Ralph Dennis White Sr.
EAST NEW MARKET - Ralph Dennis White Sr., 85, died Wednesday, July 24, 2002 at the Seaford Center in Seaford, Del.
He as born Oct. 4, 1916 in Pittsville, son of the late Herman Freeny White and Martha Ellen Dennis White.
Mr. White retired Jan. 1, 1978 from DuPont in Seaford where he had worked as a mechanic.
He was a member of the Roelma Lodge 206, A.F. & A.M. in Sharptown, where in 1964 he became a Master Mason.
Mr. White is survived by his wife, Bertha C. White of East New Market; one daughter and her husband, Jacqueline and Bill Dukes of Seaford; one son and his wife, Ralph D. and Harriet White Jr. of Eldorado; two granddaughters; four grandsons and 10 great-grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one son, Donald James White; one brother, James Roy White; one half brother, Wilmer Jackson; one half sister, Laura Wells.
Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Saturday at the Zeller Funeral Home in East New Market with the Rev. Carol Terry officiating. Burial will follow in Cokesbury Cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Friday at the funeral home and one hour prior to the service on Saturday.
Pallbearers will be Jimmy White, Dennis White, Charles Collins, Eddie Collins, Hank Rickards and Bill Henry Buckaloo.

MaryEllen A. Ramirez
SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. - MaryEllen Aaron Ramirez, 71, died Tuesday, July 2, 2002.
She was born Aug. 11, 1930 in Cambridge, the daughter of the late William Cecil and Ellen Bell Aaron. She was raised and attended schools in Cambridge.
Mrs. Ramirez retired in 1986 from Letchworth Village State School in Thiells, N.Y. after 25 years of service. She was also a retired CSEA Member.
She and her husband lived for many years in Haverstraw, N.J.
She is survived by her husband, Manny, whom she married in 1963; her daughter, Doris Conklin; granddaughter, Danielle (Grayson) Renzleman of Arizona; a grandson, Brendan Conklin of Arizona; a brother, Robert (Honey) Aaron of Hawley, Pa.; two great-grandchilden, Lindsay and Kelsay and many nephews and nieces from the Eastern Shore of Maryland.
She was preceded in death by her sisters, Thelma and Margaret Ann and her brothers, Norman, William and James.
A memorial service will be held 3 p.m. Sunday at Hansen Desert Hills Chapel in Scottsdale.
Ralph L. Ruark
WINGATE - Ralph L. Ruark, 78, died at his home on Wednesday, July 3, 2002.
He was born April 20, 1924 in Bishops Head, the son of the late Bichell and Edna Woodland Ruark.
In 1973 he married the former Shirley Banning.
Mr. Ruark was a graduate of Crapo High School.
Mr. Ruark was a self-employed waterman and boat builder. He and his father-in-law, the late Bronza Parks, designed and built a replica skipjack named "Barbara Batchhelder" for Irenee DuPont Jr. Mr. Ruark was also the vessel's caretaker since 1947. Mr. Ruark and Mr. Parks also built the "Lady Katie," "Rosa Parks" and "Martha Lewis" skipjacks. Mr. Ruark's working skipjack, "Wilma Lee" was built by his father-in-law.
Mr. Ruark was a licensed airplane pilot and owned a vintage 1947 J3Cub.
Mr. Ruark had been a member of Lakes and Straits Volunteer Fire Department and the Cambridge Yacht Club.
Mr. Ruark was not only an avid pilot and well-known boat builder, but he also enjoyed playing bluegrass music with his friends and fishing.
Besides his wife of Wingate, Mr. Ruark is survived by two daughters from his previous marriage to the late Martha Parks Todd, Patti Hall and Candace White and her husband, Gregory, all of Berlin; stepchildren: Betsy Fearins, David Bradley, Gordon Bradley, Mark Bradley; a sister, Melinda Bloodsworth of Cambridge; two grandsons, Joshua Joseph White and his wife, Natalie of Herndon, Va., Justin Bradley of Seaford, Del.; friends and neighbors, Doug Mills and Lynn Todd; a special niece, Trudy Jones of Cambridge and several nieces and nephews.
Preceding him in death was his brother, Cyril Ruark.
A graveside service will be held 11 a.m. Saturday at Dorchester Memorial Park. Officiating at the service will be the Rev. Denzil Cheek. Burial will immediately follow.
In lieu of flowers, memorial offerings may be made in Mr. Ruark's memory to Coastal Hospice, P.O. Box 1733, Salisbury, MD 21802-1733.

