NELLIE (WHITEMAN) DONALD
BARTON -- Nellie Marie (Whiteman) Donald, 88, Lower Georges Creek Road, Barton, died March 30, 2001, at Sacred Heart Hospital, Cumberland.
Born at Lonaconing, Md., Oct. 17, 1912, she was a daughter of the late James Edgar Whiteman and Eliza Ellen (Green) Whiteman. She was preceded in death by her husband, William Harrison Donald, and two grandchildren, Stephen Fisher and Kristy Nace.
She was a member of the First Assembly of God Church, Lonaconing, Md., the W.M. at the church and Georges Creek Senior Citizens.
Surviving are children Colleen Virginia Fisher, Moscow, Md.; Phyllis Jean Wilt, Lonaconing, Md.; Betty Ann Housel, Salisbury, Pa.; and Kenneth William Donald, Manassas, Va.; 10 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; two sisters, Mary Morgan, Carlos, Md.; Helen Broadwater, Lonaconing, Md.; one brother, Bill Whiteman, Cresaptown, Md.; and many nieces and nephews.
Friends will be received at the Eichhorn-McKenzie Funeral Home, P.A., Lonaconing, Saturday from 7 to 9 p.m. and Sunday from 3 to 5 p.m. only. There will be no evening viewing Sunday.
Services will be held Monday at 11 a.m. at the funeral home by the Rev. Donald Webb.
Interment will be in Green Cemetery, Lonaconing, Md.
IRENE D. STRICKLER
WESTERNPORT -- Mrs. Irene D. Strickler, 87, of 211 Cromer St., Westernport, Md., died on Friday, March 30, 2001, at Heartland Nursing Home in Keyser.
She was born on Oct. 16, 1913, in Jennings, Md., and was the daughter of the late Thomas Hoover and Sarah Bittinger Hoover. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Victor G. Strickler; a daughter, Joanne Kyle; and five sisters and four brothers.
She was a member of the Piedmont Church of God. She had worked at the Lonaconing Silk Mill, the Celanese Corp. and Kenny's Market.
Mrs. Strickler is survived by a son, Victor H. Strickler and wife Patricia of Piedmont, W.Va.; one brother, Herman E. Hoover of Peoria, Ariz.; three grandchildren, Richard Kyle, Kathy Litwin and Victor B. Strickler; and four great-grandchildren.
The family will receive friends at the Fredlock Funeral Home in Piedmont on Sunday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.
Funeral services will be held at the funeral home on Monday at 1 p.m. with the Rev. Ada Kittle officiating.
Interment will follow at Philos cemetery in Westernport.
MAXINE S. ROSENBAUM
CUMBERLAND -- Maxine S. Rosenbaum, 77, South Pasadena, Fla., formerly of Cumberland, died Tuesday, March 27, 2001, at Palms of Pasadena Hospital, South Pasadena.
Born Dec. 23, 1923, in Cumberland, Md., she was the daughter of the late Joseph and Cora (Binnix) Shapiro.
Mrs. Rosenbaum was always associated with Rosenbaum Brothers. She was a retail fashion buyer for Magrams in Burlington, Vt., and later at J.W. Rhodes in Ithaca, N.Y. She was a member of Memorial Hospital Auxiliary, B'er Chayim Sisterhood, Jr. Women's Civic Club, Red Cross and the Cumberland Country Club Golf Association.
Surviving are her husband of 56 years, Simon Rosenbaum; one daughter, Ricky Krall, Owings Mills, Md.; one son, Morris Rosenbaum, Arlington Heights, Ill.; one sister, Eileen Moberly, Cumberland; one sister-in-law, Louise Miller, Baltimore; one brother-in-law, Stuart Rosenbaum, South Pasadena; five grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
Friends will be received at the Scarpelli Funeral Home, P.A., 108 Virginia Ave., Sunday from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. and Monday from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m.
Funeral services will be conducted at the Scarpelli Funeral Home, P.A. on Tuesday at 11 a.m.
