Mary B. Todd
CAMBRIDGE - Mary Blanche "Nanny" Todd, 92, passed away early Saturday morning, May 4, 2002. She was the wife of the late Bradye P. Todd.
She was born Aug. 20, 1909, at Todd Point, the daughter of the late William Edward and Mollie Vane Lowry. She was raised and attended public schools in Dorchester County.
On Oct. 7, 1933 she was married to Mr. Todd. After residing in Cambridge for a brief time they moved to Crocheron where she made her home until Mr. Todd's death on Jan. 5, 1984, at which time she moved to Cambridge.
Mrs. Todd devoted her entire life to her husband and family, particularly through her contributions to the family businesses, first in Crocheron at the Bradye P. Todd Seafood Co. where she helped with all aspects of its operations and later at Ocean Odyssey in Cambridge. There she continued to serve as bookkeeper through 2000 and as sous chef and baker until the present.
In her spare time she could be found sewing, knitting or crocheting afghans or little outfits for her grandchildren. She was a Christian with a love for gospel music. For years she traveled throughout the shore as pianist with the Bethany Quartet and The Todd Family. She was well known for her alto voice.
Mrs. Todd was still a member of Bethany United Methodist Church at Crocheron and since the age of 8 had been associated with the Pilgrim Holiness/Wesleyan Church. Mrs. Todd was currently attending the First Baptist Church in Cambridge.
She is survived by one daughter, Mary Lee Huster and her husband, Fred of Kent Island; one son, Roy P. Todd and his wife, Barbara of Cambridge; five grandchildren: Pam Decraecke, John Toby Todd, Laura Leigh Todd, Jordan Travis Todd and Deenie L. Todd, and two stepgrandchildren, Fred Huster Jr. and Kelly Channell; seven stepgreat-grandchildren; a sister-in-law, Anna "Tootsie" Mills and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by three sisters: Maggie Wheeler, Reba Booze and Emma Brooks and three brothers: the Rev. Earl W. Lowry, the Rev. William Merrick Lowry, and John O. Lowry.
A funeral service will be conducted 1 p.m. Wednesday at the Cambridge Wesleyan Church by the Revs. Barry L. Miller, Mary Ann Farnell, and Randall T. Blackmon. Burial will take place in Dorchester Memorial Park.
Friends will be received at the Thomas Funeral Home from 7 to 9 p.m. on Tuesday.

Mattie M. Williams
CAMBRIDGE - Mattie M. Williams, 78, died Friday, May 3, 2002 at Talbot Hospice House in Easton.
She was born on March 10, 1924 in Lakesville, in Dorchester County, the daughter of the late Edward and Alice Burton Williams.
Miss Williams was a member of Souls Harbor Church of God, Cambridge, and the Ladies Ministries of the church.
She had been employed by Coldwater Seafood, and R.J. Reynolds.
Surviving is her sister Mabel Paul of Cambridge; godchildren, Jamie Diaz and Lee Diaz, both of Linkwood; special friends, Winnie White, Hazel Holley, Dorothy Goldberg, Marian Woolford, Becky and Walt Trice, Johnny Ponder, and several nieces and nephews.
Preceding her in death besides her parents were two sisters, Pearl Baker, Madeline Williams and two brothers, Limburg Williams and Oscar Williams.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Tuesday at Souls Harbor Church of God, 718 Peachblossom Ave., Cambridge where a visitation will be held one hour prior to the service. Officiating at the service will be the Rev. J. Edward King, pastor of Souls Harbor Church of God. Burial will follow in Greenlawn Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Frank Bell, Thomas Wagner, James Fitzhugh, James Gorski, Richard King, Walter Trice and Terry Wyatt.
Honorary Pallbearers will be Roger Boggess, Johnny Ponder and Ulman
White.

James A. W. Todd Jr.
FEDERALSBURG - James A. W. Todd Jr., 44, passed away at his home on Wednesday, May 1, 2002.
He was born on March 18, 1958 in Cambridge, the son of James Allen Webster and Delores Jones Todd. He was raised in Toddville by his parents and an aunt, Alva Mills.
Mr. Todd was a 1976 graduate of South Dorchester High School and in March of 1983 enlisted in the U. S. Army, later receiving a medical discharge. Mr. Todd was a truck driver by trade and for the past 13 years had been employed as a transport driver at Tri Gas and Oil in Federalsburg. Prior to that he drove for G.W. Hall Seafood Co.
He is survived by his wife, the former Ann Aspien, to whom he was married on Oct. 4, 1987; one son, Raven J. Todd;, his parents, who reside at Wingate; three sisters: Lynda Thomas of Golden Hill, Lisa Dawson of Wingate and Lori Marshall of Cambridge. He is also survived by a godchild, Jeremy Dryden, and several aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews.
A funeral service will be conducted 1 p.m. today at the Thomas Funeral by the Rev. George W. Wheatley, Jr. Burial will take place in the Maryland Veterans' Cemetery at Beulah. Friends will be received at the funeral home on Monday during the hour before the service.

