DOROTHY A. HINKLE
CUMBERLAND - Dorothy Anna Hinkle, 84, of Cumberland, passed away on Monday, Jan. 29, 2001, at Memorial Hospital and is now at peace with our Heavenly Father.
Born Aug. 6, 1916, in Hagerstown, she was the daughter of the late George E. Sweigert and the late Gladys Seminario. She also was preceded in death by her husband of 52 years, Robert Hinkle; and an infant daughter, Dee Ann.
Mrs. Hinkle was a talented clothing designer and seamstress. She was a 1935 graduate of Pennsylvania Avenue High School.
Mrs. Hinkle was a long-time and dedicated member of Trinity United Methodist Church, where she was a former member of the choir and a member of the Gleaners Sunday School Class. She was a member of McKinley Chapter #12 Order of the Eastern Star, a Past Mother Advisor of Cumberland Assembly #6, International Order of the Rainbow for Girls, and a past President of B.P.O.E. #63 Ladies of the Elks. She also was a member of the South Cumberland Business and Civic Association.
Surviving are one daughter, Bobbie Ann Cropp and husband Lawrence, Cumberland; two granddaughters, Dee Griffith and husband Richard, Warrenton, Va., and Tiffani Utz and husband John, Winchester, Va.; and four great-grandchildren, Kaila Griffith, Genesis Utz, Kelsie Utz and Tanner Utz, who brought tremendous joy in her life.
Friends and family will be received at the Scarpelli Funeral Home, P.A., 108 Virginia Ave., Tuesday from 3 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. The Order of the Eastern Star will conduct a memorial service Tuesday at 8 p.m. at the funeral home.
Funeral services will be conducted at the funeral home Wednesday at 12 noon with Pastor Glenn Capacchione officiating.
Interment will be in Hillcrest Memorial Park.
The family requests memorials be made in the form of contributions to the Trinity United Methodist Church and the Gail Saks Memorial Scholarship Fund, I.O.R.G.
Pallbearers will be Kenneth Crippen, Richard Griffith, John Utz, Barry Witt, Ray Humbertson and Larry Hause.
VIRGINIA DUCKWORTH
LONACONING - Virginia Duckworth, 81, of 19 Gills Hill, Lonaconing, died Monday, Jan. 29, 2001, at Memorial Hospital, Cumberland.
Born in Barton on Feb. 25, 1919, she was the daughter of the late Dewey and Naomi Llewellyn. Her husband, Patrick Duckworth in 1982; and several brothers and sisters also preceded her in death.
Mrs. Duckworth was a homemaker and a member of the First United Methodist Church, Lonaconing.
Surviving are a son, Randy Duckworth and wife Brenda of Barton; two grandchildren, Carrie and Ryan Duckworth; two half-brothers, Sylvan Llewellyn and Gene Llewellyn, both of Barton; and two half-sisters, Juanita Miller of Barton and Laverne Guinn of Frostburg.
The family will receive friends at the Boal Memorial Chapel, Barton, on Wednesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.
Funeral and interment services will be conducted at the Chapel on Thursday at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Richard Mortimore officiating.
Burial will be in the Laurel Hill Cemetery, Moscow Mills.
ANNA R. GLESSNER
CUMBERLAND - Anna Ruth Glessner, 79, of 330 McGill Drive, Cumberland, died Sunday, Jan. 28, 2001, at the Cumberland Nursing Home.
Born on May 14, 1921, in Meyersdale, Pa., she was the daughter of the late of William Platter and Annie (Foy) Platter. She was also preceded by her husband, Paul Brant Glessner on April 28, 1997.
Mrs. Glessner was a homemaker. She attended Cresaptown United Methodist Church, and was the last surviving member of her immediate family.
She is survived by a son, P. Kenneth Glessner and wife Mary Catherine, Cresaptown; a daughter, Lois Ann Davis and husband Roy, Santa Anna, Calif.; two grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
Friends will be received at the Merritt-Adams Funeral Home, P.A., 404 Decatur St., Cumberland, on Tuesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.
Services will be conducted at the funeral home on Wednesday at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Harold R. McClay officiating.
Interment will be in the Maryland State Veterans cemetery at Rocky Gap.
The family requests that memorials be made to the Sunshine Club, c/o Cumberland Nursing Home, 512 Winifred Road, Cumberland.
