Catherine L. Robinson
CAMBRIDGE - Catherine L. Robinson of Cambridge passed away at Dorchester General Hospital in Cambridge on Friday, Aug. 30, 2002. She was 74.
She was born at Bishops Head on March 13, 1928 and was the daughter or the late Edward Spencer and Marie Bayliss Robinson.
She had attended schools at Bishops Head and Crapo. Some years ago, she had attended the Holiness Church at Bishops Head. After moving to Cambridge, she had attended Souls Harbor Church of God.
Miss Robinson had worked at Woolworth's in Cambridge for more than 44 years. She had been an avid bingo player for many years. She was a patient at Dorchester General Hospital when she passed away on Friday evening.
Survivors include two nieces, Peggy J. Bradford and her husband Bradley of Lakesville, Suzanne R. Richardson and her husband Ronnie of Cambridge; four nephews, Samuel E. Robinson and his wife Barbara of Bishops Head, M. Wayne Robinson and his wife Thedus of Cambridge, Jeffrey R. Robinson and his wife Judy of Cambridge and M. Jay Robinson of Cambridge; two sisters-in-law, Peggy Robinson of Cambridge and Betty Ferguson of Bishops Head; and several great-nieces and great-nephews.
A funeral service will be held on Tuesday afternoon at 1 p.m. at the Thomas Funeral Home in Cambridge with the Rev. Dale L. Brown officiating. Burial will follow at Dorchester Memorial Park.
The family will receive friends on Tuesday during the hour preceding the service. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society, c/o Doris Weber, 5163 Maple Dam Road, Cambridge, MD 21613.

Theodore Boulden Jr.
GOLDSBORO - Theodore "Mandy" Boulden Jr., 90, died Wednesday, Aug. 28, 2002 at the home of his care provider Joyce Walls in Goldsboro. Mr. Boulden was born Sept. 4, 1911, son of the late Theodore and Elizabeth Clayton Boulden Sr.
During his employment years, he worked as a landscape gardener. He attended the Caroline County Senior Center in Denton until his health failed.
His wife, Susie Boulden and a brother, Richard Boulden Sr., preceded him in death.
Surviving Mr. Boulden are two sisters, Bertha Harris and Ernestine Boulden, both of Easton; two brothers, Charles Boulden Sr. of Easton and James Boulden of Unionville; a sister-in-law, Nannie Mae Boulden of Bellevue; five nieces, Eleanor Smith of Denton, Mary Elizabeth Holland of Bethlehem, Michelle Hammond of Unionville, Mildred Sewell of Glen Burnie and Marie Martin of Columbus, Ohio; three nephews, Royce Boulden of Westminster, Charles Boulden Jr. of Cambridge and Richard Boulden Jr. of New Jersey; and numerous great-nieces, nephews and cousins.
A funeral service will be held on Wednesday at 1 p.m. at St. Stephens A.M.E. Church in Unionville. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
There will be a viewing two hours prior to service.

Herbert H. Vaughn
BALTIMORE - Herbert Hoover Vaughn, 73, passed away on Thursday, Aug. 29, 2002 at the Long Green Center in Baltimore.
He was born Nov. 23, 1928 in Cambridge, the son of the late Thomas Jefferson and Edith Raphael Vaughn.
Mr. Vaughn attended the public schools in Dorchester County and graduated from St. Clair High School in 1947.
He joined the U.S. Army in 1947 and was honorably discharged in June 1968 after 21 years of distinguished service to his country. He received several Army medals and recognition during his Army career.
Upon his discharge, Mr. Vaughn resided in Baltimore and worked for the Baltimore City Board of Education Workshop Department until his retirement in 1988.
Mr. Vaughn was married to the former Evon McCoy. He was widely known on his job and received several awards and recognition from Baltimore City.
