MARTHA E. KNOTT
KEYSER, W.Va. -- Martha Elizabeth Knott, 87, of 300 Hawthorne Road, Keyser, died Thursday, Feb. 15, 2001, at the Heartland of Keyser Nursing Home.
Born on Nov. 16, 1913, in Allegany County, Md., she was a daughter of the late Harry Stanley and Victoria (Smiley) Uhl. She was also preceded in death by one sister, Dorothea Finistrella; and a son-in-law, Howard Inskeep.
Mrs. Knott was a 1932 graduate of Bruce High School, Westernport, Md. She was a member of the Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church, Keyser, and Alkire Chapter #10, Order of the Eastern Star, Keyser. She loved being and artist and devoted her life to her family and grandchildren.
Surviving are her husband of 67 years, William C. Knott; one son, William V. Knott and wife Phyllis, Fairmont; two daughters, Mary Elizabeth Inskeep, Frostburg, Md., and Barbara Ann Johnson and husband Ronald, Hampstead, Md.; one brother, Victor W. Uhl, Vacaville, Calif.; six grandchildren, Howard Keven Inskeep and wife Robin, Heather Karen Inskeep and fiancé Bernie Leatherman, Harold Kent Inskeep and wife Elaine, Holly Kathleen Harris and husband Brian, William Jeffrey Knott and Susan Rachelle Scott and husband Craig; and six great-grandchildren, Christopher, Kristen, Dustin, William, Katie and Devin.
Friends may call at the Smith Funeral Home, Keyser, on Sunday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.
Funeral services will be conducted at the Smith Funeral Home, Keyser, on Monday at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Michael Tamorria officiating.
Interment will be in Queen's Point Cemetery, Keyser.
ELVA K. SMITH
CARPENDALE, W.Va. -- Elva Katherine Smith, 84, of Carpendale, died Thursday, Feb. 15, 2001, at Memorial Hospital.
Born on March 1, 1916, in Randolph County, she was the daughter of the late James A. and Maudie C. (Smith) Morlen. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Jesse L. Smith; two sons, Stanley Smith and Roy Smith; two daughters, Patricia Smith, and infant who died at birth; two brothers, Hansel Morlen and Gilbert Morlen; one sister, Sylvia Smith; and one great-grandson.
Mrs. Smith had worked at the Celanese Corp., and the Union Laundry. More recently, she had been employed by the Mineral County Commission on Aging and Family Services, and had served as manager of the Ridgeley Senior Citizens Center.
She belonged to the Redmans, Ridgeley Senior Citizens and the Ladies Auxiliary, F.O.E., Aerie #245.
Survivors include one son, Ronald Smith and wife Judy, Carpendale; two daughters, Ellamae Myers and husband Jim and Wanda McDonald, all of Carpendale; two brothers, Oras Morlen, Wiley Ford, and Oscar Morlen, Carpendale; one sister, Frances L. Owens, Baltimore, Md.; 11 grandchildren, Ronald "Butch" Smith Jr., Dale Smith, Wendy Rosskamp, Sherry Smith, Kathy Adams, Katrina Myers, Jamie Crawford, James "Jay" Myers Jr., Richard McDonald Jr., Kevin McDonald, and Greg McDonald; 22 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandson.
Friends will be received at the Upchurch Funeral Home, P.A., 202 Green St., Cumberland, on Saturday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.
The funeral service will be conducted from the funeral home on Sunday at 1 p.m. with the Rev. Roger Tuning officiating.
Interment will be in Cherry Hill Cemetery, Upper Tract.
Grandsons will serve as pallbearers.

GEORGE A. WEAVER
CONFLUENCE, Pa. -- George A. Weaver, 71, of Confluence, formerly of Valley Road, Cumberland, Md., died Friday, Feb. 16, 2001, at Somerset Hospital, Somerset.
Born on May 13, 1929, in Cumberland, he was the son of the late Roy M. and Marie (Thomas) Weaver. He was also preceded in death by one brother, John Tom Weaver Sr.
Mr. Weaver was a former member of the National Guard.
Surviving are Esther E. Weaver, Cumberland; one daughter, Diane Blubaugh and husband John, Frostburg, Md.; one sister, Marge Nazelroad and husband Derl, Eureka, Calif.; two grandchildren, John Blubaugh and wife Stacey, Eckhart, Md., Lori Krumpach and husband Dave, Lonaconing, Md.; four great-grandchildren, Leaha, Wesley, Emily and Hanna; three nephews; two nieces; and a special caretaker, Karen Miller, Confluence.
