Harold G. Cannon Jr.
HURLOCK - Harold "Preach" Granville Cannon Jr., 54, passed away Thursday, Dec. 6, 2001 at the Dorchester General Hospital in Cambridge.
He was born Oct. 6, 1947 in Reliance. He was educated at Hurlock Elementary School No. 2 and Mace's Lane High School in Cambridge, where he graduated.
Mr. Cannon worked at various jobs in his lifetime including American Original in Cannon, Del., Diagora in Bridgeville, Del. and Harper and Bateman in Hurlock. He also worked as a seasonal worker.
Mr. Cannon is survived by his mother, Emma Williams of Seaford, Del.; three sisters, Barbara Franklin of Haines City, Fla., Gladys W. and Diane Williams of Seaford; one brother, Dex Cannon of Seaford; one brother-in-law, Calvin Williams; two sisters-in-law, Valerie Pharrah of Winterhaven, Fla. and Geraldine Cannon of Seaford and a number of nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his father, Harold Granville Cannon Sr.; a sister, Joyce Lee and two brothers, Charles Garrett Pharrah and Preston Cannon.
Funeral services will be held at noon today at the Olive Baptist Church in Bridgeville, Del. The family will receive friends two hours prior to the service at the church. Burial will follow at Cokesbury Cemetery at Rhodesdale.
Arrangements are being handled by the Bennie Smith Funeral Home in Seaford.
Richard Bradshaw Jr.
CAMBRIDGE - Richard Bradshaw Jr., 71, passed away Tuesday, Dec. 11, 2001 at his home. He had been in failing health for several years.
He was born April 29, 1930 in Cambridge, the son of the late Richard Bradshaw Sr. and the late Mary Elizabeth Price Dean.
Mr. Bradshaw had graduated from Cambridge High School in 1948. He had served in the U.S. Army from Oct. 8, 1951 until Oct. 8, 1953. On Aug. 1, 1958 he married the former Rebecca Murphy.
Mr. Bradshaw had worked at the Cambridge Wire Cloth Co. for 28 years and later worked as a cook at the Eastern Shore Hospital Center for 16 years until he retired several years ago.
He was a member of the Cambridge Wesleyan Church and was also an exempt member of Rescue Fire Company Inc. He was a past president of the Cambridge Little League and also a past president of the Cambridge Youth Bowling.
In addition to his wife he is survived by one son, Ricky A. Bradshaw of Cambridge; two grandchildren, Ricky Anthony Bradshaw Jr., Joshua Richard Bradshaw; one sister and brother-in-law, Lorraine B. and Harold L. Willey of Cambridge; one brother, Benjamin F. Bradshaw of Cambridge and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Mary E. Ruark.
A funeral service will be held 1 p.m. Saturday at the Cambridge Wesleyan Church with the Rev. Barry L. Miller officiating. Burial will follow at the East New Market Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Saturday during the hour preceding the service.

Herminio M. Ramirez Jr.
HURLOCK - Herminio Mario "Terry" Ramirez Jr., 8, died at Children's Hospital in Washington, D.C. on Monday, Dec. 10, 2001.
He was born Aug. 17, 1993 in Easton, the son of Herminio Mario Ramirez Sr. and Evyonne Lucretia Green Ramirez of Hurlock.
He was a second grade student at Hurlock Elementary School. He was a member of St. Luke's Church of God in Christ in Federalsburg.
In addition to his parents, he is survived by a sister, Rassida Latoya Monique "Angel" Jenkins of Hurlock and his maternal grandfather, Jacob Green of Hurlock and his paternal grandfather, Vincente Ramirez of Huehurlenago, Guatemala.
He was preceded in death by his grandmother, Verdell Green.
Funeral services for him will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday at Farmers Memorial Church in Jonestown with burial following at the church cemetery.
Friends may call at the Framptom-Hawkins-Eskow Funeral Home from 6 to 8 tonight and one hour prior to the service at the church Saturday.

Wilsie M. Todd
CAMBRIDGE - Wilsie Mae Todd, 92, passed away on Wednesday, Dec. 12, 2001 at the Glasgow Nursing Home.
Graveside services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday at Dorchester Memorial Park with the Rev. James Gardner officiating.
