Jo-Anne White
HURLOCK - Jo-Anne White of Hurlock died Friday, March 28, 2003 at Peninsula Regional Medical Center in Salisbury. She was 66.
She was born June 7, 1936 in Laurel, Del., the daughter of the late George Clayton Whaley and Fannie Burton Lowe Whaley.
She was a nurse's aide at the former Belle Haven Nursing Home in Hurlock, and had retired as a seamstress from Hurlock Sportswear.
She is survived by her husband of 51 years, Daniel Lee White; five children, Michael Lee White and Steve Curtis White both of Hurlock, Jo-Ellen W. Sampson of Trappe, Jack Richard White of Princess Anne, and Alan Clayton White of Hurlock; 12 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; one sister, Jean White of Bridgeville, Del.; a brother, Richard G. Whaley of Greensboro; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held today at 11 a.m. at the Framptom-Hawkins-Eskow Funeral Home, P.A. in Federalsburg, with the Rev. Derwin Lowe officiating. Burial will follow in Bloomery Cemetery near Federalsburg.

Dorothy L. Dulin
EASTON - Dorothy Lewis Dulin of Heartfields at Easton, died Friday, March 28, 2003 at the Memorial Hospital at Easton. She was 80.
She was born July 31, 1922 in Easton, the daughter of the late Percy and Catherine Taylor Lewis. Her husband, William "Gene" Dulin, preceded her in death.
She graduated from Easton High School. She had been employed at the Young Men's Shop in Easton and had retired from Vernon Powell Shoes in Easton.
She is survived by two sisters, Catherine Brown of Hurlock and Rebecca Dean of Quincy, Mass.; a brother, Percy "Buck" Lewis of Preston; several nieces and nephews; and a special great niece, Amy Fooks of Federalsburg, who was her care provider.
Services and burial in Woodlawn Cemetery in Easton will be private. Arrangements have been entrusted to Framptom-Hawkins-Eskow Funeral Home in Federalsburg.
Elizabeth B. Sydnor
CAMBRIDGE - Elizabeth Blake Sydnor, 87, died Thursday, March 27, 2003 at Chesapeake Woods in Cambridge. She was born April 12, 1915 in Dorchester County, daughter of the late Steven Blake and the late Rosie E. Blake.
Mrs. Sydnor received her early education in the schools of Bridgeville, Del. and her later education in the schools of Dorchester County. Her employment was with Coastal Foods for a number of years.
She was a member of St. Luke United Methodist Church and served as a member of Women's Society of Christian Service, Usher Board and the Pastor-Parish Relation Committee. She served faithfully as long as her health permitted.
Mrs. Sydnor loved flowers and tending her garden.
Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Willie Sydnor II; a son, Willie Sydnor III; four sisters; two brothers; and a daughter, Delores Rosemary Sydnor-Shelton, whose funeral took place Thursday in Martinsville, Va.
Survivors include four daughters, Rosetta (Calvin) Riley, Barbara (John) Harris, Rebecca (Fonda) Jackson, all of Cambridge, and Sarah Jackson of Valdosia, Ga.; a son, Donald J. (Carol) Sydnor of Cambridge; a daughter-in-law, Gloria Sydnor of Cambridge; 19 grandchildren; 38 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; two brothers, Charles Blake and Steven Blake, both of Cambridge; a sister, Maidie Stanley of Salisbury; an adopted daughter, Cleo Blake of Cambridge; an adopted grand-daughter, Judith Blake of Cambridge; and numerous other relatives and friends.
A funeral service will be held on Wednesday at noon at St. Luke United Methodist Church in Cambridge, with the Rev. Darlene Dixon officiating. Burial will follow at Bethel Cemetery.
There will be a viewing from 6-7 p.m. on Tuesday at the Henry Funeral Home.
Leonard W. Flowers
CAMBRIDGE - Leonard Webster Flowers, 71, of Cambridge and formerly of Hooper Island, died suddenly Saturday morning, March 29, 2003 at Dorchester General Hospital.
Born Sept. 15, 1931 on Hooper Island, he was the son of the late Vaughn Webster Flowers and Maude Pauline Parks Flowers.
On March 5, 1950 he married the former Phyllis Hughes.
Mr. Flowers was a member of Hosier Memorial United Methodist Church in Fishing Creek. He was also a member of the Cambridge Moose Lodge 1211.
Mr. Flowers was a self-employed waterman all of his life. He and his wife had moved from Hooper Island to Bonnie Brook two years ago.
Surviving besides his wife of 53 years, Phyllis Flowers of Cambridge, is a son Charles W. Flowers and his wife Donna of Hooper Island; Sherry Dean and her husband Jesse of Hoopersville; four grandchildren, Kelly Whitten Jr., Charles W. Flowers Jr., Candace McGlaughlin and Colt W. Flowers; four great-grandchildren, Cheyanne Flowers, Jessica Whitten, Kelly Whitten III and Jeffrey Whitten.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday at 2 p.m. at Curran-Bromwell Funeral Home, where the family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. Officiating at the service will be the Rev. A. Delmer Willey. Burial will follow in Dorchester Memorial Park.
Pallbearers will be Chuck Davis, Phil Todd, Randy McGlaughlin, Bryan Hall, Eddie Shockley and Morrie Hubbard.

