Dorothy A. Atkins
SEAFORD, Del. - Dorothy Adline Atkins, 65, died Tuesday, July 1, 2003 at the Nanticoke Memorial Hospital in Seaford.
She was a homemaker, who enjoyed her children, grand and great-grandchildren. Mrs. Atkins moved to Seaford five years ago, coming from the Cambridge area.
She was a studying Jehovah witness at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah Witness at the Seaford Congregation.
Mrs. Atkins is survived by her husband, Elmer T. Atkins; her mother, Effie Derby Floyd of Virginia; two sons, Elmer "Tom" Atkins Jr. of Federalsburg and Charles Atkins of Hurlock; three daughters, Karen Atkins of Seaford, Michelle Scherer of Salisbury and "Ashley" Nichole Atkins. She is also survived by a brother, Ray Buisset; four sisters, Betty Blanton, Mina Wright, Linda Howes and Ginny Buisset and several grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Mrs. Atkins was preceded in death by her father, Charles Buisset and a daughter, Deborah Felty.
Services will be held at the convenience of the family.

CAMBRIDGE - Vernon A. Barnes, 79, passed away at his home on Thursday, July 3, 2003. He was the husband of Alice Busta.
A funeral service will be held 2 p.m. Sunday at the Thomas Funeral Home in Cambridge with the Rev. Barry L. Miller officiating. Burial will follow at Dorchester Memorial Park.
The family will receive friends from 7:30 to 9 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home.
May A. McWilliams
BLADES, Del. - May A. McWilliams, 94, passed away Tuesday, July 1, 2003 at the Seaford Center in Seaford, Del.
She was born Aug. 11, 1908 near Vienna, the daughter of the late Sola Henry and Mary Lizzie Marvel Blades.
During her working years, Ms. McWilliams was employed as a seamstress for several clothing manufacturing firms.
When her mother was living, Ms. McWilliams often attended the First Baptist Church in East New Market. Later she attended the Blades Methodist Church.
She is survived by three sons, Marvel "Mac" McWilliams of Dagsboro, Del., Charles H. McWilliams of Snow Hill and Myron J. McWilliams of Dothan, Ala.; seven grandchilden and seven great-grandchildren.
In addition to her parents, Ms. McWilliams was preceded in death by a sister, Audrey Henry.
The family will receive friends from 11 p.m. to noon Saturday at the Zeller Funeral Home in East New Market. Funeral services will be held noon Saturday at the funeral home with the Rev. George C. Godfrey officiating. Burial will follow in the East New Market Cemetery.

Ruth A. Engle
CAMBRIDGE - Ruth Ann Engle, 47, passed away at her home on Saturday, July 5, 2003. She had been in failing health for several years.
She was born March 11, 1956 in Baltimore, the daughter of Leroy T. and Ruth Loretta Muller Phillips.
Ms. Engle had attended schools in Baltimore. She worked at Cambridge Scientific, Airpax, Food City, the Beverage Barn and also at the Burger King in Ocean City. She enjoyed crocheting and crafts.
Besides her parents, Ms. Engle is survived by a son, Darryl L. Engle and his companion, Andrea "Annie" Atwell, both of Cambridge; a daughter, Stephanie Engle-Robbins and her husband, Sean Robbins, both of Cambridge; two sisters, Connie M. Folderauer and her husband, Mark Folderauer of Baltimore, Sherry L. Collins and her husband, Calvin Collins of Federalsburg; a brother, Robert "Andy" Phillips and his companion, Sheila Peddicord of Cambridge; a half brother, Yancy Gaitheright and his wife, Sherry Gaitheright of Ft. Towson, Okla. She is also survived by four grandchildren: Zachary Engle, Sierra Engle, Christian Engle and Brittany Atwell; a number of cousins, nieces and nephews and aunts and uncles. She is also survived by three special friends, Betty McNamara, Mary Spicer and Mina Mills.
Ms. Engle was preceded in death by a son, Stephen Michael Engle; a grandson, Austin Robbins and a brother, Keith L. Phillips.
A funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. today at the Thomas Funeral Home in Cambridge with the Rev. David Wooten officiating. Burial will follow at the East New Market Cemetery. The family will receive friends during the hour preceding the service today.

Ray E. Langrall
LEWES, Del. - Ray E. Langrall, 77, passed away at the Bebee Medical Center in Lewes on Friday, July 4, 2003. He had been in failing health for several years, and had been a patient at the Bebee Medical Center since June 17.
He was born Dec. 4, 1925 in Cambridge, the son of the late Ray W. (Ted) Langrall and the late Louise Wirz Langrall Robinson.
Mr. Langrall graduated from Cambridge High School in 1943. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II and received an honorable discharge in 1945. He worked for the Phillips Packing Co. and the Phillips Hardware Co. in Cambridge where he was secretary-treasurer from 1943 until 1973.
Mr. Langrall moved to Rehoboth Beach in 1971 and has made his home in Lewes since 1995. He was a charter member of Cape Henlopen Elks Lodge No. 2540 where he served as charter secretary and was a former member of Cambridge Elks Lodge No. 1272 in Cambridge where he had served as secretary and on other various office and committees. He had been an Elks' member of over 50 years.
Mr. Langrall had been involved in many community and civic organizations including Rehoboth Art League, Miss Delaware Pageant, Miss Outdoors Pageant in Cambridge and the Administrative Management Society.
He was employed by East Coast Resorts, Inc. and Resort Furnishings, Inc. in Bethany Beach, Del., where he was vice president, treasurer and managing director until he retired. He also worked freelance as a bridal consultant and floral designer. He was host at the Lamp Post Restaurant and the Happy Crab Restaurant and had enjoyed buying and selling antiques.
His survivors include two daughters, Cynthia A. Langrall and her husband, Charles A. Weber of Glendale, Ariz., Suzette L. Lackey and her husband, Phillip Lackey of Jonesboro, Ga.; four grandchildren, Charles N. Davis III of Cambridge, Cherie L. Hart of Hawaii, Brian J. Lackey of Griffin, Ga. and Michelle R. Lackey of Jonesboro, Ga. and three great-grandchildren. He is also survived by a sister, Beatrice L. McCarter of Cambridge; one brother, Richard W. Langrall of Clearwater, Fla. and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
A graveside service will be held 2 p.m. Wednesday at Dorchester Memorial Park with the Rev. Douglas S. Albert officiating. The family will receive friends from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Wednesday at the Thomas Funeral Home in Cambridge.

Geraldine Batson-Stanley
CAMBRIDGE - Geraldine Elizabeth Batson-Stanley, 72, passed away Saturday, July 5, 2003 at Dorchester General Hospital.
She was born Dec. 28, 1930 in Cambridge, the daughter of the late William James and Viola S. Mitchell Batson.
She received her education at St. Clair High School. She moved to New York where her first child, Frederick, was born. She moved back to Cambridge and was married to William Jackson Sr. A son was born, William Jackson Jr.
Later on, Mrs. Stanley married Sam Stanley. A third son, Kevin T. Stanley was born. Mr. Stanley preceded her in death.
Mrs. Stanley helped to unionize Bumble Bee Seafood Co. and became the first president of the union. She also worked at the MAC Center with the seniors doing crafts.
She was known as Mama Gerald by all. She raised Bernadette Jordan of Baltimore, Re'nee Baylor-Gordy and Kevin Stanley II.
She is survived by three sons, Frederick of Baltimore, William and Kevin, both of Cambridge and Kathy Jefferson of Hopewell, Va.; two daughters-in-law of Baltimore and Gloria of Cambridge; three sisters, Viola Wheatley and Margaret Jackson of Cambridge and Deloris Truman of Baltimore; three brothers-in-law, Lloyd Wheatley and Henry Jackson of Cambridge, Roswalt T. Daily of Salisbury; 14 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren and 30 nieces and nephews and a special friend, Alfred Molock.