Arrangements are being handled by the Thomas Funeral Home in Cambridge.
Mary J. H. Loubey
SECRETARY - Mary Jane Hoose Loubey, 57, died Monday, Dec. 10, 2001 at the Dorchester General Hospital in Cambridge.
She was born Oct. 29, 1944 in New Rochelle, N.Y., daughter of the late Donald J. Hoose and De'Alvam Miller Hoose.
Mrs. Loubey was a graduate of the University of Maryland with a degree in home economics and interior design. Along with her husband, she owned and operated Nanticoke Cleaners in Federalsburg until the sale of the business a year and a half ago.
Her hobbies included playing the keyboard and learning to knit.
She was a member of Our Lady of Good Counsel Catholic Church in Secretary.
Mrs. Loubey is survived by her husband, Donald John Loubey of Secretary; a stepson, David W. Loubey of Vancouver, Wash.; two stepgranddaughters and three cousins.
She was preceded in death by a brother, Richard Livingston Hoose and her stepmother, Virginia H. Hoose.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Monday at Our Lady of Good Counsel Catholic Church in Secretary. The Rev. Anthony F. Greco will be the celebrant. Burial will follow in Dorchester Memorial Park in Cambridge.
The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday at the Zeller Funeral Home in East New Market where a prayer service will be held at 8 p.m.
Miguel L. Beulah
FEDERALSBURG - Miguel Lamar Beulah, 21, passed away Saturday, Dec. 8, 2001.
He was born Aug. 28, 1980 in Dorchester, son of Chenelle Blake of Hurlock and Miguel Beulah of Federalsburg.
He attended the public schools of Caroline County and graduated with the class of 1999 at Colonel Richardson High School. He worked for Victory Packaging in Federalsburg at the time of his death.
Besides his parents, Mr. Beulah is survived by his stepfather, Sylvester Wongus of Hurlock; godmother, Charlene Smith of Fairmont, W. Va.; two grandmothers, Faye Smith and Cleo M. Beulah of Federalsburg; two great-grandmothers, Nettie Groves of Seaford, Del. and Margaret Ann Prattis of Federalsburg; three brothers, Wendall Wongus, Sylvester Wongus of Hurlock; and Shawn Warner of Cambridge; seven aunts: Tonydra Smith, Charlestine Defines of Hurlock, Onelle Smith, Toni Beulah, Natasha Beulah and Amelia Pinchens, all of Federalsburg and Karen Pinchens of Seaford, Del.; two uncles, Richard Smith of Federalsburg and Lorenzo Smith of Hurlock. He is also survived by nine great-aunts and eight great-uncles and a number of other relatives.
Preceding him in death was a grandmother, Betty Lou Matthews and grandfather, James Matthews.
Funeral services will be held 1 p.m. Saturday at the Hurlock United Methodist Church.
Friends may call at the Bennie Smith Funeral Home Chapel in Hurlock from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday.
Herman E. Rhue
HURLOCK - Herman Eugene Rhue, 73, died Thursday, Dec. 13, 2001 at Dorchester General Hospital in Cambridge.
He is survived by his wife, Martha "Patty" R. Rhue; two sons, Michael E. Rhue of Blades, Del. and Jerry L. Rhue Sr. of Hurlock and one daughter, Patty Rhue Vincent of Salisbury.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 9 p.m. Monday at Unity Washington United Methodist Church in Hurlock.
Funeral services will be held 2 p.m. Tuesday at the church.

Barbara A. Jackson
SEAFORD, Del. - Barbara Ann Jackson, 61, formerly of Federalsburg, died Thursday, Dec. 13, 2001 at the Christiana Medical Center in Newark, Del.
She was born May 20, 1940 in Federalsburg, the daughter of the late Ruby C. and Brooks Donovan. Her former husband, Jerry Kenneth Mode, preceded her in death.
Mrs. Jackson attended Federalsburg High School. She was presently employed by Maryland Plastics Co. in Federalsburg where she had worked in the wire department for many years.
