WANDA STEWART
PIEDMONT, W.Va. -- Wanda Stewart, 47, of 41 Lyons St., Piedmont, died Saturday, Feb. 17, 2001, at Memorial Hospital in Cumberland, Md.
She was born in Keyser, on Oct. 8, 1953, at was the daughter of Frederick O. Green, McCoole, Md., and Georgia Bryan Evans of Piedmont.
She was a Protestant by faith. She had been employed at Moran Manor Nursing Home in Westernport, Md.
She is survived by two sons, Chris Green and fiancee Autumn Kyle, Westernport, and Ricky Ray Stewart of Piedmont; one daughter, Faith Green, Piedmont; one sister, Mrs. Karen S. Virts, Piedmont; three grandchildren, Bradley, Brendon and Courtney Green of Westernport; one niece, Tina Marie Virts of Keyser; and one great-nephew, Micah Virts of Keyser. She is also survived by three step brothers and three step sisters.
Two brothers, Robert and Thomas Bryan; and one great nephew, Matthew Virts, preceded her in death .
The family will receive friends at the Fredlock Funeral Home in Piedmont on Monday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.
Funeral services will be held at Trinity United Methodist Church on Tuesday at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Joseph Jarrett, Pastor, officiating.
Interment will be in Potomac Memorial Gardens, Keyser.

BETTY L. GEORGE
CUMBERLAND -- Betty Lee George, 77, of Cumberland, went to be with the Lord on Saturday, Feb. 17, 2001, at Sacred Heart Hospital.
Born on June 15, 1923, in Cumberland, she was the daughter of the late Randolph B. Hartley and Nela (Alt) Hartley. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Doyal B. George; a brother, Howard R. Hartley; and a sister, Genevieve Leasure.
Mrs. George was a member of Central Assembly of God Church, where she taught Sunday school and was a Missionette Leader and involved in Women's Ministries.
She is survived by four daughters, Barbara J. Gaumer and husband Curtis, Cumberland, Norma L. George, Margate, Fla., Shirley A. Snyder, Cumberland, and Dottie S. Wagoner and husband Rick, Fort Ashby, W.Va.; a brother, Joseph B. Hartley and wife Julia, Cumberland; two sisters, Ruth E. Leasure, Tarentum, Pa., Eloise Sarah Knippenberg, Cumberland; six grandchildren, Greg Gaumer and wife Carol, Cumberland, Shay Cole and husband Billy, Margate, Fla., Shannon Lewis and wife Amy, Lakeland, Fla., Trisha Wagoner, Fort Ashby, W.Va., Tara Hockaday and husband John, Fort Ashby, Sherri Snyder, Cumberland; five great-grandchildren, Zachary Cole, Brady Gaumer, Brennen Cole, Carter Lewis and Kristin Shoemaker; and a special great-granddaughter expected in April, Alli Brooke Hockaday.
Friends will be received at the Merritt-Adams Funeral Home, P.A., 404 Decatur St., Cumberland, on Monday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.
Services will be conducted at Central Assembly of God Church, 2020 Bedford St., Cumberland, on Monday at 1 p.m. with the Rev. Douglas Seaman and the Rev. Robert Hymes officiating.
Interment will be in Sunset Memorial Park.
Mrs. George will be taken to the church one hour prior to the service.
GARY BLAKE
SAVANNAH, Ga. -- Gary Blake, 57, died Feb. 17, 2001, at home under the care of Hospice Savannah. He was born in Cumberland, Md., and was a resident of Savannah for the last 13 years.
Mr. Blake held the position of Jail Administrator at the Chatham County Sheriff's Complex, beginning in June 1987, and was formerly Director of Montgomery County Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation. His career in law enforcement included: Director of the Detention Center of Montgomery County Department of Correction and Rehabilitation, Community Corrections Task Force Assistant Director of the State of Maryland Department of Corrections, Work Release Supervisor and Correctional Treatment Coordinator of Montgomery County Detention Center, Teacher-Academic Instructor of the State of Maryland Department of Corrections, Adjunct Faculty of Montgomery College, Rockville, Maryland Campus, Advisory Board for Criminal Justice at Montgomery College, Technical Assistant to county jails through the National Institute of Corrections, Consultant for the American Correctional Association, numerous advisory and steering committee positions, auditor for Commission on Accreditation for Corrections, and expert witness in correctional litigation.
Professional positions and associations include: Member of the American Correctional Association, President and Secretary/Treasurer of the Maryland Correctional Administrators Association, President and Area Delegate of the Maryland Parole Probation and Correction Association, Member Advisory Committee, Maryland Project to Improve Health Care in Jails, Vice-Chairman and Commission member of the Maryland State Training Commission, State Board Members of Offender Aide and Restoration, member of Urban Consortium for National Institute Host Program Criminal Justice Task Force member, Vice-president, National Jail Association, Treasurer and Executive Committee Member of Commission on Accreditation for Corrections, Chairman of State and Local Policy Board in Maryland, member of Correctional Standards Committee for American Correctional Association, including experience with policy development ability, jail population management, budget, staff management, government, management of facility construction, remodeling, and maintenance, oral and written presentation and legal issues management. He was a member of the Loyal Order of Moose, Fraternal Order of Eagles, Knights of Columbus and held a Master of Science Degree from Shippensburg State College, in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania and a Bachelor of Science Degree from Frostburg State College in Maryland.
