Irvin F. Wilkinson

CAMBRIDGE - Irvin F. Wilkinson, 93, of Cambridge, passed away at the Mallard Bay Care Center on Saturday, October 4, 2003.

He was born in Philadelphia on December 30, 1909 and was a son of the late Irvin Webser, and Lura Street Wilkinson.

He was raised and had attended schools in Aberdeen. From 1928 until 1930, he lived in Kearney, New Jersey, where he worked as a supervisor for Western Electric.

He moved to Cambridge in 1930 and in 1931 went to work for the Phillips Packing Co. as a plant manager in Cambridge and Laurel, Del.

In the mid-1950's, he worked for Draper Foods in Milford, Del., and from 1963 until 1974 worked as plant manager for W T Andrews Co. He retired in 1974.

He was married to Miriam Andrews in 1933. She passed away on December 29, 1993.

Mr. Wilkinson was an honorary member of Rescue Fire Co. Inc., Zion United Methodist Church, 50-year-member and Past Master of Cambridge Lodge No. 66 A F and A M, and Cambridge Elks Lodge No. 1271 and the YMCA swim group.

He had been in failing health for several months and had been a resident at the Mallard Bay Care Center since July.

Survivors include a son, Irvin F. Wilkinson Jr of Bel Air, MD; two grandsons, Jeffrey S. Wilkinson of Timonium and Steven Lee Wilkinson of Bel Air; five great-grandchildren, Jennifer Wilkinson, Christopher Wilkinson, Zak Wilkinson, Jake Wilkinson and Logan Marsh; one sister, Belle Mobray of Cambridge and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by one sister, Ethel Esch and four brothers, Edwin Wilkinson, Louis Wilkinson, Alan Wilkinson and Roy Wilkinson.

A Masonic Memorial Service will be held at 1 p.m., on Tuesday at Zion United Methodist Church in Cambridge. A funeral service will follow with the Rev. Kevin E. English officiating. Burial will follow at Greenlawn Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Steven Wilkinson, Jeffrey Wilkinson, Jennifer Wilkinson, Dick Wilkinson, Christopher Wilkinson and Zak Wilkinson. Honorary Bearers will be the Men's Bible Class of Zion United Methodist Church and the members of the Baywatch Swim Club.

Donald B. Cannon

Donald B. "Burgie" Cannon, 77, of Cambridge, died at his home on Friday, October 3, 2003. He was born in Cambridge on September 6, 1926, the son of the late Ogle B. and Magnolia Lankford Cannon.

He attended schools in Cambridge.

Mr. Cannon served in the US Navy during WW II and had been stationed in the Philippines. He was awarded the Pacific Theater Ribbon, American Theater Ribbon and the WW II Victory Metal.

He was married to the former Shirley Bush on November 10, 1950. She passed away on February 2, 2002.

Mr. Cannon had worked for Delmarva Power until he retired, and was a fifty-year member of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers. He also worked on the water all his life.

Before he became ill, Mr. Cannon had worked at Dayton's Restaurant in Cambridge for a number of years.

He had been in failing health for the past two months.

Survivors include a daughter, Debra Lynn Cannon of Cambridge; one son, Donald B. Cannon Jr of Cambridge; two granddaughters, Amber Renee Cannon and Deseree Brooke Cannon, both of Annapolis; one step-granddaughter, Ashley Brooke Greenhawk of Cambridge and one great-grandson, Brandon Briggs of Annapolis.

He is also survived by one sister, Ethel C. Durandetto of Cambridge; three brothers, Robert H. Cannon, Ogle B. "Tim" Cannon and his wife Peggy, and Eldridge W. Cannon, all of Cambridge and numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by a brother, Wallace L. Cannon.

A funeral service will be held at 1 p.m., Tuesday, at the Maryland Veterans Cemetery near Hurlock with the Rev. Douglas M. Ridley officiating. The family will receive friends from 11 a.m. until noon on Tuesday at the Thomas Funeral Home in Cambridge.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Coastal Hospice Foundation, P.O. Box 1733, Salisbury, MD 21802, the American Cancer Society, c/o Mrs. Doris Weber, 5163 Maple Dam Road, Cambridge, MD 21613 or Grace United Methodist Church, 501 Race Street, Cambridge, MD. 21613.

