BISHOPVILLE -- Mary Catherine "Muzz" (Smith) Twist, 61, of Bishopville, formerly of Cumberland, died Tuesday, Feb. 20, 2001, in Atlantic General Hospital, Berlin.
Born Feb. 26, 1939, she was the daughter of the late Raymond Clark Smith Sr. and the late Grace Mae (Lewis) Smith. She was preceded in death by one son, Donald L. Collins; one sister, Virginia Adams; one stepsister, Ginger Phillips; and her stepmother, Mary Edna (George) Smith.
Surviving are her loving husband of 21 years, Andrew J. "A.J." Twist; five daughters, Grace J. Adkins, Ijamesville, Cindy R. Gulbronson and husband David, Norfolk, Va., Verna Blevins and husband Lee, Manassas, Va., Billie J. Ashby and husband Spanky, Oakland, and Betty J. Wallizer, Cresaptown; two sons, Ronald N. Collins and wife Denise, Rockville, and James R. Collins and wife Karena, Frederick; one sister, Wanda Farrell and husband Jimmy, Mechanicsville; three brothers, Raymond Smith and wife Robin, Short Gap, Thomas "Tink" Smith and wife Dawn, Cumberland, and Michael Smith and wife Charlotte, Cumberland; three stepsisters, Shirley Lease and husband Bill, Augusta, W.Va., Judy Plummer, Cumberland, and Mary George, Paw Paw, W.Va.; six stepbrothers, Bud George and wife Suzie, Rawlings, Bob George and wife Larna, Cresaptown, Gene George and wife Liddy Ann, Cumberland, Johnny George and wife Sharon, Ridgeley, W.Va., Davy George and wife Laura, Ridgeley; and Ray George, Cumberland; 21 grandchildren; one great-granddaughter; and several nieces and nephews.
Friends will be received at the Scarpelli Funeral Home, P.A., 108 Virginia Ave., on Saturday from 2 to 4 p.m.
At Mrs. Twist's request, her body will be cremated.
ALICE J. MARTIN
MOUNT SAVAGE -- Alice Jeannette Martin, 82, of New Row Road NW, Mount Savage, died Tuesday, Feb. 20, 2001, at St. Vincent dePaul Nursing Center, Frostburg.
Friends will be received at the Durst Funeral Home, P.A., 57 Frost Ave., Frostburg, on Friday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.
Funeral services will be conducted at the Mount Savage United Methodist Church on Saturday at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Richard C. Broome Jr. officiating.
Interment will be in the Mount Savage Methodist Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Ken Martin, Tim Martin, Michael Sweitzer, Tom Beal, Ken Nolan and Mike King.

LYDIA S. RAINES
MARTINSVILLE, Va. -- Lydia See Raines, 80, of 1105 Highland St., Martinsville, died Thursday, Feb. 22, 2001, at her residence.
Born May 6, 1920, in Hampshire County, W.Va., she was the daughter of the late Eston S. and Bulah Lavina Stikley See. She also was preceded in death by one son, Stephen A. Raines Sr.; one stepson, George W. Raines; one brother, Loal See; and five sisters, Ethelyn Keirsey, Cathaleen S. McDonald, Jurldean S. Keeler, Doris See and Agnes See.
Mrs. Raines was retired from Dupont with 27-1/2 years service. She was a member of the United Brethren, Singers Glen, and the Martinsville-Henry County Rescue Squad Auxiliary. She graduated from New Hope High School in Waynesboro, as Salutatorian of her class.
Surviving are two daughters, Sheila R. Abbott of Martinsville, and Lisa R. Lewis of Snow Creek; one stepdaughter, Ruby L. Lucus of Keyser, W.Va.; one son, James Eston Raines of Patrick Springs; one stepson, Cecil Andrew Raines of York, Pa.; two sisters, Loretta S. Heflin of Stephen City, and Myrtle S. Stover of Broadway; nine grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; 14 step-grandchildren; and 36 step-great-grandchildren.
Friends will be received at the Norris Funeral Services, 1500 Kings Mountain Road, Martinsville, on Sunday from 7 to 8:30 p.m. At other times, the family will be at the residence.
Funeral service will be held in the Norris Funeral Services Chapel, Martinsville, on Monday, Feb. 26, 2001, at 2 p.m. with Pastor Karen Shelton and Pastor Don Reynolds officiating.