He is survived by three daughters, Portia E. Holliday of Cambridge, Bridgette Vaughn and Karen Vaughn of Colorado Springs, Colo.; three sisters, Ida M. Davis of Baltimore, Geraldine Cornish of Cambridge and Dorthea V. Chandler of Baltimore; one brother-in-law, Wendell L. Davis Sr.; several grandchildren, nieces, nephews and other relatives.
Besides his parents, Mr. Vaughn was preceded in death by a brother, Thomas Vaughn and a sister, Bessie Chester.
Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Friday at the Boardley Funeral Home in Cambridge with Brother Garrick C. Cook officiating. There will be a viewing one hour prior to the service.
James Trader IV
HURLOCK - James "Brady" Trader IV, 19, passed away Sunday, Sept. 1, 2002 in Easton.
He was born Feb. 7, 1983 in Easton, son of Doris Ewing Trader of Hurlock and the late James Braden Trader III who died April 7, 1990.
Brady was an avid baseball player and soccer player since the age of 5. While at North Dorchester High School, he played on the Varsity Baseball and Varsity Soccer teams. He also played baseball for American Legion Post 243 as a pitcher and shortstop.
Mr. Trader received his high school diploma in June 2002 and was planning to attend Chesapeake Community College in Spring 2003.
He was a member of Our Lady of Good Counsel Catholic Church in Secretary where he had been an altar server. He enjoyed snowboarding, fishing and music.
In addition to his mother, he is survived by two brothers, Michael Trader of Bowie and Matthew Trader of Hurlock; his paternal grandmother, Carol Ann Trader of East New Market; his maternal grandparents, Philip and Janet Ewing of Hurlock; a nephew, Jaxon Trader and many aunts, uncles and cousins.
In addition to his father, he was preceded in death by his paternal grandfather, James B. Trader Jr. who died March 23, 1998.
The family will receive friends from 10:30 to 11 a.m. Thursday at Our Lady of Good Counsel Catholic Church in Secretary.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Thursday at the church with the Rev. Anthony Greco officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.

Ray W. Lord
HURLOCK - Ray Woodrow Lord, 86, died Friday, Aug. 30, 2002 at the Caroline Nursing Home in Denton.
He was born Aug. 20, 1916 in Dorchester County, the son of the late Cyrus and Hattie Hubbard Lord.
He was a World War II Army veteran where he served in Company F 151st Infantry, serving in New Guinea, Southern Philippines and Luzon, receiving the Asiatic Pacific Theater with Bronze Arrowhead, the Philippine Defense Ribbon, WWII Victory Ribbon and the American Theater Service Ribbon.
Mr. Lord was a house painter and a farmer. He had attended the Senior Citizen Centers of Hurlock and Cambridge.
He is survived by his friends and caretakers, Jim and Gloria Dolan of Hurlock.
Graveside services were held Tuesday at Zion Cemetery near Hurlock with the Rev. Ruth Tull officiating.
Memorial contributions may be made in his memory to the Unity-Washington United Methodist Church Scholarship Fund, P.O. Box 298, Hurlock, MD 21643.
Arrangements were handled by the Framptom-Hawkins-Eskow Funeral Home in Federalsburg.
Arthur F. Wells Jr.
BERLIN - Arthur Forest Wells Jr., 83, died Tuesday, Sept. 3, 2002 at the Berlin Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.
He was born March 2, 1919 in St. Louis, Mo., the son of the late Rev. Dr. Arthur Forest and Freda Smith Wells. His wife of 55 years, Mildred Rogusky Wells, died in 1996.
Mr. Wells graduated from the Baltimore Polytechnic Institute in the three-year pre-engineering program and entered Johns Hopkins University at the age of 16. His post secondary education also included studies at the Georgia Institute of Technology and Carnegie Mellon University in Pittsburgh.
Working for over 30 years in the steel industry, Mr. Wells began his career at Crown Cork and Seal in Baltimore. He and his wife moved to the Midwest in 1943 where Mr. Wells worked for Youngstown Sheet and Tube. In 1959 when Midwest Steel, a division of National Steel, was built in Portage, Ind., he joined the plant as a departmental superintendent. He held the position of vice president and general manager in 1971, when he resigned to relocate to the Eastern Shore of Maryland.
