J. Clark Garing, Jr.
J.Clark Garing, Jr., 87, died on Friday, April 25, 2003.
He was born June 9, 1915, in Baltimore, the son of James Clark and Barbara Waddey Garing.
His family moved to Cambridge when he was 14 and he graduated from Cambridge High School.
As a young man, he went to work at the Phillips Packing Company can shop and learned the machinist trade under his father. Mr. Garing was later employed by the Cambridge Wire Cloth Co. where he worked until retirement.
He married the former Ethel Jones on June 12, 1937. She passed away on June 11, 1991.
Mr. Garing enjoyed bowling, reading and sailing.
He is survived by two daughters, Wanda G. Todd of Secretary and Barbara G. Hall of Cambridge; one son, James C. Garing, III of Berlin; seven grandchildren, Terry Todd, Tammy Hodges, Frank Todd, Jr., Tim Todd, Jennifer Leap, Jamie Dickerson and Jonathon Garing; three great grandchildren; one sister, Mary G. Jones of Cambridge, and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, William H. Garing and Robert L. Garing of California and two granddaughters, Tracy Todd and Loretta Todd of Secretary.
Funeral services will be private and burial will take place in the Jones Family Cemetery near Cambridge. Memorials may be made to Dorchester General Hospital, P. O. Box 439, Cambridge, Md. 21613.

Elsie E. Moore
CAMBRIDGE - Elsie E. Moore, 96, passed away Sunday morning, April 29, 2001 at Dorchester General Hospital where she had been a patient for the past two weeks. For the past seven years she has resided at the Glasgow Nursing Home.
She was born Feb. 2, 1905 at Golden Hill, the daughter of the late Samuel W. and Elizabeth Jarrett Moore.
Ms. Moore was raised and attended public schools in the Golden Hill area and for most of her life resided on Smithville Road. She had worked as a sewing machine operator at the Rob Roy Co. in Cambridge and retired in 1972 after 28 years. Since 1976 she has made her home in Cambridge and while she was able she worked as a "sitter."
Miss Moore was formerly a member of the WSCS of the Taylors Island United Methodist Church and the Auxiliary of the Taylors Island Volunteer Fire Company.
She is survived by one cousin, Isabelle Shelly and special friends, Donald W. and Mary Linda Gray, all of Cambridge.
A graveside service will be conducted 3 p.m. Wednesday at the Brick Churchyard at Taylors Island by the Rev. William K. George.
Friends will be received at the Thomas Funeral Home from 7:30 to 9 tonight.

Robert Lowther
FORT WAYNE, Ind. - Robert Lowther, died Tuesday, April 24, 2001 at his home here.
The Rimersburg, Pa., native retired in 1979 from MFG Boat Co. as the Midwest Regional Sales Manager afster 36 years of service. Mr. Lowther was well-known in boating circles.
Surviving him are his wife, the former Joan Berkley Shores, formerly of Cambridge; three daughters, Vicky Tyson of Colorado Springs, Colo., J. Fournet Sheehan of Knoxville, Tenn., Jana Le Borde of Fort Wayne; four sons - John R. Lowther of Columbus, Ohio, Wallace G. Lowther of Manheim, Pa., John W. Lowther of Lancaster, Pa. and Michael D. Lowther of Clearwater, Fla.; 13 grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
David A. Richardson
ABILENE, Texas - David A. Richardson, 42, died in Abilene.

Marion Z. R. Clennan
DENTON - Marion Zelda Riggles Clennan passed away on Thursday, April 17, 2003 at the Homestead Manor in Denton. She was 90.
She was born in Washington, D.C. on April 30, 1912, the daughter of the late Blair and Cecil Littleford Riggles
She married Harry J. Clennan, who died on Dec. 18, 1986.
She was a window dresser for department stores in the Washington, D.C. area and later the Salisbury area. She was a member of Saint Stephen's Episcopal Church in East New Market. She was a member of the Talbot Women's Club.
Graveside Funeral services will be held today at 10 a.m. at the Eastern Shore Veterans' Cemetery in Beulah.
Memorial contributions may be made in her memory to St. Stephen's Episcopal Church, Post Office Box 13, East New Market, MD 21631. Arrangements have been entrusted to the Framptom-Hawkins-Eskow Funeral Home in Federalsburg.
David Townsend
CAMBRIDGE - David Garfield Townsend died Saturday, April 19, 2003 at Mallard Bay Nursing Center. He was the husband of Evelyn Townsend and father of Linda and Vickie Townsend.