Billy E. McGlaughlin
LAUREL, Md. - Billy E. McGlaughlin, 73, formerly of Cambridge and Fishing Creek, died Friday night, March 28, 2003 at Laurel Regional Hospital in Laurel, Md.
Born on May 19, 1929 in Fishing Creek, he was the son of the late Ronald R. McGlaughlin and Mabel Dorr Aaron McGlaughlin.
Mr. McGlaughlin was raised and educated on Hooper Island. He was a U.S. Navy veteran, retiring after 20 years of service. He was honorably discharged with the rank of Chief Petty Officer.
Mr. McGlaughlin then worked for Librascope, a division of Singer Corporation, as an electrical engineer. He retired after 20 years of employment.
Surviving is his wife, Joan A. McGlaughlin of Linkwood; four children, Gwen Carter and her husband Allen of Nanticoke, Yvonne Carroll and her husband Charles of Fruitland, Billie Jo Shockley and her husband Jeremy of Golden Hill, and Michael Edward McGlaughlin of Linkwood; two step-children, Lisa Gould and her husband Sgt. Major Scott Gould (US Army) of El Paso, Texas and Staff Sgt. Brain Boulter (US Air Force) of Okinawa, Japan; two sisters, Mary Blossom Creighton and Roberta Murphy and her husband Alton; a brother, Ronald R. "Junior" McGlaughlin all of Cambridge; seven grandchildren, Wendy Floyd, Billy E. McGlaughlin III, Christy Merritt, Robin Scholl, Beth Doyle, Kaitlyn Shockley, and Daniel Shockley; four great-grandchildren, Ella, Michael, Raniaha and Brandon; four step-grandchildren, Matthew, Brian "Bubba", Robert and Brianna; and several nieces and nephews.
Preceding him in death besides his parents was his son Billy E. McGlaughlin Jr., a brother-in-law Tom Creighton and a sister-in-law C. Lorraine McGlaughlin.
A memorial service will be held Tuesday at 11 a.m. at Curran-Bromwell Funeral Home. Officiating at the service will be the Rev. A. Delmer Willey.
Inurnment will follow at the Maryland Veterans Cemetery in Hurlock.

