JACOB W. KNOTTS
MEYERSDALE, Pa. - Jacob Woodrow Knotts, 87, of Knotts Road, Meyersdale, died Wednesday, Jan. 31, 2001, at WMHS Memorial Hospital, Cumberland, Md.
Born June 7, 1913, in Parsons, W.Va., he was a son of the late Albert Lewis and Minnie Catherine (Davis) Knotts.
Mr. Knotts is survived by Virginia R. (Stemple) Knotts, his wife of 64 years, whom he married
Feb. 19, 1936; three sons, Richard A. and wife Jeanie (Wright), Frostburg, Md., Alfred R. and wife Joyce (Leydig), Berlin, and Jacob W. Jr. and wife Joyce (Wagner), Hagerstown, Md.; a daughter, Alma R., wife of Richard Schwanke, Abingdon, Md.; two brothers, Lester and wife Mary (Wagner), Meyersdale, and Clayton and wife Rosalea (Davis), Hambleton, W.Va.; 17 grandchildren; and 17 great-grandchildren.
Mr. Knotts was preceded in death by two sons; 10 brothers; and four sisters.
Mr. Knotts had retired from the Celanese Corporation, Cumberland, where he had worked in the Spinning Department. He was a past president of the Wellersburg Senior Citizens.
Friends will be received at the Harvey H. Zeigler Funeral Home, 169 Clarence St., Hyndman, on Thursday, Feb. 1, 2001, from 7 to 9 p.m.
Funeral services will be conducted at the funeral home on Friday, Feb. 2, at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Julie L. Applegate officiating.
Interment will be in the Mount Lebanon Cemetery, Glencoe.
The family requests that memorials in honor of Mr. Knotts be directed to the American Heart Association or the American Diabetes Association.

BALTIMORE - Friends will be received for William Derward "Shorty" Growden at the Scarpelli Funeral Home, P.A., 108 Virginia Ave., Thursday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.
Funeral services will be conducted at the funeral home Friday at 1 p.m.
Interment will be in the Maryland State Veterans cemetery at Rocky Gap, Flintstone.
MARY V. CONNELLY
COLUMBIA - Mary Virginia "Ginger" Connelly, 61, of Columbia, formerly of Frostburg, died Tuesday, Jan. 30, 2001, at her daughter's residence.
Born Sept. 11, 1939, in Frostburg, she was the daughter of Clifton E. Shirey, Potomac Park, and Mary Walker Keiling, Welsh Hill, Frostburg.
Mrs. Connelly was an accountant at the Fidelity Deposit and Insurance Corp., Baltimore. She was a member of St. Louis Catholic Church, Clarksville, and the Waynesboro Church, Waynesboro, Pa.
In addition to her parents, Mrs. Connelly is survived by her husband of 42 years, Richard F. Connelly, Columbia; one daughter, Carol Church and husband Boyd, Boonsboro; one son, Richard C. Connelly and wife Kimberly, Buckhannon, W.Va., and Sykesville; five granddaughters, Sienna and Arianna Church, Savannah, Breannah and Shyannah Connelly; one sister, Sylvia Favila, Glen Burnie; one brother, Clifton Bruce Shirey, Frostburg; and several nieces and nephews.
Friends will be received at the Durst Funeral Home, P.A., 57 Frost Ave., Frostburg, on Thursday from 7 to 9 p.m. and Friday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.
A funeral mass will be celebrated at St. Michael's Catholic Church, Frostburg, on Saturday at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Father William Moody as celebrant.
Following the funeral mass, her body will be cremated.
The family requests memorial contributions be made to the American Cancer Society, 1599 Clifton Road NE, Atlanta, GA 30329.

