ROMA G. DURST
Roma Geneva Durst, 77, Grantsville, died Saturday, Nov. 6, 1999, at the Meyersdale (Pa.) Medical Center.
Born Dec. 13, 1921, in Humbert, Pa., she was a daughter of the late Reeves Wesley and Lavada Nicola (Watie) Morrison. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Garland O. 'Pudge' Durst, and three sisters, Dorothy Volosich, Betty Beeman, and Shirley Durst.
She was a homemaker and a member of Jennings Church of God.
Surviving are three sons, Garland O. Durst Jr., Salisbury, Pa., and Randall D. Durst and Timothy A. Durst, both of Grantsville; four daughters, Darlene House, Shirley Ann 'Lolly' Yommer, Brenda Lee Yommer, and Patricia K. Durst, all of Grantsville; two brothers, William Morrison, Connellsville, Pa., and Teddy Morrison, Friendsville; two sisters, Orpha Rittenour, Connellsville, and Pauline Sikes, Florida; 21 grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.
Friends were received at the Newman Funeral Home, Grantsville, where a service was conducted Monday, Nov. 8, with the Rev. George Plants officiating. Interment was in the Grantsville Cemetery.

THOMAS H. ELDER
An inurnment service for Thomas H. Elder, 79, Swanton, who died Thursday, Oct. 21, at Garrett County Memorial Hospital, Oakland, is set for Thursday, Nov. 18, at 3 p.m., at the Arlington National Cemetery Columbarium, with full military honors.
The Stewart Funeral Home, Oakland, is in charge of arrangements.
FLORENCE R. BEARDSLEY
Funeral services were conducted Friday, Nov. 5, for Florence R. Beardsley, 87, Grantsville, who was killed Nov. 3 in an accident at the Grantsville Shopping Plaza parking lot.
Mrs. Beardsley was born Feb. 27, 1912, in Point Marion, Pa., a daughter of the late Jess A. and Nellie (Stoner) Rhodes. She was also preceded in death by her husband, E. Eugene Beardsley, on July 20, 1966; two sisters, Edna R. Richner and Winifred R. Lyons; and one brother, Albert G. Rhodes.
She was a homemaker and a member of the First Christian Church, Point Marion.
Survivors include three daughters, Susan B. Maxwell, Oswego, N.Y., Betsy J. Beardsley, Ft. Lauderdale, Fla., and Kathleen B. Johnson, Annapolis; one brother, Raymer M. Rhodes, Orlando, Fla.; one sister, Janet R. Jacob, Sun City, Ariz.; and six grandchildren.
Friends were received at the Newman Funeral Home, Grantsville. A graveside service was conducted at the Evergreen Cemetery, Point Marion, on Saturday, Nov. 6, with the Rev. Bruce B. Maxwell officiating.
The family suggests memorials take the form of contributions to Hospice of Garrett County or a charity of the donor’s choice.
MARGARET L. MAUST
Margaret Lucille Maust, 84, Frostburg Village Nursing Center, Frostburg, died Monday, Nov. 8, 1999, at Sacred Heart Hospital, Cumberland.
Born Aug. 22, 1915, in Meyersdale, Pa., she was a daughter of the late Robert and Cora (Maust) Faidley. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Galen N. Maust.
She was a homemaker and a member of St. John’s United Church of Christ, Salisbury, Pa., and a former member of the Somerset County Women.
Survivors include one son, Barry Maust, Grantsville; one daughter, Linda Snyder, Cumberland; one sister, Mildred Urbin, Garrett, Pa.; three grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
Friends were received at the Newman Funeral Home, Grantsville, where a service was conducted Wednesday, Nov. 10, with the Rev. Raymond Brown officiating. Interment was in the Salisbury Cemetery.

RUSSELL W. STOVER JR.
Russell W. Stover Jr., 71, Mountain Lake Park, died Sunday, Nov. 7, 1999, at the Dennett Road Manor Nursing Home, Oakland.
Born March 15, 1928, near Oakland, he was a son of the late Russell W. Stover Sr. and Edna M. (Beckman) Stover. He was also preceded in death by one sister, Rebecca Thomas.
He retired as manager of the Terra Alta (W.Va.) Stockyard. He was a graduate of Terra Alta High School and a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean Conflict. He was a member of Proctor Kildow Post 71, American Legion, Oakland, and Post 10077 VFW, Deer Park.
Survivors include his former wife, Leota P. (Friend) Stover; two daughters, Janie Beitzel, Springs, Pa., and Judy Ann Tran, Fort Lauderdale, Fla.; one son, David R. Stover, Delmont, Pa.; two sisters, Mildred Hardin, Cairo, Ga., and Virginia Field, Mineral Wells, W.Va.; two brothers, W. Dwight Stover Sr., Oakland, and Clifford E. Stover, Manchester; and five grandchildren.

HAZEL M. ROBERTSON
Hazel Mae Robertson, 88, Frostburg, died Monday, Nov. 8, 1999, at Sacred Heart Hospital, Cumberland.
Born Oct. 11, 1911, in Avilton, she was a daughter of the late Walter and Alice Rhoda (Whiteman) Chaney. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Homer Robertson; four brothers, Edgar, Oscar, Lawrence, and Paul Chaney; and four sisters, Violet Chaney, Marie Bennett, Ruth Crowe, and Vera Chaney.
She was formerly employed in the spinning department at the Celanese Fibers Corporation and was a former waitress at the Tally-Ho Restaurant, Frostburg. She was a member of the Frostburg Chapter 221 Women of the Moose, Farrady Unit 24 American Legion Auxiliary, and a lifelong member of the Brethren faith. She was an active member of the Frostburg Church of the Brethren, where she previously taught Sunday School, served in the choir, served as financial secretary and Sunday School secretary, and was a member of the women’s fellowship.
Survivors include one son, Robert H. Robertson, Bel Air; one brother, the Rev. Connell Chaney, Grantsville; one sister, Naomi Edsall, Frostburg; and two grandsons.
Friends were received at the Durst Funeral Home, Frostburg, where a service was conducted earlier today, Nov. 11, with the Rev. Rick Riley officiating. Interment was in Frostburg Memorial Park.