She is survived by her husband, Paul Jackson, of Seaford, Del.; three sons, William Edward Hutson and his wife, Marietta, of Federalsburg, Michael James Hutson and his wife, Barbara Jean of Federalsburg and Kenneth Randall Mode of Greenwood, Del.; three stepdaughters, Shuryl, Kathy and Cindy Jackson; six grandchildren, Tiffany, Eddie Jr., Christy, Michael, Michael A. Wroten and Jerry; three step-granddaughters; two brothers, Wayne Southard and Ronald Southard, both of Federalsburg; two nephews and a granddaughter-in-law, Kimberly Robyn Wroten.
Funeral services will be held 2 p.m. Sunday at Framptom-Hawkins-Eskow Funeral Home, P.A. in Federalsburg with the Rev. Denzil Cheek officiating. Burial will follow at Bloomery Cemetery in Smithville, Md.
Friends may call at the funeral home from 1- 2 p.m. on Sunday.
Ellis C. Lednum Jr.
HURLOCK - Ellis Clayton Lednum Jr., 57, died Wednesday, Dec. 12, 2001 at the Dorchester General Hospital in Cambridge.
He was born in Tilghman, the son of the late Ellis C. Sr. and Mary Esther Lomax Lednum.
Mr. Lednum was a member of the Mid-Shore Community Church in Easton.
He is survived by his wife of 20 years, Georgeann M. Lednum of Hurlock; two sons, Ellis C. Lednum III and James E. Lednum; stepchildren, George Adkins, Robert Adkins, James A. Matthews Jr., Samuel M. Matthews and Denise E. Murphy; two sisters, Linda M. Gerkin of Easton and Mary Jane Lednum of Salisbury and 12 grandchildren.
Mr. Lednum was preceded in death by a brother, Thomas E. Lednum and a sister, Katherine L. Parks.
A memorial service was held Dec. 15 at the Harrison E. Leonard Funeral Home in St. Michaels.
Wilsie M. Todd
CAMBRIDGE - Wilsie Mae Todd, formerly of Crocheron, passed away at the Glasgow Nursing Home in Cambridge on Wednesday, Dec. 12, 2001. She was 92.
She was born in Crocheron on Jan. 13, 1909 and was the daughter of the late Arthur E. and Flossie B. Jones Todd.
She attended schools in Crocheron. Some years ago she had attended Bethany United Methodist Church.
Miss Todd had been in failing health for a number of years and had been a resident of the Glasgow Nursing Home in Cambridge for the past 30 years.
She is survived by a sister-in-law, Annabell Todd of Crocheron; one niece, Alene McGlaughlin of Bishops Head; one nephew, Edwin S. Todd of Crocheron and several cousins.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a sister, Nellie Ruark and two brothers, William Brion Todd and William Carroll Todd.
A graveside service will be held on Monday at 11 a.m. at Dorchester Memorial Park with the Rev. James Gardner officiating. There will be no viewing.
Pallbearers will be Jira McGlaughlin, Edward McGlaughlin, Edwin S. Todd, Steve Aaron, George Hyde III and Rudy Aaron. Arrangements are being handled by the Thomas Funeral Home.
Herman E. Rhue
CAMBRIDGE - Herman Eugene Rhue of Hurlock died Thursday, Dec. 13, 2001 at Dorchester Memorial Hospital. He was 73.
Born Dec. 2, 1928, he was the son of the late Herman A. Rhue and Eunice Todd Rhue. As a young man, he worked with his father on their dairy farm in Hurlock.
He later worked for the Wilson Oil Company in Hurlock where he made many friends. He was fondly known by his friends as "Daddy Rhue."
Mr. Rhue was a truly dedicated fireman. He was a 44-year member of the Hurlock Volunteer Fire Company, during which time he held many offices, including chief for seven years.
He was also a member of the Dorchester County Firemen's Association for many years, where he served in many offices, including president; member of the Eastern Shroe Firemen's Association, where he was inducted into the Hall of Fame in 1986; member of the Maryland State Firemen's Association, where he served on many committees, including the Executive Committee for nine years, the Training Committee, chairman of the Rural Water Supply Committee and was inducted into their Hall of Fame in 1986; and member of the Maryland Fire and Rescue Institute, where he worked as an instructor for various fire classes across the Eastern Shore. In 1978, he was the state of Maryland's first recipient of the Fireman of the Year Award.