Gertrude V. Short
FEDERALSBURG - Gertrude Viola "Gertie" Short of Federalsburg died at the home of her nephew and his wife, John and Debbie Larrimore, in Hurlock. She was 92.
She was born Jan. 25, 1911 in Harmony, the daughter of the late Harry and Ella Selina Fishell Larrimore. Her husband, Earl Short, preceded her in death in 1971.
She attended Chestnut Grove School and was a poultry farmer. She also had
worked at John Wrights Cannery. She loved flowers and gardening.
She is survived by many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by a son, Ashby Amos Short, two brothers, Woodrow O. Larrimore and Elmer Larrimore, and two sisters, Virrginia Wimmer and Pearl Smith
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday at 2 p.m. at the Framptom-Hawkins-Eskow Funeral Home, P.A. Burial will follow in Hillcrest Cemetery in Federalsburg. Friends may call at the funeral home one hour prior to the service.

CAMBRIDGE - Patricia Alice (Pat) Merchant, age 65, of Cambridge, died at her home Saturday morning, April 19, 2003. She is survived by her husband, Donald Keith Merchant.

Robert M. Delano
FEDERALSBURG - Robert "Mark" Delano, 48, died Monday, May 5, 2003 at his home here.
He was born Jan. 13, 1955 in Warner Robbins, Ga., the son of Margaret D. Delano of East New Market and the late Mark Delano.
Mr. Delano drove a truck for most of his life. He last worked for Rigs-A-Rollin Trucking until his health failed. His hobbies included his family life at home and model cars.
He is survived by his wife of 30 years, Jo Ann Gore Delano of Federalsburg; three daughters, Kimberly Delano of Federalsburg, Kelly and Nicki Delano, both of Seaford; a grandson, who he raised as his son, Joshua Delano and a granddaughter, Jazmyn Delano; three sisters, Valarie Mahlbachor of Clayton, Del., Terry Williamson of Williamsburg and Robin Brooks of East New Market; three brothers, Mickey Delano Sr. of Federalsburg, M. Andy Delano Sr. of East New Market and Randy H. Delano of Seaford and several aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held 1 p.m. Friday at the Framptom-Hawkins-Eskow Funeral Home, P.A., in Federalsburg. Burial will follow at Bloomery Cemetery in Smithville. Friends may call at the funeral home from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Friday.

Richard O. Murrell
TOWSON - On Wednesday, April 30, 2003 Richard Orville (Dick) Murrell passed away.
He was the son of Orville Murrell and Norma Phillips Murrell, formerly of Hooper Island.
Mr. Murrell is survived by a son, Mike and his wife, Lisa Murrell of Boise, Idaho and numerous relatives in this area.
His funeral was held May 3 at the Rucks Funeral Home in Towson. Burial was private.

John Sanson Sr.
HURLOCK - John Sanson Sr., 62, passed away Monday, May 5, 2003 at his residence.
He was born Nov. 8, 1940 in Kentucky, son of the late Raleigh William Sanson and Rose Brooks Sanson.
Mr. Sanson is survived by two sons, John Sanson Jr. of Columbus, Ohio and Jonathan Sanson Sr. of Federalsburg; one daughter, Brenda Gibson of Hurlock and seven grandchildren..
Friends may call from 5:30 to 7:30 tonight at the Zeller Funeral Home in East New Market.