Funeral services will be held 1 p.m. Thursday at Bethel AME Church in Cambridge with the Rev. Leon Hall officiating. Friends may call tonight from 7 to 9 at the church. Burial will be in Bethel Cemetery in Cambridge.
Pallbearers will be George Murray III, Forney Wongus, Jackie Chester, Bobby Camper, Jacob Camper, James Stanley and alternate, William Northam.

Albert M. Carter Jr.
HURLOCK - Albert McLindsey Carter Jr., 48, passed away Friday, July 4, 2003.
He was born March 16, 1955, the son of Mildred Cephas of Queens, N.Y. and the late Albert McLindsey Carter Sr.
Mr. Carter attended the public schools in Dorchester County. He enlisted in to the United States Army in 1973 and was honorably discharged in 1980. Currently, he was employed with Coldwater Seafood in Cambridge.
He met and was married to the former Linda Diane Pinkett.
Mr. Carter attended the Church of God of Prophecy in Hurlock with the Rev. Howard Wier, pastor and Greater Mount Zion Pentecostal Church in Bethlehem with Bishop Chester Friend, pastor.
In addition to his wife and mother, he is survived by two sons, Albert McLindsey Carter III and Albert McLindsey Carter IV, both of Hurlock; his grandmother, Blannie Freeman of Hurlock; three grandsons, Albert M. Carter V, Labryant Carter and Jaonte Ancrum, all of Salisbury; two sisters, Denise Sampson of Hurlock and Cynthia Carter of Cambridge; three brothers, Warren Carter of Red Creek, N.Y., Ernest Carter of Hurlock and Timothy Carter (Laura) of Salisbury; three sisters-in-law and two brothers-in-law; special friends, Mr. and Mrs. Irvin Russell Jr. of Preston and Shirlene Waller of Baltimore and a number of nieces, nephews and cousins.
A funeral service will be held 11 a.m. Thursday at the Greater Mt. Zion Pentecostal Church in Bethlehem with Bishop Chester Friend, officiating. Burial will follow in the Maryland Veterans' Cemetery, Eastern Shore at Beulah.
There will be a viewing from 6 to 8 tonight at the Henry Funeral Home, P.A. in Cambridge.
John J. Machlinski Jr.
PRESTON - John Jacob Machlinski Jr., 33, formerly of Preston, passed away Monday, July 7, 2003 in Baltimore.
He was born Feb. 5, 1970 in Baltimore, the son of the late John J. and Anna R. Sheeks Machlinski Sr.
After graduating from high school, he joined the Air Force and later went on to work as a service technician at Hufcor Potomac, Inc. in Stevensville.
In addition to his wife, Shawna, whom he married March 9, 1996, he is survived by one daughter, Cali Rose Machlinski of Preston; one sister, Patricia Saunders of Abdington and two brothers, James Shiminek of Baltimore and Anthony Lockerard of Florida.
He was preceded in death by three sisters and one brother.
Funeral services will be held privately at the convenience of the family.
Funeral arrangements are being handled by the Williamson Funeral Home in Federalsburg.
George Wills
LANDOVER - George Wills, husband of Janice Wilson Wills, died at Prince Georges County Hospital.
Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Saturday at the J.B. Jenkins Funeral Home in Landover. Burial will follow in Bethel Cemetery in Cambridge approximately 2:30-3 p.m. There will be a viewing two hours prior to the services.
Diana P. Hernandez
SAN ANTONIO, Texas - Diana Pacheco Hernandez, 60, passed away suddenly while visiting her son on Monday, July 14, 2003 at the Memorial Hospital at Easton.
She is survived by one son, Michael A. Hernandez and his wife, Raquel of Easton and one granddaughter, Alexandria Hernandez of Easton.
Funeral services will be held in San Antonio, Texas.
Local funeral arrangements are being handled by the Williamson Funeral Home in Federalsburg.
William B. O'Ferrall
LINKWOOD - William B. O'Ferrall, 56, passed away Tuesday, July 15, 2003 at the Dorchester General Hospital in Cambridge. He had been in failing health for the past 18 months.
