Maidie Blake-Stanley
SALISBURY - Maidie Blake-Stanley, 70, passed away Sunday, April 13, 2003 at the Peninsula Regional Medical Center.
She was born Nov. 27, 1932 in Bridgeville, Del., Sussex County, the daughter of the late Stephen Blake Sr. and Rosie Hollis Blake.
Mrs. Stanley received her education in the schools of Bridgeville, Del. and Caroline County and her late education in Dorchester County. Her employment was with the Dorchester General Hospital, sewing factory, foster grandparenting, and babysitting for her great-grandchildren.
Mrs. Stanley was a member of the Pentecostal Temple Church on Aireys Road in Cambridge and later The Great Commission Church of Christ on Jersey Road in Salisbury. She was the mother of her church, prayer warrior, advisory and councilor and she especially loved flowers.
Her survivors include one daughter, Regina E. Stanley of Delmar, Md.; three sons, Gary D. Stanley, Stevie O. Stanley and Larry D. Stanley, all of Salisbury; 14 grandchilden and 14 great-grandchildren; two brothers, Steven W. Blake and Charles W. Blake, both of Cambridge; as well as numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
Besides her parents, Mrs. Stanley was preceded in death by her husband, Russell Stanley Sr.; a son, Russell Stanley Jr.; five sisters and two brothers.
A viewing will be held from 6 to 8 tonight at the Bennie Smith Funeral Home in Salisbury.
Funeral services will be held 1 p.m. Friday at The Great Commission Church of Christ, 1714 Jersey Road, Salisbury. Burial will follow at Green Acres Cemetery, West Road, Salisbury.
Barbara P. Clements
RICHMOND, Va. - Barbara Pleasants Clements, 57, passed away Tuesday, April 15, 2003 after a lengthy illness at the Lexington Court Nursing & Rehabilitation Center.
She is survived by her mother, Marjorie A. Baumgartner of Vienna; her father, Edward A. Pleasants Sr. and his wife, Sylvia, of Richmond, Va.; her companion, John (Barry) Pace of Richmond, Va.; a daughter, Lorie C. Guardi and two grandchildren of Richmond, Va.; two sisters, Carolyn P. Graham and her husband, Skip, of Richmond, Va. and Kathy P. Edwards and her husband, Rick, of Vienna; two brothers, Thomas L. Pleasants and his wife, Arlene, of Rhodesdale and H. Ralph Baumgartner Jr. and his wife, Dale, of Vienna; a sister-in-law, Judith M. Pleasants of Sharptown and a number of nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, George D. Clements; her brother, Edward A. Pleasants Jr. and her stepfather, H. Ralph Baumgartner Sr.
Burial will be private.

Jerrold A. Pickett
FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. - Jerrold A. (Jack) Pickett, 43, passed away Sunday, April 13, 2003 at his home.
He as born Oct. 11, 1959 in Albion, N.Y., the son of the late John R. (Jack) and Joyce A. Pickett.
He was raised in Albion, N.Y. As a boy he enjoyed playing midget league baseball for the American Legion and Pop Warner Football. In high school, he ran cross-country and track and was on the wrestling team. He also enjoyed snow skiing, water skiing and golf.
Graduating from Albion High School in 1978, Mr. Pickett attended college at Alfred State in Alfred, N.J., majoring in accounting. After graduating he moved to Florida, residing in different areas of the state. There he met his former wife, Sonya Lee. They moved to Arizona, where they were married. A few years later his daughter, Keanna, was born. He recently built a new home in Flagstaff.
Mr. Pickett is survived by a daughter, Keanna Joyce Lee Pickett of Phoenix, Ariz.; a brother, John A. Pickett Sr. of Cambridge; a sister-in-law, Vickie Lynn Pickett of Cambridge; two nephews, John A. Pickett Jr. and Russell F. Pickett of Cambridge; an uncle, Theodore Schoonover of Albion, N.Y.; two cousins, Renee Colonna of Albion, N.Y. and Michael Schoonover of Arlington, Heights, Ill.; former wife, Sonya Lee of Phoenix, Ariz.; and a mother and father-in-law, Jane and Tom Lee of Scottsdale, Ariz.
A memorial service will be held April 26 in Flagstaff, Ariz.
Another memorial service will be held in Albion, N.Y. at a later date.