Barbara L. Coppage
PRESTON - Barbara Lee Coppage, 60, died Friday, May 3, 2002 at her home on Harmony Road near Preston.
She was born on Sept. 23, 1941 in Easton, the daughter of the late Dallas W. and Albertine Schulke Cartwright.
Mrs. Coppage was a graduate of Preston High School's Class of 1958. She was a homemaker and was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church in Preston. She was also a member of Rughookers Pearl K. McGown.
She is survived by her husband of 42 years, Samuel Coppage, of Preston; an aunt, Alice McCulley of Seaford, Del.; an uncle, Lee Cartwright of Goldsborough; two cousins and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services for her will be held 2 p.m. today at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Preston, with the Rev. Neil Andersen, officiating. Friends may call at the church from 1 - 2 p.m. preceding the service. Burial will follow in the Junior Order Cemetery in Preston.
Serving as pallbearers will be Ryan Todd, Jeff Coppage, Mark Burrows, John Coppage, Michael Glanden and Billy Creighton.

Alfred J. Ludgrove
BRIDGEVILLE, Del. - Alfred J. Ludgrove, 87, passed away Friday, April 26, 2002 at Harrison house of Georgetown, Del.
He was born April 4, 1915 in London, England, the son of the late George and Mimmie Conoway.
Burial will be private.

Joseph E. McCready
CAMBRIDGE - Joseph Edward McCready, 80, died Friday, May 3, 2002 at Dorchester General Hospital following a brief illness.
Mr. McCready was born Sept. 22, 1921 in Cambridge, the second of five children of the late Stella McCready and James Thomas.
He attended schools at Crapo where he was raised. He was wounded while serving in the U.S. Army as a combat infantryman d uring World War II. During almost three years of military service, he received numerous awards and honors, including the Purple Heart, Bronze Star, World War II Victory Ribbon, American Theater Service Ribbon, European African Middle Eastern Service Ribbon and the Good Conduct Medal.
Following his discharge from the military, Mr. McCready returned to Cambridge, where he worked many years for the Nuttle Lumber Co. Later he was employed by the Dorchester County Board of Education from which he retired January 1991.
Mr. McCready was a member of the John Wesley Methodist Church. Following closure of that church, he transferred his membership to Waugh United Methodist Church in Cambridge.
On Jan. 23, 1947 Mr. McCready married Elizabeth Mathews. From that marriage there were two children born, Donald and Timothy McCready, who reside in Glen Burnie and Columbia, respectively.
In addition to his wife and sons, he is survived by two daughters-in-law, Carolyn McCready of Glen Burnie and Brenda McCready of Columbia; three grandchildren, Sean, Monique and Timothy II; a great-grandchild, Isabel McCready; one brother, Dempsey McCready of Chester, Pa.; two sisters, Clementine Perkins of Chester, Pa. and Annie Ennels of Baltimore, several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Besides his parents, Mr. McCready was preceded in death by three sisters, Dora McCready, Jennie Wilkins, and Agnes Ennals and three brothers, Harvey and James Elliott and Sharkey McCready.
A funeral service will be held noon Wednesday at Waugh Chapel UM Church with the Rev. Dr. William T. Wallace Sr. officiating. Burial will follow at the Maryland Veterans' Cemetery at Beulah. Friends may visit one hour preceding the service at the church.