NAOMA E. FUNDERBURG
BURLINGTON, W.Va. - Naoma E. Funderburg, 96, of Burlington, died Saturday, Jan. 27, 2001, at Memorial Hospital, Cumberland, Md.
Born on Nov. 17, 1904, in Burlington, she was a daughter of the late Allen U. and Bertha (Leatherman) Welch. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Charles William Funderburg on Jan. 31, 1987; four brothers, Thomas, Oscar, John and Baker Welch; and four sisters, Charlotte Harrison, Elwanda Gelletly, Salome Whipp and Mary Welch.
Mrs. Funderburg was a homemaker. She was a member of the Burlington United Methodist Church and was a life member of the United Methodist Women of the Church.
Surviving are two sons, Frank A. Funderburg and wife Patricia, New Creek, William F. Funderburg and wife Zola, Burlington; one brother, Israel Welch, Burlington; three grandchildren, Debbie Wilmoth, Kurt Funderburg and Libby Norman; and two great-grandchildren, Jeremy Jennings and Daniel Funderburg.
Friends may call at the Smith Funeral Home, Burlington Chapel, on Tuesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.
Funeral services will be conducted at the Smith Funeral Home, Burlington Chapel, on Wednesday at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Jack Sanders officiating.
Interment will be in Arnold Cemetery, Junction.
ALVIN B. EICHORN
GRANTSVILLE - Alvin Bruce Eichorn, 80, of Grantsville, died Saturday, Jan. 27, 2001, at Goodwill Mennonite Home, Grantsville.
Born on Oct. 3, 1920, in Meyersdale, Pa., he was a son of the late Henry Arthur Eichorn and Annie Lee (Miller) Eichorn Scheffel. He was also preceded in death by two sons, Keith and Robert; and one sister, Sara Mast.
Mr. Eichorn was a member of Springs Mennonite Church and was retired from Kaiser Refractories, Zihlman.
He is survived by his wife, Virginia Rae (Leith) Eichorn; three sons, Arthur, Laurel, Leonard, Salisbury, Pa., and Dwight, Shepherdstown, W.Va.; two daughters, Donna Winters, Frostburg, Janet Blocher, Grantsville; one sister, Vera Beitzel, Salisbury; four half-brothers, Jonas and Paul Scheffel, both of Somerset, Pa., David Scheffel, Lancaster, and John Scheffel, Adamstown; one half-sister, Catherine King, Cochranville, Pa.; one step-brother, Clarence Scheffel, Lewistown, Pa.; 28 grandchildren; and 30 great-grandchildren.
Memorial services will be conducted on Wednesday at 2 p.m. at the Newman Funeral Homes, P.A., Grantsville, with the Rev. Steven Heatwole officiating.

RUTH B. DICKEN
PHOENIX, Ariz. - Ruth B. Dicken, 77, formerly of Potomac Park, of Phoenix, died Saturday, Jan. 27, 2001, in Lions Manor Nursing Home.
Born on Feb. 19, 1923, in Cumberland, Md., the daughter of the late James and Gladys (Burgess) Burgin. She was also preceded in death by a brother, James Burgin.
Mrs. Dicken and her husband, Austin, came back East from Arizona to visit with family this past summer and became ill in late July. Her illness persisted and she was unable to return back to Arizona. After many days in the hospital, she became a patient of the nursing home. She and her husband celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary in Sacred Heart Hospital. Mrs. Dicken received a degree in Business while living in Arizona and had been employed with a bank and then worked with the St. Francis Catholic cemetery in Arizona. She was a member of the Ladies Elks Auxiliary and the BPW.
Surviving are her husband of 60 years, Austin Harley Dicken, who at this time has also been ill and is currently a patient at Sacred Heart Hospital; two half-sisters, Dorothy and Patricia McGreevy, both of Phoenix; two sisters-in-law, Maxine Hendrickson of Cumberland, and Nellie Dicken of Lewistown, Pa.; and several nieces and nephews.
Friends will be received at the Hafer Chapel of the Hills Mortuary, 1302 National Highway, LaVale, on Tuesday from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m.
Services will follow at 1 p.m. in the funeral home chapel with the Rev. Douglas Seaman officiating.
Interment will be held in the Wesley Chapel Cemetery.
Memorials may be made to the Western Maryland Health Systems Sacred Heart Hospice, 900 Seton Drive, Cumberland.