Donald J. Thamert
CAMBRIDGE - Donald J. Thamert, 72, passed away at the Memorial Hospital at Easton on Tuesday, April 15, 2003. He had been in failing health for several years.
He was born Sept. 30, 1930 in Minneapolis, Minn., the son of the late Milton and Helen Douglas Thamert.
Mr. Thamert had served in the U.S. Air Force in Korea and also in Vietnam. On Jan. 15, 1983 he was married to Dulcie Sheets Linthicum.
He worked at the Cambridge Wire Cloth Co. for 18 years and was a plant supervisor when he retired several years ago.
Mr. Thamert was a member of Dorchester Post 91 American Legion and also a member of the Cambridge Elks Lodge No. 1272. He attended Zion United Methodist Church in Cambridge, where he had also worked as a custodian for several years.
He was an avid reader, and enjoyed hunting and fishing and was a gourmet cook. He also did volunteer work at the Blackwater National Wildlife Refuge, as well as the VA Clinic in Cambridge.
Survivors include his wife of Cambridge; one daughter, Colleen Linthicum Simpson of Blacklick, Ohio; two sons, Richard L. Linthicum Jr. and his wife, Mary Linthicum of Abingdon and Craig S. Linthicum and his wife, Debbie Linthicum of Salisbury. He is also survived by six grandchilden, Taryn E. Moyer and her husband, Todd Moyer, Heather L. Simpson, Erika L. Linthicum, William C. Linthicum, Emily W. Linthicum, Carly R. Linthicum; one aunt, two nieces and one great-nephew.
A funeral service will be held 3 p.m. Friday at the Thomas Funeral Home in Cambridge with the Rev. Dale L. Vroman officiating. Burial will follow at Old Trinity Churchyard. The family will receive friends on Friday during the hour preceding the service.

A. Allen Hurley
PUCKUM - R. Allen Hurley, 60, passed away at the Peninsula Regional Medical Center in Salisbury late Tuesday afternoon, April 15, 2003. He was the husband of the former Karen Hulliger.
He was born Aug. 2, 1942 in Cambridge, the son of Louise Murphy Hurley and the late Leon Emory Hurley. He was raised in Vienna and Hurlock and was a 1960 graduate of North Dorchester High School.
Following graduation he served a four-year enlistment in the U.S. Air Force, during which time he was stationed in California, Texas and Alaska. When he was discharged he served as Constable for the Town of Hurlock and as a deputy for the Dorchester County Sheriff Department.
In 1966 Mr. Hurley was married to the former Rebecca Elliott, who passed away in 1969.
For 30 years Mr. Hurley has been involved as an automobile salesman for several area agencies and was currently associated with Preston Buick Pontiac GMC of Cambridge. Mr. Hurley was also currently serving as a Dorchester County District Court Commissioner.
Besides his mother, who resides in Hurlock, Mr. Hurley is survived by his wife, to whom he was married on July 19, 2001; one daughter, Charlene Wheatley and her husband, Chuck of Hurlock; three stepchildren, Shannon Hulliger of Easton, Curtis Hulliger of Federalsburg and Wendy Floyd of Hebron; one stepgranddaughter, Ella Floyd; two sisters, Suzanne Tyndall of Hurlock and Lisa Anderson of Seaford; two brothers, L. Dale Hurley of Sebring, Fla. and D. Keith Hurley of Hurlock. Also surviving are several nieces and nephews.
Mr. Hurley was preceded in death by a brother, Dennis Hurley.
A funeral service will be conducted 2:30 p.m. Friday at the Unity-Washington UM Church in Hurlock by the Rev. Ruth Tull. Burial will follow in Dorchester Memorial Park. Friends will be received by his family on Friday at the church during the hour before the service.
Pallbearers will be Clint Triplett, Eddie Howard, Kenny Hurlock Sr., Jim Merryweather, Donald Perry, Herbert Tall Jr. and Butch Willoughby.