Phillip J. Higgins
CAMBRIDGE - Phillip J. Higgins, 82, passed away Wednesday, July 3, 2002 at the Mallard Bay Care Center. He had been in failing health for several months and had been a patient at the center for two weeks.
He was born March 4, 1920 in Baltimore, the son of the late Phillip James and Margaret Davis Higgins.
Mr. Higgins had moved to Woolford with his parents when he was 1 year old, and had lived there for most of his life. He had attended schools at Woolford.
During World War II he had served in the U.S. Army and had served in several places in the South Pacific, one of them being on Okinawa.
On June 18, 1948 Mr. Higgins married the former Esther Mace Marshall. He had worked at the Cambridge Wire Cloth Co. as a machine operator for 38 years until he retired in 1982.
P.J., as he was known, was a member of Milton United Methodist Church. He had enjoyed woodworking for a number of years and had lived in Cambridge since February of 2000.
Besides of wife of 54 years of Cambridge, Mr. Higgins is survived by one sister, Elva Vickers and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by a sister, Alice Willey.
A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at Dorchester Memorial Park with the Rev. A. Delmer Willey officiating. There will be no viewing.
Pallbearers will be Steve Marshall, Kelly Marshall, Rick Marshall, Charles Blackmann, Gary Marshall, Scott Marshall and Brian Marshall.

Geraldine L. Simmons
CAMBRIDGE - Geraldine L. Simmons, 82, passed away Tuesday, July 2, 2002 at the Mallard Bay Care Center. She had been a resident at the center since Aug. 3, 2001.
She was born Oct. 2, 1919 in Cambridge, the daughter of the late Howard T. and Eva Burton LeCompte.
Mrs. Simmons had attended schools in Cambridge, having graduated from Cambridge High School in 1938. On Dec. 24, 1940 she was married to A. Curtis Simmons. He passed away on Nov. 14, 1992.
Mrs. Simmons had worked as a teacher's aide with the Dorchester County Board of Education for 10 years. She had also been an employee of the Broward Bank & Trust Co. in Ft. Lauderdale, Fla., as a bookkeeper. Mrs. Simmons had also been an active salesperson for the World Book Encyclopedia.
She was a member of Grace United Methodist Church and also the Ruth Circle of Grace Church. She had also been a member of Cambridge Elks Lodge 1272.
Her survivors include a son and daughter-in-law, Alan C. Simmons and Evelyn K. Simmons of Cambridge; two grandchildren, Scott Simmons and Katrina Simmons; two sisters, Betty L. Smith and Lena L. Applegarth, both of Cambridge; one brother, Edward L. LeCompte of Laurel, Del. and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by a brother, Howard T. LeCompte Jr.
A graveside service will be held 1 p.m. Friday at the East New Market Cemetery. There will be no viewing.

William V. Collison
DALLASTOWN, Pa. - William V. Collison, 67, husband of the former Margaret Ann Spedden, passed away suddenly Tuesday morning, July 2, 2002 at York Hospital. Mr. Collison was a long-time resident of Cambridge.
A Masonic memorial service will be conducted by officers and members of Cambridge Lodge 66, A.F. & A.M. at the Thomas Funeral Home at 1 p.m. Saturday. Following the Masonic service a funeral service will be conducted by the Rev. David L. Kreek. Burial will take place in the Spedden-Seward Cemetery.
Friends will be received at the funeral home on Saturday during the hour before the service.
James H. Ross Jr.
TRAPPE - James H. "Junior" Ross Jr., 74, died Wednesday, June 26, 2002.
He was born Jan. 24, 1928 in Easton, the son of the late James H. Sr. and Lottie Mae Scott Ross.
After attending public school in Talbot County he worked for Asphlund Tree Service before entering the U.S. Army during World War II, where he served in Germany. Following his release from active duty, he began a career as a painting contractor until his death.
Mr. Ross was a member of E. E. Streets Memorial Post VFW 5118 in Easton, American Legion Post 91 in Cambridge, Moose Lodge in Greensboro and was an avid horseman.
Mr. Ross is survived by his wife, the former Bonnie Walter, whom he married Jan. 24, 1996; four sons: Thomas H. Ross of Bowling Green, Ky., James A. Ross of Trappe, Steven J. Ross of East New Market and Jerry Lee Ross of Elkton; one sister, Lucretia M. Jester of Sudlersville; two brothers, T. Lee Ross of East New Market and Randy Ross of Easton; seven grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren, one great-great-grandchild and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by one sister, Lavinia Sherwood and two brothers, Raymond H. Ross and George H. Ross.
Services will be held 10:30 a.m. Friday at the Maryland Eastern Shore Veterans' Cemetery Chapel at Beulah.

