MOUNT SAVAGE -- Edith Elizabeth Carter, 90, formerly of 15705 Old Iron Rail St., died Saturday, April 7, 2001, at the Saint Vincent de Paul Nursing Center, Frostburg.
Services will be held at the Durst Funeral Home, P.A., 57 Frost Ave., Frostburg, Monday at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Richard Broome officiating, and the Rev. George Harpold assisting.
Interment will be the Saint Patrick's Catholic Cemetery, Mount Savage.

BETTY I. RICHTER
ACCIDENT -- Betty Irene Richter, 74, formerly of 342 Cove Road, Accident, died Sunday, April 8, 2001, at Cherry Hill Assisted Living, Accident.
Born on Feb. 26, 1927, in Chester, Pa., she was a daughter of the late Arthur and Edith (Georg) Butler. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Vernon L. Richter on July 12, 1990.
Mrs. Richter was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church, Missouri Synod, Cove, and the Ladies Aid of the church. She was retired as a library assistant first with Northern High School and later at Northern Middle School.
She is survived by two sons, James Richter, Baltimore, Dr. Donald Richter, Oakland; two daughters, Judy Travis, Oakland, and Vivian Diehl, Grantsville; one brother, Arthur Butler Jr., Accident; one sister, Mary Lou Smith, Swanton; and eight grandchildren.
Friends will be received at the Newman Funeral Homes P.A., 179 Miller St., Grantsville, on Tuesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.
Services will be conducted at St. John's Lutheran Church, LCMS, Cove, on Wednesday at 1 p.m. with the Rev. Douglas Kabell officiating.
Friends may call at the church one hour prior to the services.
Interment will be in the church cemetery.
Expressions of sympathy may be directed to St. John's Lutheran Church or Northern High School Library.
GEORGE W. LILLY SR.
MOUNT SAVAGE -- George William (Posey) Lilly Sr., 81, of Upper Bank Street, P.O. Box 537, Mount Savage, died Saturday, April 7, 2001, at Sacred Heart Hospital, Cumberland.
Born on March 6, 1920, in Mount Savage, he was the son of the late James Lilly and Emma Dyling Lilly. Mr. Lilly was also preceded in death by brothers, Joseph Lilly and James Lilly; and sisters, Marie O'Brien and Margaret O'Neal.
Mr. Lilly is survived by his wife of 60 years, M. June Elrick Lilly of Mount Savage; two sons, George W. Lilly Jr. and wife MaryAnn, Ellerslie, and Dennis R. Lilly, Mount Savage; one daughter, Mary Teter and husband Dave, Mount Savage; four grandchildren, Cindy Troutman and husband Mark, Carrie Witt and husband Rob, Eric Lilly and wife Christie and Connie Teter; seven great-grandchildren, Tahmya and Shaleena Troutman, Brodie and Bryce Witt, Kayla and Eric Lilly II, and Mark Teter; and one sister, Emma Hammel, Lewes, Del.
Mr. Lilly was retired from ABL with 38 years of service. He was a member of St. Patrick's Catholic Church, Mount Savage.
Anyone that new him will remember him as a great storyteller and for the love he had for his work. But his family will remember him as a loving and strong man who never complained. He was a very generous man who worked hard and had a great knowledge of life that will live in the hearts of his family forever. He was a devoted husband, father and grandfather, and will be sadly missed.
In accordance with Mr. Lilly's wishes, there will be no visitation.
A Memorial Mass will be celebrated at St. Patrick's Catholic Church, Mount Savage, on Tuesday, April 10, 2001, at 10 a.m. with the Rev. Fr. Milton Hipsley as celebrant.
Interment will be in St. Patrick's Cemetery, Mount Savage.

DAVID R. ULLERY
CUMBERLAND -- David Russell Ullery, 75, of 1215 Lexington Ave., Cumberland, died Saturday, April 7, 2001, at Memorial Hospital.
Born on Dec. 10, 1925, in Cumberland, he was the son of the late Tilden J. Ullery and Lula (Dorsey) Ullery. He was also preceded in death by a daughter, Carolyn Sue Myers; three brothers; and three sisters.