Richard E. Fisher
EAST NEW MARKET - Richard E. Fisher, who retired to Cambridge in 1994, died on Friday, April 25, 2003. He was 76.
He retired in 1993 as Chairman of the Board of Performance, Inc., the business he founded in 1973. He was also President of Financial Stationers of Mid Atlantic and Surety off Premise Storage. Earlier he had worked as a Sales Manager for D. N. Owens & Co.
Mr. Fisher was born in Hampden on Jan. 22, 1927, son of William Edward Fisher and Kathryn Fisher (nee Merritt). He graduated from Baltimore Polytechnic Institute in 1945 where he served as President of the Student Body. He enlisted as Aviation Cadet in the U. S. Army Air Corps in 1944. After an Honorable Discharge in 1946 he attended the University of Baltimore and The Johns Hopkins University.
He served as President of the Baltimore Photo Guild, President of the Chesapeake Toastmasters, Director of the Maryland Yacht Club, Instructor and Lieutenant of the Patapsco River Power Squadron, Flotilla Commander of the U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary, Honorary Admiral of the Inner Harbor Baltimore, President of the National Business Forms Association (now the Document Management Industry Association). He was a national sales trainer and motivational speaker.
Mr. Fisher held a Captain's license in the U.S. and the Bahamas, delivering yachts to the Bahamas & the Gulf of Mexico. He owned and operated KingFisher Charters, Inc.
His hobby was fishing the Chesapeake Bay and deep sea fishing the Atlantic. After retiring to Cambridge, he belonged to the American Legion, Cambridge Yacht Club, Cambridge Power Squadron and was Trustee for the Lighthouse Baptist Church.
He was the father of the late Eugene W. Fisher and brother of the late Ruth F. Wooden.
He is survived by his daughters, Barbara Kaduk of Abingdon, Beth Gustaitus of Westminster, Leslie Marquez of Clovis, Calif. and his son, Richard E. Jr. of Myersville.
Memorial services for Mr. Fisher will be held at 1 p.m. on May 9 at the Lighthouse Baptist Church, Cambridge.
Bud Elzey
CAMBRIDGE - William T. "Bud" Elzey, 73, died at his home Monday night, April 28, 2003.
Surviving is his wife, the former Mildred Loretta Warfield; three daughters, Donna S. Adams of Linkwood, Deborah Lynn Brooke and her husband, Timothy of East New Market, Judy Ann Bramble and her husband, Glenn of Cambridge; a sister, Ethel Mae Hall of Colorado; two brothers, Levin Elzey and Roy Elzey, both of Cambridge; five grandchilden, Stacy Allison Adams, Benjamin Lane Brooke, Alexander Deane Brooke, Amanda Nicole Bramble and Matthew Thomas Bramble.

Virginia L. McCarter
CAMBRIDGE - Virginia Lee "Shug" McCarter, 81, passed away Saturday, April 21, 2001 at the Mallard Bay Care Center. She had been a resident there for the past three weeks.
She was born Aug. 13, 1919 in Cambridge, the daughter of the late Houston Malone and Florence Goslin Twilley.
Mrs. McCarter had attended schools in Cambridge, having graduated from Cambridge High School in 1936. She was married to Russell Lee McCarter in 1937. He passed away on Aug. 15, 1969.
For a number of years during the 1950s Mrs. McCarter had operated a store on Willis Street in Cambridge. She later worked at the A&P Store in Cambridge for 20 years until she retired in 1982.
Mrs. McCarter is survived by a daughter, Diana Lee Robinson of Cambridge; four grandchildren, Mark T. Riley and Russell H. Riley Sr., both of Hurlock, Carla J. Lewis of East New Market and Stephen M. Robinson of Linkwood. She is also survived by six great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; one sister, Rosalie Doege of Bucktown; one brother, Houston Twilley of Houston, Del. and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by two sisters, Thelma Carroll and Sophia Green and one brother, William Twilley.
A funeral service will be held 1 p.m. April 30 at the Thomas Funeral Home in Cambridge with the Rev. Randall T. Blackmon officiating. Burial will follow at Dorchester Memorial Park. The family will receive friends during the hour preceding the service on Monday.
Pallbearers will be Mark T. Riley, Russell H. Riley Sr., Russell H. Riley Jr., Mark Lewis, Stephen M. Robinson and Augustus Green.
Lillie I. Perdomo
CAMBRIDGE - Lillie I. Perdomo, 86, passed away early Thursday morning, April 26, 2001 at the Mallard Bay Care Center, where she had resided for the past seven years. She was the wife of the late Ralph B. Perdomo.
She was born Feb. 18, 1915 at Vienna, the daughter of the late Charles Jasper and Anna Moore Willey.
Mrs. Perdomo was raised and attended public schools in the Vienna area, but for most of her life made her home in Cambridge. She worked as a sewing machine operator for the Rob Roy Shirt Co. here and later was employed at the Eastern Shore Hospital Center. Mr. Perdomo passed away on March 17, 1988.
She is surived by two sisters, Evelyn Dayton of Hurlock and Mabel Lewis of East New Market; three nieces, Shirley Gray, Darlene Abbott and Connie Elzey and one nephew, James Dayton.
A graveside service will be conducted 1 p.m. Saturday at St. Paul's P.E. Cemetery in Vienna by the Rev. Ruth Tull. There will be no viewing.