William R. Hopkins
PHILADELPHIA, Pa. - William R. Hopkins, 76, formerly of Dorchester County, died Saturday, June 29, 2002.
He was born Sept. 28, 1925 in Camden, N.J., son of the late Bertha Mae Jones and William Prattis.
At a very early age, he went to live with his grandfather, Nehemiah Hopkins in Salem. After the marriage of his uncle, Linwood Hopkins to Emmer Stanley, he went to live with them in Rhodesdale.
Mr. Hopkins attended Vienna Elementary School and graduated from F. D. St. Clair High School in 1943. After high school, he enlisted in the United States Army and served in World War II.
Upon returning to Cambridge, he worked for Clayton Seafood Co. as a truck driver. During that time he met the late Arvell Chester, and from this union, four children were born.
In 1963, he followed his family to Philadelphia where he worked for Waterman's Electronics until its closing. He retired from Hussey's Marine Alloys in 1987.
For the past 20 years, Mr. Hopkins had resided on Newkirk Street with Patricia Bacon. They have one daughter, Tiffany.
He health slowly deteriorated and he entered the hospital on June 3, 2002.
His survivors include five children: Jacqueline, Darlene, Davey, Eric and Tiffany; four stepchildren, James, Doretha, Danny and Hilda; a godson, Elijah Washington; six grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; three aunts, Ella Pinder, Emmer Hopkins, Roberta Hopkins. He is also survived by his long-time companion, Patricia Bacon and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
There will be a viewing from 10 to 11 a.m. Friday at the Henry Funeral Home in Cambridge. Burial will follow at Mt. Pleasant United Methodist Church Cemetery in Salem.
Services in Philadelphia are being conducted by Keene and Carney Funeral Home, 1939 W. Diamond St. and local services have been entrusted to the Henry Funeral Home.
William V. Collison
DALLASTOWN, Pa. - William V. Collison, 67, passed away early Tuesday morning, July 2, 2002 at York Hospital in York.
He was born May 7, 1935 in Cambridge the son of the late Daisy Frampton Collison. He was raised in Cambridge and was a 1953 graduate of Cambridge High School.
Mr. Collison served in the U.S. Army from March of 1955 to March of 1957. He was employed at Burch Paint and Glass and Sherwin Williams in Cambridge prior to moving to Dallastown in 1973. Prior to his retirement in 1998 he was employed by Rutter's Farm Stores and he had been employed by several trucking companies in the area.
Mr. Collison was a member of Otterbein United Methodist Church in Spry, Pa. Other memberships include Cambridge Lodge 66, A.F. & A.M., Scottish Rite Bodies, Minerva Chapter 50, Order of Eastern Star, Boumi Temple in Baltimore and York Lodge 148, Loyal Order of Moose. Mr. Collison was also a member and past Grand Tall Cedar of Chesapeake Forest 115, T.C.L., past president of Tall Cedar Travel Club, past president of Cambridge Exchange Club and former Scoutmaster of Boy Scout Troop 50 in Spry.
Mr. Collison is survived by his wife, the former Margaret Ann Spedden, whom he married on Dec. 17, 1955; two sons, Kevin S. Collison of Georgia and Jason K. Collison of Glen Rock, Pa. and two grandchildren, Brianna M. Beck and Logan W. Collison.
A Masonic memorial service and an Eastern Star memorial service will be conducted a1 p.m. Saturday at the Thomas Funeral Home in Cambridge. These services will be followed immediately by a funeral service, officiated by David L. Kreek. Burial will take place in Spedden-Seward Cemetery at Hills Point. Friends will be received at the funeral home on Saturday during the hour before the service.

Robert W. Collins Jr.
EAST NEW MARKET - Robert W. Collins Jr., 51, passed away on Tuesday evening, July 2, 2002 at the Deaton Specialty Hospital and Home in Baltimore. Mr. Collins underwent a kidney transplant in May of 2001 and had been hospitalized since October.
He was the husband of the former Freeda Marlene Christopher.
He was born Feb. 19, 1951 in Cambridge, the son of Robert William Collins and Betty Louise Lyons Dodson. He was raised and attended public schools in East New Market and Cambridge.
Mr. Collins worked as a carpenter for several local contractors and was a waterman.
Besides his wife, whom he married in August of 1983, he is survived by two daughters, Teresa Cheezum of Trappe and Kristel Collins of Cambridge; five stepchildren: Richard Edwards Jr. of Denton, Sharon Hughes of Hurlock, Kathy Dawson of East New Market, Robert G. Aaron of Cambridge and Lawrence Aaron of Denton; three grandchildren; 14 stepgrandchildren and four stepgreat-grandchildren. Mr. Collins is also survived by his mother and stepfather, Betty and Freddie Dodson of Hurlock; his father of Cambridge; one sister, Janet Lednum of Trappe; three brothers, Richard Collins of Cambridge, David Collins of Delaware and Paul Collins of Cambridge; several aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by a son, Robert Oscar Collins.
A graveside service will be conducted 11 a.m. Friday at the East New Market Cemetery by the Rev. Thomas E. Tapley. There will be no calling hours.

