Ramona C. McCord
FEDERALSBURG - Ramona Collison McCord, 70, died Monday, Dec. 9, 2002 at the Caroline Nursing Home in Denton.
She was born Nov. 3, 1932 near Denton, the daughter of the late John and Elva Jones Reed. Her first husband, Galen Collison Sr., preceded her in death on June 28, 1974, and her second husband, Charles W. McCord preceded her in death on Sept. 6, 2002.
Mrs. McCord was a graduate of North Caroline High School, Class of 1949. She had worked for the former Caroline Poultry, Eshams Poultry in Parsonsburg, and Allen's Hatchery in Seaford retiring in 1978 as a Settlement Clark.
She was a member of Ladies Oriental Shrine in Sun City, Fla.; a member of the VFW Auxiliary Post 5118 in Easton; Order of the Eastern Star, Caroline Chapter 62 in Denton; a member of St. Luke's United Methodist Church in Denton and had attended Christ United Methodist Church in Federalsburg.
Mrs. McCord is survived by a son, Galen Collison Jr. of Harrington, Del.; a daughter, Tammy Kay Willey of East New Market; a daughter-in-law and special care giver, Norma Lee Lloyd of Federalsburg; three grandchildren, Galen Collison III of Federalsburg, C. J. Willey of Houston, Texas and Melissa Willey of East New Market; three great-grandchildren, Rachel Collison of Seaford, Jason Collison of Federalsburg and Brent McCord Willey of Houston, Texas; a brother, Fred Reed of Denton; sister-in-law, Sue Grongier of Denton and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by two brothers and one sister, James Lemuel Reed, Kenneth "Buckwheat" Reed and Loleta "Peaches" Stafford.
Funeral services will be held 2 p.m. Friday at the Framptom-Hawkins-Eskow Funeral Home, P.A. Burial will follow in Hill Crest Cemetery in Federalsburg.
Friends may call at the funeral home from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday with an Eastern Star Service at 7 p.m.

Joyce L. Bryan
CAMBRIDGE - Joyce L. Bryan, 56, passed away Tuesday night, Dec. 10, 2002 at the Chesapeake Woods Center.
She was born Dec. 21, 1945 in Cambridge, the daughter of the late Albert Houston and Myrtle Willey Bell.
Ms. Bryan was raised in Cambridge and was a 1963 graduate of Cambridge High School. For 19 years she was employed at Airpax as an assembler. She was a member of the Souls Harbor Church of God.
She is survived by two daughters, Jacqueline K. Bryan and Jayne K. Mastronardi, both of Cambridge; one son, James S. Bryan Jr. of Cape May, N.J.; five grandchilden, Meghan I. Hurley, Brandon N. Bryan, Justin C. Bryan, Cherish F. Brooks and Chelcie L. Robbins and several nieces and nephews..
She was preceded in death by a sister, Doris Tindall and a brother, Leroy Bell.
A funeral service will be held 11 a.m. Friday at the Souls Harbor Church of God with the Rev. J. Edward King officiating. Burial will take place in Dorchester Memorial Park. Friends will be received at the church during the hour before the service.