Pallbearers will be Robert H. Cannon Jr, Wallace L Cannon Jr, Ronnie Cannon, David Cannon, Keith Retallack and Wendell Travers. Honorary Bearers will be Calvin Travers, Michael Travers, Edward Dayton Jr and John Dickerson.

Betty R. Adams

Betty R. Adams died on Saturday, October 4, 2003.

She was the wife of James J. Adams and sister of Isabelle Beggs. She also had several nieces and nephews.

Friends may call at Evans Chapel of Memories in Parkville between 3 - 5 p.m. and 7 - 9 p.m., on Tuesday.

A funeral liturgy will be held 10 a.m. on Wednesday at St. Ursula's Catholic Church, 8801 Harford Rd. Parkville, MD 21234.

Burial at Dulaney Valley Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the church.

Wilsie S. Ward

CAMBRIDGE - Wilsie Schoupe Ward, 87, passed away at the Glasgow Nursing Home in Cambridge on Tuesday, Nov. 20, 2001. She had been in failing health for the past several years and had been a resident at Glasgow since August 1998.

She was born Dec. 6, 1913 at Blackwater, the daughter of the late Lorenzo Dow and Della Meekins Wallace.

Mrs. Ward had attended schools in the Blackwater area. On July 16, 1943 she was married to Robert G. Ward. He passed away on Feb. 19, 1980.

Mrs. Ward had been a homemaker for most of her life. She was a member of the Ladies' Auxiliary of Choptank Memorial Post 7460 VFW, Crapo MAC Center, Cambridge Senior Citizens Center as well as the Pleasant Day Adult Day Care Center.

She had enjoyed arts and crafts, country music, playing cards and was an avid fisherman.

She is survived by a daughter-in-law, Gail W. Schoupe of Pennsylvania; a great-granddaughter; several nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by three sons, E. Dow Schoupe, M. Howard Schoupe and Wallace L. Schoupe; one grandson, Robert W. Schoupe; one sister, Mary Wheatley and six brothers, Howard Wallace, Russell Wallace, Ralph Wallace, Joe Wallace, James Wallace and Earl C. Wallace.

A graveside service will be held 1 p.m. Friday at the Spedden Seward Cemetery with the Rev. Gloria S. Attix officiating. There will be no viewing.

Arrangements are being handled by the Thomas Funeral Home, P.A. in Cambridge.

Rebecca W. Goslin

ARDEN, N.C. - Rebecca W. "Beck" Goslin, 94, passed away Friday, Nov. 16, 2001. She was a life-long educator.

Preceded in death by her parents, Mary King Bramble and Monroe Meredith Willey; her husband, William Talmadge "Buck" Goslin and long time companion Albert H. Jones, Mrs. Goslin is survived by her daughter, M. King Goslin and daughter-in-law, Jo Ann Logan Cooper; nephew, Marshall Monroe Willey; two great-nieces, two great-nephews, five great-great nieces and two great-great nephews.

A memorial service celebrating her life will be held 2 p.m. Nov. 29 at the Union United Methodist Church in Federalsburg.

Memorial donations may be made to Union UMC, 301 N. Main St., or Federalsburg Volunteer Fire Company, P.O. Box 99, Federalsburg, MD 21632.

The Williamson Funeral Home in Federalsburg is handling the arrangements.

Blanche E. Nichols

KENNESAW, Ga. - Blanche E. Nichols, 97, formerly of Federalsburg, passed away Friday, Nov. 16, 2001, at Ross Memorial Health Care Center.

Born in Covington, Va., she lived in Federalsburg and operated Woerner Beauty Salon for 45 years before retiring in 1976. She moved to McLean, Va., where she lived with her daughter and son-in-law for 14 years before moving to Atlanta in 1991.

She was a Methodist and had attended Union United Methodist Church in Federalsburg. She also had attended County Line United Methodist Church in Acworth, Ga.

She is survived by one daughter, Ruth A. McCracken of Williamsburg, Va.; four grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren and one nephew.

