RUTH J. SHUMAKER
BURLINGTON, W.Va. -- Ruth Jane Shumaker, 78, of Burlington, died April 4, 2001, at Potomac Valley Hospital, Keyser.
Born Dec. 26, 1922, in Denmar, Pa., she was the daughter of the late Ellis H. and Gertrude Fern (Sanders) Patterson Sr.
Mrs. Shumaker is survived by her husband, John C. "Doc" Shumaker and two brothers, Ellis H. "Pat" Patterson Jr., Romney, and Robert B. Patterson Sr., Burlington.
The family will receive friends at the Shaffer Funeral Home, Romney, on Thursday from 7 to 9 p.m.
A graveside service will be held at Elijah High Cemetery, Purgitsville on Friday, April 6, at 11 a.m. with Pastor Allen Murlin officiating. Interment will follow.
DORIS M. DREES
FINZEL -- Doris M. Drees, 73, of 338 Finzel Road, Finzel, died Tuesday, April 3, 2001, at her residence.
Born April 10, 1927, in Pocahontas, Pa., she was the daughter of the late Walter and Pearl (Baer) Baer. She was also preceded in death by a daughter, Janis "Dolly" Dugan in 1992 and a son, Gerald Conrad Drees in 1994.
Mrs. Drees was a homemaker and a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church, Pocahontas.
Surviving are her husband, Bernard C. Drees; one grandson, Randy Dugan; two sisters, Betty A. Bell, Akron, Ohio; Janice Williams and husband, Kenneth, Somerset, Pa.; one brother, David Baer and wife, Lois, Akron, Ohio; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Friends will be received at the Durst Funeral Home, P.A., 57 Frost Avenue, Frostburg, on Thursday from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. Prayers for the departed will be recited at 8:30 p.m.
A funeral mass will be held at St. Mary's Catholic Church on Friday a 10 a.m. with the Rev. Fr. Albert J. Anselmi as celebrant.
Interment will be in the Finzel Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be directed to the Hospice of Garrett County, 69 Wolf Acres Drive, Oakland, MD 21550.
FREDERICK W. HAMILTON
CUMBERLAND -- Frederick W. Hamilton, 89, of Cumberland, died Tuesday, April 3, 2001, at his residence.
Born May 20, 1911, in Cumberland, he was the son of the late Frederick W. and Sophie (Ritter) Hamilton. He was preceded in death by a sister, Eva Reckley.
Mr. Hamilton was retired from the Old Export Brewing Company and the City of Cumberland. He was a 1929 graduate of Penn Avenue School. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II. He was a life-long member of St. John's Lutheran Church and a member of the Elks. He enjoyed bowling, horseshoes, basketball, and Senior Olympics.
Surviving are his wife, Louise L. (Crawford) Hamilton; one son, Frederick Walter Hamilton III, Cumberland; three daughters, Sheree Hamilton, Cumberland; Deborah Allen, Houston, Texas; Donna White, Chesapeake Beach, MD; one brother, John Hamilton and wife, Doris; one sister, Pauline Sibley, all of Cumberland; five grandchildren, Laci Hamilton Lowery; Frederick Walter "Rick" Hamilton, IV; Melissa Hamilton, Jason White and Craig White and several nieces and nephews.
Friends will be received at the Scarpelli Funeral Home, P.A., 108 Virginia Avenue on Thursday from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m.
Funeral services will be conducted at the St. John's Lutheran Church on Friday at 11 a.m. with Rev. Mark C. Dill officiating. Friends will be received at the church from 10 to 11 a.m.
Interment will be in Restlawn Memorial Gardens, LaVale.
Pallbearers will be sons-in-law, Todd Allen and James White, grandsons, Frederick W. "Rick" Hamilton, IV, Jason White, and Craig White, and nephew, Charles Sibley.
Honorary pallbearers will be Dallas Hite, Skip Squires, Tag Reel, Vince Shumaker, Kenny Koser and Dick Keller.
DOROTHY KIEMLE
CUMBERLAND -- Dorothy Alice Kiemle, 82, of One Baltimore Street, Cumberland, died Wednesday, April 4, 2001, at Memorial Hospital Hospice Unit.
Born July 13, 1918, in Irvington, N.J., she was the daughter of the late Alec and Edith (Kittel) Brown.
Mrs. Kiemle was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church of Cumberland.
Her husband, Erwin, daughter Alice Rothberg, and infant son, Allan, preceded her in death.
Mrs. Kiemle is survived by her son, George and his wife, Marlene, of Toledo, Ohio; son, Frederick and his wife, Jean "Dee" of Mount Savage; sisters, Myrtle and Helene and brother, Allan and his wife, Hazel.
Mrs. Kiemle also leaves six grandchildren, three great-grandchildren and many friends.
A memorial service and reception will be held at St. Paul's Lutheran Church of Cumberland on Sunday, April 8, at 3 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be sent to the St. John Neumann School Library Fund.
ESTHER V. MORRIS
CUMBERLAND -- Friends will be received for Esther V. Morris at the Scarpelli Funeral Home, P.A., 108 Virginia Ave., Cumberland, on Friday from 4 to 7 p.m.

Interment will be in Sunset Memorial Park, Cumberland.
PHYLLIS PORTER
BARTON -- Phyllis Porter, 73, of 23417 Potomac Hollow Road, Barton, died Thursday, April 5, 2001, at Moran Manor Nursing Home, Westernport.
Born at Pekin, on Oct. 15, 1927, she was the daughter of the late William C. and Sarahbelle (Kiddy) Muir.
Mrs. Porter was a graduate of Central High School and attended Catherman's Business School. She was a homemaker and a member of the First Assembly of God Church, Westernport.
Surviving are her husband, W. Raymond Porter; a brother, David Muir and wife Norma Lee of Pekin; two sisters, Margaret McVicker of Egle Nursing Home, Lonaconing, formerly of Barton, and Dorothy Morgan of National; and numerous nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends at the Boal Memorial Chapel, Barton, on Friday from 7 to 9 p.m.
Funeral services will be conducted at the chapel on Saturday at 2 p.m. with the Rev. Jerry Schloe officiating.
Interment will be in Laurel Hill Cemetery, Moscow Mills.