Mary V. Cephas
REIDS GROVE - Mary Virginia Jenkins Cephas, known by many as "Big Mary," formerly of Reids Grove, died Saturday, March 29, 2003 at Mallard Bay in Cambridge. She was 91.
She was born Jan. 7, 1912 in Cabin Creek, the daughter of the late James Issac Jenkins and Ada Mae Johnson Jenkins. Her husband, William Hooper Cephas Sr., preceded her in death.
She had retired from Bumble Bee Company in Cambridge. She was a member of Wallace Temple and was known for her excellent cooking.
She is survived by two sons, William Hooper Cephas Jr. of Easton and Nathaniel Cephas of Cambridge; nine grandchildren; many great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren; a brother, Roshelle Jenkins of Chester, Pa., and many nieces and nephews.
Preceding her in death were two children, Dorothy May Cephas Norman, and Rebecca Lee Jenkins Sample; two sisters, Catherine Jenkins Elbert, and Ada Mae Jenkins Davis; and two brothers, James Rudolph Jenkins and Charles Lester Matthew Jenkins.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, April 5, 2003 at 1 p.m. at Wallace Temple in Reids Grove, with the Rev. William Dent officiating. Burial will follow in Reids Grove Cemetery.
Friends may call at the church on Saturday from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Arrangements have been entrusted to Framptom-Hawkins-Eskow Funeral Home in Federalsburg.
Elsie M. Marshall
CAMBRIDGE - Elsie M. Marshall, 89, of Cambridge, passed away at the Chesapeake Woods Center early Sunday morning, March 30, 2003. She was the wife of the late Donald C. Marshall.
A funeral service will be conducted at the Thomas Funeral Home on Wednesday at 1 p.m. by the Rev. Douglas M. Ridley. Burial will take place in Dorchester Memorial Park.
Friends will be received at the funeral home on Wednesday during the hour before the service. Memorials may be made to Grace United Methodist Church, 501 Race St., Cambridge, MD 21613.
Lillian E. Stanley
CAMBRIDGE - Lillian Estella Stanley, 69, passed away Saturday, March 31, 2001 at the Memorial Hospital at Easton.
She was born March 30, 1932, daughter of the late Beulah Ryder-Molock and William Francis Molock.
Mrs. Stanley was raised in Dorchester County and received her education in the Cordtown Elementary School and the F. D. St. Clair High School.
Her employment years were spent working at Factory C (Phillips Packing Co.), Rob Roy Shirt Factory as a supervisor and as a cafeteria assistant at Cambridge-South Dorchester High School until her retirement in 1996.
Mrs. Stanley was a member of St. Luke United Methodist Church where she had served as Church School Superintendent and teacher, member of Young Adult Choir and New Hope Choir, United Methodist Women, The Willing Workers and a communion steward.
Her special hobbies were sewing and doing alterations, upholstering and catering.
She was preceded in death by her first husband, William Boddy Sr. and from this union seven children were born. On Feb. 11, 1978 she was married to James Stanley and their marriage lasted 23 years.
In addition to husband, Mrs. Stanley is survived by her children and their spouses, William Boddy Jr. and Mary of Sterling, Va., Paulette Cornish and Michael and Renee Cook, both of Cambridge, Lanny Boddy and Tina of Baltimore, Clifford Boddy and Cre'stre of Hampton, Va., James Stanley Jr. and Patricia of Landover, Rodney Stanley of Baltimore, Richard Stanley of Pennsylvania and Donna Stanley of Easton. She is also survived by 21 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; a brother, Elwood Molock of Atlanta, Ga.; a sister, Betty Overton of Philadelphia; an aunt, Geraldine Tubman of Cordtown; two brothers-in-law, Joseph Stanley and Benjamin Stanley; a sister-in-law, Betty Erving; two god daughters, Donna Stafford and Duanita Stafford-Norman; numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and the sisters and brothers-in-law of the Boddy Family.
In addition to her parents and first husband, she was preceded in death by two children, Larry Boddy and Lillie Mae Boddy ; a brother, James Molock and a sister, Lenora Lindsay.
A funeral service will be held 11 a.m. April 5 at the U nion Chapel AME Church in Cordtown with the Rev. Darlene Dixon officiating. Burial will follow at the Maryland Veterans' Cemetery at Beulah.
There will be a viewing from 6-8 p.m. Wednesday at St. Luke UM Church. The family will receive friends from 6:30-7:30 p.m.