Ruth R. R. Roth
WESTMINSTER - Ruth Roop Rinehart Roth, 92, formerly of Loysville, died Sunday afternoon, May 4, 2003 at the Brethren Home Community in New Oxford, Pa., where she had been a resident since 1997.
She was born Nov. 3, 1910 on the Roop Homestead near Westminster, the daughter of the late Rev. William E. Roop and Annie C. Bucher Roop. Twice widowed, she was the wife of the late Carroll S. Rinehart, who died on Jan. 15, 1957 and David E. Roth, who died on Jan. 19, 1993.
Mrs. Roth was a life member of Meadow Branch Church of the Brethren and a 1927 graduate of Westminster High School. She also graduated from Western Maryland College in 1931 and from the University of Maryland in 1952, with a M.Ed. plus 60 hours.
She began a long education career in 1931 as a teacher at Towson High, 5th District School, Catonsville High, New Windsor High and Westminster High School and continued as a guidance counselor at Milford Mill High, Lansdowne High and then retired from Pikesville Senior High School in 1975, after 33 years in education. As Dean of Student Personnel from 1957-1963 she helped to establish Catonsville Community College.
From 1939-1948 Mrs. Roth left education to co-found and managed the Westminster Co-op. She belonged to many professional organizations including being a life member of the Carroll County Historical Society, Roop-Royer Reunion, Carroll County Genealogical Society, Carroll County Farm Bureau, Planning Group No. 1, and was a member of DKG, Omicron Chapter.
Mrs. Roth served on boards at Perry Health Center, Fahreny-Keedy Home, On Earth Peace Assembly and at the New Oxford Brethren Home Community.
During her lifetime she was very active in promoting international peace through the Church of the Brethren, ecumenical churches and work camps. She served in various capacities for the Church of The Brethren, one of which was as one of the first female moderators. In her later life she participated in six "People to People" tours promoting international goodwill.
Mrs. Roth is survived by five nieces and nephews: Ethel R. Bohn of Arbutus, Joyce R. Fowler of Springfield, Pa., Joan "Josie" R. Metcalf of Westminster, Harry I. Rinehart Jr. of Vienna and Robert C. Rinehart of Ellicott City; great-nieces and nephews: Edward K, Eric K. and Jocelyn A. Fowler, Matthew D. Metcalf, Emily M. Soriano, Cheryl S. Rinehart, Anne E. Rinehart, Dan T. Rinehart and Dave T. Rinehart; stepchildren, Ruth R. Bolze and Marie R. Gray of Loysville, Pa. and David E. Roth Jr. of Blain, Pa. Also surviving are six nieces and nephews; 19 great-nieces and nephews and many great-great-nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by brothers, Earl and John Roop and sisters, Lavinia Wenger, Helen Rinehart and Ethel Roop.
Funeral services will be held 1 p.m. Saturday from Meadow Branch Church of the Brethren with the Revs. Joseph C. Hendricks and John Layman officiating. Burial will follow in Meadow Branch Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 2-4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. Friday at the Myers-Durboraw Funeral Home in Westminster and on Saturday from noon until the time of the service at the church.

Robert E. Beck
CAMBRDIGE - Robert Elwood (Bob) Beck, 82, of Cambridge and Crapo, died early Monday morning, May 5, 2003 at Dorchester General Hospital.
He was born on Aug. 7, 1920 in Washington, D.C., the son of the late James and Ruth Howell Beck.
Mr. Beck's military career was quite extensive and interesting. In 1939, he became a member of the 260th Anti Aircraft Regiment of the Washington, D.C. National Guard. In 1941 the Regiment was activated and went to Fort Bliss, Texas, where he volunteered for the 82nd Airborne Division assigned to the 325th Glider Infantry Regiment. He served in WWII in the 325th and was one of the original leaders for the Pathfinders 82nd Airborne which was established Dec. 15, 1947.
During World War II, his Regiment came upon the Wobbelin Concentration Camp, a starvation camp, and freed prisoners. He jumped from every type aircraft known to the "Airborne Circles" more than 234 times. As color Sergeant, he has carried the colors at several 82nd Conventions, Presidential Inauguration at Washington, D.C., American Legion Convention at Miami, Fla. and many major cities throughout Eastern United States.
Mr. Beck was a Sergeant First Class in the Army, Pathfinder, Century Club Member, Division Color Sergeant, holder of the Bronze Star and Combat Infantry Badge. For many years, he participated as one of the flag bearers that marched to the Amphitheater in Arlington at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier, Wreath Lays at numerous Airborne sites within Arlington National Cemetery. The 82nd Airborne Association was the first to honor women in the military.
Mr. Beck participated in the 50-year anniversary of D Day at St. Mere Neglise, France. He also celebrated the 5O year anniversary of Rabbi Berkowitz of Falls Church, Va., a commemoration from the release from the Wobbelin Concentration Camp.
Besides his military career, he was a co-owner of a deli-liquor store and was a dedicated volunteer. Mr. Beck has been a resident of Dorchester County since the late 1960s. For over 23 years he enjoyed volunteering in elder care. He quickly became family to the Pleasant Day Adult Care Center, where he volunteered assisting in many capacities since their opening in 1987. His family at Pleasant Day nominated him for Dorchester's Most Beautiful Person, an honor he won in 1999. He was also nominated for the President's Volunteer Action Award in 1994. The Dorchester Ruritan Club dedicated a flag pole honoring his service during World War II.
Mr. Beck was a communicant of St. Mary, Refuge of Sinners Parish. He held life memberships in the American Legion and the VFW.
His hobbies included collecting military memorabilia and fishing. He also enjoyed music and photography.
Surviving are two nieces Betty Phelps of Seabrook, Gail Terrier and her husband, John of Silver Spring; two nephews, Charles Graves and his wife, Pauline of Connecticut, George Beck and his wife, Jeri of Dunkirk, several great-nieces, great-nephews, great-great-nieces, great-great-nephews and special friend, Gerri Porter of Fort Washington.
Preceding him in death besides his parents were two brothers, James Beck, George Franklyn Beck and a sister, Kathryn Graves.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held 3 p.m. on Thursday at St. Mary Refuge of Sinners Catholic Church, Cambridge, where the family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. Celebrant of the Mass will be The Rev. Anthony Greco. Military Honors will be provided by the 82nd Airborne and the Maryland National Honor Guard. A reception will follow at Pleasant Day Adult Day Care Center, Cambridge Beltway, Cambridge. Burial will be held Friday at 9:30 a.m. at the Maryland Veterans' Cemetery, Beulah.