Elsie C. McNamara
CAMBRIDGE - Elsie Conway McNamara, 92, passed away at her home on Tuesday, July 16, 2002.
She was the last surviving daughter of Harvey H. and Sarah C. Willey Conway.

Calvert D. Beauchamp
FEDERALSBURG - Calvert D. Beauchamp, 71, died Tuesday, July 16, 2002 at the Caroline Nursing Home in Denton.
He was born May 12, 1931 near Federalsburg, the son of the late Arthur L. Beauchamp Sr. and Florence R. Jeavons Beauchamp.
Mr. Beauchamp served in the United States Army from 1952-1954. He was a Mold Technician at Maryland Plastics in Federalsburg for over 42 years, retiring in 1996.
He is survived by his wife of 43 years, Shirley Turner Beauchamp; a son, John W. Beauchamp and his wife, Theresa of Federalsburg; two grandsons, Joshua C. and Timothy A. Beauchamp, both of Federalsburg; two sisters, Betty Mowbray and Pauline Mitchell, both of Federalsburg; a brother, Sherman Beauchamp of Bridgeville, Del. and several nieces and nephews.
Mr. Beauchamp was preceded in death by three brothers, Paul Beauchamp, Arthur L. Beauchamp Jr. and Bernard F. Beauchamp and a sister, Doryse Sciolino and two half brothers, John and Earl Collins.
Funeral services will be held 1 p.m. Saturday at the Framptom-Hawkins-Eskow Funeral Home in Federalsburg with the Rev. Dan Walker and the Rev. Glen Lyburn officiating. Burial will follow at Hill Crest Cemetery in Federalsburg.
Friends may call at the funeral home from 7 to 9 tonight and one hour prior to the service on Saturday.
Serving as pallbearers will be Paul Wagner, Neil Tourangeau, James Donovan, David Martin, Daniel Nickerson, Steve Ballas, James Brown and Barry Lord.
As well as flowers, the family has directed that memorial contributions be made to Caroline County Hospice Foundation, P.O. Box 362, Denton, MD 21629.
Clarence H. Thomas
CAMBRIDGE - Clarence H. Thomas, 85, died late Wednesday night, July 17, 2002 at Chesapeake Woods Center.
He was born Aug. 4, 1916 at Todd Point, The Neck District, the son of the late William Rufus Thomas and Jennie M. Groll Thomas.
On Oct. 31, 1936 he married the former Nannie Virginia Kinnamon. She died on March 6, 2002.
Mr. Thomas was an electrical engineer employed by C & P Telephone Co., from where he retired after 40 years of employment.
In his earlier years, he had obtained a pilot's license to fly single engine planes as a hobby. Besides enjoying flying, Mr. Thomas also liked camping and admired wildlife.
Surviving is his daughter, Joan Marie Lane and her companion, Chris Parker of East New Market; two grandchildren, Anthony Darrell Lane of Preston, Rhonda Richardson and her husband, William "Butch" of Cambridge; two great-grandchildren, Rachel and Michael Richardson; a brother, Howard Thomas of Glen Burnie; a brother-in-law, Howard Kinnamon of Cambridge and several nieces and nephews.
Preceding Mr. Thomas in death besides his parents and wife was a sister, Anna Clauss.
Funeral services will be held noon Monday at St. Paul's United Methodist Church in Cambridge, where the family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. Officiating at the service will be the Rev. Dale L. Brown. Burial will follow at Dorchester Memorial Park.
Pallbearers will be Irvin Bramble, William "Butch" Richardson, Anthony D. Lane, Robert Kinnamon, Ben McLaughlin, Ted Cox, Bill White and Brad Cox.
Memorial offerings may be made to St. Paul's United Methodist Church, c/o Shirley Kialianu, 8 Somerset Ave., Cambridge, MD 21613 or the Dorchester County Humane Society, 4930 Bucktown Road, Cambridge, MD 21613.
