Mary F. Bloodsworth
WINGATE - Mary Frances Bloodsworth, 72, passed away Monday, April 16, 2001 at Dorchester General Hospital. She had been in failing health for the past 10 years.
Mrs. Bloodsworth was born Jan. 30, 1929 at Wingate, the daughter of the late Swain S. and Mary Elizabeth Robinson Parks.
She had attended schools at Wingate. On Oct. 13, 1945 she was married to Roger Wallace Bloodsworth.
Some years ago Mrs. Bloodsworth had attended Wingate United Methodist Church. She had worked at Powley's Seafood and also at Dorchester Crab Co.
Mrs. Bloodsworth is survived by her husband; three daughters, Sharon M. Paul of Seaford, Del., M. Lorraine Bloodsworth of Vernon, Conn., Janice C. Wilson of Cambridge; two sons: Roger W. "Bull" Bloodsworth Jr. and Michael Lee Bloodsworth, both of Cambridge; four grandchildren: Trisha Howett, Jeff Howett, Joey Bloodsworth and Michael Bloodsworth; three great-grandchildren; two sisters, Emma Robbins of Seaford, Del., Margaret North of Cambridge and one brother, Samuel Parks of Wingate.
A funeral service will be held 10 a.m. Thursday at the Thomas Funeral Home in Cambridge with the Rev. William K. George officiating. Burial will follow at the Parks Family Cemetery at Wingate.
The family will receive friends on Thursday during the hour preceding the service.
Pallbearers will be James Wilson, Steve Bloodsworth, John Bealefeld, Bernie Bergam, Jeff Howett and Joey Bloodsworth.
Christine L. Shobe
CROFTON - Christine Lucille Shobe, 86, formerly of East New Market, passed away Tuesday, April 17, 2001 at the Crofton Convalescent Center.
She was born April 22, 1914 in Hinton, W. Va., the daughter of the late Everett P. Allen and Leona Bell Neely Allen.
Mrs. Shobe was raised in West Virginia and graduated from Hinton High School in 1931 and Concord State Teachers College in Athens, W. Va. in 1933. After graduation, she began nurse's training at Sibley Memorial Hospital in Washington, D.C. and graduated in 1938.
She began her employment at Sibley Memorial Hospital until 1960 when she left to work at Prince George's Hospital where she remained until her retirement in 1972.
On March 12, 1939 she married John Edgar Shobe. Mr. and Mrs. Shobe moved from Cheverly to East New Market in 1974. Mr. Shobe passed away on Feb. 15, 1980.
She was a former member of VFW Post 7460 Ladies Auxiliary and Hurlock American Legion Post 243 Ladies Auxiliary. She was also a former member and past Maryland President of Fraternal Order of Eagles.
Mrs. Shobe is survived by two sons, John Edgar Shobe Jr. of Largo, Fla. and Lawrence Everett Shobe of Seminole, Fla.; one daughter, Leona Christine Gardiner of Howey, Fla.; four grandchildren; one great-grandchild. She is also survived by two brothers-in-law and two sisters-in-law.
A funeral service will be held 1 p.m. Friday at the Zeller Funeral Home in East New Market with the Rev. Shirley Evans officiating. Burial will follow at the Maryland Veterans' Cemetery in Beulah.
Friends will be received from 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home and also one hour prior to the service on Friday.

Susie M. Cottom
FEDERALSBURG - Susie Mae Simms Cottom, 71, died Tuesday, April 17, 2001 at the home of her son, John Cottom Jr., in Elwood.
She was born Oct. 17, 1929 in Bridgeville, Del., the daughter of the late Manship and Susie McDaniel Simms. She was preceded in death by her husband, John Cottom Sr.
Mrs. Cottom has worked for the Senior Center in Cambridge and was a foster grandparent for MRDC Federalsburg site for two years.
She was a member of the American Legion Blake Blackston Post 77. She was a member of Farmers Memorial Holiness Church of God in Christ in Jonestown.
Mrs. Cottom is survived by six children, Calvin (Wyneria) Simms of Jersey City, N.J., Bertha Mae (Edward) West of Davenport, Fla., Sherwood (Doris) Camper Sr. of Hurlock, Barbara (Bobby) Jones of Cordova, John (Shirley) Cottom Jr. of Elwood, Sherlyn (Orie) Cannon of Federalsburg; an adopted daughter, Lucille Wise of Cambridge; 14 grandchildren and a number of great-grandchildren. She is also survived by a brother, Noble Simms of Denton; two sisters, Mildred Polk of Federalsburg and Dorothy McCutcheon of Philadelphia; a great-aunt, Christina Lake of Philadelphia; a close companion, Russell Pinder Sr. of Hurlock and a close friend, Tommaine "TC" Palmer of Gaithersburg.
Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by a son, Bruce Cottom; a brother, Joshua Simms and two sisters, Elsie Simms and Edna Nichols.
A funeral service will be held 1 p.m. Saturday at the Farmers Holiness Church of God in Christ in Jonestown. Burial will be noon Monday at the Maryland Veterans' Cemetery at Beulah.
Friends may call at the Framptom-Hawkins-Eskow Funeral Home in Federalsburg from 6-8 p.m. Friday and one hour prior to the service at the church on Saturday.

