JOHNNY L. LAMBERT JR.
RIDGELEY, W.Va. -- Johnny Lee Lambert Jr., 16, of Ridgeley, died Monday, March 12, 2001, as a result of an automobile accident in Fort Ashby.
Born on May 28, 1984, in Cumberland, Md., he was the son of Johnny Lee Lambert Sr. and Linda D. (Hapney) Lambert, Ridgeley. He was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, Roy and Ruby Hapney; and paternal grandfather, Jesse Lambert.
Johnny was a Times-News carrier and an employee of the Hagenbuch Restaurant. He was a junior at Frankfort High School and a member of the Future Farmers of America.
In addition to his parents, surviving are three sisters, Christel Crock, Ridgeley, Tina Mishow, Cumberland, and Angie Lambert, Ridgeley; five nieces, Courtney Crock, Whitney Crock, Chasity Lannon, Danielle Mishow and Destiny Bridges; paternal grandmother, Betty Lambert, Ridgeley; and a number of aunts, uncles and cousins.
Friends will be received at the Scarpelli Funeral Home, P.A., 108 Virginia Ave., Cumberland, on Wednesday from 2 to 4 and 6 to 9 p.m.
Funeral services will be conducted at the funeral home on Thursday at 11 a.m. with Pastor Charles F. Riggleman officiating.
Interment will be in Springfield Hill Cemetery, Springfield.
Johnny will be greatly missed by his mom, dad, sisters and nieces.
Pallbearers will be Darrin Everett, Clayton Barnes, Gordon Snurr, Cody Alt, Timothy Gabbert and Scott Jones.
DOROTHY L. BUTTERFIELD
HYNDMAN, Pa. -- Dorothy L. Butterfield, 41, of Mill Street, Hyndman, died March 12, 2001, at UPMC Bedford Memorial.
Born on July 21, 1959, in Johnstown, she was the daughter of Robert I. and Drenna (Cobaugh) Izzett.
She is survived by her parents; children, Brian and Michael Butterfield, both at home; brothers, Robert I. Izzett Jr., Bristol, Tenn., Donald L. Izzett and wife Darlene, Williamsburg, Charles F. Izzett, Louisiana, Louis Butterfield, John Butterfield, Thomas Izzett and wife Linda, Colorado; sister, Barbara Shipley and husband Jeffrey, Buffalo Mills; and many aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews.
She was a member of Wills Mountain Church of Christ. She was a former member of Hyndman Volunteer Fire Company Ladies Auxiliary.
Friends will be received at the Harvey H. Zeigler Funeral Home, 169 Clarence Street, Hyndman, on March 14 from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.
Funeral services will be conducted at the funeral home on Thursday, March 15 at 11 a.m. with Evangelist Harry T. Ryan officiating.
Interment will be in Restlawn Memorial Gardens, Cumberland, Md.
EARL A. GROVES
PETERSBURG, W.Va. -- Earl A. Groves, 83, of Petersburg, died Tuesday, March 13, 2001, at his home.
Born on May 27, 1917, in Maysville, he was the son of the late Roy and Gracie May (Judy) Groves. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Neva E. (Ours) Groves on May 25, 2000; two sisters.
Mr. Groves was a lifelong farmer and participanted in local, state and national livestock activities.
Surviving are three daughters, Betty L. Groves of Petersburg, Helen L. Hedrick of Petersburg, and Ellen I. Kirby of Petersburg; two grandsons; three great-grandsons; one sister, Kathleen Kile of Cabins; and a number of nieces and nephews, who thought of him as Pap, including a nephew who lived with the Groves family, Conway C. Ours Jr.
Friends will be received at the Schaeffer Funeral Home, Petersburg, Thursday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.
Services will be held at the Grove Street United Methodist Church, Friday at 2 p.m. with Pastor Rebecca L. Bennett, the Rev. Stanley Kile and the Rev. Richard L. Longbon officiating.
Burial will be in the Lahmansville Cemetery, Lahmansville.
Memorial contributions to Tri County Fair Association, the West Virginia Junior Angus Association or the charity of choice.
