WILLIAM C. MILLER
William Cassity Miller, 72, Clearwater, Fla., died Friday, July 9, 1999, at Bay Pines Veterans Hospital.
He was born in Lewisburg, Ky., and was a former resident of Aurora, W.Va., and Aberdeen.
He retired as a sergeant major after 30 years of service with the U.S. Army. He was a veteran of both the Korean and Vietnam conflicts. He was a member of the NCO Association, American Legion Post 128, Aberdeen, and a volunteer worker at both the VAMC Hospital in Perry Point and the Bay Pines VA Hospital.
Survivors include his wife, Lelia Miller; one stepson, Robert W. Frantz, Maryland; one sister, Barbara N. Hudnall, Owensboro, Ky.; and one grandchild.
The Moss Feaster Funeral Home & Cremation Services, Clearwater, was in charge of funeral arrangements.
Contributions may be made in Mr. Miller’s memory to the American Cancer Society.
MARY F. MURPHY
Mary F. Murphy, 100, Oakland, died Thursday, July 8, 1999, at her home.
Born Feb. 20, 1899, in Schell, W.Va., she was the daughter of the late John J. and Alice A. (Moon) Rowan. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Harry J. Murphy, in 1988, and one son, Lester 'Buck' Murphy.
She was a member of the White United Methodist Church.
Survivors include two daughters, Catherine W. Harvey and Phyllis I. Simms, both of Oakland; six grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; two step-grandsons; and 17 great-great-grandchildren.
Friends were received at the Stewart Funeral Home, Oakland, where a service was conducted Sunday, July 11, with the Rev. Neil Parsons officiating. Interment was in the White Church Cemetery.

DANIEL C. SLAGLE
Daniel Clyde Slagle, 69, Bruceton Mills, W.Va., died Wednesday, July 14, 1999, at his home.
Born Feb. 7, 1930, in Albright, W.Va., he was a son of Inez (Friend) Slagle, Bruceton Mills, and the late Harry Slagle.
He was a ministerial servant for the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses, Markleysburg, Pa., and was a retired bricklayer and stone mason.
In addition to his mother, he is survived by his wife, Grace E. (Cover) Slagle; six sons, Danny Slagle, Morgantown, W.Va., Kirby Slagle, Brian Slagle, Alan Slagle, and Brett Slagle, all of Bruceton Mills, and David Slagle, Oakland; two daughters, Danita Mayor and Cindy Workman, both of Bruceton Mills; two brothers, Bill Slagle and Merwin Slagle, both of Bruceton Mills; and 11 grandchildren.
Friends will be received at the Newman Funeral Home, Friendsville, on Friday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. A service will be conducted at the funeral home on Saturday, July 17, at 2 p.m., with Elder Thomas Posey officiating. Interment will be in the Blooming Rose Cemetery, near Friendsville.
ROBERT L. SQUIBB
Robert L. Squibb, 67, Pittsburgh and Deep Creek Lake, died Tuesday, July 13, 1999, at his Deep Creek Lake home.
Born May 19, 1932, in McKeesport, Pa., he was a son of the late Alvah M. and Annie (Lannan) Squibb.
He was the retired president and owner of Alvah M. Squibb Co., Inc., McKeesport. He later became a real estate agent for Wilson Banum Agency, McKeesport, and was currently a real estate agent for A&A Realty/Long & Foster Realtors, Deep Creek Lake.
He served as an officer with the U.S. Air Force, was a member of the Pleasant Hills (Pa.) Community Presbyterian Church, and served as a past president of church’s board of trustees. He was a past member of the Mon-Yough Chamber of Commerce and a past member of the Small Business Manufacturers’ Association. He was a 32nd degree Mason and a member of McKeesport Lodge 641 Ancient and Accepted Scottish Rite/Valley of Pittsburgh.
He was a 1954 graduate of Grove City (Pa.) College a member of Beta Sigma fraternity, a 35-year member of the Grove City College Alumni Association, and served as vice president and president of the alumni association. He was instrumental in publishing and distributing Grove City College’s '‘Mid the Pines,' and served for three years as a member of Grove City College’s Board of Trustees as an alumni trustee. He was also a past officer and director of the Deep Creek Lake Property Owners’ Association.
Survivors include his wife, Janet (Loach) Squibb; one son, Ronald L. Squibb, Belle Vernon, Pa.; one daughter, Jennifer Stetson, Baltimore; and two brothers, Richard Squibb, Pittsburgh, and Donald E. Squibb, Elizabeth, Pa.
Friends will be received at the Durst Funeral Home, Oakland, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. today, Thursday, and at the Jefferson Memorial Funeral Home, Pittsburgh, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. on Friday. A memorial service will be conducted at the Pleasant Hills Community Presbyterian Church on Saturday, July 17, at 11:30 a.m., with the Rev. Karen Berns officiating. Interment will be private.