Mr. Ullery was welding instructor for Chemtron Corporation and a Navy veteran of World War II and Korea. He was the last surviving member of his immediate family.
He is survived by his wife, Charlotte Leona (Hull) Ullery; two sons, David A. Ullery and wife Sheila, Cresaptown, and Gary R. Leery and wife Linda, LaVale; a son-in-law, Robert Myers, Westminster; four grandchildren, Michelle Lynn (Ullery) Fishel and husband Donnie, David A. Ullery and wife Kara, Gary A. Ullery and Christopher S. Ullery, all of Cumberland; three great-grandchildren, Derek Ullery, Kayla Carder and Shaya Ullery; and two step-grandchildren, Coty and Jeremy.
Friends will be received at the Merritt-Adams Funeral Home, P.A., 404 Decatur St., Cumberland, on Monday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.
Services will be conducted on Tuesday at 11 a.m. at the funeral home with the Rev. Benny Brakeall officiating.
Interment will be in Sunset Memorial Park.
The family requests that memorials be made to the American Cancer Society of Cumberland.
DONALD F. CHANEY
FROSTBURG -- Donald F. Chaney, 87, of Frostburg, died Sunday, April 8, 2001, at his home.
Born on May 13, 1913, in Avilton, he was the son of the late Charles and Linnie (Layman) Chaney. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Dorothy (Blocher) Chaney.
Mr. Chaney was a member of Frostburg United Methodist Church and a United States Army Corporal of the combat engineers serving in England and Germany during World War II. He was awarded the Bronze Star for his service. He was employed by Celanese Corp., Allegany Ballistics Laboratory and retired from Frostburg State University.
Surviving are his sister, Marguerite Blocher and husband Willard, Frostburg; one brother, Ellis Chaney and wife Viola, Frostburg; a brother-in-law, Philip Blocher and wife Betty, Fairplay, S.C., who have been great support to him throughout the years; and many nieces and nephews.
Friends will be received at the Sowers Funeral Home, P.A., 60 W. Main St., Frostburg, on Tuesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.
Services will be conducted at the funeral home on Wednesday at 1 p.m. with the Rev. T. William Preston officiating.
Interment will be in Frostburg Memorial Park. Members of Farrady Post 24 Honor Guard will accord military honors at graveside.
JAMES R. HOOK SR.
LITITZ, Pa. -- James Robert Hook Sr., 63, of Lititz, died Monday, April 2, 2001, at home after a brief illness.
Born May 12, 1937, in Cumberland, he was the son of the late James Isaac and Emma (Wright) Hook. He was also preceded in death by a half-brother, Walter Perrin, and two sisters, Virginia Mae Hook and JoAnn Hook.
Mr. Hook had been a Lancaster County resident since the late 1960's. He retired from Yellow Freight in 1995 after 21 years as a truck driver. He later owned and operated Whispers Restaurant located in Ephrata, Pa.
He was a U.S. Air Force veteran and a member of the Teamsters Local 771, Lancaster; American Legion Post 0056, Lititz; and AMVETS Post 0136, Ephrata. He was a life member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 5956, Manheim, Pa., and enjoyed camping, hunting, fishing and the outdoors.
Surviving are his wife, Beth A. Oddi-Spring Hook; his son, James R. Hook Jr., Ephrata; two daughters, Sheila Hallman and husband, Jeff, Columbia, Pa.; Yulonda Sweigart and husband, Barry, Ephrata; a stepson, Craig Spring, Ephrata; a stepdaughter, Brandi Michael and husband, Nathan, Ephrata; nine grandchildren; five sisters, Helen Walker, Roanoke, Va.; Genevieve Clark, Ruth Jones, Kathy Minick and husband, Robert, all of Cumberland; Rosalie Bell and husband, Robert, Hinesville, Ga. and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
A memorial service was held Wednesday, April 4, in Ephrata. The Rev. Richard F. Michael officiated. Interment will be private and at the convenience of the family.