Interment will be in Eastview Cemetery, Cumberland.
PHILLIP L. KETTERMAN
CUMBERLAND -- Phillip L. Ketterman, 57, Cumberland, died Friday, March 30, 2001, at Memorial Hospital, Cumberland.
Born Sept. 5, 1943, in Cumberland, he was the son of the late Grover Lawson Ketterman Sr. and Estella F. (Swick) Ketterman. He was preceded in death by one brother, Grover Lawson Ketterman.
Mr. Ketterman was an employee of Biederlack Company, Cumberland. He was a U.S. Army veteran. He was a member of Second Baptist Church, Cumberland, and the Cumberland Moose #271.
Surviving are his wife, Beverly (Evans) Ketterman; one son, Kirk P. Ketterman, Cumberland; two brothers, Jim Ketterman, Cumberland; Ricky Ketterman and wife Marsha, Short Gap, W.Va.; four sisters, Georgia Snyder and husband Harry, of New York; Bessie Hobell and husband Harry, LaVale; Betty Tom and husband Philip, Santa Clara, Calif.; Shirley Merrill, McCoole; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Friends will be received at the Scarpelli Funeral Home, P.A., 108 Virginia Ave., Sunday from 3 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m.
Funeral services will be conducted at the Scarpelli Funeral Home, P.A., on Monday at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Sherrill Dillon officiating.
Interment will be in Maryland Veterans cemetery at Rocky Gap, Flintstone.
Military honors will be accorded by the Combined Veterans Honor Guard.
RODNEY R. SMITH
CUMBERLAND -- Rodney R. Smith, 59, Cayce, S.C., formerly of Cumberland, died Wednesday, March 28, 2001.
Born in Cumberland, he was a son of the late Lloyd and Audrey Holiday Smith.
He was a U.S. Army veteran with service in the Vietnam War. Formerly of Cumberland, he had been a resident of South Carolina since 1966. Mr. Smith was a member of Airport Baptist Church, where he was a Sunday school teacher, trustee and chairman of the deacons. He was an employee of Boral Brick Company and was an avid bowler with the church league at Park Triangle Lanes.
Surviving are his wife, Bonnie Smith of Cayce; daughters and sons-in-law, Rhonda Smith of Cayce, Tina S. and Dan Brazell of Aiken, S.C.; Maryland Smith and Jason Whitaker of Gaston, S.C.; sister, Sue Often of Hanover, Pa.; grandchildren, Allison Mackenzie Browder, Melvin "Derrick" Browder III, Victoria Nicole Brazell, Brandon Michael Brazell and Jonathan "Jon" Parker Brazell.
Thompson Funeral Home, Lexington, S.C., is in charge of arrangements.
Services will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday in Airport Baptist Church, conducted by the Rev. Ed Lynch.
Burial will be at Woodridge Memorial Park.

EUGENE P. MERRBACH
CUMBERLAND -- Eugene Patrick Merrbach, 83, of 204 Union St., Cumberland, died Friday, March 30, 2001, at Memorial Hospital, Cumberland.
Born at Gilmore, Md., on Dec. 8, 1917, he was the son of the late Emory and Mary L. (Nolan) Merrbach. His wife, Gertrude V. (Spriggs) Merrbach, in 1997 also preceded him in death.
Mr. Merrbach was formerly employed at Celanese Fibers Corp. He also operated Dutch's Tavern in Gilmore for 25 years, and was the owner of Dutch's Novelty for 40 years. He was a life member of Cumberland Outdoor Club, and was Catholic by faith.
Surviving is his son, Eugene Patrick Merrbach Jr. and wife Patricia of Frostburg; two grandchildren, Gregory and Rene Merrbach.
The family will receive friends at the Boal Funeral Home, Lonaconing, on Sunday from 7 to 9 p.m. Funeral services will be conducted at the funeral home on Monday at 10 a.m. with Sister Joan Maenner officiating.
Interment will be in St. Joseph's Cemetery, Midland.