Dorothy M. Singletary
CAMBRIDGE - Dorothy Mae Singletary, 55, passed away early Monday, Dec. 9, 2002 at the Dorchester General Hospital.
She was born Jan. 25, 1947, the daughter of the late Allen and Lillie Camper.
Mrs. Singletary attended the public schools of Dorchester County and graduated from Mace's Lane High School in 1965.
On July 7, 1996 she married Ide Singletary. She was employed by Airpax Corp. for 24 years and was working for CYC at the time of her death.
Mrs. Singletary was a member of Christ Airey's United Methodist Church. She was a member of the Jubilees of Christ Airey's and a member of the Echoes of Heaven, her favorite choir where she served as sergeant-at-arms and was on the uniform committee.
In addition to her husband, she is survived by a daughter, Cynthia Machel Woolford of Cambridge; a son-in-law, Anthony Woolford Sr.; four grandchildren, Alexis, Aaron, Avery and Anthony Woolford Jr.; five stepchildren, Cherylene Ryant, Ide Singletary III, Darryl Singletary and Michelle Engerman, all of Massachusetts and Lamont Allen of Delaware and 14 stepgrandchildren. She is also survived by four brothers - Allen, Eugene, Carroll Camper, all of Cambridge and Phillip Camper of Philadelphia; six sisters - Esther Thomas, Gloria Jones, Camilla Cooper, Cardeaner Robinson, all of Cambridge, Ramona Cordoza of New York and Delores Bonds of North Carolina. Also surviving are seven brothers-in-law - Al Cordoza, Milton Jones, Robert Cooper, Andrew Robinson, Gilbert Jones Sr., Arthur Sampson and Clifton Dockins; eight sisters-in-law - Virginia, Betty, Anna Mae and Gwendolyn and Patsy Camper, Odessa Lyons, Ann Dockins and Rosealee Sampson and a number of nieces, nephews and cousins. She also leaves special friends, Frances Brown, Sheila Chester and Barbara Potter.
She was preceded in death by a sister, Rosealee Molock and a brother, Donald Camper.
Funeral services will be held 1 p.m. Saturday at the Refuge Temple Church of God, 800 Robbins St., Cambridge. Burial will be at the Airey's Cemetery.
A viewing will be held from 7 to 9 p.m. Friday at the Bennie Smith Funeral Home, 524 Race St., Cambridge.
Rose P. Sterling
CAMBRIDGE - Rose Pauline Sterling, 81, died Wednesday, Dec. 11, 2002 at Mallard Bay Nursing Care Center.
She was born May 9, 1921 in Dorchester County, daughter of the late Mitchell James Wongus and the late Hattie Bell Carter-Wongus.
Mrs. Sterling was educated in the schools of Dorchester County and had been employed as a personal domestic attendant for Colonel Albanus Phillips for 10 years and served as a beautician assistant for the late Mable Bennett.
She was a member of Waugh Chapel United Methodist Church and attended the worship services as long as her health permitted.
Mrs. Sterling enjoyed attending the annual Usher Day services in various churches in the area along with her brother, Mitchell. She supported the programs and activities of Waugh Chapel and the United Methodist Women. She enjoyed traveling.
Her survivors include a son, Derek Wongus and his wife, Pauline; four grandchilden, Derek Wongus Jr., Rashekia Wongus, Jasmine Wongus and Tenishia and Doc Tillery, all of Cambridge; a great-grandchild, Ty Johnson; two brothers, Mitchell Wongus and Daniel Wongus, both of Cambridge; three sisters, Sarah L. Carter of Baltimore City, Roberta A. Hopkins of New Jersey, Anna V. Wongus of Cambridge and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and other relatives.
Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by two brothers, Harry F. Wongus and James M. Wongus.
A funeral service will be held 2 p.m. Saturday at Waugh Chapel U M Church with the Rev. Dr. William T. Wallace Sr., officiating. Burial will follow at Mt. Pleasant Cemetery in Salem. There will be a viewing one hour prior to the service.