HARRY D. TRANUM
Harry D. Tranum, 78, Rawlings, died Friday, July 9, 1999, at his home.
Born Feb. 18, 1921, in Kitzmiller, he was the son of the late Grover and Helen (Spiker) Tranum.
He was a correctional supervisor and a U.S. Army veteran of World War II.
Surviving are his wife, Mary 'Cass' (Paugh) Tranum; one son, Floyd Paugh, Riverside, Calif.; two daughters, Deanna Edgell and Helen Ressley, both of Lancaster, Ohio; one sister, Madeline Michaels, Cresaptown; 11 grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren.

JEFFREY E. WHITE
Jeffrey Everett White, 36, Oakland, formerly of Kitzmiller, died Sunday, July 11, 1999, at Ruby Memorial Hospital, Morgantown, W.Va.
Born July 21, 1962, in Oakland, he was a son of William and Carma (Bray) White, Kitzmiller.
He was employed at the Mettiki Coal Company.
Survivors include his wife, Diane (Savage) White; one son, Joshua White, at home; one daughter, Stephanie Marie, at home; one brother, W. James White, Kitzmiller; and one sister, Ruth Oliverio, Oakland.

EVALYN M. ARNOLD
Evalyn May Arnold, 88, Eglon, W.Va., died Monday, July 5, 1999, at Cortland Acres Nursing Home, Thomas, W.Va.
Born May 15, 1911, at Stemple Ridge, W.Va., she was a daughter of the late Henry Simon and Minnie (Hauser) Smith. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Paul H. Arnold Sr.
Survivors include two sons, Paul H. Arnold Jr., Aurora, W.Va., and Charles E. Arnold, Lucas, Ohio; two daughters, Dorothy Spiker, Mansfield, Ohio, and Elaine Grimm, Aurora; nine grandchildren; three step-grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; five step-great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren.

CARL BROWN
Carl 'Rick' Brown, 50, Finzel, died Sunday, July 4, 1999.
Born April 15, 1949, in Meyersdale, Pa., he was a son of Mary Deal Brown, Finzel, and the late Carl M. Brown.
He was owner/operator of Brown Plumbing, Heating, and Air Conditioning.
In addition to his mother, survivors include his wife, Nancy (DeWitt) Brown; one son, Richard 'Rick' Brown, Zihlman; one brother, Donald Brown, Finzel; and one sister, Linda Race, Frostburg.
Friends were received at the Durst Funeral Home, Frostburg. A service was conducted at the Cornerstone Baptist Church, Cumberland, on Wednesday, July 7, with the Rev. Daren L. Ritchey officiating. Interment was in Frostburg Memorial Park.

WILLIAM P. CLAAR
William P. Claar, 82, Fort Walton Beach, Fla., formerly of Cumberland and Oakland, died recently at the Westwood Retirement Community, Fort Walton Beach.
Born June 30, 1917, in Garrett, Pa., he was a son of the late Charles Sanford and Bertha (Bowlby) Claar. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Olive Elizabeth (Ryland) Claar.
He was retired from Nabisco, was a U.S. Air Force veteran of World War II, a member of the Cumberland American Legion, and a member of Oakland Lodge 2481, BPOE.
Survivors include one brother, Charles B. Claar, Harrisburg, Pa.
A memorial service will be conducted at the chapel at Rocky Gap on Friday, July 9, at 1 p.m. Interment will follow.
The Durst Funeral Home, Oakland, is in charge of arrangements.
THEODORE E. CROUSE
Theodore Eugene 'Ted' Crouse, 64, Oakland, formerly of Kitzmiller, died Wednesday, July 7, 1999, at Sacred Heart Hospital, Cumberland.
Born June 17, 1935, in Shallmar, he was the son of the late John and Dollie (Eckard) Crouse.
He was a retired painter.
Survivors include his wife, Doris (Craft) Crouse; two daughters, Debbie Deems, Baltimore, and Janet Griffith, Mtn. Lake Park; one sister, Charlotte Chadderton, Kitzmiller; seven grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

DOROTHY J. DASHIELLS
Dorothy Jean Dashiells, 66, Cranesville, W.Va., died Monday, July 5, 1999, at Garrett County Memorial Hospital, Oakland.
Born Dec. 28, 1932, in Ohio, she was a daughter of the late Wesley H. and Fannie (Bowers) Purtee.
She was a retired nursing assistant and a member of Faith United Methodist Church, Cranesville.
Survivors include her husband, Raymond B. Dashiells; three sons, Thomas E. Stineberg, Hampstead, Roy L. Stineberg, Glen Rock, Pa., and Christopher D. Stineberg, Westminster; three daughters, Joyce Ann Joerger, Reisterstown, Louisa M. Berkeridge, Westminster, and Catherine D. Reynolds, Hanover, Pa.; four stepdaughters, Sharon D. Simmons, Millersville, Deborah A. Angelo, Arbutus, and Linda Gerwig, Orlando, Fla.; one brother, Leroy Purtee, Baltimore; one sister, Ruth Wilson, Randallstown; nine grandchildren; eight step-grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and three foster daughters, Cathy Stewart, Tracy Stewart, and Virginia Barajas.