Mr. and Mrs. Wells purchased Poet's Brake on the Marshyhope Creek in Dorchester County, where, in addition to working as a plant engineer for Reynolds Industries in Cambridge, he operated a successful Christmas tree farm, saw sharpening business and did consultant work for area businesses.
Mr. Wells was a member of numerous technical societies and several patents are held in his name. He never really retired as his expertise in design and production was a gift he shared with family and friends until illness forced him to give up his workshop.
In northwest Indiana, Mr. Wells was active in many civic activities. He was president of Hageman and Yost school PTAs, a member of the Duneland School Corp. elected school board and served on the advisory board of the local community college. He helped organize the Westchester YMCA and negotiated its purchase of the old Thomas school in Chesterton as its first home. Mr. Wells served as president of the Porter County United Way Fund, vice president of the Pottawattomie Council of the Boy Scouts, and held offices in the Lions Club, Rotary and Ruritans. He was a deacon for the Presbyterian Church of the Dunes and on the board of directors of the First National Bank in Valparaiso. In 1969, then Governor Whitcomb, named Mr. Wells "Sagamore of the Wabash" for his wise counsel and inspiration in leadership to Indiana government.
In addition to his two daughters, Dr. Jane Pruitt and her husband, Michael of Newark, Md. and Marie Emily Wells-Suznavick and her husband, David of Berlin, Mr. Wells is survived by five grandchildren, four nieces and one nephew. Grandsons living on the Eastern Shore are William Hearn III of Greensboro, Aaron Hearn of Delmar and Andrew Wells of Easton.
Mr. Wells was preceded in death by a son, Arthur Forest Wells III and a sister, Eunice Bowdle.
Mr. Wells was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Ocean City led by the Rev. Alex Ayers. The Rev. Ayers will perform a graveside service at Old Trinity Church in Church Creek at 11 a.m. Saturday.
Zeller Funeral Home in East New Market is handling the arrangements.

Thomas J. Stewart
EAST NEW MARKET - Thomas James Stewart, 87, died Sunday, Sept. 1, 2002 at Deer's Head Hospital Center in Salisbury.
He was born Aug. 2, 1915 in Vienna, the son of the late Herman and Edith Robbins Stewart.
Mr. Stewart retired from E. I. DuPont in Seaford after 38 years of service as a line mechanic and was also a farmer. He was a member of Thompson Chapel where he served as a trustee, sang in the choir, and ushered.
Mr. Stewart is survived by his wife, Sarah E. Jones Stewart; daughters, Marie Daniels of Thompsontown and Barbara Jean Robinson of Wilmington, Del.; two friends who were like daughters, Martha Sampson and Viola Hughes, both of Hurlock; two brothers, Russell Stewart of Cambridge and Orville Stewart of Baltimore; three sisters, Lillian Bunton of New York, Mamie Jackson of Vienna and Dorothy Jones of Thompsontown; a number of grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins and godchildren.
Funeral services will be held 2 p.m. Saturday at the Thompson Chapel in East New Market with the Rev. Elaine Ayers officiating. Burial will follow in Thompsontown Cemetery in East New Market.
Friends may call at the church from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday.

John H. Whitmore Sr.
TOWSON - John Henry Whitmore Sr., 87, passed away Saturday, Aug. 31, 2002 at the BRECC Center.
He was born Oct. 9, 1914 in White Plains, N.Y., son of the late James and Elizabeth Whitmore.
He served in the United States Army with the 467th Amphibious Truck Co. during World War II from 1943 to 1946. Mr. Whitmore received such honors as World War II Victory and the European African Middle Eastern Service Medals.
Mr. Whitmore was employed at the Bridgeport, Conn. Gas Co. as a heavy equipment operator from 1947 to 1977.