Dale F. Logan Jr.
FRANKFORD, Del. - Dale F. Logan Jr., 68, formerly of Cambridge, passed away on Monday, May 5, 2003, at his home.
He was born Aug. 12, 1934, in Oil City, Pa., the son of the late Dale F. Logan and Marguerite Beatty Logan.
Mr. Logan attended Allegheny College in Meadville, Pa. He served in the United States Army between 1955 and 1957. He was employed by Robroy Plastics, Inc, in Morrisville, Pa. and Gilmer, Texas before moving to Cambridge in 1972. While in Cambridge he was employed by B. J. Linthicum and Bill Strawn Motors.
Mr. Logan is survived by his wife, Lorraine DeFrance Logan; two daughters, Lynne Marshall and her husband, Duane of Woolford and Lisa Wingate and her husband, Stephen of the Neck District; five grandchildren, Brandon Wingate, Brittany Marshall, Tyler Marshall, Meghan Wingate and Hillary Marshall and one brother, Robert C. Logan and his wife Doris of Clayton, Calif.
He was preceded in death by a twin brother, Richard B. Logan.
A private service will be held on May 8 at the Curran-Bromwell Funeral Home in Cambridge with military honors provided by the Maryland National Honor Guard. The Rev. Stephen Ackerman, pastor of the Mariner's Bethel United Methodist Church in Ocean View, Del., will officiate.

Dorsey Lee Hubbard
LINKWOOD - Dorsey Lee Hubbard, 62, died Wednesday, May 2, 2001 at Dorchester General Hospital.
He was born Aug. 21, 1938 in Cambridge, the son of Jessie Warfield Hubbard of Ragged Point and the late John Leslie Hubbard.
Mr. Hubbard was a waterman and retired in 1994.
Besides his mother Mr. Hubbard is survived by his companion, Estelle Gore of Linkwood; a son, Ricky Hubbard of Cambridge; a daugher, Beverly Ann Williamson of Preston; two brothers, Harold Stanley Hubbard and his wife, Betty Jean of East New Market, Donald L. Hubbard of Tyaskin; a sister, Elizabeth Vanwich of Rapid, Mich.; two granddaughters; one nephew, Richard A. Hubbard of East New Market; his companion's children, James Edgar Leonard and his wife, Terrie, Virginia Eva Leonard, Christopher Morris Leonard and his child, Zachary.
Mr. Hubbard was cremated. A graveside service will be held 11 a.m. Monday at Dorchester Memorial Park. Officiating at the service will be Pastor Thomas Schuyler.
