans, 75, passed away suddenly Saturday, March 24, 2001 at the Dorchester General Hospital.
He was born June 7, 1925 in Old Forge, Pa., the son of the late David and Margaret Harrison Evans.
Mr. Evans had graduated from West Pittston High School in 1943. He served in the U.S. Navy from 1943 until 1946 and had served in the Pacific Theater. On May 9, 1953 he was married to the former Clara Mae Messick.
Mr. Evans had received a bachelor's degree from George Washington University. In 1963 he joined the Fairfax County Virginia Public School System and later received his master's degree in education in 1967.
Mr. Evans taught school at George C. Marshall High School and retired as an Administrator in Adult Education in 1986. He had made his home in Cambridge since September 1986.
Mr. Evans was a member of the First Baptist Church in Cambridge, Friends of Blackwater National Wildlife Refuge; Dorchester Post 91 American Legion; Choptank Memorial Post 7460 VFW; Cambridge Lodge No. 1271 BPOE; U.S. Navy Armed Guard Veterans of World War II; National Education Association; American Industrial Arts Association and the International Technology Education Association.
Besides his wife of Cambridge, Mr. Evans is survived by two daughters and their husbands, Susan A. Evans and Ralph Boccarosse of Great Falls, Va., Patricia Evans Kreutz and James C. Kreutz of Herndon, Va.; seven grandchildren, Michael G. Fox, Laura Virginia Fox, Kristin Boccarosse, Karin Boccarosse, Andrea Boccarosse, Caroline Boccarosse and Elizabeth Boccarosse.
A funeral service will be held 1 p.m. Wednesday at the First Baptist Church in Cambridge with the Rev. Randall T. Blackmon officiating. Burial will follow at the Maryland Veterans' Cemetery at Beulah.
The family will receive friends 7 to 9 tonight at the Thomas Funeral Home in Cambridge.

William R. Marshall
HILLS POINT - William R. Marshall, 82, passed away early Monday morning, March 26, 2001 at his home. He was the husband of the former Doris Hubbard.
Mr. Marshall was born March 9, 1919 in Baltimore, the son of the late Robert Chaplain and Ella Condon Marshall.
Although born in Baltimore he was raised and attended public schools in the Neck District of Dorchester County. Mr. Marshall was a veteran of World War II, having served in the U.S. Navy from 1944 through 1946. While in the Navy he saw action both in the Pacific and Atlantic.
For most of his life, Mr. Marshall was a mechanic and was employed at the Eastern Shore Hospital Center in the maintenance department until retiring in 1982.
Mr. Marshall was a life member of Dorchester Post 91 American Legion and Choptank Memorial Post 7460 VFW. He was also a member of Spedden United Methodist Church and the Cambridge Power Boat Regatta Association.
He is survived by his wife, to whom he was married on Jan. 7, 1939; one daughter and son-in-law, Brenda M. and Robert L. Hurley Sr. of Hills Point; one son and daughter-in-law, William W. and Doris E. Marshall of Ragged Point; five grandchildren, William L. Marshall, Debbie Marshall, Teresa Hernandez, Robert L. Hurley Jr. and Danny L. Hurley; eight great-grandchildren, Casey Marshall, Megan Marshall, Billy Marshall, Debra Marshall, Carlie Marshall, Ellie Marshall, James Hurley and Josh Hurley; two sisters, Mildred Bradshaw of Cambridge and Betty McNamara of Ragged Point and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by a sister, Irene James and a brother, Capt. Walter Marshall.
A funeral service will be conducted 1 p.m. Thursday at the Thomas Funeral Home by the Rev. Gloria S. Attix. Burial will take place in East New Market Cemetery.
Friends will be received at the funeral home from7:30 to 9 p.m. Wednesday.