Loren H. Conner
CENTREVILLE - Loren H. Conner, 89, passed away Tuesday, April 17, 2001 at Corsica Hills Nursing Home.
He was born Nov. 23, 1911 in Cooperstown, N.D., one of 13 children of the late Edwin Ellsworth and Rene Hazel (Carpenter) Conner.
Mr. Conner attended school in Cass County, N.D., and on March 23, 1940 he married the former Violet Madelyn Willert. He began farming in North Dakota and later moved east to work as a farm manager and cattle rancher at various farms in Maryland, Virginia and Pennsylvania until retiring in 1977.
Prior to and after retiring, Mr. Conner was active in 4-H and loved gardening and the outdoors. He moved to Ingleside and later to Centreville. Mr. Conner was a member of the Ingleside United Methodist Church.
Mr. Conner is survived by two sons, Barry Conner of Worton and Gene Conner of Falling Waters, W. Va.; three daughters, Rebecca Wright of Cambridge, Beth Delaney of El Cirrito, Calif., and Linda Blackstrom of Clay City, Ill.; two sisters, Mildred Burley of Finksburg and Ora Jean Wilhelm of North Dakota; and numerous grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife on Jan. 28, 2000.
A funeral service will be held 1 p.m. Saturday at the Fellows, Helfenbein & Newnam Funeral Home, P.A., in Centreville where family and friends may call one hour prior to the service. Burial will follow at St. James Cemetery in Worton.

Carmon M. Crowe
FEDERALSBURG - Carmon Marie Crowe, 74, died Tuesday, April 17, 2001 at the Memorial Hospital at Easton.
She was born May 10, 1926 in Starr, the daughter of the late Frank Thomas Faulkner and Carmon Roe Sullivan Faulkner. Her husband, Wilson George Crowe preceded her in death.
Mrs. Crowe was a home nurse. She was a member of New Liberty Wesleyan Church in Federalsburg.
Mrs. Crowe is survived by four daughters, Shirley A. Donovan-Ellis of Seaford, Dianna Donovan and Linda Hubbard, both of Federalsburg and Bonnie J. Bryan of Trappe; eight grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; two brothers, Donald Faulkner and Frank Faulkner; and one sister, Charlotte Mulligan.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by two sons, Wilson Lee Crowe and Robert Crowe.
A funeral service will be held 2 p.m. Friday at the Framptom-Hawkins-Eskow Funeral Home in Federalsburg with the Rev. Howard "Buddy" Dunn officiating. Burial will follow in Hill Crest Cemetery.
Friends will be received at the funeral home two hours prior to the service.
Bernet S. Foy
BOSTON, Mass. - Bernet E. Wongus Singletary Foy, 56, died Friday, April 13, 2001.
She was born Jan. 11, 1945 in Cambridge, daughter of the late Guy and Helen Pinder.
Mrs. Foy was a graduate of Mace's Lane High School. She moved to Boston, Mass., in her late 20s where she raised her six children. She married Norman A. Foy on Dec. 1, 1979.
In addition her husband, Mrs. Foy is survived by five children: Dennis Stanley, Cherylene Ryant, Ide Singletary, Darryl Singletary and Michelle Engerman; 12 grandchildren: Dion Craig, Jaccica, De'JA, Janelle, Javaun, DeShawna, DeAndre, Ikeem, Rushawn, Darryl Jr., Kimyarna and Brandon; a brother, Rudolph Wongus; sons-in-law, Craig Engerman and Burt Ryant; daughter-in-law, Curline Singletary; aunts, Bernice Young, Hester Sutton and Florinda Cephas; seven stepchildren, Dennis, Francis, Norman Jr., Georgia Maw, Steven, Shawn and Pam Foy and a number of stepgrandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins and other relatives.
She was preceded in death by a son, Troy Singletary.
A graveside service will be held 11 a.m. Friday at the Fork Neck Cemetery.
The family will receive friends 7 to 9 tonight at the Henry Funeral Home in Cambridge.