MAE C. CLISE
CUMBERLAND - Mae Catherine Clise, 84, of Cumberland, died Wednesday, Jan. 31, 2001, in the Cumberland Nursing Home.
Born Dec. 3, 1916, in Cumberland, she was the daughter of the late Oscar and Florence (Sturtz) Dreyer. She also was preceded in death by her husband, John Stanley Clise; two sons, Richard C. Clise and John P. Clise; and a grandson, John Clise.
She was a retired elevator operator for Cumberland Cloak and Suite Store and of the Lutheran faith.
Surviving are a son, James Clise of Eckhart; a daughter, Elsie Hausrath of Red Hill; nine grandchildren; numerous great-grandchildren; and a sister, Garnett Linnenbrogger of Cumberland.
Friends will be received at the Hafer Chapel of the Hills Mortuary, 1302 National Hwy., on Friday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.
Funeral services will be conducted in the funeral home chapel on Saturday, Feb. 3, 2001, at 11 a.m. with Pastor Charles A. Erzkus officiating.
Interment will follow in Rest Lawn Memorial Gardens, LaVale.
EUGENE E. CARDER
OLDTOWN - Eugene E. Carder, 86, of Oldtown, died Tuesday, Jan. 30, 2001, at Memorial Hospital Hospice.
Born May 23, 1914, in Cumberland, he was the son of the late Fayette and Mary (Emerick) Carder.
Mr. Carder was a retired electrician at P.P.G. Industries, Cumberland, for 23 years. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II and a lifetime member of the Oldtown VFW Post 9451.
Surviving are his wife of 55 years, Margaret E. (Paxton) Carder; one daughter, Kathy J. Meyerchick and husband Donald, Orlando, Fla.; one son, Richard Earl Carder and wife Donna, Cumberland; one brother, Howard N. Carder and wife Lucy Ann, Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio; and two grandchildren, Richard Carder Jr. and Lisa N. Carder.
At Mr. Carder's request, his body was donated to the Maryland Anatomical Board.
A memorial service will be conducted at the Scarpelli Funeral Home, P.A., 108 Virginia Ave., Cumberland, Saturday at 5 p.m. with Pastor Michael Henning officiating.

MARGARET A. PATTERSON
CHESTER, Va. - Margaret Ann "Maggie" Patterson, 86, of Chester, formerly of Woodbridge, went to be with the Lord on Tuesday, Jan. 30, 2001.
Born on Nov. 2, 1914, in Hyndman, Pa., she was the daughter of the late Irvin L. and Ida E. (Mull) Wertz. She was also preceded in death by her husband the Rev. William G. Patterson in 1978.
Surviving are one daughter, Ida Lee "Pat" Senter and husband David, Chester; two granddaughters, Terry Dougherty and husband Bruce, Mountain Home, Idaho, Meredith Meluch and husband Phillip, Jacksonville, Fla.; and one great-granddaughter, Tonya Dougherty.
Friends will be received at the Scarpelli Funeral Home, P.A., 108 Virginia Ave., Cumberland, on Wednesday from 7 to 9 p.m.
Graveside services will be conducted at Davis Memorial cemetery on Thursday at 11 a.m. with the Rev. William Bice officiating.

INEZ W. MIDDLETON
FROSTBURG - Inez W. Middleton, 86, formerly of 141 McCulloh St., died Monday, Jan. 29, 2001, at St. Vincent dePaul Nursing Care Center.
Born on Oct. 28, 1914, in Frostburg, she was the daughter of the late Floyd and Vera (Dailey) Middleton. She was also preceded in death by one brother, Ray Middleton; and two sisters, May Middleton and Mary Hughes.
Miss Middleton was retired from the coning department of the Celanese Fibers Corp. She attended the First Congregational Church.
Surviving are one daughter, Nancy Hunter, Frostburg; one sister, Betty Harden, Frostburg; two brothers, Larry Middleton, Hagerstown, and Ritchie Middleton, Frostburg; three grandchildren, Charles Hunter and wife Cheryl, Ridgeley, W.Va., Lori McKenzie and husband Gary, Finzel, and Jeffrey Hunter and wife Cassie, Frostburg; five great-grandchildren, Tara Hunter, Sadie and Addie McKenzie, Keleigh and Kory Hunter.
Friends will be received at the Durst Funeral Home, P.A., 57 Frost Ave., Frostburg, on Wednesday from 6:30 to 9 p.m.
The funeral and committal services will be conducted at the funeral home on Thursday at 1 p.m. with the Rev. Joseph Penick officiating.