He was a member of Unity-Washington United Methodist Church in Hurlock where he had been a member for more than 50 years. He served the church in many capacities, including trustee, church school superintendent and on the Building Committee for the Fellowship Hall expansion in 1957.
He was a member and past officer of the Junior Order of United American Mechanics. He served on the Dorchester County Election Board and worked as chief election judge for the town of Hurlock for many years.
He is survived by his wife Martha "Patty" Rhue of Hurlock; two sons and daughters-in-law, Michael E. and Pamela Rhue of Blades, Del., and Jerry L. and Shelby Rhue Sr. of Hurlock; one daughter and son-in-law, Patty and Terry Vincent of Salisbury; two grandchildren, Jerry L. Rhue Jr. and Kelsie A. Vincent; one sister and brother-in-law, Virginia and William Naugle of Hurlock; and several nieces and nephews.
There will be a viewing today from 6-9 p.m. at Unity-Washington United Methodist Church in Hurlock, where a memorial service will be held by the Maryland State Firemen's Association at 7:30 p.m. A funeral will be held Tuesday at 2 p.m. at Unity-Washington Church, where the Rev. Ruth Tull will officiate, assisted by the Rev. Lloyd R. Foard.
Burial will follow in Unity-Washington Cemetery.

Samuel B. Johnson
CAMBRIDGE - Samuel Bruster Johnson passed away on Wednesday, Dec. 12, 2001 at Chesapeake Woods Elder Care Center. He was 69.
Mr. Johnson was born Aug. 17, 1932 in Crapo, the youngest son of the late Arthur and Dolly Young Johnson. He attended public schools in Dorchester County, graduating from Mace's Lane High School in the Class of 1949.
He was employed at several seafood industries. After moving to Cambridge, he worked at Harper and Bateman in Hurlock. His last employment was with Chun King, after which he retired.
In addition to his wife, Arlene Cooper Johnson, he is survived by four children, Belinda Johnson of Baltimore, Regina Hughes of Denton, Samuel Johnson Jr. of Wilmington, Del., and Michelle Robinson of Quantico, Md.; seven grandchildren, four great-grandchildren; one brother, Addison Johnson of Cambridge; four sisters, Lottie Jolley and Monzella Woolford, both of Cambridge; Prevady Payton of Baltimore and Serena Gregg of Upper Marlboro; numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by two brothers, Gothlee Johnson Sr. and the Rev. Nelson Johnson; and a sister, Marvell McCoy.
A funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. Tuesday at St. Luke United Methodist Church with the Rev. Darlene Dixon officiating. Burial will follow at Bethel Cemetery.
There will be a viewing today from 7-8 p.m. at the Henry Funeral Home and another one hour prior to the service.
Robert Y. Wright
EASTON - Robert Y. Wright, 77, died Monday, Dec. 17, 2001 at William Hill Manor in Easton.
He was born Aug. 28, 1924 in Cambridge, the son of the late Earl Hunter and Louise Bowdle Wright.
His family moved to Detroit, Mich. in 1926 when his father became controller for the Cadillac Division of General Motors. Mr. Wright graduated from Lincoln High School in 1942 and attended Albion College for his freshman year.
He joined the United States Navy in 1943 and Central Michigan College for Officer's training, as part of the Navy V-12 Program. He was commissioned as an ensign from Notre Dame in 1944 and served for two years in the Marianas Islands and Okinawa regions as commanding officer of LST and LCT craft.
After receiving his honorable discharge in 1946, Lt. Wright returned to complete his degree in business from Wayne State University in Detroit. After graduation, he joined his brother (Hunter) and father in purchasing Huron Hardware and International Harvester dealerships in Harbor Beach, Mich.
On June 25, 1949 he married the former Alma Argo of St. Louis, Mo. The couple moved to Easton in 1953, where he worked for the Young Men's Shop for two years. He then worked for Atkinson's Department Store in Easton as store manager.
The store was purchased in 1966 by R.E. Powell & Company, a chain of 13 stores in five states. Mr. Wright served on the Board of Directors and was a vice president for the corporation.