Edward H. Stephens
GEORGETOWN, Del. - Edward H . Stephens, 70, died Tuesday, April 17, 2001 at his home.
He was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force.
Mr. Stephens graduated from Rehoboth High School with the class of 1948. He then graduated from Temple Tech of Philadelphia with an associate degree in architectural drafting.
He worked for his father, Edward M. Stephens Contractor of Rehoboth Beach, Reese Smith as a drafting person in Georgetown and E. F. Quillen as drafting person in Rehoboth. Mr. Stephens retired in 1995 after 29 years with Delaware Power and Light/conectiv as a field man.
He was a committee member for 10 years with Boy Scouts of America in Georgetown, Troop 95.
Mr. Stephens began recreational painting with oils and watercolors around 1992.
He is survived by his wife, Joanne Clark Stephens of Georgetown; two sons, Curtis E. Stephens of Millsboro, Del., and Keith T. Stephens of Chandler, Ariz.; and five grandchildren: Hillary, Chase, Amanda, Jacob and Travis Stephens.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Edward Millard Stephens and Florence A. Laird Stephens and a sister.

William Horst
EAST NEW MARKET - William "Bill" Horst, 71, passed away Wednesday, April 16, 2003 at his residence.
He was born Nov. 29, 1931 in Easton, son of the late John and Mildred Silkworth Horst.
Mr. Horst served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. He retired from the U.S. Postal Service in 1994 after 20 years of service.
Mr. Horst was a member of the Cambridge American Legion Post 91, Federalsburg VFW Post 5246 and the Cambridge DAV, Chapter 31.
He is survived by his wife, Anna G. Horst of East New Market, whom he married on Sept. 11, 1955; one son, John W. Horst of Anchorage, Alaska; two daughters, Bambi L. Helmer of Hurlock and Patricia M. Rogers of Concord, N.C.; eight grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; one brother, Franklin Horst of Douglas, Ga.; three sisters, Doris Lomax of Easton, Gertrude Corddry of Ellicott City, Mildred Bramer of Abindgon and many nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by four sisters and two brothers.
A viewing will be held from 7 to 9 p.m. Monday at the Zeller Funeral Home in East New Market and on Tuesday from noon to 1 p.m.
Funeral services will be held 1 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home with the Rev. Dave Stewart officiating. Burial will follow in the Maryland Veterans' Cemetery, Eastern Shore in Beulah.
Pallbearers will be R. J. Helmer, Rodney Helmer, Mark Fleetwood, John Fleetwood, Bill McCabe and Lee Russ.

Vera F. Blann
EASTON - Vera F. Blann, 73, died Tuesday, April 15, 2003 at the Memorial Hospital at Easton.
She was born April 17, 1929 in Bozman, the daughter of the late James Thomas and Helen Radcliff Hutson. She attended school in Talbot County and then in 1946 she married Roland A. "Skippy" Blann Jr. They made their home in Talbot County. Mr. Blann died on Aug. 24, 1994.
Mrs. Blann was a member of the Ladies Auxiliary for the E. E. Streets Post 5118 VFW Easton, where she worked as a cook for 18 years.
Mrs. Blann is survived by a daughter, H. Frances Willis of Cordova; three sons, Roland A. Blann III, George P. Blann and Michael A. Blann, all of Easton; one sister, Phyllis Edwards, of Front Royal, Va.; one brother, Gary Hutson of Charlestown, W. Va.; eight grandchilden and 11 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held 2 p.m. Saturday at the Fellows, Helfenbein and Newnam Funeral Home, P.A. in Easton, where friends may call one hour prior to the service. Burial will be in Spring Hill Cemetery, Easton.

C. Lucille Cheezum
EASTON - C. Lucille Cheezum, 82, died on Wednesday, April 16, 2003 at the William Hill Manor.
She was born April 14, 1921, the daughter of the late Biery B. and Margaret M. Higgins Jefferson. A lifelong resident of Easton, she attended Talbot County public schools.
Mrs. Cheezum worked as a waitress until taking a position as a seamstress for Yale Underwear where she remained until retirement.
On May 9, 1947 she married Neavitt Cheezum. Mr. Cheezum died in July 1998.
She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Easton and also a member of the Women of the Moose in Easton.
Mrs. Cheezum is survived by two daughters, Sandy Robinson of Toddville and Suzanne Bowmaster of Easton; five grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a daughter, Robin Leonard on July 1995.
Funeral services will be held 10 a.m. Saturday at the Fellows, Helfenbein & Newnam Funeral Home, P.A. in Easton. Burial will be at Spring Hill Cemetery, Easton.
Friends may call at the funeral home from 7 to 9 tonight and Saturday one hour prior to the service.