Funeral services will be held 2 p.m. Tuesday at the Williamson Funeral Home in Federalsburg. Burial will follow in Hillcrest Cemetery.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home two hours prior to the services.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Ross Memorial Auxiliary Health Care Center, Kennesaw, Ga. 30144.

Herman A. Boog

VIENNA - Herman A. Boog, 76, died Thursday, Nov. 15, 2001, at his home.

Born June 18, 1925, he was the only child of the late Fred A. and Lavada Hackett Boog. He was born and spent his entire life on Steam Mill Farm.

As a young boy, he served as an altar boy at St. Paul's Episcopal Church in Vienna. As a young man, he was named Outstanding Young Farmer of Dorchester County by the Dorchester County Extension Service. He was a member of the Dorchester County Farm Bureau, the Dorchester County Farm Bureau Discussion Group, the United Methodist Church, the Methodist Men of Vienna, Cambridge B.P.O. Elks Lodge 1272 and the Chicone Ruritan Club, where he had served as president, as well as holding other offices. He also served on the Dorchester County Zoning Board of Appeals.

With the help of his friend, Randall Murphy, he erected the Chicone community bulletin board showcase currently in use in Vienna. As a younger man, he assisted in the revitalization of St. Paul's Episcopal Cemetery.

He is survived by his wife of 54 years, the former Nellie Elizabeth Sellers; one son, Vernon G. Boog of Vienna; one daughter, Constance Lavada Boog Payne of Secretary; one son-in-law, Glen A. Payne Sr. of Secretary; one granddaughter, Ashley Elizabeth Payne of Secretary; one brother-in-law, Reginald L. Sellers and his wife, Emma Jean, of Vienna; one nephew, Reggie Sellers, of Vienna; and five cousins, Harry Boog Jr. of Hampstead, Louise Boog Basler of Hollywood, Md., David Boog of Mardela, Rosetta Boog Hurley of Ocean City and Sylvia Lavada Hackett of Chestertown.

A graveside funeral service will be held 2 p.m. Tuesday at St. Paul's Episcopal Cemetery in Vienna. The Rev. Mary Anne Farnell will officiate.

The family will receive friends 6 to 8:30 tonight at the Zeller Funeral Home in East New Market.

Pallbearers will be Jason Bradley, Byron Cameron, Bill Outten, Dewaine Woodsen, Bob Dixon and Vic Sainato. Honorary pallbearers will be Bobby Spear, Gene Spear, Ed Willey, Reg Sellers and Randall Murphy.

Maurj'a L. Rich

EASTON - Maurj'a Lanique Rich, 6 months, died Thursday, Nov. 15, 2001, at Johns Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore.

Born in Easton April 27, 2001, she was the daughter of Maurice Lavar Rich and Monica Stanley Rich.

Besides her parents, she is survived by her maternal grandmother Josephine Sudler, paternal grandmother Deborah Williams, maternal grandfather Thomas Stanley, three aunts, Latonya Ennals of Salisbury, Kim Gunther, Tina Williams and Donnetta Johnson; two uncles, James Ennals and Larry Williams; 10 great-aunts, 12 great-uncles, one special cousin, Tyree Bryant; one special friend, Roland Adams; and a number of other relatives.

She was preceded in death by her great-grandparents, Ina and Joseph Sudler; and paternal grandfather Larry Rich.

A funeral service will be held 1 p.m. Wednesday at the Henry Funeral Home in Cambridge. The Rev. Enez Stafford-Grubb will officiate. Burial will follow at Waugh Cemetery.

A viewing will take place one hour prior to the service.

Edward H. St. Clair Jr.

CAMBRIDGE - Edward Hazelton St. Clair Jr., 83, died Thursday, Nov. 15, 2001, at Dorchester General Hospital.

Born in Cambridge April 6, 1918, he was the son of the late Edward H. St. Clair Sr. and the late Emma Slater-St. Claire. He attended Frederick Douglas St. Clair High School, graduating in 1934. He spent one year in college.

He joined the armed forces in 1942 and was honorably discharged in 1945. He worked several jobs before becoming the entrepreneur of Ed's Cash Market for 46 years.