In 1969, Mr. Wright started Wright's Fabrics, which specialized in dress fabrics, drapery fabrics, sewing machines and bed, bath and table linens until his semi-retirement in 1992. The store, which has been in business for more than 30 years, is managed today by Mr. Wright's youngest son, Kevin.
Mr. Wright was an active member of the community during his years in Easton. He served as Easton Little League president for two one-year terms.
He was president of the Downtown Easton Merchants' Association on four different occasions. He helped establish the Chesapeake Credit Bureau and was president for its first 10 years of operation. He also served a term as chairman of the Downtown Planning Council and of the Easton Parking Commission.
He was also active in Christ Episcopal Church, serving as a vestry member, budget committee chairman and chairman of the Bishop's Pastoral Relations Committee. He was a former member and officer of the Easton Lions Club, Easton Elks Lodge BPO 1622 and a Mason with the Huron Lodge AF & AM in Badaxe, Mich. for 50 years.
In addition to his wife "Al," Mr. Wright is survived by two sons, Gary Wright and his wife, Janet of Glenwood and Kevin Wright and his wife, Connie of Denton; two brothers, E. Hunter Wright of St. Joseph, Mich. and Jesse B. Wright of California; five grandchildren: Allyson Wright of Ellicott City, Lance Cpl. Tara Gannon of Camp Lejeune, N.C., Brian Wright of Glenwood, Mallory Wright and Robert Hunter Wright, both of Denton.
Funeral services will be held 2 p.m. Friday at the Fellows, Helfenbein & Newnam Funeral Home, P.A. in Easton. Burial will be at Woodlawn Memorial Park, Easton.
Friends may call at the funeral home from 6 to 8 tonight.

Elizabeth Burton
WILMINGTON, Del. - Elizabeth "Betty" Burton, 86, formerly of Cambridge, died Tuesday, Dec. 11, 2001 at Shipley Manor in Wilmington.
She worked for the Rob Roy Shirt Factory in Cambridge for several years. Mrs. Burton retired as a cashier at Action True Value Hardware Store in Branmar Plaza, Wilmington with more than 20 years of service.
She was an avid shuffleboard player, serving as captain and co-captain of the Durnettes Shuffleboard Team of the Charles E. Durney American Legion Post 27, Wilmington, for many years.
Mrs. Burton is survived by her children, Marie Curry Burroughs and her husband Raymond of Media, Pa., Virginia Blades Gaynor and her husband Walter of Claymont, Del. and Raymond D. Blades of Elkton; family friend Frank B. Springer; siblings Charles C. Coates of Cambridge, Louise Towers and Raymond W. Coates, both of Linkwood, and Bernice Carter of Reistertown. She is also survived by grandchildren Ralph, Dennis, Gary, Ricky Curry and David and John Gaynor; seven great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; six nieces and one nephew.
She was preceded in death by her brothers Robert W. Raleigh, James H. Coates and William F. Coates and niece Jane Towers.
A funeral service was held Dec. 15 at Spicer-Mullikin Funeral Home in New Castle. Entombment followed in Gracelawn Memorial Park, New Castle.

Marion F. Waters
SEAFORD, Del. - Marion R. Waters, 72, passed away Monday, Dec. 17, 2001 at the Nanticoke Memorial Hospital.
She was born Sept. 6, 1929 in Vienna.
She was affiliated with Our Lady of Lourdes Roman Catholic Church and was president of the Concord Community Neighborhood Watch.
Her survivors include her husband, Leon R. Waters of Seaford, Del.; four sons, Allen J. Waters of Seaford, Donald E. Waters of Laurel, Del., Forrest R. Waters of Slidell, La., Michael A. Waters of San Antonio, Texas; one stepson, Leon Bolden of Seaford, Del.; three daughters, Doris E. Farmer of Nanasia, Va., Violet Waters and Elisa D. George of Seaford, Del.; one sister, Rachel Jackson of Reid's Grove; 18 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren and a number of nieces, nephews and cousins.
Services will be held 11 a.m. Friday at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church in Seaford, with burial following at Cokesbury Cemetery in Cokesbury.
Friends may call from 9:45 to 11 a.m. Friday at the church.