He is survived by a daughter, Isabel E. Thompson of Easton; a son, John H. Whitmore Jr. of Shelton, Conn.; three grandsons, Anthony Gomes of Aberdeen, Pashal Whitmore of California, Sean Whitmore of Shelton, Conn.; three granddaughters, Kisha Whitmore of Atlanta, Ga., Ebony Gantt of Bridgeport, Conn. and Kristen Whitmore of Shelton, Conn. He is also survived by a daughter-in-law, Ruby Whitmore of Shelton, Conn.; a son-in-law, George Thompson of Easton and two nieces and two nephews.
Besides his parents, Mr. Whitmore was preceded in death by a sister, Vivian and four brothers, Harold, Peter, Howard and Billy.
A funeral service will be held noon Friday at the Henry Funeral Home in Cambridge with Elder Anthony Short officiating. Burial will follow at the Maryland Veterans' Cemetery at Beulah. There will be a viewing one hour prior to the service.
Frances E. Paul
CAMBRIDGE - Frances Elizabeth Paul, 80, formerly of Golden Hill, died Tuesday, Sept. 3, 2002 at the Dorchester General Hospital. Mrs. Paul had been a resident of Chesapeake Woods Center in Cambridge.
She was born Nov. 8, 1921 in Golden Hill, the daughter of the late Goldsborough Gootee and Mildred Wallace Gootee.
Mrs. Paul was a graduate of Crapo High School, Class of 1938 with honors.
On Sept. 14, 1940 she married Melvin Augustus Paul Sr. He died on April 2, 1973.
Mrs. Paul was a member of St. John's United Methodist Church, Golden Hill. She was also a member of the WSCS of the church.
She is survived by her son, Melvin A. Paul Jr. and his wife, Janice; grandson, Dwane Paul and his wife, Cindy; two great-grandsons, Aaron and Cody Paul; two brothers, Philip Gootee and Leonard Gootee; two sisters, Mildred Shorter, Polly Hubbard, all of Golden Hill and several nieces and nephews.
Preceding her in death besides her parents and husband were a daughter, Ramona Mildred Paul and a brother, Hoover Gootee.
The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 tonight at the Curran-Bromwell Funeral Home, P.A. in Cambridge.
Funeral services will be held 1 p.m. Friday at St. John's UM Church, Golden Hill with the Rev. Chris Pennington officiating. No viewing will be held prior to the service in the church. Burial will follow in the adjoining churchyard.
Pallbearers will be Aaron Paul, Dwane Paul, Allen Elzey, Ricky Shorter, Henry Gootee and Billy Gootee.
Honorary pallbearers will be Cody Paul and Stevie Shockley.

Martha M. Konoski
FEDERALSBURG - Martha Mercer Konoski, 70, passed away Tuesday, Sept. 3, 2002 at the Memorial Hospital at Easton.
She was born Sept. 20, 1931 in Fairview, W.Va., the daughter of the late Jesse and Stella Haught Mercer.
After graduating from Fairview High School, Class of 1949, she went to work for Westington House in Fairmont, W. Va. and in 1952 joined the United States Air Force and served until her discharge in 1955. She then returned to work at Westington House.
In 1961 she and her husband, moved to Millersville for him to pursue a career in education. The family moved to Federalsburg in 1963. She then worked for the Caroline County Board of Education at Colonel Richardson Middle School and also Denton Elementary School for 15 years until she retired in 1996.
Mrs. Konoski was a member of Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church in Seaford, Del.
In addition to her husband, Michael J. Konoski, whom she married July 18, 1959, she is survived by one daughter, Mary Ann Konoski of Berlin; one son, Michael A. Konoski and his wife, Melanie Marie of Bishopville; two sisters, Mary Schipono of Fallbrook, Calif. and Ruth Ann Cutrone of Fairview, W. Va.; two brothers, Robert Mercer of Fairmount, W. Va. and Richard Mercer of Fairview, W. Va. She is also survived by one granddaughter, Marena Marie Konoski of Bishopville.
