MARY E. HARMAN
Mary Edith Harman, 62, Grantsville, formerly of Accident, died Wednesday, July 21, 1999, at Memorial Hospital, Cumberland.
Born Dec. 29, 1936, in Accident, she was a daughter of the late Elwood and Beatrice (Resh) Glotfelty. She was also preceded in death by a sister, Thelma Klotz.
She was a member of Zion Lutheran Church, Accident, a former member of the ladies aid, and a former member of the Cove Homemakers Club. She was a 4-H All-Star and was selected as the Garrett County Farm Queen in 1953. She was a 1957 graduate of the University of Maryland, College Park.
Survivors include one son, Keith E. Harman, Accident; one daughter, Jeanette L. Wampler, Accident; one brother, James Glotfelty, Accident; three sisters, Harriett Buckel, Grantsville, Alberta Nolder, Baltimore, and Bernadette Henson, St. Albans, W.Va.; and five grandchildren.
Friends were received at the Newman Funeral Home, Grantsville. A service was conducted at the Zion Lutheran Church on Saturday, July 24, with the Rev. Dr. Wilfred Karsten officiating. Interment was in the Bittinger Cemetery.

OPAL M. BAILEY
Opal M. Bailey, 73, Maysville, W.Va., died Tuesday, July 27, 1999, at Ruby Memorial Hospital, Morgantown, W.Va.
Born Aug. 3, 1925, in Kempton, she was a daughter of the late Porter H. and Lura M. (Knapp) Bell. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Robert W. Bailey Sr., in 1978.
Survivors include four daughters, Tommie Scott-Gottlieb, Gaithersburg, Gerri E. Leggio and Micki A. Vincent, both of Las Vegas, Nev., and Leslie C. Renzi, Strasburg, Va.; three sons, Wayne R. Vincent, Killeen, Texas, Robert W. 'Bob' Bailey Jr., Maysville, and Jeffrey L. Bailey, Mt. Storm, W.Va.; one sister, Ruby K. Allison, Mt. Storm; 15 grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
At Mrs. Bailey’s request, her body was cremated. A private memorial service will be conducted at a later date.
The Stewart Funeral Home, Oakland, is in charge of arrangements.
DAVID J. LICHTY
David J. Lichty, 84, Cumberland, died Sunday, July 25, 1999, at Memorial Hospital, Cumberland.
Born May 7, 1915, in Salisbury, Pa., he was a son of the late Jonas Simon and Lela Myrtle (Schramm) Lichty. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Edith (Deihl) Darnley Lichty; two brothers, his twin James J. Lichty, and Edward Lichty; and one sister, Ruth Boyer.
He was a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church, Cumberland. A U.S. Army veteran of World War II, he served with the 101st Infantry Co. I, 26th Division. He was a past post commander and member of the DAV Fort Washington Chapter #II. He had attended Penn State Dairy School, and retired from the Allegany County Board of Education as a custodian at Washington Junior High School. He was a member of the South Cumberland Business and Civic Association.
Survivors include three sisters, Mary Jo Shultz, Sarah Jane Lichty, and Patricia Louise Werner, all of Salisbury; and one brother, Paul J. Lichty, Salisbury.
Friends were received at the Hafer Chapel of the Hills Mortuary, LaVale. A service was conducted at St. John’s Lutheran Church on Wednesday, July 28, with Pastor Mark C. Dill officiating. Interment was in the Maryland State Veterans Cemetery at Rocky Gap. Military rites were accorded at the cemetery by members of the Combined Veterans Honor Guard.
Members of DAV Fort Washington Chapter #II conducted a service Tuesday evening at the funeral home.

ETTA L. FARLEY
Etta L. Farley, 52, LaVale, died Tuesday, July 27, 1999, at her home.
Born Oct. 23, 1946, in Parsons, W.Va., she was the daughter of the late Grant S. and Lottie L. (Steyer) Harvey.
She was a retired secretary for the Maryland State Lottery.
She is survived by one brother, John S. Harvey, Oakland.
Friends will be received at the Stewart Funeral Home, Oakland, from 7 to 9 p.m. today, Thursday. service will be conducted at the funeral home on Friday, July 30, at 2 p.m., with the Rev. Neil Parsons officiating. Interment will follow in the White Church Cemetery.
HIRAM R. METCALFE
Hiram R. 'Ted' Metcalfe, 83, Keyser, W.Va., formerly of Swanton and later Naples, Fla., died Thursday, July 15, 1999, at Moran Manor Nursing Home, Westernport.
Born in Beryl, W.Va., he was the son of the late Otis M. and Sarah E. (Waxler) Metcalfe.
He was a winter resident of Naples since 1982, coming from Swanton after retiring from Westvaco Corp., Luke, where he was employed for 41 years. At retirement, he was supervisor of the print shop.
He was a member of the Church of the Brethren, Westernport, where he served as a moderator and lifetime deacon. He served in the educational department as superintendent of the church school and taught Sunday School for approximately 50 years. He also served in the music department, the church choir, and in various quartets.
During the summer months, he attended the Swanton United Methodist Church, was assistant teacher of the Men’s Bible Class, and taught Vacation Bible School. While living at Swanton, he was host for the annual Volunteer Bible Class, Church of the Brethren, the annual Ashby reunion, and the annual Metcalfe reunion.
He was a member of the Swanton Community Senior Citizens’ Center; a member of Hiram Lodge 103 AF&AM, Westernport, where he served as Worshipful Master; a member of the Bethlehem Chapter 13 OES; a member of the Scottish Rite Free masonry 32nd degree, Cumberland; a member and past president of the Piedmont (W.Va.) Rotary Club and was a Paul Harris Fellow; a member of the Keyser Rotary Club; and was actively involved in various community organizations on the Keyser and Naples areas.
Survivors include his wife of 60 years, Helen (Ashby) Metcalfe; one son, Theodore L. 'Ted' Metcalfe, Keyser; one sister, Genevieve McAllister, Las Vegas, Nev.; one granddaughter; and one great-grandson.
Friends were received at the Markwood Funeral Home, Keyser. A service was conducted at the Church of the Brethren, Westernport, on Sunday, July 18, with the Rev. Ervin L. Huston and the Rev. William Shimer officiating. They were assisted by Robert Shimer. Interment was in Potomac Memorial Gardens, Keyser.
A memorial service was conducted by members of Hiram Lodge 103 AF&AM on Saturday evening.