Walter B. Wright
CAMBRIDGE - Walter B. "Bucky" Wright, 77, passed away Thursday, Dec. 12, 2002 at the Mallard Bay Care Center, where he had been a resident.
He was born March 10, 1925 in Cambridge, the son of the late Daniel H. and G. Ruth Brown Wright.
Bucky graduated from Cambridge High School in 1943. He had served in the U.S. Army Air Corps from July 27, 1943 until Nov. 1, 1945. He had served in Europe and on one mission was shot down over Yugoslavia. He was awarded Four Bronze Battle Stars, a Purple Heart and an Air Medal.
On Oct. 22, 1949 he was married to the former Gloria Bertolini. She passed away on July 23, 1988.
For a number of years he had worked at the Herbert Hearn Hardware Co. and also the Department of Employment Security. Some years ago he and his brothers built and operated the Rose Hill Restaurant in Cambridge. He had also coached Little League baseball some years ago.
Mr. Wright was a member of St. Paul's United Methodist Church in Cambridge and was also a member of Dorchester Post 91 American Legion, as well as Choptank Memorial Post 7460 VFW.
Mr. Wright is survived by two daughters, Catherine W. Hanson and her husband, Robbie of Cambridge, Christine W. Dayton and her husband, Eddie of Cambridge; six grandchildren - Heather Shilling, Eddie Dayton, Brian Dayton, Meredith Hanson, Scott Hanson and Lucas Hanson and one great-granddaughter, Caroline Shilling. He is also survived by two sisters, Mabel V. Wright and Mattie Brown Brotemarkle, both of Cambridge; one brother, William N. Wright Sr. and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Shannon Hanson; one sister, Katharine W. Leap and two brothers, Daniel H. Wright Jr. and George W. Wright Sr.
A funeral service will be held 2 p.m. Sunday at St. Paul's United Methodist Church in Cambridge with the Rev. Dale L. Brown and the Rev. Thomas W. Hurley officiating. Burial will follow at Dorchester Memorial Park. The family will receive friends during the hour preceding the service.

Rita M. N. Harner
EASTON - Rita M. Nordike Harner, 46, formerly of Boonsboro, passed away Wednesday, Dec. 11, 2002 at her residence.
She was born Feb. 5, 1956 in Easton, the daughter of Roy Dean Nordike of Easton and the late Helen Rosalee Ewing Nordike.
In addition to her father, she is survived by five daughters - Laura Sue Harner of Hagerstown, Julie Lynn Harner of Boonsboro, Monica Renee Harner of Easton, Sherry Marie Harner of Easton, Sandra Rae Harner of Easton; one brother, Joseph D. Nordike of Easton; six sisters, Therese N. Reid o f Rhodesdale, Mary Helen Lowery of Tilghman, Jane V. Pajula of Easton, Kay E. Wilson of Easton, Carol R. Chrysovergis of Baltimore, Joan N. Dyott of Easton and many nieces and nephews.
In addition to her mother, she was preceded in death by one brother, Roy "Buddy" Nordike.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:30 a.m. Saturday at the SS. Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Easton. Burial will follow in Spring Hill Cemetery.
A viewing will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at the Zeller Funeral Home in East New Market and on Saturday from 10 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. at the church in Easton.

James W. Spedden Sr.
CAMBRIDGE - James W,. Spedden Sr., 84, of Cambridge, passed away at Dorchester General Hospital in Cambridge on Saturday, Dec. 14, 2002 where he had been a patient since March 19. He was born at Hudson on April 18, 1918, and was the son of the late George Spedden and the late Lottie Rhea Spedden Parrott.
Mr. Spedden had attended schools in Hudson and also in Trappe. He married the former Wilsie Willey on Sept. 17, 1940.
He entered the U.S. Army on June 6, 1943 and served with the 51st Combat Engineers. Mr. Spedden participated in the D-Day Invasion at Normandy Beach and in the Battle of the Bulge.
He was awarded five Battle Stars and received an Honorable Discharge on Oct. 25, 1945 at Ft. Meade.
Mr. Spedden had worked for the State Highway Administration for 31 years, and retired in 1980.
Survivors include his wife of 62 years, Wilsie W. Spedden of Cambridge; one daughter, Joyce Ann Slacum of East New Market; two sons, James W. Spedden Jr. of Secretary and Donald H. Spedden of Cambridge. He is also survived by two half sisters, Lucille Garrett of Trappe and Nellie Hughes of Seaford, Del.; one half brother, Harry Parrott Jr. of Cambridge; seven grandchildren, Wayne Gray Jr. of Seaford, Debra Webster of Linkwood, Sandy Slacum, Brandi Spedden and Taylors Spedden all of Secretary, Tory Spedden of Cambridge and Kimberly Dawn Finelli of Denton. He is also survived by two step-grandchildren, Tony Walls and Meredith Bennett; three great grandchildren; and four step-great-grandchildren.
A daughter, Norma Lee Gray from Bethel, Del., passed away on Sept. 3, 2002
A funeral service will be held on Tuesday afternoon at 1 p.m. at the Thomas Funeral Home in Cambridge with the Rev. Douglas M. Ridley officiating. Burial will follow at Dorchester Memorial Park.
The family will receive friends on Monday evening from 7:30 to 9 p.m. at the Thomas Funeral Home.
Honorary pallbearers will be: Bobby Willey, Gary Willey and Gary Burkey. Active pallbearers will be: Wayne Gray Sr., Wayne Gray Jr., Tory Spedden, Greg Webster, Bobby Green and Chris Finelli.