DANIEL L. WHITE SR.
Daniel Lester White Sr., 87, Oakland, died Tuesday, Nov. 9, 1999, at Garrett County Memorial Hospital, Oakland.
Born Nov. 12, 1911, near Deer Park, he was a son of the late George Alva and Emily Grace (Harvey) White. He was also preceded in death by one son, Gerald Roger White; three brothers, Leon White, Roy White, and Grant White; and one sister, Gertrude (White) Webster.
He was employed as Deputy Clerk of the Court in Oakland for 40 years, with the exception of the four years he served with the U.S. Army in the European Theater during World War II. He retired from his position with the Circuit Court in January 1977. He was a long standing member of the board of Commission on Aging in Garrett County, and also served as a representative for the commission. He served as a member of the board for the Garrett County Forest and Parks and was a charter member of the Methodist Men’s Club of Mountain Lake Park. As a member of the White United Methodist Church, where he attended, he served as Sunday School superintendent and held various offices in the church over the years.
Survivors include his wife, Thelma M. (Steyer) White; one daughter, Betty J. (White) VanSlycke, Olney; two sons, Daniel L. White Jr., Baltimore, and George T. White Sr., Oakland; seven grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
Friends were received at the Durst Funeral Home, Oakland. A service was conducted at the White United Methodist Church earlier today, Nov. 11. Interment was in the White Church Cemetery.
SUSAN E. ROSS
Susan Elizabeth (Green) Ross, 83, formerly of Piedmont, Baltimore, and then Arizona, died Sunday, Nov. 7, 1999, at the Boswell Memorial Hospital, Sun City, Ariz.
Born Dec. 3, 1915, in Beryl, W.Va., she was a daughter of the late Lewis Sylvester and Ola Eugenia (Fazenbaker) Green. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Walter Joseph Ross, in June, 1993; three brothers; and one sister.
She was a graduate of Piedmont High School. Following her marriage, she and her husband moved to Baltimore and then to Tilghman, where they resided until his death. In 1996 she moved to Arizona, where she resided with her daughter.
Surviving are two daughters, Susan Elizabeth McNeil, Sun City, and Patricia Ann Brickson, Peoria, Ariz.; one sister, Ola E Johnson, Grantsville; one granddaughter; and one great-granddaughter.
Friends were received at the Hafer Chapel of the Hills Mortuary, LaVale, where a service was conducted earlier today, Nov. 11, with the Rev. Charles A. Erzkus officiating. Interment was in the Philos Cemetery, Westernport.
JACQUELINE SUESS
Jacqueline 'Jackie' Suess, 50, Woodbridge, Va., formerly of Oakland, died Saturday, Oct. 30, 1999, at the home of her sister.
She was born Dec. 11, 1948, a daughter of Margaret L. Gallo, Ford City, Pa., and the late John J. Gallo.
In addition to her mother, she is survived by her children, Michael S. Suess, Lyndhurst, Ohio, Maggie J. Suess and Amy E. Suess, both of Oakland, and Jarrod S. Suess, Oakland, who is currently serving in the U.S. Navy; one sister, Colleen R. Shriver, Woodbridge; and her husband, J. Stevenson Suess, Butler, Pa.
At her request, her body was cremated and a private service was conducted Wednesday, Nov. 3, at Swallow Falls State Park. A memorial service will also be conducted at her church at a date to be announced.
TRANQUILLA C. BURGE
Tranquilla C. Burge, 81, Terra Alta, W.Va., died Wednesday, Oct. 27, 1999, at Cuppett-Weeks Nursing Home, Oakland.
Born Feb. 19, 1918, in Rossiter, Pa., she was a daughter of the late Jim and Lucy Creola Christe. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Carroll F. Burge, in 1997; two brothers, Donnie and George Christe; and one sister, Marrati Christe.
She was Protestant by faith. She worked at Safeway grocery stores, A&P, and the Retail Clerks Union.
Survivors include one son, Jim Burge, Terra Alta; one brother, Lawrence Christe, Maryland; and one sister, Amelia Pollo, Glenrock, N.J.
There was no visitation. A memorial service will be conducted at a later date.
The Arthur H. Wright Funeral Home, Terra Alta, is in charge of arrangements.
ROBERT F. SMITH SR.
Robert F. 'Bobby' Smith Sr., 71, Baltimore, died Wednesday, Oct. 27, 1999, in Frostburg.
He was a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean Conflict. He was retired from Baltimore City Highway Maintenance Department. He was a member of Frostburg Moose Lodge 348, Frostburg Eagles 1273, and American Legion Ft. McHenry Post 133.
Survivors include his former wife, Margaret (Skidmore) Green; four sons, Robert F. Smith Jr., Baltimore, Marsh G. Smith, Finzel, and John E. Smith and Norman Easton, both of Frostburg; one sister, Edith Smith, Baltimore; and two grandsons.
Friends were received at the McCully-Polyniak Funeral Home, Baltimore, where a service was conducted Monday, Nov. 1. Interment was in the Crownsville Veterans Cemetery.