The family will receive friends at the Williamson Funeral Home, in Federalsburg from 7 to 9 tonight and also at the Dent Funeral Home in Mannington, W. Va. from 6 to 9 p.m. Friday where a rosary will be recited at 7 p.m.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be conducted 10 a.m. Saturday at St. Patrick's Catholic Church, Mannington, W.Va. Burial will take place at Mannington Memorial Park following the services on Saturday.

Norma Lee S. Gray
LAUREL, Del. - Norma Lee Spedden Gray, 61, passed away Tuesday, Sept. 3, 2002 at her home. She was born in Cambridge, daughter of James William Spedden and Wilsie Willey Spedden.

Frances M. Wolfe
POCOMOKE CITY - Frances Mae Wolfe, 80, passed away Wednesday, Sept. 4, 2002 at her residence.
She was born July 21, 1922 in Washington, D.C., the daughter of the late Frederick W. Brill and Zillah Cummings Brill.
Prior to her move to Pocomoke, she worked for the Cambridge MAC Senior Center in transportation services.
Mrs. Wolfe is survived by two daughters, Carolyn L. Colbourne of Secretary and Sally L. Windsor of Crapo; one son, Everett Wolfe of Salisbury; eight grandchildren: R. Jill Vincent of Woolford, Jack Colbourne of Secretary, Tracy W. Beauchamp of Chesapeake, Va., Shelly W. Blake of East New Market, Austin W. Windsor Jr. of Crapo, Patricia Wolfe of Salisbury, Shannon Wolfe of Salisbury and Shawn Wolfe of Salisbury; and eight great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held 2 p.m. Saturday at the Zeller Funeral Home in East New Market with a viewing held one half hour prior to the service. The Rev. Ken Argott officiated. Burial followed in Dorchester Memorial Park.
Pallbearers were Austin W. Windsor Sr., Austin W. Windsor Jr., Jack Colbourne, Randy Beauchamp, Jordan Richardson and Andy Blake.
Charles W. McCord
FEDERALSBURG - Charles W. McCord, 77, died Friday, Sept. 6, 2002 at the Christiana Medical Center in Christiana, Del.
He was born Nov. 6, 1924 in Easton, the son of the late Harry Franklin McCord and Irene Marshall McCord.
He attended Hurlock High before entering the U.S. Navy in 1941 where he remained until retiring as a Machinist Mate First Class on July 16, 1963. While in the service he served in the South Pacific and Atlantic theatres. He was also in the service during the Korean and beginning of the Vietnam Wars. After his retirement from the service he worked at Seaford Grain for seven years as a truck driver before retiring.
Mr. McCord was a member of Boumi Shrine of Baltimore, Federalsburg Masonic Lodge 172, A.F. and A.M. of Federalsburg, York Rite Bodies, the Chester River Shrine Club, the Caroline Eastern Star Chapter 62 of Denton and he was a member of Federalsburg VFW Post 5246, a former member of VFW Post 5118 or Easton, a member of the Boumi Campers Club of Baltimore and the Fleet Reserve Association.
Mr. McCord is survived by his wife, Ramona Collison McCord; a daughter, Tammy Kay Willey of East New Market; a stepson, Galen Collison Jr. of Harrington, Del.; three grandchildren, C. J. Willey of Texas, Melissa Willey of East New Market and Galen Collison III of Federalsburg and two stepgreat-grandchildren, Rachel Collison of Seaford and Jason Collison of Federalsburg.
He was preceded in death by a brother, Harry McCord.
Funeral services will be held 1 p.m. Tuesday at Framptom-Hawkins-Eskow Funeral Home, P.A. in Federalsburg. Burial will follow in Hill Crest Cemetery in Federalsburg.
Friends may call at the funeral home from 6 to 8 tonight where a Masonic service and VFW service will be held, beginning at 7 p.m.
