CUMBERLAND -- Friends for Margaret Mary Lynch will be received at the Scarpelli Funeral Home, P.A., 108 Virginia Ave., Cumberland, Sunday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. A Christian wake service will be conducted at the funeral home on Sunday at 8:45 p.m.
Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at SS. Peter and Paul Catholic Church on Monday at 10 a.m.
Interment will be in the St. Mary's Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Erich Deffenbaugh, Gary Wolz, Mark Briner, Matthew Park, and her two grandsons, Sean Lynch and Michael Lynch.
GEORGE A. HERRING
FROSTBURG -- Dr. George A. Herring, born May 30, 1930, in Frostburg, passed away at home in California on Feb. 22, 2001.
Dr. Herring earned his PhD from Columbia University in New York City. He spent most of his career in New York City, teaching for more than 20 years at the City University of New York. After retiring from City University, Dr. Herring spent his last 15 years in San Diego, Calif.
In retirement, he gained a passion for gardening and flower arranging. He achieved the rank of Assistant Professor of Ikebana (#3rd grade) with the Ikenobo School of Flower Arranging. As an accredited Flower Show Judge, he was active in the Southwestern Judges Council of the National Council of State Garden Clubs. He also was active in the Village Garden Club of LaJolla, Chula Vista Garden Club and other flower arranging organizations in San Diego.
Survivors include lifetime companion Gorge Frank, son Paul, sister Constance Spates, aunt Freda Rice, loving grandchildren and other caring family and friends.
STEPHEN P. FISHER
MOSCOW -- Stephen Paul Fisher, 47, of 18217 Lower Georges Creek Road, Moscow, died Friday, March 2, 2001, in Hagerstown.
Born in Cumberland on Jan. 28, 1954, he was the son of Colleen (Donald) Cook Fisher of Moscow, and the late Luther T. Cook.
Mr. Fisher was a 1972 graduate of Valley High School. He was an Army veteran of the Vietnam War. He was previously employed by WACO construction, and he enjoyed hunting and fishing.
In addition to his mother, he is survived by a son, Lee C. Fisher of Barton; a fiancé, Sandra Cheshire and children Nathan and Derrick Woy; a grandmother, Nellie Donald of Moscow; two sisters, Lisa Ryan of Keyser, W.Va., and Shelley Alexander of Midland; two aunts, Phyllis Wilt of Lonaconing, and Betty Housell of Salisbury, Pa.; one uncle, Ken Donald of Manassas, Va.; and numerous nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends at the Boal Memorial Chapel, Barton, on Sunday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.
Funeral services will be conducted at the Chapel on Monday at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Donald Webb officiating.
Interment will be in the Green Cemetery, Lonaconing.
HARRY K. POPE
SPRINGS, Pa. -- Harry Kenneth Pope, 71, of 1347 Springs Road, Springs, died Saturday, March 3, 2001, at his residence.
Born Oct. 30, 1929, in Frostburg, Md., he was a son of the late Herbert Kenneth and Emma A. (Blocher) Pope. He also was preceded in death by a brother, Oliver David Pope.
Mr. Pope was a lifetime member of Mount Zion United Methodist Church and a charter member of the United Methodist Men. He was a farmer and truck driver, having been employed by Mountain Counties Milk Hauling Co-op, and more recently, the Otto Brick and Tile.
He is survived by his wife of 46-1/2 years, Mildred Patricia "Patsy" (Durst) Pope, whom he married
July 31, 1954; two sons, Philip Pope, Tavares, Fla., and Matthew Pope, Grantsville, Md.; three daughters, Connie Caceres and husband Jorge, Brenda Brode and husband Wayne, all of Hyndman, and Patricia Wiley and husband John, Corriganville, Md.; one brother, William Scott Pope and wife Janis, Cresaptown, Md.; one sister-in-law, Marie Pope, Lompoc, Calif.; 11 grandchildren, Thomas, Tyler and Jesse Pope, Jennifer and Elizabeth Pope, Steven, Christopher and Michael Brode, Jason and Justin Wiley, and Tasha Clark; and a number of nieces and nephews.
Friends will be received at the Newman Funeral Homes, P.A., Grantsville, on Monday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.
Services will be conducted at the Mount Zion United Methodist Church on Tuesday at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Steven Lightner officiating. Friends may call at the church one hour prior to the services.
Interment will be in the church cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Philip Pope, Matthew Pope, Thomas Pope, Jorge Caceres, Steven Brode and Christopher Brode. Honorary pallbearers will be Thomas Durst, David Durst, Robert Pope, Francis Pope, Brent and John Gundaker and Oliver Hoover.

RAYMOND R. CHANEY
FLINTSTONE -- Raymond Richard Chaney, 43, of Flintstone, died Saturday, March 3, 2001, at Memorial Hospital, Cumberland.
Born July 1, 1957, in Frederick, he was the son of Emma Chaney, Bunker Hill, W.Va., and the late George W. Chaney Sr.
Mr. Chaney was a construction worker and a U.S. Navy veteran.
Surviving in addition to his mother are his wife, Tina Marie Chaney; three daughters, Ricki Jade Chaney, at home, Mandy Renee Chaney and Natalie Cameron Chaney, both of Falling Waters; two sons, Chase Levi Chaney, at home, and Cory Paven Chaney, Falling Waters; one stepdaughter, Jodi Nichole VanMeter, at home; three sisters, Glenda Dorsey and husband Dennis, Dale Herndon and husband Oral, all of Mount Airy, and Mary Louise Dorsey and husband Curtis, Frederick; two brothers, George W. Chaney Jr. and wife Katie, Inwood, W.Va., and Tommy E. Chaney and wife Lori, Frederick; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Friends will be received at the Scarpelli Funeral Home, P.A., 108 Virginia Ave., Cumberland, on Wednesday from 12 to 1 p.m.
Funeral services will be conducted at the funeral home on Wednesday at 1 p.m. with the Rev. Fred Iser officiating.
Interment will be in the Glendale Cemetery, Flintstone.

RIDGELEY, W.Va. -- Friends for Franklin Thomas "Tom" Twigg Jr. will be received at the Scarpelli Funeral Home, P.A., 108 Virginia Ave., on Tuesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.
Funeral services will be conducted at the Emmanuel House of Prayer on Wednesday at 2 p.m. Friends will be received at the church one hour prior to the service.
Interment will be in the Mt. Olive Cemetery, Oldtown.