Friends will be received at the Scarpelli Funeral Home, P.A., 108 Virginia Ave., Cumberland, on Monday from 11 a.m. until 12 p.m.
Funeral services will be conducted at the funeral home on Monday at 12 p.m. with the Rev. Francis Morris officiating.
Interment will be in Frostburg Memorial Park.
BESSIE E. MAUZY
FLINTSTONE -- Bessie Elene Mauzy, 85, of Gilpin Road, NE, Flintstone, died Friday, Feb. 16, 2001, at the home of her son, R. Larry Mauzy and his wife Alana, Ijamesville.
Born on July 15, 1915, in New Paris, Pa., she was the daughter of the late Jacob H. Allison and Rose Gladys (Meyers) Allison. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Aubrey D. Mauzy on Feb. 12, 1986; a son-in-law, Leo Martin; and five brothers.
Mrs. Mauzy was a homemaker.
She is survived by three sons, Aubrey "Boots" Mauzy and wife Shirley, Flintstone, Keith O. Mauzy and wife Janice, Thurmont, R. Larry Mauzy and wife Alana, Ijamesville; seven daughters, Janet Martin, Lawrenceville, Ga., Barbara Creek and husband Bill, Moore, S.C., Linda Brown, Tucker, Ga., Allison Cook and husband Larry, Daleville, Va., Martha Mauzy, Mount Savage, Nancy Romano and husband Barry, Newark, Del., Pamela Shriver and husband Gary, Flintstone; 20 grandchildren; three step-grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Marion Warner, Mercersburg, Pa., and Ethel Barnes and husband Walter, Flintstone.
Friends will be received at the Merritt-Adams Funeral Home, P.A., 404 Decatur St., Cumberland, on Sunday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.
Services will be conducted at the funeral home on Monday at 10 a.m. with the Rev. Fred Iser officiating.
Interment will be in Glendale Cemetery, Flintstone.
ALFRED W. BRITTEN
CUMBERLAND -- Alfred W. Britten, 77, of Cumberland, died Thursday, Feb. 15, 2001, at Memorial Hospital.
Born on Feb. 24, 1923, in Cumberland, he was a retired clerk for the B&O Railroad and was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II. He was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church, the Cumberland VFW and the September Singers.
Surviving are his wife, Dorothy E. Britten; one daughter, Cheryl Ann Britten; two sons, William Henry Britten and Mark Allen Britten, all of Cumberland; two grandchildren, Kevin Sean Britten, Brandi Kylene Britten; and one great-granddaughter, Pepper Ann Shiloh Britten.
Friends will be received at the Scarpelli Funeral Home, P.A., 108 Virginia Ave., Cumberland, on Sunday from 3 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m.
Funeral services will be conducted at St. John's Lutheran Church on Tuesday at 11 a.m. with Pastor Mark C. Dill officiating. Friends will be received at the church one hour prior to the service.
Inurnment will be in Odd Fellows Cemetery, Flintstone.
At Mr. Britten's request, his body will be cremated.
VAUDA L. TAYLOR
WESTERNPORT -- Vauda L. Taylor, 91, of 102 Spring St., Westernport, died Friday, Feb. 16, 2001, at Sacred Heart Hospital, Cumberland.
Born in Westernport, on Jan. 2, 1910, she was the daughter of the late Elkany and Cora Bell (Bobo) Likens. She was also preceded in death by her first husband, Michael Costabile in 1970; and her second husband, Henry Taylor in 1984; three brothers, Lloyd, Claude and William Likens; and a sister, Elsie Strong.
Mrs. Taylor was a member of the First Baptist Church, Westernport. She was a former employee of the Celanese Fibers Corp. She also worked at Jake's Market and Jone's Market, both of Westernport.
Surviving are a special niece, Betty Wright of Westernport; a special nephew, Richard Strong of Westernport; several stepchildren; and other nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.
The family will receive friends at the Boal Funeral Home, Westernport, on Saturday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.
Funeral services will be conducted at the funeral home on Sunday at 1 p.m. with the Rev. Eric Durden officiating.
Interment will be in Philos Cemetery, Westernport.
