KAROL RUSH
Karol Rush, 83, BelAir, formerly of Friendsville, died Monday, June 28, 1999, in Bel Air.
He was born Aug. 4, 1915, in Friendsville, a son of the late Asa and Iva Rush.
He served as Friendsville’s mayor for 18 years.
Survivors include his wife, Bessie (Frantz) Rush; three daughters, Karolyn Jacobs, BelAir, Nancy Wilson, Fallston, and Robin Ashley, Deep Creek Lake; one son, Tony Rush, Kentucky; one sister, Aleta Murphy, BelAir; seven grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.
A memorial service will be conducted at a date that will be announced in a future edition of The Republican.
FLOYD E. TETER SR.
Floyd Edward Teter Sr., 59, Terra Alta, died Wednesday, June 23, 1999, at his home.
Born July 11, 1939, in Vindex, he was a son of the late William Matthew and Verna Blanche (Weisenforth) Teter. He was also preceded in death by four brothers and three sisters.
He was a member of the Evergreen Southern Baptist Church. He was a bookkeeper and a truck driver.
Survivors include his wife, Mary Lee Teter; two sons, Floyd E. Teter Jr. and Robert M. Teter, both of Terra Alta; two daughters, Cheryl Ann Sypolt and Verna Mae Teter Pifer, both of Terra Alta; three sisters, Ethel Knotts, Fairmont, W.Va., Elsie Cosner, Bayard, W.Va., and Myrtle Tasker, Kitzmiller; seven grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
Friends were received at the Arthur H. Wright Funeral Home, Terra Alta, where a service was conducted Saturday, June 26, with Barry Adkins officiating. Interment was in the Terra Alta Cemetery.
LINWOOD F. BITTINGER
Linwood F. Bittinger, 86, Oakland, died Thursday, June 24, 1999, at the Cuppett-Weeks Nursing Home, Oakland.
Born April 22, 1913, in Mtn. Lake Park, he was the son of the late Franklin R. and Gertrude E. (Moon) Bittinger. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Wilma L. (Steyer) Bittinger, in 1990.
He was a retired farmer and attended the Faith Evanglical Free Church in Mtn. Lake Park.
Survivors include two daughters, Betty M. McKensie, Bradenton, Fla., and Carolyn L. Helbig, Oakland; one sister, Irene Martin, Oakland; four grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
Friends will be received at the Stewart Funeral Home, Oakland, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. on Friday. A service will be conducted at the funeral home on Saturday, June 26, at 2 p.m., with the Rev. Gail Hixon and the Rev. William McCallister officiating. Interment will be in the Pleasant Valley Cemetery, Oakland.
ELSIE V. DURST
Elsie Virginia Durst, 92, Frostburg, died Tuesday, June 22, 1999, at Sacred Heart Hospital, Cumberland.
Born Aug. 2, 1906, in Humbert, Pa., she was a daughter of the late James and Lillie (Hinebaugh) Boyer. She was also preceded in death by two husbands, Russell Durst, on Jan. 2, 1972, and Sherman Durst, on July 3, 1992; one son, C. Frank Durst; one stepson, Floyd Durst; two sisters, Pearl Reeves and Nell Shelley; and two brothers, Robert Boyer and Oliver Boyer.
She was a member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, Fort Hill, Pa. She also attended Midland Methodist Church and was a member of the WSCS. She was a member of Myrtle Temple 3, Pythian Sisters, Midland, for more than 50 years, and held numerous offices in the temple. She was also a member of the Midland Homemakers Club.
Surviving are two sons, James Durst, Seminole, Fla., and Jack Durst, Mentor, Ohio; one stepson, Roy Durst, Midland; two daughters, Beulah Kaucic, Euclid, Ohio, and Charlotte Cornelius, Chardon, Ohio; one stepdaughter, Margaret Fisher, Midland; 15 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; and six great-great-grandchildren.