George P. McCready
CAMBRIDGE - George Purnell McCready, 87, passed away Thursday, Dec. 19, 2002 at home.
He was born June 8, 1915 in Crapo, the son of the late David and Dorothy McCeady.
Mr. McCready attended public schools in Dorchester County. He was a U.S. Army veteran.
He was employed by Bogash Garment Factory and later became a truck driver for Harper and Bateman, before retiring.
His survivors include two sons, William Cornish and Larrell Cornish; three daughters, Sharon Killette (Clevon), Carolyn Cornish and Terri Cornish, all of Cambridge; two brothers, Kenneth (Jake) McCready and Moses McCready, of Baltimore; five grandchildren; five great-grandchildren and a number of nieces, nephews and cousins.
Mr. McCready was preceded in death by three brothers, James (Petey-Jim), Edward (Blue) and David (Windfield); and one sister, Gussie.
Services will be held 1 p.m. Saturday at the Greater Mt. Olive Full Gospel Baptist Church in Cambridge. A viewing will be held from 2-8 p.m. today at the Bennie Smith Funeral Home in Cambridge. Burial will be in Bethel Cemetery in Cambridge.
Dorothy E. Hubbard
EASTON - Dorothy "Jinx" Ewell Hubbard, 73, died Monday, April 29, 2002 at her home.
She was born June 20, 1928 in New York, the daughter of the late Thomas Jefferson and Grace Dolan Ewell.
She attended school in New York, Florida, Ohio and Maryland, and graduated from Agnes Seton High School in Baltimore in 1947. She married William F. Hubbard Jr. of Cambridge in 1948. They resided in Chevy Chase.
She was a successful real estate agent in Annapolis prior to moving to Easton, where she was an active member of her church as a lector and Eucharistic minister. Mrs. Hubbard also volunteered with the Talbot Hospice Association and delivered bread for the poor at Bethany Church in Easton.
Survivors include her mother, Mary S. Ewell of Cambridge; her children: William F. Hubbard III of North Wales, Pa., Jefferson Ewell Hubbard of Cambridge, Lisa A. Hubbard of Bowie; niece Laurie Taylor Clark of Hockessin, Del.; grandchildren: Matthew W. Hubbard, Donald W. Hresko, Carly M. Hresko, Brian M. Hresko; grand-nephew Tyler Clark and grand-niece Melanie Clark.
She was preceded in death by her sister, Mary Elizabeth (Nikki Ewell) Taylor.
There will be a Mass of Christian Burial held 11:30 a.m. Saturday at SS. Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Easton.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the American Heart Association, 501 Dutchman's Lane, Easton, MD 21601.

John T. Jews
CAMBRIDGE - John Thomas Jews, 79, passed away on Saturday, April 27, 2002 at Dorchester General Hospital after a long illness.
He was born Feb. 25, 1923, son of the late Esther S. Camper-Jews and Thomas Jews of Cambridge.
He attended the public schools in Dorchester County and was self-employed all of his life as a local farmer. Mr. Jews attended St. Luke Church for many years.
He was a resident of the Brooks Care Home for some time and also resided at the Mallard Bay Care Center.
Mr. Jews is survived by a brother, Robert Jews of Cambridge and a number of other relatives.
Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Cinderella Kane.
Funeral services will be held 1 p.m. Friday at St. Luke United Methodist Church in Cambridge, where friends may call two hours prior to the service. Burial will be held in Hughes Mission Cemetery in Cambridge.
Arrangements are being handled by the Bennie Smith Funeral Home in Cambridge.
Walter R. Thomas Sr.
ST. MICHAELS - Walter Rudolph Thomas Sr., 66, died Monday, April 30, 2002 at his home.
He was born Feb. 16, 1936 in Bellevue, son of the late Charles Roger Thomas Sr. and Thelma Irene Holland.
Mr. Thomas attended the public schools of Talbot County. His employment years were spent working as a truck driver for the Lindsey Seafood Co. in Woolford until his health failed. He then did lawn maintenance for local residents.
Mr. Thomas attended Union United Methodist Church in St. Michaels.
On Oct. 11, 1968 he married Leah Wilson.
Mr. Thomas' survivors include his wife of 44 years of St. Michaels; a son, Walter R. Thomas Jr. of Trappe; two daughters, Theresa A. Thomas of Easton, Latrish Young of Wilmington, Del.; two granddaughters, Sandra Yvette Thomas of Springfield, Ill., Chadney N. Freeman of Easton; and one grandson, Michael Anthony Thomas of Harrisburg, Ill.
He is also survived by two step-grandchildren, Christopher Lee Scott of Missouri, Justin Bryan Scott of Cambridge; a daughter-in-law, Gloria Jean Thomas of Trappe; two sisters, Doris N. Cannon and Aretta D. Ritch, both of St. Michaels; three brothers, Charles E. Thomas Jr. of Millville, N.J., Alvin M. Thomas of Bellevue, Marvin R. Thomas of Baltimore; two brothers-in-law, Wilson Cannon of St. Michaels, Ernest Ritch of St. Michaels; two sisters-in-law, Sylvia Thomas of Bellevue and Cynthia Thomas of Baltimore; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Franklin E. Thomas.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday at Union UM Church in St. Michaels with the Rev. Arthur George officiating. Burial will follow in the Charles Thomas Memorial Park. Friends may call two hours prior to the service.