He was born Oct. 19, 1946 in Cambridge, a son of Margaret Jackson O'Ferrall and the late William Franklin O'Ferrall.
Mr. O'Ferrall had attended schools in Cambridge. He enlisted in the U.S. Army on Oct. 27, 1964 and served in France and Belgium as a medic. He received an honorable discharge on Oct. 6, 1967.
On Aug. 24, 1971 he was married to Brenda Murphy. Mr. O'Ferrall had worked at several places and most recently had worked for the Oyster Recovery Program at Horn Point.
Besides his mother of Cambridge and his wife of Linkwood, Mr. O'Ferrall is survived by four children, David S. O'Ferrall of Cambridge, Laura A. Walters of Trappe, Kevin B. O'Ferrall of Dothan, Ala., Michael J. O'Ferrall of Linkwood; six grandchildren, Matthew Walters, Jordan Walters, Lauren O'Ferrall, Aaron O'Ferrall, Amanda O'Ferrall and Dylan O'Ferrall. He is also survived by three brothers, Larry Lee O'Ferrall of Lanham, Franklin R. O'Ferrall of East New Market, Daniel M. O'Ferrall of Camden, Del. and several nieces and nephews.
A funeral service will be held 1 p.m. Friday at the Thomas Funeral Home in Cambridge with the Rev. A. Delmer Willey officiating. Burial will follow at the Maryland Veterans' Cemetery at Beulah. The family will receive friends on Friday during the hour preceding the service.

Marian Foster
VIENNA - Graveside services will be held 10 a.m. Saturday at St. Paul's Cemetery in Vienna for Marian Foster of Starkville, Miss.
The Zeller Funeral Home in East New Market is handling the local arrangements.
Mrs. Foster passed away Aug. 18, 2002. She was born and raised in the historic Tavern House on the Nanticoke River in Vienna to Nellie Moore Webster and Clay McAllister Webb. She was the youngest child and had two brothers and a sister.
Mrs. Foster attended William and Mary College in Williamsburg, Va., where she majored in English literature and was a member of Pi Beta Phi and president of Lambda Phi Sigma during her senior year. That same year she met Jack Foster, an Air Force pilot and they married following World War II.
When her children were young, Mrs. Foster became involved in activities to support their interests, including the PTA and Girl Scout Campership Chairman.
She spent many hours with her girls swimming and sailing at the Beach Club. She was an excellent cook and hostess and loved creating gourmet meals. She was also an avid bridge player.
Mrs. Foster is survived by her sister, Ann Denniston of Austin, Texas; her husband of Starkville; five daughters, Pat Saultman of San Francisco, Calif., Christine Foster of Missoula, Mont., Nina Martin of West Haven, Conn., Susan Residence of Winona, Minn., and Katie Faerber of Starkville; and 14 grandchildren.

Jack D. Taylor
CAMBRIDGE - Jack Dempsey Taylor, 73, passed away Tuesday, July 15, 2003 at Dorchester General Hospital. Mr. Taylor had been in failing health for about a year.
He was born Sept. 2, 1929 in Ocean City and had resided at the Bradford House in Cambridge for several years.
He is survived by five children and a number of grandchildren; a niece, Darlene Christopher resides in Baltimore. He is also survived by two special friends, Louise Delaha and Mary Farrell of Cambridge.
There will be no services as per Mr. Taylor's request.
Charles F. Mitchell
CAMBRIDGE - Charles Floyd Mitchell, 51, died Tuesday, July 15, 2003 at Dorchester General Hospital.
He was born Nov. 5, 1951 in Washington, D.C., the son of Susie Baylor Mitchell and the late William Mitchell.
Mr. Mitchell was educated in the public schools of Washington, D.C. He worked various places in the Washington, D.C./Maryland area that included, D. C. General Hospital, a cook in the Georgetown area and as a painter.
He attended Bethel AME Church and actively participated with the Missionaries (Soup Kitchen), Bible Study and Sunday school.