Robert S. Ruark
EASTON - Robert S. "Bob" Ruark, 75, of Hudson, passed away at the Memorial Hospital at Easton on Thursday, Dec. 12, 2002. He was born in Hudson on July 21, 1927, and was a son of the late Joseph W. and Nellie B. Seward Ruark.
He attended schools at Hudson. Mr. Ruark served in the U.S. Army From April 6, 1946 until Sept. 12, 1947. He served as a military policeman with the occupational force in Japan.
On Sept. 28, 1953 he married the former Peggy Elzey. He worked as a commercial waterman and boat builder for most of his life.
At the age of 19, he was the youngest dredge boat captain on the Chesapeake Bay, when he took over his father's boat. For a number of years he had run fishing parties.
He was a master shipwright in building the Nathan of Dorchester. Mr. Ruark derived a great deal of pleasure from building the Nathan.
He was a member of Beckwith United Methodist Church, Dorchester Post 91 American Legion, Choptank Memorial Post 7460 VFW, Cambridge Lodge 1272 B.P.O.E., Cambridge Lodge No. 66 A.F. & A.M., Boumi Temple, Scottish Rite in Baltimore and Salisbury and was an active member of Gideon's International.
He had been in failing health for several months and had been a patient at the Memorial Hospital at Easton since last Monday.
Survivors include his wife, Peggy E. Ruark of Hudson; one daughter, Ann Robinson of Cambridge; one son, Joseph S. Roark of Cambridge; five grandchildren, Christopher Lee Corkran, Carl Joseph Corkran, Christina Anne Ruark, Zachary Steele Ruark, Lucas Joseph Whitlock Ruark; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by seven brothers and sisters: Edna Sennett, Howard Ruark, Leroy Ruark, Milford Ruark, Ada Dibble, Alvin Ruark and Aileen English.
A funeral service will be held on Monday afternoon at 1 p.m. at the Thomas Funeral Home in Cambridge with the Rev. Donald Schell and the Rev. Randall. Blackmon officiating. Burial will follow at Spedden Seward Cemetery.
The family will receive friends on Sunday evening from 7 to 9 p.m. at the Thomas Funeral Home where members of Cambridge Lodge No. 66 A.F. & A.M. will conduct a Memorial service at 8 p.m.
Honorary pallbearers will be Whip Abbe, Marshall Wingate, Harold Ruark, Allen Elzey, Robert Cannon, Bill Cox, Vernon Hughes and Buddy Ruark. Active pallbearers will be: G. Edwin Howard Jr., Carl Corkran, Dennis Gilliard, Danny Windsor, William O. Elzey, Robert A. Insley and Neil Ruark.

James C. Hastings
LUMBERTON, N.C. - James Charles Hastings, 26, of Baltimore, formerly of Cambridge, died suddenly on Thursday, Dec. 12, 2002 in Lumberton, North Carolina.
Mr. Hastings was born April 3, 1976, the son of the late James Harlon Hastings and the late Shirley Mae Harris. He attended Cambridge-South Dorchester High School and graduated in 1996 from the Nashville Auto Diesel College.
Mr. Hastings is survived by one daughter, Hanna Hastings of Baltimore and his companion, Faith Robinson, of Baltimore.
Viewing will be conducted on Monday, Dec. 16, 2002, at 7 p.m., at the Zeller Funeral Home in East New Market. Funeral services and burial will be private.