Friends will be received at the Newman Funeral Home, Grantsville, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. today, Thursday, and at the Durst Funeral Home, Frostburg, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. on Friday. Myrtle Temple 3, Pythian Sisters, will conduct a memorial service at the Durst Funeral Home at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. A funeral service will be conducted at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, Fort Hill, on Saturday, June 26, at 11 a.m., with the Rev. William Triebe officiating. Interment will be in the church cemetery. Friends may call at the church one hour prior to the service.
ROY S. EVANS
Roy S. Evans, 79, Keyser, W.Va., died Thursday, June 17, 1999, at his home.
Born Aug. 7, 1919, in Greenland Gap, W.Va., he was a son of the late Benjamin H.and Maude (Lemon) Evans. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Marguerite G. (Kight) Evans, on Oct. 25, 1992; one sister, Jesse Evans; one bro-ther, Dale Evans; and one grandson.
He was retired from Westvaco in 1985, with 38 years of service in the maintenance department.
He was a decorated World War II veteran and served with the U.S. Army and Army Air Corps from 1939-45 in the European and Pacific theaters. He was a past commander and life member of American Legion Post 52, Piedmont, W.Va., a member of Queen’s Point VFW Post 6775, McCoole, and a member of the Piedmont Presbyterian Church.
Survivors include one sister, Mae DeBerry, Oakland; two sons, Danny J. Evans, Keyser, and Wayde S. Evans, Dawson; one daughter, Margaret I. (Evans) Summers, Keyser; five grandchildren; and one great-grandson.
Friends were received at the Boal Funeral Home, Westernport, where a service was conducted Sunday, June 20, with the Rev. Harry Coleman and the Rev. John Walker officiating. In-terment was in Rest Lawn Memorial Gardens, LaVale.
VIOLET M. EVANS
Violet May Evans, 93, Elkins, W.Va., formerly of Eglon, W.Va., died Sunday, June 20, 1999, at the Davis Memorial Hospital in Elkins.
Born Feb. 2, 1906, at Eglon, she was a daughter of the late John and Sylvia (Calcamp) Evans. She was also preceded in death by a brother.
She was a homemaker.
Survivors include one sister, Nora Strawser, Elkins.
Friends were received at the Hinkle Funeral Home, Davis, W.Va., where a service was conducted Wednesday, June 23, with the Rev. J. Rogers Fike officiating. Interment was in the Texas Cemetery, Horse Shoe Run, W.Va.
HILDRED V. FOLEY
Hildred V. Foley, 81, Gormania, W.Va., died Tuesday, June 22, 1999, at Monongalia General Hospital, Morgantown, W.Va.
Born Oct. 17, 1917, in Gormania, she was the daughter of the late Arch and Mary (Shreve) Miller.
Survivors include her husband, Lester William Foley; and one daughter, Eileen Whitehair, Gormania.
Friends will be received at the Durst Funeral Home, Oakland, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. today, Thursday. A service will be conducted at the funeral home on Friday, June 25, at 1 p.m., with the Rev. William Anderson officiating. Interment will be in the Bayard (W.Va.) Cemetery.
ROBERT HARPER
A memorial service for Robert Harper, 76, Ellenton, Fla., who died Jan. 19, 1999, will be held at the Garrett County Memorial Gardens chapel, Oakland, on Saturday, June 26, at 2 p.m., with the Robert Fletcher officiating.
Harper was born March 17, 1922, at Pierce, W.Va., a son of the late Isaac and Otie Ellen Harper.
He was a graduate of Thomas (W.Va.) High School and Davis & Elkins College. He was a Master Mason of Harrison Lodge 122 in Brandenburg, Ky., and a veteran of World War II. He was a chemist with Olin Chemical Company, retiring in 1978.
Survivors include his wife of 56 years, Mary Harper; one daughter, Mary Roberta Hesler, Jacksonville, Fla.; one son, James Robert Harper, Ackworth, Ga.; three brothers, Richard Harper, Reedsville, W.Va., and Kenneth Harper and Frederick Harper, both of Lanexa, Va.; one sister, Peg Harper, Melbourne, Fla.; three grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
Interment will be in Garrett County Memorial Gardens. Military honors will be accorded at the cemetery by members of the various veterans organizations in southern Garrett County.