Frances M. Jones
EASTON - Frances Mary Jones, 82, died Thursday, March 20, 2003 at the Memorial Hospital at Easton.
She was born April 3, 1920 in Grasonville, the daughter of the late Harry and Louise Gross Thomas.
She was educated in the public schools of Queen Anne's County and worked for many years at Swift Poultry Co. until she became disabled.
Mrs. Jones attended Blessed and Free Church in Laurel, Del. She enjoyed attending the senior centers in Laurel and Seaford, Del. and Easton.
She is survived by a son, Donald Jones and his wife, Madeline Jones, of Seaford; three grandchilden, Donna Mathis, Hope and Donald Jones, all of Seaford, Del.; three great-grandchildren, Da'Ja Jones, Markala Mathis and A'ja Jones, all of Seaford; a sister, Adeline Jenkins of Easton, who is 103 years of age; a niece and nephew, who were also caregivers, Brenda Qualls and Kirk Bower, both of Easton; two nieces, DeShawn Chester of Cambridge and Osha handy of Pautuckett, R.I.; a nephew, Maurice Bowser of Easton and a number of other nieces, nephews and cousins.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by 11 of her 12 siblings and her husband, Ernest Jones.
A funeral service will be held 1 p.m. Saturday at the Henry Funeral Home, P.A. in Cambridge with Pastor Antoine Hutchins officiating. Burial will follow in Robinson's Cemetery in Grasonville.
There will be a viewing from 6 to 8 tonight at the Citadel of Hope Church in Seaford, Del. and one hour prior to the services on Saturday.
Nancy S. Anderson
CAMBRIDGE - Nancy S. Anderson, 75, passed away Wednesday morning, March 26 at her home.
She was born May 12, 1927 in Cornersville, the daughter of the late Baine and Edna Moore Mills. She was raised and attended public schools in Dorchester County.
Some years ago she was employed at the Cambridge Yacht Club. She later worked as an aide at the Glasgow Nursing Home and before becoming disabled in 1975 did private duty as a caregiver.
Mrs. Anderson is survived by three daughters, Terry Anderson of Cambridge, Nancy Pope of Ocean Pines and Amy Hopkins of Hurlock; two sons, David Anderson of Parsonsburg and W. Glenn Anderson of Cambridge; 20 grandchilden; 26 great-grandchildren; two sisters, Reba Hales of Salisbury and Mabel Bailey of Berlin and one nephew, Danny Burbage of Ocean Pines.
She was preceded in death by two brothers, Galen Mills and Edgell Mills.
A memorial service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Saturday at the Thomas Funeral Home by Nathan Wilson and the Rev. David Kreek. Friends will be received at the funeral home during the hour before the service.

As was her request, her body is being donated to the State Anatomy Board.
Robert G. Thompson Sr.
CAMBRIDGE - Robert Gregory Thompson Sr., 52, known as Gregory to many, passed away Wednesday, March 26, 2003 at the Dorchester General Hospital.
He was born April 30, 1950 in Cambridge, son of Ivy G. Stafford and the late Francis C. Thompson.
Mr. Thompson was a graduate of Mace's Lane High School, Class of 1969 and was employed at R. J. Reynolds until he became ill.
He was often in attendance at various churches. He was a member of the Dorchester Lodge 223, IPBOEW of Cambridge.
Besides his father, Mr. Thompson is survived by a daughter, Quondria (James) Lambert of Baltimore; a son, Robert Jr. (Latrell) Thompson of Baltimore; three sisters, Regina Thompson, Faustina (Frederick) Dennis and Tracy (Ricky) Lake, all of Cambridge; two brothers, Ivy (Wanda) Thompson of Sharptown, Charles Thompson of Cambridge; three granddaughters, Mykerah Cornish of Wilmington, Del., Britani Lambert and Destiny Thompson, both of Baltimore; two grandsons, Raekwon Thompson and Juquante Higgins, both of Baltimore and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
In addition to his mother, Mr. Thompson was preceded in death by his grandmother, Bertha Stafford and aunt, Ordith Stafford.
A funeral service will be held 1 p.m. April 3 at Bethel AME Church in Cambridge. Burial will follow at Bethel Cemetery.
There will be a viewing from 5 -7 p.m. Wednesday at the church and the family will be present the last half hour.
