KARL W. POLAND
CUMBERLAND -- Karl William Poland, 75, of 111 Polk St., Cumberland, dies Wednesday, April 11, 2001, at Memorial Hospital.
Born on Feb. 25, 1926, in Luke, he was the son ot the late Ernest A. Poland and Ella (Lee) Poland Hill. He also was preceded in death by a brother, Ernest Lee Poland.
Mr. Poland was a retired aircraft mechanic in California. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army Air Force in World War II and a member of the Barton American Legion.
He is survived by a sister, Margueritte J. Smith, Cumberland; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Services will be conducted at the Maryland State Veterans cemetery at Rocky Gap on Monday at 1 p.m. withe the Rev. Harold Malone officicating.

RAY F DOMAN
ROMNEY, W.Va. -- Ray F. Doman, 70, of Romney, died Wednesday April 11, 1001, at the Hampshire Memorial Hospital, Romney.
Born June 13, 1930, in Hampshire County, he was teh sone of the late Edward Doman and Nina (Everett) Doman. He also was preceded in death by two brothers, Robert Doman and George "Gundy" Doman; and one sister Katherine Doman.
Mr. Doman worked in the finishing room at Westvaco Corp. and retired in 1992 after 23 years of service. He was a member of the Romney Presbyterian Church. He served in the U.S. Army duringthe Korean War.
He is survived by his wife of 46 years, Ruby A. (Hott) Doman; one daughter Diana K. Doman, Accident, Md.; tow brothers Charles E. Doman, Romeny, and Earl E. Doman, Capon Bridge; one sister, Alice Wertman, LaVale, Md.; and several nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends at thethe Shaffer Funeral Home, Romney, on Thursday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.
Services will be at the funeral home on Friday, April 13, at 1 p.m. with Dr. John S. Franklin officiating.
Interment will be in the Ebenezer Cemetary, Romney. Military rites will be accorded by the veterans organizations of Hampshire County.
Memorials may be made to Lambert's Rescue Aquad ot the American Heart Association.
BARBARA J. TEWELL
Barbara Jeanne Schulke Tewell, 73, of Mineral, died Dec. 4, 2000, at her Lake Anna home.
A portion of her ashes will be inurned in the Rocky Gap Veterans Cemeterey, Cumberland, Md, on her husband's birthday April 12, with the remainder inurned in her plot in Grand Forks, N.D., on May 8, the anniverdary of her birth.
She is survived byher husband, captain Daryl Tewell; stepchildren, Daryl II, Kara, Mark and Christi; six grandchildren; a brother; Major General Herbert A. Schulke, Jr., U.S. Army (Ret) C41 San Antonio, Texas and her cousins, C.L. (Bud) Linfoot, Grand Forks, N.D., Dr. John Linfoot, Orinda Calif., Helen DahL, San Antonio, Texas, Dorothea Stinson Checkley, Seattel, Wash., and Darlyne Stinson Truby, Louisville, Ky.
Mrs. Tewell was born on May 8, 1927 in New Ulm Minn., a daughter of the late Herbert and Alice Stinson Schulke.
She graduated from Carleton College in 1949 and became a flight attendant for Chicago and Souther Airways in 1950 flying until 1962. She worked at Eastern Airlines in a management capacity until 1976 when she married.
Memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association.
SANFORD M WELTON SR.
DECATUR, Ill. -- Sanford Montgomery Welton Sr., 64 died at 11 p.m. Monday, April 9, 2001 at his residence in Decatur, Ill. He was born March 8, 1937, in Cumberland, Md., the son of Wright M. and Harriette J. (Wierer) Welton, who preceded him in death.
Mr. Welton retired as Quality Control Development Supervisor aftger 35 years of service with PPG Industries. He attended the University of Maryland and Yale University and served as a Chinese interpreter in the U.S. Air Force for eight years. He graduated from Piedmont High School, class of 1955.
Services will be held at 7:30 p.m. with visitation from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. on Friday, April 13, at Dawson and Wikoff West Wood Street Funeral Home, Decatur.
Graveside Services at Philos Cemetery, Westernport, Md. will be conducted by Pastor Mickey Stephens of Grace Memorial Cummunity Church, Cumberland, on Monday, April 16, 2001 at 11 a.m. with interment to follow.

HARRY B BUCKLEY
OAKLAND -- Harry Blaine Buckley, age 87, of Oakland, died on Tuesday April 10, 2001 at his home.
He was born on March 23, 1914, in Thomas W.Va.; and was a son of the late J.E. Buckley and Estella (Stemple) Buckley. IN addtion to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Pauline V. Buckley; and one grandchild.
Mr. Buckley retired after serving for many years as the Director of the Bureau of Mines. He was a member of the Oak Park Church of the Bretheren; a 50 year member ot Thomas Fiarfax Lodge 174 AF & AM; and a member of the Scottish Rite. He was also a life member of the NRA, and a member of Camp 11 WOW.
He is survived by tow sons, Robert G. Buckley of Clearspring, Md., and Douglas E. Buckley of Oakland; one sister Mary Craven of Orlando, Fla.; six grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
Friends may call at the Durst Funeral Home in Oakland on Thursday from 7 to 9 p.m.
Services will be conducted at the Oak Park Church of the Brethren on Friday at 11 a.m. with the Reverend Mel Menker officiating. Cremation will follow.

ERNEST D LEWIS
CROSS, W.Va. -- Ernest Dale Lewis Sr., 68 of Cross, died Wednesday April 11, 2001, on the Potomac valley Hospital after a long illness.
Born Sept. 4, 1932, in Kempton, W.Va., he was the son of the late Mitchelland Elsie (Kesner) Lewis. Dale was a Korean Conflict Veteran and was retired from the Masteller Coal Co. where he worked for 40 years.
Surviving are his wife, Betty (Nelson) Lewis; one son, Ernest Dale Lewis Jr., of Cross; three daughters, Virginia Clark of Keyser, Debra Schwinabart of Mount Storm, and Judy Lewis at home. Also surviving are three sisters, Shirley Rinker, of Oakland, Md., Pam Tabbit of Ohio, and Sue Knotz of California; 10 grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
The body is at the David A. burdock Funeral Home in Kitzmiller, where friends will be received on Friday 3 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m.
Funeral Services will be held on Saturday at noon in the funeral home chapel with the Rev. Loren Metzner officiating.
Interment will be in Sinclair Cemetery, Cross.