BERTHA V. KLAUSMEYER
Bertha Virginia Klauszmeyer, 67, Virginia Beach, Va., formerly of Friendsville, died Thursday, June 10, 1999, at a Virginia Beach hospital.
Born March 18, 1932, in Loartown, she was a daughter of the late John and Mae (Hess) Capel, who were residents of Friendsville. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Melvin Charles Klausmeyer, in 1973.
Survivors include one daughter, Denise Klausmeyer, Virginia Beach; one son, Melvin Charles Klausmeyer, Virginia Beach; one sister, Bessie M. Selby, Dundalk; two brothers, William H. Capel, Ridgeley, W.Va., and John H. Capel, Baltimore; and one grandson.
Friends were received at the Duda-Ruck Funeral Home, Dundalk, where a service was conducted Wednesday, June 16, with the Rev. Melvin Kline officiating. Interment was in Holly Hill Memorial Gardens, Baltimore.
RICHARD R. NORRIS
Richard R. Norris, 81, Grantsville, died Monday, June 21, 1999, at the Goodwill Mennonite Home, Grantsville.
Born Dec. 17, 1917, in Curwensville, Pa., he was a son of the late Ralph and Olive (Harley) Norris.
He was a veteran of World War II. He was a retired salesman, a member of American Legion Post 6, BPOE Lodge 540, and Clearfield Lodge 314 AF&AM.
Surviving are his wife, Jean (Krebs) Norris; two daughters, Gail A. Tindall, Severn, and Wendy S. Wakefield, Oakland; one brother, Robert Norris, Curwensville; and three grandchildren.
At Mr. Norris’s request, his body has been cremated. A memorial service will be conducted at the Oak Hill Cemetery Chapel, Curwensville, on Saturday, July 3.
The family suggests memorials take the form of contributions to Hospice of Garrett County, Inc., or the Northern Garrett Rescue Squad.
PEARL L. MCKENZIE
Pearl L. McKenzie, 79, Ravenna, Ohio, formerly of Finzel, died Monday, June 21, 1999, at the Cleveland Clinic.
Born Nov. 17, 1919, in Meyersdale, Pa., she was a daughter of the late Henry and Mae (Jones) Shockey. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Raymond C. McKenzie, in March 1998, and four brothers, Carl, Freeman, Leonard, and Roy Shockey.
She retired from Lamb Electric in Kent, Ohio, where she worked for 25 years.
Survivors include one daughter, Darlene McKenzie, Ravenna; one brother, Harold Shockey, Johnstown, Pa.; two sisters, Verda Werner and Charlotte Willey, both of Barberton, Ohio; and one half-brother, Edison Shockey, Florida.
Friends will be received at the Durst Funeral Home, 57 Frost Ave., Frostburg, from 7 to 9 p.m. today, Thursday. A service will be conducted at the funeral home on Friday, June 25, at 11 a.m., with Mrs. McKenzie’s nephew, Benny Werner, as speaker. Interment will be in the Finzel Cemetery.
ROBERT E. PATTON
Robert E. Patton, 86, Fort Hill, Pa., died Monday, June 21, 1999, at the Henry Clay Villa, Markleysburg, Pa.
Born April 13, 1913, in Garrett County, he was the son of the late John and Minnie (Kolbfleisch) Pat-ton. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Grace A. (Platter) Patton, on Feb. 1, 1970.
Survivors include one daughter, Mary Lucy Locher, Johnstown, Pa.; eight grandchildren; 35 great-grandchildren; and 11 great-great-grandchildren.
Friends will be received at the Newman Funeral Home, Grantsville, from 6 to 7 p.m. today, June 24, the time of the service, with the Rev. David E. Fetter officiating. Interment will be in the Durst Cemetery.