Gary is survived by his wife, Kathy Blake of Savannah; his stepson, John Patrick McMahon III of Savannah; his stepdaughter, Jeanne McMahon of Savannah; an aunt, Mary Margaret Dougherty of Cumberland, Md.; a niece, Alexis Blake of Baltimore, Md.; a cousin, Joanne Vaughan of Dallas, Texas; and many friends and associates.
The family will receive visitors on Tuesday from 5 to 7 p.m. at St. Peter the Apostle, Wilmington Island, where Mr. Blake was a communicant.
The Funeral Mass will be held Wednesday at 10 a.m. also at St. Peter the Apostle Catholic Church, followed by a reception in the gymnasium at the church.

GEORGE W. WHITEHEAD JR.
MOUNT SAVAGE -- George William Whitehead Jr., 83, of 17014 Mount Savage Road, Frostburg, died Thursday, Feb. 15, 2001, at Sacred Heart Hospital.
Born on March 20, 1917, in Midlothian, he was a son of the late George W. Sr. and Clara Belle (Skidmore) Whitehead. He was also preceded in death by one sister, Naomi Bevan.
Mr. Whitehead was retired from the maintenance department of the Kaiser Refractories, Zihlman, and was an U.S. Army veteran of World War II. He was a member of the Mount Savage United Methodist Church, Frostburg Elks #470, Frostburg Moose #348, Barrelville Outdoor Club, Kennells Mills Outdoor Club, Piney Mountain Sportsman Club and Old Rail Post #6025, VFW.
Surviving are his wife of 63 years, Dorothy Leona (Baker) Whitehead; one son, A. Dale Whitehead and wife Peggy, Frostburg; three grandchildren, Karen Spence and husband Jarret, Keyser, W.Va., Michael Whitehead and Lorri Whitehead, both of Frostburg; two great-grandchildren, Cameron Spence and Abigail Spence; one brother, Harold Whitehead and wife Marilyn, Bonita Springs, Fla.; one sister, Betty Jean Grim and husband Fred, Akron, Ohio; three sisters-in-law, Mary Baer and Goldie Sturtz, both of Frostburg, and Katherine Baker, Wilmington, Del.; two brothers-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Bernard Baker, Wilmington, and Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Baker, Wellersburg; and several nieces and nephews.
Friends will be received at the Durst Funeral Home, P.A., 57 Frost Ave., Frostburg, on Sunday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.
Funeral services will be conducted at 1 p.m. Monday at the funeral home with the Rev. Richard C. Broome Jr. and the Rev. Everett J. Spence officiating.
Interment will be in Rest Lawn Memorial Gardens, LaVale. Military honors will be accorded at graveside by members of the Old Rail Post #6025 VFW.
Pallbearers will be Michael Whitehead, Jarret Spence, Tim Martin, Chet Bevan, Jim Dickel Jr., David Dickel, Artie King, Robert Sturtz and Dale Sturtz.
ROBERT J. MINNICK
FROSTBURG -- Robert J. Minnick, 69, of 11519 Dobbin Drive, NW, Frostburg, died Thursday, Feb. 15, 2001, at Sacred Heart Hospital.
Born on July 8, 1931, in Frostburg, he was the son of the late Marion and Mildred (Jefferies) Minnick. Mr. Minnick was preceded in death by his parents; two sons, Robert Minnick and Gary J. Minnick, who died on Aug. 9, 1999; and one brother, James Minnick.
Mr. Minnick was retired from the Winner Brother's Coal Company and formerly worked at Kaiser Refractories.
Mr. Minnick was a member of Saint Michael's Catholic Church, Fraternal Order of Eagles Aerie 1273, and Loyal Order of Moose Lodge 348, all of Frostburg.
He is survived by his wife, Isabel (Caton) Minnick; two daughters, Carolyn Williams and husband James, Frostburg, and Teresa Topper and husband Dave, Finzel; one son, Joe Minnick and wife Christine, Frostburg; one brother, Raymond Minnick and wife Mary Ann, Frostburg; one sister, Leona Baker, Eckhart; nine grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Friends will be received at the Durst Funeral Home, P.A., 57 Frost Ave., Frostburg, on Saturday from 7 to 9 p.m. and Sunday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.
A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at Saint Michael's Catholic Church on Monday at 10 a.m. with the Rev. Fr. Paul Byrnes as celebrant.
Interment will be in Finzel Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be in Dave Pennington, Jerry Tenny, Dave Kitiz, Terry McKenzie, Danny McKenzie and Roy Wilhelm.
