Funeral services will be conducted at the funeral home on Wednesday at 11 a.m.
Interment will be in Sunset Memorial Park.
RITA C. OWENS
CUMBERLAND -- Rita C. Owens, 75, of Cumberland, died Sunday, March 25, 2001, at Sacred Heart Hospital, due to complications from pneumonia.
Born on April 26, 1925, in Cumberland, she was the daughter of the late Frank and Agnes (Barnes) Snyder. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Leroy F. Owens in 1979; three brothers, George D., Vincent D. and Robert J. Snyder.
Mrs. Owens was a homemaker and a former employee of the Celanese. She was a member of the Cumberland Outdoor Club, K of C Mixed Bowling League, Fraternal Ladies Shuffle Board League for 31 years, the Good Fellowship Club and St. Mary's Catholic Church.
Surviving are two sons, David L. Owens and wife Sandi, Daniel R. Owens and wife Jeanne, all of Cumberland; three daughters, Patricia L. Frey and husband Peter, Keyser, Beverly A. Owens, Cumberland, and Susan K. Beard and husband Joseph, Oldtown; six grandchildren, LeAnna R. Owens, Lauren N. Owens, Andrew J. Owens, Jordan R. Owens, Emily A. Beard and Daniel J. Beard; three sisters, Betty Hammond and husband Conley, Josephine Frick, all of Cumberland, Geraldine McNeil and husband Milton, Indian Trail, N.C.; four brothers, Joseph Snyder, Cumberland, Albert Snyder, Oldtown, Gerald Snyder and wife Evelyn, Baltimore, and Jim Snyder and wife Irene, Odenton; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Friends will be received at the Scarpelli Funeral Home, P.A., 108 Virginia Ave., Cumberland, on Tuesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. A Christian Wake will be conducted on Tuesday at 3:30 p.m.
Mass of a Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Mary's Catholic Church on Wednesday at 9 a.m. with Fr. Milton Hipsley as celebrant.
Interment will be in St. Mary's Cemetery.
RUSSELL G. BURNS
PURGITSVILLE, W.Va. -- Russell G. Burns, 89, of HC 86, Box 182, Purgitsville, died Sunday, March 25, 2001, at Hampshire Memorial Hospital, Romney.
Born on March 7, 1912, at Jordan Run, he was a son of the late Harry and Sarah (Rohrbaugh) Burns. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Edith L. Burns on June 1, 1975; two sons, John Burns and Junior Burns; a sister, Pearl Burns; a stepson, Willis "Sid" Rohrbaugh; and two step-grandsons, Tommy and Leroy Rohrbaugh. He was the last surviving member of his immediate family.
Mr. Burns was a self-employed timberman and farmer. He also worked with the B&O Railroad for a number of years. He attended the Marvin Chapel United Methodist Church, Purgitsville.
Surviving are his longtime special companion, Anna High, Purgitsville; two sons, Ronnie Lee Burns and wife Peggy, Purgitsville, and Ernest Russell "Ernie" Burns and wife Pat, Purgitsville; one daughter, Bueanna "Ann" Halterman and husband Richard, Unionville, Va.; 13 grandchildren; and 18 great-grandchildren.
Friends may call at the Smith Funeral Home, Burlington Chapel, on Tuesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.
Funeral services will be conducted at the Knobley Church of the Brethren, New Creek, on Wednesday at 11 a.m. with Pastor Roger Leatherman officiating. The body will be taken to the church one hour prior to the services.
Interment will be in Knobley Cemetery, New Creek.
ROBERT L. HUGHES
WESTERNPORT -- Robert L. Hughes, 77, died Wednesday, Jan. 31, 2001, at the VA Hospital in Washington, D.C.
He was born in Westernport, on Feb. 2, 1923. He was the son of the late John T. and Bessie (Moran) Hughes.
Bob was a retired Master Sergeant from the 82nd Airborne Division of the U.S. Army. He served in the 504th Parachute Regiment during World War II, where he received a Purple Heart in Belgium during the Battle of the Bulge.