James W. Abbott Sr.
TODDVILLE - James W. Abbott Sr., 60, passed away Wednesday night, April 25, 2001 at Dorchester General Hospital. Mr. Abbott had been ill since October.
Among his survivors are his wife, the former Diane Robinson.
A funeral service will be conducted 11 a.m. Monday at the Thomas Funeral Home in Cambridge by the Rev. Sonny Benton. Burial will follow in the Maryland Veterans' Cemetery at Beulah.
Friends will be received at the funeral home Monday during the hour before the service.

VIENNA - Lewis Andrew Jones, 65, died Sunday, April 22, 2001 at Dorchester General Hospital in Cambridge.
He was born in Reid's Grove, the son of the late David and Mildred Jones.
Mr. Jones retired after more than 35 years from the James Julian Construction Co. of Wilmington, Del.
He was a member of Zoar United Methodist Church in Reid's Grove.
Mr. Jones is survived by his wife of 43 years, Emily Jones of Vienna; five children: Anthony Jones of Los Angeles, Calif., Horace Jones and his wife, Vanessa of Hurlock, Waverly Jones of Sharptown, Vanessa Jones-Warner and her husband, Tony and Tabory Jones and his wife, Gwendolyn, all of Salisbury; seven grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; two sisters and three brothers: Dorothy Jackson of Vienna, Lula Parran and her husband, Hamilton of Prince Frederick, Charles Jones and his wife, Violiece of Hurlock, Ronald Jones and his wife, Carolyn of Reid's Grove and William Jones and his wife, Shirley of Cambridge; a sister-in-law, Lois Jones of Vienna and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by three brothers, James, Rudolph and Clifton Jones.
A funeral service will be held 1 p.m. Saturday at the Zoar United Methodist Church in Reid's Grove near Vienna where friends may call Friday from 6-8 p.m. and one hour prior to the service Saturday. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.

Milbert M. Chester
VIENNA - Milbert Manuell Chester, 89, died Thursday, April 26, 2001 at his residence.
He was born June 6, 1911 near Cambridge, the son of the late William Sylvester Chester and Annie R. Pinder Chester. He was preceded in death by his wife, Hilda Johnson Chester.
Mr. Chester was a farmer. He most recently was a barber in East New Market, Cambridge, and at his home.
He is survived by a daughter, Lena M. Whitfield and her husband, Robert of Indianapolis, Ind. and a grandson, Jason E. Whitfield of Indianapolis.
In addition to his wife, Mr. Chester was preceded in death by three sisters, Nora Wilson, Eva Chester, Emma Pinder and four brothers, Leon Chester, Elston Chester, William Chester and Irving Chester.
Funeral services will be held 1 p.m. May 1 at the Framptom-Hawkins-Eskow Funeral Home in Federalsburg. Burial will follow at Chester Cemetery in Rhodesdale.
Friends may call at the funeral home from 6-8 p.m. on Monday.
John D. Simmons Jr.
PRESTON - John D. Simmons Jr., 51, died Wednesday morning, April 25, 2001 at the Memorial Hospital at Easton.
He was born Feb. 12, 1950 in Baltimore, the son of the late John D. and Dolores T. Kline Simmons.
After graduating from Glen Burnie High School with the class of 1968 he worked at W. T. Cowans Trucking Co. and had worked for the Howard County Department of Highways for 16 years.
Mr. Simmons is survived by one daughter, Mary Simmons of Harmony; one sister, Denise and her husband, Phillip Peach of Choptank. He was the godfather to one niece, Dolores Peach and one nephew, Peter Peach, both of Choptank.
Mr. Simmons was preceded in death by his wife, Ruth A. Simmons, who passed away on Jan. 24, 1996.
Memorial services will be conducted 2 p.m. Saturday at the Faith Fellowship Church in Preston with the Rev. Buddy Dunn officiating. Burial will take place at Junior Order Cemetery in Preston at the convenience of the family.