THE REV. DAPHNE E. BRANN
HOLIDAY, Fla. -- The Rev. Daphne E. Brann, 110, of Spanish Trail Holiday, formerly of Cumberland, Md., died March 10, 2001, at Community Hospital, New Port Richey, Fla.
Born on Aug. 4, 1890, in Oldtown, Md., she was the daughter of the late Horace R. Twigg and Lourenna (Middleton) Twigg. She was also preceded in death by her husband, the Rev. Oliver P. Brann on Aug. 2, 1951; and one son, the Rev. O. Kenneth Brann, Elizabethtown, Ky.
The Rev. Brann was the oldest living ordained Assemblies of God Minister, moving to Florida from Somerset, Pa., in 1985. She was the oldest living citizen of Pasco County. She visited the Holy Land when she was 104. She attended the First Assembly of God Church, Holiday, and was a charter member of the Central Assembly of God Church in Cumberland. She and her husband founded the Westernport Assembly of God Church and she received a phone call in January 2001 from Florida Governor Bush congratulating her on her life spanning three centuries. She was the oldest living graduate of Allegany High School and was a member of the Class of 1909.
She was the last surviving member of her immediate family.
Surviving are two daughters, L. Marguerite Calabrese, Holiday, and Naomi B. Helsel, New Port Richey; seven grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren; and a number of nieces and nephews.
Friends will be received at the Kight Funeral Home, 309-311 Decatur St., Cumberland, on Thursday from 7 to 9 p.m.
Funeral services will be held at the Central Assembly of God Church on Friday at 11 a.m. with the Rev. David Howe officiating.
Interment will be in Hillcrest Memorial Park.
Friends may call at the church after 10 a.m. on Friday.
DONALD K. SHILLINGBURG
BALTIMORE -- Donald K. Shillingburg, 71, of Baltimore, formerly of Elk Garden, W.Va., died Sunday, March 11, 2001, at the Johns Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore.
Born on Oct. 27, 1929, in Elk Garden, Donald was a son of the late John K. and Maggie (Kitzmiller) Shillingburg. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Emma (Bosley) Shillingburg.
Mr. Shillingburg is survived by a son, Donald W. Shillingburg; and a sister, Marjorie H. Beatty. Also surviving are several nieces and nephews.
Friends will be received on Wednesday from 3 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the David A. Burdock Funeral Home in Kitzmiller.
Funeral services will be held on Thursday at 1 p.m. in the funeral home chapel with the Rev. Larry Pancake officiating.
Interment will be in the Kalbaugh Cemetery, Elk Garden.
MARY "ETHEL" DEWITT
MCHENRY -- Mary "Ethel" (Savage) DeWitt, 99, formerly of McHenry, went to be with her Lord on Monday, March 21, 2001, at Garrett County Memorial Hospital, Oakland, Md.
Born Dec. 1, 1901, in Sang Run, she was the daughter of the late Sherman Grant Savage and Martha (Cross) Savage. Mrs. DeWitt was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph C. DeWitt in 1978. She was also preceded in death by one son, Paul W. DeWitt; one daughter, Elva Jo Frantz; one sister, seven brothers, two grandchildren and one great-granddaughter.
Surviving are two daughters, Marie Keller, Pierceton, Ind.; Alice Strobel, McHenry; two sons, Edward DeWitt, McHenry; Joseph DeWitt, Oakland; one sister, Hazel Friend, Cambridge Springs, Pa.; 19 grandchildren, 43 great-grandchildren and seven step-grandchildren and 18 great-great-grandchildren.
Mary Ethel was a lifelong faithful member of the Oak Grove Church of the Brethren.
Friends will be received at the Newman Funeral Homes, P.A., McHenry, on Wednesday from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. Funeral services will be conducted at the Oak Grove Church of the Brethren on Thursday at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Donald Matthews officiating. Friends may call at the church one hour prior to the services. Interment will be in the church cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Kris DeWitt, Douglas DeWitt, Ronnie Wagner, Dave Wagner, Bradley Frantz and Gary Iden.