CARL F. HAGER
Carl F. Hager, 70, Frostburg, died Thursday, July 15, 1999, at Sacred Heart Hospital, Cumberland.
Born June 13, 1929, in Zihlman, he was the son of Edna (Lashbaugh) Hager, a resident of St. Vincent de Paul Nursing Home, and the late Frank J. Hager.
He was retired from Allegany Ballistics Laboratory. He served in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean Conflict, and was a member of Salem United Church of the Brethren.
In addition to his mother, he is survived by his wife, Jacqueline 'Jackie' (Brant) Hager; two sons, Carl R. 'Rick' Hager, Midlothian, and Randall W. Hager, Orrtanna, Pa.; four daughters, Robin Burner, Finzel, Kimberly Eckhart, Lake Charles, La., Cindy Harrison, Frostburg, and Penny Lewis, Finzel; one sister, Shirley Miller, Finzel; and nine grandchildren.
Friends were received at the Sowers Funeral Home, Frostburg, where a service was conducted Saturday, July 17, with the Rev. Lawrence A. Neumark officiating.
Interment was in Rest Lawn Memorial Gardens, LaVale. Graveside military rites were accorded by members of American Legion Farrady Post 24.
LURA M. FOLK
Lura Mae Folk, 100, Grantsville, formerly of Springs, Pa., died Wednesday, July 14, 1999, at the Goodwill Mennonite Home, Grantsville.
Born Sept. 10, 1898, in Elk Lick Township, Pa., she was the daughter of the late Jonas and Alice (Yoder) Ash. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Cleman E. Folk, and a daughter, Roxanna Whisner.
She was one of the founders of Keystone Limestone Company. She was a former school teacher, a homemaker, a charter member of the Springs Historical Society, a lifelong member of the Springs Mennonite Church, where she served many years as a Sunday School teacher and in other capacities, and attended Juniata Teachers College.
Survivors include one son, Mark J. Folk, Springs; five grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.
A memorial service was conducted at the Springs Mennonite Church on Saturday, July 17, with the Rev. Steven Heatwole officiating. Interment was in the Springs Cemetery.

CHRISTA COSNER
Christa (Durer) Cosner, 52, Vepco Lake, Mt. Storm, W.Va., died Saturday, July 17, 1999, at her home.
Born Dec. 26, 1946, in Schweinfurt, West Germany, she was a daughter of Alma R. Hessler, Mt. Storm.
She was a member of the Mt. Storm Presbyterian Church for 20 years.
In addition to her mother, she is survived by one daughter, Patrica Smith, Mt. Storm; one son, Phillip L. Cosner, Mt. Storm; her exhusband, Eddie Cosner, Mt. Storm; one sister, Annalisa Duetcher, Germany; and four grandchildren.
Friends were received at the Stewart Funeral Home, Oakland. A service was conducted at the Mt. Storm Presbyterian Church on Monday, July 19, with the Rev. David Watterworth and the Rev. William Anderson officiating. Interment was in the Mt. Storm Cemetery.

REID ROSS
Reid Ross, 74, Malden, Mass., formerly of Jennings, died Thursday, June 10, 1999, at the Melrose-Wake-field Hospital, Melrose, Mass.
Born Feb. 1, 1925, in Jennings, he was a son of the late John L. and Jennie (Stuart) Ross.
He was a graduate of Grantsville High School. He was a 23-year veteran of the Malden Police Department, a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II, and participated in the D-Day invasion. He was a past commander of the Malden VFW Post 639, and a past state deputy vice commander of the American Legion.
Survivors include his wife, Veronica P. (Neagle) Ross; three sons, Patrick W. Ross, Malden, and Reid A. Ross Jr. and John Ross, both of New Hampshire; three daughters, Kathleen Ferguson, Louisiana, Maureen Ronald, Malden, and Jennifer Weber, New Hampshire; two brothers, Joseph Ross, Oklahoma, and Patrick Ross, New Mexico; 17 grandchildren; and 16 great-grandchildren.

EFFIE E. GLASS
Effie Elizabeth Glass, 82, Frostburg, died Thursday, July 15, 1999, at Sacred Heart Hospital, Cumberland.
Born Oct. 18, 1916, in Accident, she was a daughter of the late Harry and Sarah (Beckett) Margroff. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Olin A. Glass, in 1986; two daughters, Yvonne Glass and Marion Dixon; one sister, Elsie Savage; and two brothers, Roy and Raymond Margroff. She was the last surviving member of her immediate family.
She was a homemaker and a member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, Frostburg. She was also a member of Mountain Chapter No. 15 Order of the Eastern Star and a former member of the Frostburg Homemakers and the Frostburg Hospital Auxiliary.
Survivors include one son, John A. Glass, Frostburg; one daughter, Beverly Grady, Geneva, Ohio; 11 grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren.
Friends were received at the Durst Funeral Home, Frostburg, where a service was conducted Sunday, July 18, with the Rev. John J. Duffus officiating. Interment was in St. Paul’s Lutheran Cemetery, Accident.
