ZETA W. CLAY
OAKLAND -- Zeta Winifred (Hasenbuhler) Twigg Clay, 95, of Oakland, formerly of Cumberland, died Monday, March 5, 2001, at the Dennett Road Manor Nursing Home in Oakland.
She was born in Cumberland on Aug. 24, 1905, and was a daughter of the late Harry F. Hasenbuhler and Lulu (Moore) Hasenbuhler. She also was preceded in death by one brother, Maynard Hasenbuhler.
She resided with her daughter in Mountain Lake Park for the past several years before entering Dennett Road Manor.
She is survived by her daughter, Doris J. Goldsborough of Mountain Lake Park; one brother, Millard L. Hasenbuhler of Oakland; three grandchildren, Barbara Tichnell and husband George, Pamela Smith and husband Stephen, and David Goldsborough and wife Elizabeth; seven great-grandchildren, Alicia Wolfe Metz, Brian Wolfe, Jason Smith, George Tichnell Jr., Jeffrey Tichnell, David Goldsborough Jr. and William Goldsborough.
Friends may call at the Durst Funeral Home in Oakland on Tuesday from 7 to 9 p.m.
Services will be conducted at the funeral home on Wednesday at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Roger Harrison officiating.
Interment will be in the Hillcrest cemetery in Cumberland.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests contributions be made to the Southern Rescue Squad.
KENNETH H. TICHNELL
MOUNTAIN LAKE PARK -- Kenneth Harold Tichnell, 77, of Mountain Lake Park, died on Sunday, March 4, 2001, at Garrett County Memorial Hospital in Oakland.
He was born Jan. 5, 1924, in Kitzmiller, and was a son of the late Arthur S. Tichnell and Kathleen (Junkins) Tichnell. In addition to his parents, he also was preceded in death by his wife, Charlotte (Hagen) Tichnell; and two brothers, Johnny Tichnell and Arthur (Red) Tichnell Jr.
Mr. Tichnell began his career as the owner of Tich's Truck Stop in Frederick, and later became a member of the B&O Railroad Security Police. He was a former Maryland State Police Trooper, worked as Supervisor of Air Security for Washington State and Alaska, and retired from the U.S. Custom Service. Mr. Tichnell was an Army Air Corps veteran of World War II where he served as a pilot in both Sicily and Germany.
He is survived by three sons, Martin Tichnell and his wife Janis of Cumberland, James (JJ) Lightner and his wife Bertie of Wilmington, N.C., and Kenneth (KC) Tichnell and his wife Bonnie of Mountain Lake Park; one daughter, Gloria Durning and her husband Joseph of Flossmoor, Ill; two brothers, Frederick Tichnell of Mountain Lake Park, and Bobby Dale Tichnell of Frederick; nine grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.
Mr. Tichnell was a member of Proctor Kildow Post #71 American Legion, McCoole Post #6775 V.F.W, the Maryland State Police Alumni Association, and the N.R.A.
Friends may call at the Durst Funeral Home in Oakland on Wednesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.
Services will be conducted at the Chestnut Grove United Methodist Church on Thursday at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Don Nelson officiating. Friends may call at the church one-half hour prior to services.
Graveside services will be conducted at the Oleander Memorial Park in Wilmington, N.C., on Saturday at 1 p.m.
The family suggests memorials be directed to the Parkinson's Foundation or the Chestnut Grove United Methodist Church.
HOMER E. SCHADE
CUMBERLAND -- Homer E. Schade, 84, of Cumberland, died Tuesday, March 6, 2001, at Memorial Hospital, Cumberland.
Born on Aug. 28, 1916, in Ridgeley, W.Va., he was the son of the late George Peter Schaidt and Nellie B. (See) Schaidt Funk. He was also preceded in death by three sisters, Hilda Schaidt, Viola Talley and Cora Hausman; and two brothers, Harry and Athur Schaidt.
Mr. Schade was a loving husband, father and grandfather. He was a World War II veteran, having served in the South Pacific in chemical warfare. He was retired from the Celanese Corp., Cumberland, and was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church.
Surviving are his wife of 51 years, Virginia Lee (Binnix) Rinker Schade; one daughter, Norma Lee Eckard and husband Ronald, Fuquay-Varina, N.C.; one stepson, Larry A. Rinker, Bloomington, Ind.; three sisters, Helen Peterson, Evelyn Cooper and husband Edward, all of Cumberland, and Genevieve Morgan and husband John, Frostburg; one brother, Harold Schaidt and wife Mary, Cumberland; one sister-in-law, Jacqueline Schaidt, Cumberland; five grandchildren, Lorraine Maness and husband Marty, Dale Morrison and husband Nathan, Amy Allison and husband Sam, David Rinker and wife Kim, and Dallas Rinker; eight great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Friends will be received at the Scarpelli Funeral Home, P.A., 108 Virginia Ave., Cumberland, Thursday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.
Funeral services will be conducted at the funeral home on Friday at 1 p.m. with Pastor John J. Duffus officiating.
Interment will be in Sunset Memorial Park.

Mass of a Christian Burial will be celebrated at SS. Peter and Paul Catholic Church on Thursday at 11 a.m.
Interment will be in SS. Peter and Paul Cemetery, Cumberland.
HELEN M. POLAND
ROMNEY, W.Va. -- Helen M. Poland, 84, of Romney, died Tuesday, March 6, 2001, at her residence.
Born on Aug. 13, 1916, in Beaver Bottom, she was the was daughter of the late Garrett T. Messick and Carrie Taylor Messick. In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by her husband, Arthur N. Poland on July 9, 1991; and two brothers, Clyde Messick and Garrett T. Messick Jr.
Mrs. Poland was retired from Gainer's Pharmacy, Romney. She was a member of Romney First United Methodist Church, Romney, the United Methodist Women, Romney, G.F.W.C., Romney, and the VFW Ladies Auxiliary, Wapocoma Post 1101, Romney.
Surviving are four sisters, Eva Ruppert, Jacksonville, Fla., Jessie Dixon, Loreda, Fla., Marguerite Henderson, Romney, and Phyllis Messick, Romney.
Friends will be received at the Shaffer Funeral Home, Romney, Wednesday, March 7, 2001, from 2:30 to 4:30 and 7 to 9 p.m.
Services will be held at the Romney First United Methodist Church, Romney, Thursday, March 8, 2001, at 10 a.m. with the Rev. Calvin McCutcheon officiating.
Interment will be in the Ebenezer Cemetery, Romney.
BERNICE A. KITZMILLER
ELK GARDEN, W.Va. -- Bernice Alverta Kitzmiller, 88, of Elk Garden, died Monday, March 5, 2001, at Cuppett-Weeks Nursing Home in Oakland, Md.
Born on May 16, 1912, at Hartmansville, Bernice was a daughter of the late Jacob and Mollie (Cannon) Evans. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Roy Kitzmiller.
Mrs. Kitzmiller is survived by one son, Ronald Kitzmiller of Elk Garden and his companion, Deloris Morrale; three foster sons, Allen Fultz and wife Jean of Bayard, Douglas Fultz of New Mexico, and Tommy Stover of Stafford, Va.; one daughter, Reginia Deputy of Rockville, Md.; five grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
The body is at the David A. Burdock Funeral Home in Kitzmiller, where friends will be received on Wednesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.
Funeral services will be held on Thursday at 12 noon in the Elk Garden Assembly of God Church with the Rev. Donald E. Marple and the Rev. Byron Mayberry officiating.
Interment will be in the I.O.O.F. Cemetery, Elk Garden.