Marjorie J. VanderClock
CAMBRIDGE - Marjorie J. VanderClock, 72, passed away on Sunday, March 31, 2002 at the Chesapeake Woods Center. She was the wife of John W. VanderClock.
A memorial service will be conducted at St. John's Chapel at Cornersville at 11 a.m. Sunday. The Rev. Richard E. Hayes will officiate.
Memorials may be made to either St. John's Chapel at Cornersville or the National Parkinson Foundation, Inc.
James A. W. Todd Jr.
FEDERALSBURG - James A. W. Todd Jr., 44, passed away Wednesday, May 1, 2002 at his home. Mr. Todd was a transport driver for Tri Gas and Oil of Federalsburg.

Arvell F. Chester
PHILADELPHIA, Pa. - Arvell Florena Chester, 78, died Tuesday, May 30, 2002 at the Medical College of Pennsylvania Hospital.
She was born Aug. 16, 1923, daughter of the late Robert and Mamie Chester.
She was raised in Cordtown with her nine brothers and sisters. Ms. Chester attended Cordtown School and was the first of her siblings to graduate from the 11th grade at St. Clair High School in 1939.
For many years she worked in the cannery and then as a seamstress at Rob Roy Factory.
Ms. Chester became a Christian early in life. She was a member of Union Chapel AME Church where her entire family were members. She sang in the choir and was one of the original Sunrise Singers until she moved her family to Philadelphia in 1962.
She was employed at Benjamin Nobles Factory.
She joined the Morris Brown AME Church in 1963 and was encouraged to join the Celestial Choir. Ms. Chester stayed active in the church and was a member of the Steward Board and the Pastor's Aide where she served as president for a number of years.
More recently she was a Class Leader, but had to resign because of health reasons. She attended church whenever able after her health began to fail.
On March 14, she entered the hospital and was later transferred to the Medical College of Pennsylvania Hospital.
Ms. Chester is survived by seven children: James, Doretha (Harry), Danny, Jacqueline, Darlene, Davey and Eric (Jacqueline); three sisters, Reba Jones, Francis Brown and Bertina Cornish; 19 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren and a number of nieces, nephews and cousins.
Funeral services will be held Saturday in Philadelphia. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday at the Henry Funeral Home in Cambridge. Burial will be held 11 a.m. Monday in Cordtown Cemetery.
Sherry B. Jones
LAKELAND, Fla. - Sherry Bramble Jones, 45, died at her home on Friday, May 10, 2002. Mrs. Bramble was a longtime resident of Cam-bridge before moving to Lakeland in 1992.
She is the daughter of Shirley Mills Bramble, also of Florida and the late Ger-ald D. Bramble.
Mrs. Bramble is survived by her husband, Wallace L. Jones; daughter, Casey L. Jones and son, Wallace L. Jones Jr.; two sisters, Donna B. Flowers of Fishing Creek and Karen L. Bramble of Lakeland; three brothers, Gerald D. Bramble Jr. of Wilmington, Del., Maurice Bramble of Cambridge and Michael G. Bramble, also of Lakeland.
Besides her father she was preceded in death by a sis-ter, Patricia B. Hollerman.
Funeral services will be held in Florida.
Walter L. Harper
CAMBRIDGE - Walter Lee Harper of Cambridge passed away at Dorchester General Hospital on Thursday, May 9, 2002. He was 78.
He was born in Cambridge on Dec. 16, 1923, the son of the late Herbert Lee and Marguerite Frances Phillips Harper.
Mr. Harper had attended schools in Cambridge, where he graduated from Cambridge High School in 1941. He had also attended the University of Virginia at Charlottesville.
He was a member of Zion United Methodist Church in Cambridge. For many years, he had been an avid collector of 45 r.p.m. records, stamps and books.
He also enjoyed painting the family coat of arms and portraits of flowers he had grown in his garden. He spent many hours at the Dorchester County Library researching various subjects including genealogy.
He had also written a number of articles for various magazines. Mr. Harper loved flowers and animals and spent a great deal of time visiting patients at the local nursing homes.
He had been a patient at the Mallard Day Nursing Home since last August and was a patient at Dorchester General Hospital where he passed away on Thursday afternoon.
Mr. Harper is survived by two sisters, Sally Frampton of Cambridge and Alice May Cole of Preston; one niece, Sally Collins of Easton; two nephews, Joseph W. Frampton Jr. of Salisbury and Marion Pusey Jr. of Salisbury; one aunt, Mary Alice Phillips of Cambridge and several cousins.
A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday morning at the Thomas Funeral Home in Cambridge with the Rev. A. Delmer Willey officiating. Burial will follow at Cambridge Cemetery.