He was a member of Waugh Chapel United Methodist Church, serving as a member of the cemetery guild, older adult ministry, birthday committee and finance committee. He was also a member of the American Legion and the Cedar Meadows Rod and Gun Club.

He is survived by four children, Gladys Cornish of Cambridge, Dollie Cornish-Wade of Philadelphia, Dwight Wongus of El Paso, Texas, and Sharon Wongus of Cambridge; two stepsons, George Douglas and Carl Brannock, both of Cambridge; one sister, Mary Wesley of Philadelphia; three nieces, Carol St. Clair of Baltimore, Barbara Lassiter of Philadelphia and Sylvia Bappite; six grandchildren, Edward, Jeffrey, Emory, Bronte' Dewight and Malita; one son-in-law, Buddy Wade; eight great-grandchildren, two great-great-grandchildren; one great-nephew, Lewis Lassiter of Buffalo, N.Y.; two godchildren, Linda and Portia Marine Booth of Annapolis; one very close friend, Orville Chase; and a number of cousins, other relatives and friends.

A funeral service will be held 11 a.m. Tuesday at Bethel AME Church. The Rev. William J. Wallace Sr. will officiate. Burial will follow at the Maryland Veterans' Cemetery in Beulah.

Friends and family may call 3 to 7 p.m. today at the Henry Funeral Home. A viewing will be held two hours prior to the service at the church.

Edward J. Mercer

CAMBRIDGE - Edward J. Mercer, 82, passed away Saturday, Nov. 17, 2001, at Dorchester General Hospital.

A funeral service will be held 11 a.m. Tuesday at the Maryland Veterans' Cemetery Chapel near Hurlock.

The family will receive friends 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at the Thomas Funeral Home in Cambridge.

Memorial contributions may be made to The Salvation Army, 200 Washington St., Cambridge, MD 21613.

Karen W. Parks

EASTON - Karen Windsor Parks, 45, died Tuesday, Nov. 13, 2001 at the Memorial Hospital at Easton.

She was born Feb. 10, 1956 in Crisfield, the daughter of Earl M. and Anne Morgan Windsor.

After graduating from Mardela High School in 1974 she attended the MacQueen Gibbs Willis School of Nursing where she received her Registered Nurse Diploma in 1977. She later earned her bachelor of science in nursing from Wilmington College in 1994, her certification in nursing administration in 1994 and her master's degree in business administration from the University of Maryland in 1997.

From 1977 to 1981 she was employed as a staff nurse at Memorial Hospital in Easton and then as a staff nurse at the Mid-Shore Dialysis Center until 1984. From 1984 to 1990 she was again associated with Memorial Hospital at Easton as a renal coordinator and staff nurse in Pediatrics.

In 1990 she began her association with Dorchester General Hospital in Cambridge, where she was nurse manager in Telemetry from 1991 to 1994, vice president from 1994 to 1995 and then director of Patient Care Services in 1995. As part of Shore Health Systems she was director of Critical Care Nursing in 1996 and director of Patient Care Services from 1998 until her illness.

Other activities included her development of the first Competency Plan for Shore Health Systems as required by the JCAHO, was a key player in establishing and finalizing the relationship between the University of Maryland and Shore Health Systems in relation to the Critical Care Transport Team, located nurses for the local 4-H Camp and the Asthma Camp, served on the Maryland Board of Licensing for Competency Criteria in Baltimore, was active in the development of Shore Health System's Partnership - a collaborative organization of professional nurses, as well as being active in the White Marsh PTA.

Mrs. Parks was a member of the American Nursing Association and a member of Nelson's Memorial United Methodist Church in Hebron. She loved to read, write poetry, travel, draw pencil portraits and was fond of animals, especially her dogs and horses.

In addition to her parents, she is survived by her husband, Keith A. Parks Sr., whom she married Nov. 27, 1980; two sons, Kevin W. Parks of Preston and Keith A. Parks Jr. of Easton; a nephew, Reilly Morgan Bell of Alabama and numerous aunts, uncles and close friends.

A sister, Sherry Lynn Bell, preceded her in death on Sept. 5, 1998.

Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Nov. 19 at St. Mark's United Methodist Church in Easton. Burial will be at Woodlawn Memorial Park, Easton.