Bob was a Civil Service employee at Patrick Air Force Base for many years.
He is survived by his significant other, Frances McHarvey; son, Robert Hughes Jr., Raleigh, N.C.; daughters, Patricia Phillips, Rochester, Minn., Mary K. Alspach, Lakewood, Colo., Eileen Hughes, Springfield, Va., and Barbara Gamer, Atlanta, Ga.; brothers, Francis Hughes, Cumberland, William of Dallas, Texas, sisters, Helen Rotruck, LaVale, and Mary E. Rice, Cumberland.
He was laid to rest at Arlington National Cemetery.
DOROTHY M. RASMUSSEN
BUFFALO MILLS, Pa. -- A memorial service for Dorothy M. (Leydig) Rasmussen, formerly of Buffalo Mills, who died last week in South Dakota, will be held Thursday, March 29 at 7 p.m. in the Gravel Pit Church in Buffalo Mills, with the Rev. Roger Johnson officiating.
Mrs. Rasmussen, 57, died March 23, 2001, in a Rapid City, S.D., hospital. She lived in Alliance, Neb., where she operated an antiques business with her husband.
She was born March 25, 1943, a daughter of the late Howard and Betty (Troutman) Leydig, and was married
in Hot Springs, S.D., Dec. 24, 1962, to Garry Rasmussen. He survives along with two children, Grant Rasmussen and wife, Kelly, and Susan and husband, Jim Nollette, all of Alliance and six grandchildren.
A 1961 graduate of Hyndman High School, she is survived three brothers and a sister, Betty Jordan and Blair Leydig, both of Buffalo Mills; Bob Leydig of Bedford and Jim Leydig of Canton, Ohio.
Her remains were buried in Hot Springs.

PATRICIA A. GROVE
WATERFALL, Pa. -- Patricia Ann (Brinkman) Grove, 66, of 4241 Wells Valley Road, Waterfall, Pa., died Sunday, March 25, 2001, at her home.
Born March 17, 1935, in Cumberland, she was the daughter of the late Elmer Perry and Anna Elmira Herbaugh Brinkman.
Mrs. Grove was a homemaker. She was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star Corning, N.Y. and AARP. She was of the Protestant faith.
Survivors include her husband, Donovan S. Grove, Waterfall; a daughter, Donna Susan Grove, Bellview, Neb.; three sons, Jonathan S. Grove, Hagerstown; Christopher L. Grove, Hagerstown; Mark D. Grove, Waterfall; a sister, Linda Lemmert, Frostburg; two granddaughters and one great-granddaughter.
The family will receive friends at the Osborne Funeral Home, 425 South Conococheague Street, Williamsport, Wednesday, March 28, from 7 to 9 p.m. The funeral home will be open after 9 a.m. on Wednesday for the convenience of family and friends.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, March 29, at Osborne Funeral, at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Richard A. Kroll officiating. Interment will be in Greenlawn Memorial Park, Williamsport.

WILLIAM F. CONIS
CUMBERLAND -- William F. "Pete" Conis, 81, of the Allegany County Nursing Home, formerly of West Third Street, Cumberland, died Tuesday, March 27, 2001, at the nursing home.
Born on April 7, 1919, in Cumberland, he was the son of the late Peter and Mary Bernadette (Calvetto) Conis. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Mary Ida Conis on April 19, 1988; and one sister, Virginia Angelilli.
Mr. Conis was a retired truck driver for the Celanese Corp. He was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II.
Surviving are one son, Gerard J. Conis and wife Beverly, Oldtown; one sister, Leona Yancey; two grandchildren, Jade M. Niemiec and husband Frank, Gerard C. "Bubba" Conis and wife Jill, all of Cumberland; three great-grandchildren, Kyleigh Niemiec, Ashton Niemiec and Foster Clayton Conis.