Doris J. Horney
CAMBRIDGE - Doris Jane Horney, 77, passed away at the Dorchester General Hospital on Sunday, April 1, 2001.
Mrs. Horney had been in failing health for several years and had been a patient at the Mallard Bay Care Center for one week. She had been a patient at Dorchester General since last Tuesday.
She was born April 4, 1923 in Baltimore, the daughter of the late William Monroe and Clara May Talbot Horney.
Graduating from Kent Island High School in 1941 Mrs. Horney later attended Strayer Business College. She had worked at a number of locations as a bookkeeper and later worked as an executive secretary for the Aspen Institute for a number of years, until she retired in 1991.
She is survived by two daughters: Pamela Townsley Lowe of Delmar and Robyn Lowe Nottingham of Cambridge; three grandchildren, Geoffrey Lowe Nottingham, Rebekah Jensen and Ian Daniel Nottingham; one brother, Gerald L. Horney of Cambridge; one nephew, Benjamin M. Horney; four nieces, Cynthia L. Horney, Constance Johnson, Lisbeth Peterson and Sara E. Newton.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two children, who died in infancy and a brother, Charles Horney.
A memorial service will be held 11 a.m. Saturday at the Thomas Funeral Home in Cambridge witht he Rev. Dale L. Vroman officiating.

Norman A. Opher
CAMBRIDGE - Norman Alfred Opher, 85, passed away Sunday, April 1, 2001 at Mallard Bay Care Center.
He was born Aug. 5, 1915, son of the late Florence Opher and William Kane of Madison. He was raised by Bessie and Winnie Keene.
Mr. Opher was educated in the Madison School. He moved to Baltimore with his wife, Eliza where they resided with his sister, Hilda. Shortly after his arrival, he joined the United States Armed Forces for four years.
Upon his honorable discharge, Mr. Opher became employed by Maryland Dry Dock Co. and worked there for 40 years. At retirement Mr. Opher and his wife, moved back to Madison. There he enjoyed his love of gardening, odd jobs and home improvement.
Mr. Opher served as treasurer of the church's Trustee Board and manager of the cemetery. At any given time when there was a church activity, he could be found directing cars on the church parking lot. When the Malone UM Church closed, he joined St. Paul Church in Harrisville and attended until his health failed.
He is survived by three sisters: Hilda Opher of Baltimore, Helen Walker and Mildred Kane, both of Madison; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins and a close friend, Mildred Henry.
A funeral service will be held noon Saturday at St. Paul UM Church, Harrisville with the Rev. Wallace Greene officiating. Burial will follow at Malone Cemetery in Madison.
There will be a viewing preceding the funeral Saturday at 11:30 a.m.
The Henry Funeral Home in Cambridge is handling the arrangements.

Darlene Dixon officiating for Lillian Estella Stanley, 69, who passed away Saturday, March 31, 2001 at the Memorial Hospital at Easton. Gerald Orndorff
ROMNEY, W. Va. - Gerald Orndorff, 85, of 140 North Bolton St., passed away Tuesday, April 3, 2001 at the Hampshire Memorial Hospital in Romney.
Arrangements are incomplete at this time but a viewing will be held by the family today from 2-4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. at the Presbyterian Church in Romney. Graveside services will be private.

The Rev. Frost Jones
FEDERALSBURG - The Rev. Frost Jones, 78, died at his home Saturday, March 31, 2001.
He was born Nov. 7, 1922 in East New Market, the son of the late Norman Jones and Bertha Coleman Jones.
He retired from Allen Foods and was the Pastor of the Church of God of Prophecy in Hurlock for over 23 years.
The Rev. Jones is survived by his wife of over 56 years, Priscilla Tubman Jones and two children, Bobby Frost Jones of Cordova and Shirlene Mae Waller of Baltimore; three grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. He is also survived by three sisters: Gertrude Jones of Seaford, Del., Nettie Jones of Rhodesdale, Lucinda Jones of East New Market; three brothers: Norman Jones of Rhodesdale, James Jones of East New Market and Arthur Jones of Seaford, Del.
The Rev. Jones was preceded in death by two brothers, Walter Jones and Marshall Jones and one sister, Mary Jones.
A funeral service will be held 1 p.m. Saturday at the Church of God of Prophecy in Hurlock with the Rev. Kim Wells officiating. Burial will follow in Thompsontown Cemetery in East New Market.
Friends may call at the church 6-8 p.m. Friday.