Friends may call at the Fellows, Helfenbein & Newnam Funeral Home, P.A., Easton from 3-5 p.m. Sunday.

Isidore R. Murray

CAMBRIDGE - Isidore Raynor Murray, 90, died Tuesday, Nov. 13, 2001 at the Shore Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Denton.

He was born May 9, 1911 in Dorchester County, the son of the late George Murray and Vera Hopkins.

Mr. Murray received his education in the schools of Dorchester County. His employment years were spent working for the Phillips and Wheatley Trucking Company, Harper and Bateman and the Connelly Container Co.

Mr. Murray served as a chauffeur for many years for some very prominent Cambridge citizens.

He was a member of Waugh United Methodist Church and attended regularly as long as his health permitted. He was a member of the Odd Fellows and the NAACP organization.

Mr. Murray enlisted in the U.S. Armed Forces on March 9, 1944 and was discharged on Feb. 24, 1946.

His survivors include two children, Orville Chase of Cambridge and Ather Miller of Brooklyn, N.Y.; two grandchildren, Ronald Chase of Ithaca, N.Y. and Gloria Jean Sudler of Baltimore; four stepgrandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. He is also survived by three sisters, Lula Washington and Thelma Cornish, both of Chestertown, Belrea Brockman of Denver, Colo.; three brothers, Floyd Murray and George Murray, both of Hurlock and Hayward Murray of Cambridge; a daughter-in-law, Leah Chase of Cambridge; two sisters-in-law, Mildred Murray and Anna Murray, both of Hurlock; a brother-in-law, Gregory Brockman of Denver, Colo.; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

Mr. Murray was preceded in death by five sisters.

A funeral service will be held noon Monday at Mt. Pleasant United Methodist Church in Salem. Burial will follow at the Maryland Veterans' Cemetery at Beulah.

There will be a viewing from 6-8 p.m. Sunday at Waugh Chapel UM Church and the family will be present the last hour. Friends may also visit from 10 a.m. to noon Monday at the church prior to the service.

The Henry Funeral Home is handling the arrangements.

Edward St. Clair

CAMBRIDGE - Edward St. Clair, passed away Thursday morning, Nov. 15, 2001 at Dorchester General Hospital.

He was the father of Gladys Cornish and Sharon Wongus, both of Cambridge, Dwight Wongus of Texas and Dollie Wade of Philadelphia.

Funeral arrangements, which are incomplete at this time, are being handled by the Henry Funeral Home.

Floyd Murphy

CAMBRIDGE - Floyd (Bill) Murphy, 66, passed away Tuesday evening, Nov. 13, 2001 at Dorchester General Hospital.

He was born Oct. 13, 1935 to the late James and Carrie Murphy.

Mr. Murphy was a contractor for many years. He worked for Harper and Bateman Pickle Co. until he was injured in an automobile accident that forced his retirement.

He is survived by his wife, Marie and two daughters, Gloria and Deborah, both of Winter Garden, Fla.; one stepdaughter, Juanita Ali of Cambridge; four stepsons, Jessie Blount of Salisbury, Alvin Berdaux, Robert and Calvin, all of Hurlock; a very special friend, Nellie Berdaux; four sisters, Josephine Davis of Pontiac, Mich., Willie Mae Bryant of Ohio; Phyllis Murphy, Marie Young of Columbus, Ohio; four brothers, Frankie Murphy and R.C. Murphy of Saginaw, Mich., George Murphy and Ed Murphy of California; six grandchildren; 10 stepgrandchildren; 16 stepgreat-grandchildren and a number of nieces, nephews and cousins.

He was preceded in death by two brothers, James Jr. and Arlean Thomas.

Funeral services will be held 2 p.m. Saturday at the Bennie Smith Funeral Home in Hurlock. Friends may call 6 to 8 tonight at the funeral home or one hour before the service on Saturday.

Herman A. Boog

VIENNA - Herman A. Boog died Thursday, Nov. 15, 2001 at his home.

He is survived by his wife, Nellie Sellers Boog; one son, Vernon Boog of Vienna and one daughter, Connie B. Payne of East New Market.

Funeral arrangements, which are incomplete, are being handled by the Zeller Funeral Home in East New Market.