Fredia I. F. Todd
HOOPER ISLAND - Fredia Irene Flowers Todd, age 82, of Hooper Island, died at the home of her daughter, Dot Davis of Hooper Island on Sunday morning, Dec. 15, 2002.
Mrs. Todd was the wife of the late Jake George Todd who died in 1995.
Surviving are four children: Dot Davis, Rebecca Shockley, Mary Vee Phillips and Phillip Todd.

Curtis R. Allen
HURLOCK - Curtis Ronald Allen, 55, formerly of Easton, passed away Friday, Dec. 13, 2002, at Peninsula Regional Medical Center in Salisbury following an illness.
Born Sept. 22, 1947, he was the son of Russell Allen and the late Margaret Allen of Easton. He was a 1967 graduate of Moton High School.
He was employed at Tidewater Inn, Doorlift and Wheaton Tubing and most recently worked for David Bramble until his health forced him to retire.
In addition to his father, he is survived by his wife, Debbie, whom he was with for 22 years; two daughters, Linda Winston and Letitia Fells of Easton; a special daughter, Virginia, of Easton; two sons, Corey Fells of Easton and Michael Collins of Baltimore; one brother, Joseph Allen of Easton; four sisters, Onetta Allen of Easton and Mebel White, Mary Allen and Janet Allen of Atlantic City, N.J.; four grandchildren, Mi'Shawn Collins, Myron Hayman, Jy'Mere Fells and Randei Collins; a special grandchild, Monique Thomas; mother- and father-in-law Alta and Harry Campbell of Felton, Del.; and several nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.
Besides his mother, he was preceded in death by one sister, Evelyn; one son, Curtis Jr.; and one niece, Sheryl Allen.
Funeral services were held Saturday at Union Baptist Church in Easton. Interment followed at Richardson Cemetery.
Arrangements were handled by Bennie Smith Funeral Home.
James R. Gonce
CROCHERON - James R. Gonce, 71, passed away at his home Tuesday evening, Dec. 17, 2002.
Born in Elkton on April 13, 1931, he had lived in Crocheron for the past 10 years. Prior to that, he lived in Cambridge most of his life.
He was a house painter and for 20 years worked with O'Neill Murphy. For the past 10 years, he worked with Tick and Tick Seafood.
There are no known survivors. His family consisted of John, Tommy and Tara Holotik.
A funeral service was conducted at the Thomas Funeral Home on Saturday. The Rev. Pardee Bramble officiated. Burial will take place at Green Lawn Cemetery.
Debrine M. Cusick
FEDERALSBURG - Debrine M. Cusick, 42, was stricken early Sunday morning, Dec. 22, 2002, and passed away at the emergency room at Memorial Hospital at Easton. She was the wife of Charles F. Cusick Jr.

Delma B. Ringo
RHODESDALE - Delma B. "Tootsie" Ringo, 76, died Thursday, Dec. 19, 2002, at Mallard Bay Care Center in Cambridge.
Born Feb. 9, 1926 in Finchville, she was the daughter of the late John and Alice Johnson Batson. She worked for the former Caroline Poultry Co. in Federalsburg and had worked as a domestic technician.
She was a member of Emmanuel Full Gospel Church in Seaford, Del.
She is survived by six children, Joyce Digsby of New Castle, Del., Joan Washington of Seaford, Michael Batson and Charles Batson of Finchville, Kenneth Batson of Hurlock and Jackie Pennington of Salisbury; 12 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; one brother, Oscar Batson of Easton; one sister, Mary Young of Hurlock; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by one son, Tyrone Benjamin Batson; three brothers, Alton Batson, Albert Batson and Curtis Batson; two sisters, Pauline Jackson and Irene Palmer; and a long-devoted friend, Harvey Everett Robinson.
Funeral services will be held 1 p.m. Friday at the Framptom-Hawkins-Eskow Funeral Home, P.A., in Federalsburg. The Rev. Diane Alexander will officiate. Burial will follow in Cokesbury Cemetery.
Friends may call 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