Burial will be in the Roselawn Burial Park.

ALICE B. BARNARD
BARTON -- Alice B. Barnard, 76, of 19424 Dogwood Flat Lane, Barton, died Wednesday, Feb. 21, 2001, at the home of her daughter in Frostburg.
Born in Frostburg on Nov. 7, 1924, she was the daughter of the late Calvin Sheridan and Clara Christine (Dye) Bucklew. Her husband, William A. Barnard in 1961, and a brother, John Calvin Bucklew also preceded her in death.
Mrs. Barnard was retired from the Allegany Board of Education, having been a Teacher's Aide. She formerly worked at McCoole and Barton Elementary Schools. She was a member of the Barton United Methodist Church, where she was a member of the Friendly Helpers Bible Class, and a member of the Administrative Board. Mrs. Barnard was a member of the Bethlehem Chapter #14 Order of Eastern Star, the Barton Legion #189 Ladies Auxiliary, the Barton-Lonaconing Senior Citizens where she was the group tour chairperson, and the Barton Homemakers.
Surviving are a son, William A. Barnard Jr. and wife Karen of Lonaconing; two daughters, Beverly B. Moore and husband Floyd of Frostburg, and Sherry Deutsch and husband William of Ruffsdale, Pa.; one brother, George W. Bucklew and wife Alice of LaVale; one sister-in-law, Viola "Toddy" Bucklew of Frostburg; eight grandchildren, Floyd A. Moore Jr. and wife Dawn, Brian S. Moore and fiancé Robin Baer, Steve Moore and friend Alicia Arnold, Chris Moore and friend Julie Arnold, Cindy Moore and friend Phillip Merling, Sean Deutsch and wife Melissa, Dawn Barnard and friend Wes Cooper, and Charlie Barnard and fiancé Teri Marion; nine great-grandchildren, Floyd Moore III, Elizabeth Ann Moore, Aaron Moore, Jason Moore, Alyson Moore, Kaytlin Moore, Shane Baer, Casin Truman and Erik Deutsch.
Mrs. Barnard was very devoted to her children and grandchildren.
The family will receive friends at the Boal Memorial Chapel, Barton, on Saturday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. The Order of Eastern Star will hold a memorial service at the Chapel on Saturday at 7:30 p.m.
Funeral services will be conducted at the Barton United Methodist Church on Sunday at 1 p.m. with the Rev. John Park officiating.
Interment will be in the Philos Cemetery, Westernport.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Barton United Methodist Church.
ALVERTA L. SHAFFER
HYNDMAN, Pa. -- Alverta Leota Shaffer, 99, of Hyndman Road, Hyndman, died Tuesday, Feb. 20, 2001, at WMHS Memorial Hospital, Cumberland.
Friends will be received at the Harvey H. Zeigler Funeral Home, 169 Clarence St., Hyndman, on Friday, Feb. 23 from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.
Funeral services will be conducted at the funeral home on Saturday, Feb. 24 at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Rebecca J. Vardiman officiating.
Interment will be in the Hyndman Cemetery.
ETHEL M. MCKENZIE
FROSTBURG -- Ethel Mary McKenzie, 84, of Sunset Vista, Frostburg, died Thursday, Feb. 22, 2001, at Sacred Heart Hospital, Cumberland.
Born Jan. 5, 1917, in Frostburg, she was the daughter of the late Albert and Lula (Caton) Minnick. Mrs. McKenzie also was preceded in death by her husband, Albert McKenzie in 2000; and four brothers, James Minnick, Lawrence Minnick, Conrad Minnick and Elmer Minnick.
Mrs. McKenzie was a homemaker and she was a member of the Emmanuel Methodist Church, Rt. 40 West, Frostburg.
She is survived by a daughter, Pauline Garlitz and husband Ellis, Frostburg; two granddaughters, Gloria Woodard, Dixon Springs, Tenn., and Glenda George, Chesapeake Beach; one great-granddaughter, Charity Brown; three great-grandsons, Timothy George, Michael George and Christopher George; and one great-great-granddaughter, Ashley Brown.
Friends will be received at the Durst Funeral Home, P.A., 57 Frost Ave., Frostburg, on Friday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.
Funeral services will be conducted at the funeral home on Saturday at 2 p.m. with the Rev. Steve Lightner and the Rev. George Loar officiating.
Interment will be in the Emmanuel Methodist Cemetery.