In addition to his mother, his survivors include a wife, Modena Mitchell of Washington, D.C.; a sister, Norma Muse' of Tacoma, Wash.; two sisters-in-law, Loretta Harris and Roslyn Bell, both of Washington, D.C. and a number of other relatives.
A funeral service will be held 2 p.m. Saturday at the Henry Funeral Home, P.A. in Cambridge with the Rev. Leon B. Hall Sr. officiating. Burial will follow in Bethel AME Church Cemetery.
There will be a viewing on hour prior to the service.
Clifton P. Demby
CAMBRIDGE - Clifton Purnell (Sugar Pie) Demby, 60, passed away Friday, July 11, 2003 at his home.
He was born Dec. 5, 1942 in Secretary, son of the late Roland and Laura Demby Sr.
Mr. Demby was educated in the public schools of Dorchester County. He was affiliated with Mt. Zion Church of East New Market and visited various other churches in the area. He was also a past member of the Over The Hill Gang.
Mr. Demby gathered daily at the Chat and Chew to be with his friends Ivy Stafford, Billy Gregory, Kermit Travers, Ernest Lee, George Douglass, Copeland Wilson, Joe Stanley, Frank Dickerson, Hayward Murray and Shack.
He was united in holy matrimony on Aug. 18, 1974 to the former Darlene Lewis. From this union there were three children born, Arethea (Rene) of Rosedale, Dominique and Alice (Candy) of Cambridge. He also has four other daughters, Laura Jones of Baltimore, Stacey (Joseph) Stancel of Newark, Del., Shirleen Molock of Glen Burnie and Hope Robinson of Philadelphia, Pa. Mr. Demby is also survived by 17 grandchildren, three of whom he raised DeAnra Demby, Calvin Cornish Jr. and Sha'Quinda Demby and two nieces, he raised, Juanita Cornish and Michelle Lewis. He leaves six great-grandchildren; three brothers, Merritt Demby and George (Patricia) Demby of Hurlock, Frederick (Terry) Demby of Cambridge; three sisters, Thelma (James) Dobson, Rhonda Cornish (Brice) and Pearl Boggs, all of Hurlock; a mother-in-law, Odessa Lewis of Cambridge; four sisters-in-law, Marie Demby of Wilmington, Del., Jo Ann, Alice Anderson, Vickie Jolley, all of Cambridge; six brothers-in-law, Willie (Millie Ann) Lewis, Roy, George, Walter Lewis, all of Cambridge, Sandra Lee (Mable) Lewis of Philadelphia, Eugene (Annetta) Lewis of Trappe, Wilbur Sampson of East New Market and a number of nieces, nephews and cousins.
Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Clifton Lamar Demby; five brothers, Charles, Floyd Sr., Lester Sr., James Sr. and Roland Jr.; three sisters, Vivian Lattimore, Shirley Sampson and Ida Belle Parker; one grandchild, Demetrius Demby and one great-granddaughter, Ja'Necka Jones.
Funeral services will be held 1 p.m. Saturday at Mt. Zion United Methodist Church, East New Market. Burial will follow in the East New Market Cemetery.
A viewing will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at the Bennie Smith Funeral Home in Cambridge.
Gladys H. Dingley
BROOKVIEW - Gladys H. Dingley, 86, formerly of Portland, Maine, passed away Monday, July 21, 2003 at the Genesis Eldercare Seaford Center in Seaford, Del.
She was born Oct. 20, 1916 in Madison, Maine, the daughter of the late Horatio Nelson Hapworth and Vina L. Fickett.
Mrs. Dingley was a member of Advent Christian Church in Portland, Maine and attended First Baptist Church in Hurlock while living in Maryland.
She is survived by a daughter, Patricia Hughes of Brookview; four stepchildren in Maine; three granddaughters; eight great-grandchildren; and one great-great-granddaughter.
Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her first husband, Forest Crosby who died in 1963 and her second husband, Edward Dingley who died in 1978.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. today at the First Baptist Church in Hurlock with the Rev. Gordon Nock officiating. Friends may call from 1-2 p.m. today at the church.
Burial will take place July 28 at the Brooklawn Cemetery in Portland, Maine.
